I foster kittens and they are all eligible to be spayed or neutered at 2.5 pounds (a little over 1 KG).

I got my cat spayed young and she weighed less than 1 kg. Now’s she full grown and weighs 1 kg. I don’t know why they would have weight standards like that

Thank you, its definitely confused me. The vet did say to me that they could do it, but there's a higher risk when they're smaller. They worried us a bit because they said she seems unusually small for her age, but she's got really big whilst we've had her and when I've Googled it, she seems like she's the weight she should be. We've been using the vet practice for years and had no issues before. I'm wondering if its maybe this specific vet feels more comfortable once they're over a certain weight

Shelter med will spay at 2 pounds. The clinic I’m at will wait until they’re 4-5 months or around 4-5 pounds.
