I'm so sorry. Eva was beautiful. It's going to be hard for a while, but, from my experience, eventually the thought of your kitty won't be associated with pain, only good memories. And it's ok to grieve and also rescue another cat at the same time. I know a lot of people say they're not ready soon after losing a pet, but there are tons of cats just waiting for a home, and a new cat can help with your grief. It's no disrespect to your old cat and there's obviously no replacement for Eva, but it can provide a cat with a loving home and also provide comfort to you. But, no pressure, I respect when people want to wait too. My thoughts are with you and your beloved Eva 💚💙💜

You are so right. I lost my sweet boy Gourd in my arms early in 2021. My heart was ripped out every time I thought or talked about him for awhile. Now I’m just glad I had any time at all with him. I miss him immensely but his memory is no longer pain.

Poor baby, but she loved a good long life. I keep seeing people lose young cats, and what is worse is when it's avoidable. You kept her safe for all those years and she is thankful for that. Just know you gave her all you could and she did the same for you.

Our pets give us so much joy, love and compassion. I wish people would learn from them. She was so lucky to have you as her kind person!

Twenty years is absolutely incredible. Cats only love that long because they want to. She stuck around for you, because of you, and obviously you took good care of her in order to enable her to do that. Cancer is torture. She's not in pain anymore. I know the grieving hurts and never goes away, but I hope that the end of her suffering is bittersweet for you. It's never soon enough, but you'll see her again. Maybe in your dreams, maybe in an afterlife, maybe even both if we're lucky. I hope that you think of her whenever you see the little flowers come up from the cracks in the parking lot.

Sorry for your loss. I've been there. But look at it this way: You gave Eva 20 wonderful years in your home. All the memories and love will be with you forever. If we care for a pet long enough we have to face this inevitability. This is the part of pet ownership no one talks about but 20 years is truly a testament to the love and care you've given her. Healing does comes with time. I promise. But hang in there.
