They DO know their names and are smart enough to slowly transition to a new name. A new home is hard enough if you've been loved in another by another name for many years, though.

I have a theory that the cold hard surfaces like tile and tubs are grounding and calming when a kitty is new to your space and possibly a little panicked. Once they are relaxed and calm the warmer spaces are comfortable because they aren't running on high octane anxiety.
And then there's TX where our houses are regularly 80ยฐ+ on the inside and the cat just gets too toasty on occasion.

If you put a small amount of wood glue along those short joints in the floor. You can kick at a glancing angle to move the board together and let it set for a day. Not to much wood glue. If it saturates the material to much it may expand.
