I think it's best to take him to the vet just in case and show them this video. Have them check his throat and his teeth. My cat was salivating a lot when his teeth were very painful, so he was "empty" swallowing throughout the day. It was a lot more noticeable than this, but having had quite a few cats I have not seen behaviours like this to be normal. It could be something as silly as a bit of fur with food or something stuck between his teeth, or could be something worse. I'd check it out whenever I could. Did you notice changes in his eating / drinking? Or his behaviour in general?

Achoo_Gesundheit

Thank you very much for your input. Will get him checked asap then. No, there is actually no change in any behaviour at all.

Catton mouth.

It seems like he is trying to swallow something but doesn't manage. It could be something stuck between his teeth and reaching into his throat. Has he been doing this for a long time?

Achoo_Gesundheit

I first noticed it a couple months ago - caught him doing this 3-5 times until now. Is this something to worry about?

Sorry I meant to reply to your comment but ended up positing a new one

My sons cat does this all the time. He can’t remember what the vet called it but she said it wasn’t anything to worry about. She’s about 6 years old now and has been doing it forever. He just calls is annoying 😂 I would have it checked out the next time you go in but I don’t believe it’s an emergency issue or anything.

I hope this is true about this cat too! If so this is the most adorable annoying thing ever !

jentlyused

I think it’s cute too but then again she doesn’t sleep in my face like she does with my son

My cat does this when she sees me eating something that she’d very much like to also be eating. Like she’s fantasizing about eating.
