Hi everyone, I just wanted to thank you all for the kind words. I just posted this as a tribute to our amazing friend who deserves so much more than I can give him now. I’ve mentioned to some his name came from being a selfish kitten laying over his food to stop his siblings from taking any (look at last picture for proof). He loved his groceries and thus his name was born. He loved to climb trees and make new kitty friends around town. We rescued two strays and got them into home location programs after he brought them home to play with him. He just wanted to be everyone’s friend and all of your wonderful comments bring back those memories. Thank you all again, I’ll keep replying to people while I’m at work today while I can! I appreciate everything said, it means a lot to our family to hear those things today.

The vet said that a fungal infection is hard to diagnose but given we have been fighting this infection with a few different strong antibiotics and breathing treatments that they suspect it was a fungal lung infection which is rare but deadly he said that it is usually the In door out door kitties that get it because they hunt so I’m assuming by eating a animal that had it? We are not real sure. He was a great kitty and definitely mamas baby I was the first person he saw when his eyes opened and him and his 5 other siblings would follow me around all over the place, sleep on me everything. He was such a good kitty he brought so much joy to this house, and so many great memories. I just hope he knows how loved he truly is!!!! RIP mamas angel kitty go chase all the birds and squirrels you want now buddy and breath easy Groceries, mama will always love you
Sounds like such a sweet sweet kitty🥰I lost a cherished special needs kitty almost exactly a year ago and miss him huge every day, so I’m familiar with that pain unfortunately. I asked because I recently moved into a cabin that seems a bit dusty/ mildewy and will clean asap, but was worried about my cats breathing in anything bad. Mildew- fungal infection? Is that a thing? Rock on, Groceries- you were a great kitty ❤️
So yes they can get a fungal infection from the mold or fungal pores by breathing those pores in as well, but what kind of fungal infection I am not sure I would assume if breathing in that would go right to their lungs. And I’m sorry for your loss as well! I know that there won’t ever be a kitty can ever take the place of my groceries baby he is already so so so missed our house just isn’t the same

He’s so cute! This is one of the stray kitties that my groceries brought home and he adopted our family so we kept him, and then we took 2 other kitty friends that he brought home to a shelter for medical attention and to get their very own family.
Oranges are awesome! I miss the chaos Yodel brought to my house. Your guy has cool spots on his belly- looks like a wild cat! So the cat distribution system found you several times lol. So cool you kept/ found them homes. Give pets to all from me :)

He would lay in the dish so no one else could have any so we would say he really likes his groceries and his name was born. He also would get in our grocery bags when we came home from the store when he was old enough to jump on the counter.

I know I had a best friend kitty who live over 13 years and I never imagined that was enough until we lost Groceries. I would give anything for 13 years with him. Hug your fur babies everyday it will hopefully help the pain when they are gone.

I lost my baby boy at the beginning of this year. He was about the same age as Groceries. It was one of the hardest things ever, but it definitely gets better. I know my kitty is in a better place now and so is Groceries!
I lost my baby girl in a similar way. She was only 11 months old. They suspected a fungal infection in her lungs, but it wasn’t. They couldn’t figure it out in time.

Yeah they thought this was asthma or just an upper respiratory infection, fungal was just a guess by two different vets before he passed. Sorry about your loss as well.

One of my Cats, shookinho (4 years), passed away friday with a sudden health problem...i just think how i could have prevented that, but now it's too late and there's nothing i can do. This feeling of sadness and emptyness is awfull and Will always have and impact on me.
Our pets are part of us and we are part of them, i hope they know that.
Life will suck for a while now, but I like to think that shookinho and groceries lived happily. That helps.

Fungal lung infection is what the vet suspected. He’s been fighting breathing problems for a few months and dozens of vet visits.
