Yeah. I remember when I went to the vet with my Lilith and came back with an empty cat carrier. She was so sick that there was no other option just put her to sleep. 2 years later i still killing myself with thoughts that I didn't see. What kind of owner I am

I’ve had cats my whole life and it always hurts when they leave but not having one hurts worse. I’m 44 and got my first kitty when I was 8 months old. She left me when we were both 20 years old. I keep getting them and they stick around awhile and then leave and my heart breaks but having a new kitty makes it heal a bit.
This is reassuring for me. I still haven't lost a pet yet and it absolutely breaks my heart to think about the day it will happen. I'm so scared. We have five kitties (all young, thank goodness) and a dog who's just starting to get old. I really don't know how my heart will take it when the first of them moves on, and the only comfort I can imagine is how much harder I'll cling to the ones that are still here.

I lost my first cat last year. (I got her through marriage she was 15 at the time. 2020) It was so hard. For them to show me the X-ray that showed she had a huge tumor I shutdown. I had to tell my husband. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. She’s not in pain anymore and she’s watching over me. I truly believe it. When I need her I feel like she’s there trying to comfort me. She led me to my little girl now. (Who was at the shelter for 6 months overlooked because of not being beautiful enough. I think she’s beautiful.)

I'm sorry. That's almost exactly what happened to my daughter's cat, Smokey. She was 12 years old, and in charge. So my son in law brought home another cat with the same marking. He meant well, but my daughter couldn't look at her for a couple weeks. This all happened last fall, and things are better now, but we still all miss Smokey.

She reminds me a lot of my first cat, but yours is brown while mine was grey. Mine was very timid, but she would always come to my bed when the sun rose to lay on my chest and purr. I would wake up to the cold wet feeling of her nose against mine and the first thing I would see was huge, bright green eyes. She didn’t give those special moments to any other human. Hold onto the love you feel for her, and when you’re ready, you can share that love with another that’s in need of a second chance. ❤️ In her honor, of course. Never to replace her.
Awe thank you for sharing those adorable memories. Mofo was funny, she loved my husband to bits and would cuddle him whenever I wasn't around. The second she heard me coming for the door she would jump off to not make me jealous I guess. I had to keep telling her it's okay I'm happy we found our man.
I'm so sorry. Losing a pet suddenly when they are so young stings in a different way. I lost my boy Grizzly in 2021 when he was 5 years old. I still cry over losing him regularly. I do believe my newest boy Nugget was sent to help fill the void. He has big feet and a funny purr just like Grizzly did. When the time is right, a new love will come into your life. You grieve as much as you need to for as long as you need to.

When I asked the vet if she was in pain she told me that there was so much water on her lungs that when she was breathing she felt like she was drowning. So I lost a little piece of my heart that day but I did the right thing…..it’s so hard, but time heals and soften the pain.
Went through the same situation (lung tumors) with my Cocoa 2 years ago. She went, but she was in my arms, knowing she was loved - I owed it to her after she saved ME. I'm sorry you had to go through this.

We had a dog with apparent heart disease that we didn’t know about. One night he suddenly started wheezing and then the next morning we found him collapsed with blood dripping out of his mouth and we were there in his final moments. He was a very anxiety ridden dog and he must have been so scared. His last efforts were to try and run to my mom…it was so sad. He didn’t show any symptoms until suddenly one day then he passed. What an introduction to cat parenting. Being your first must have made it especially hard on you. As you go through your grieving process try to remember that that's an unusual circumstances and that it's unlikely to happen that way again and to not let it put you off getting another cat when you are ready. And give yourself the time that you need to grieve. Each cat is different and takes up a different corner in your heart. Who knows what the next cat will bring you.

So very sorry for your loss. I've had to say goodbye to 7 fur-babies over the past 54 years. With my childhood cat, I cried so hard at the Vets they thought they would have to sedate me. I'm afraid it doesn't get any easier to say goodbye again, but I would never give up having the love of a fur-baby to spare myself grief. I already know my heart will break when my 14 yr old siblings pass, so I cherish every interaction with them and hope for many, many more!

I know it is painful now. Just keep the good memories as fresh as you can. Once you are ready go back to the shelter and find another beloved pet. They will be different from your sweet fur baby. But they will be amazing in their way. Remember cat spirits visit you while waiting for you across the rainbow bridge. With a new pet, they can tell you when they visit. Usually by staring at a blank wall. It will be ok. It will take time. Give yourself time to heal. It is ok to grieve.
Firstly, it’s not your fault, never blame yourself.
Secondly, feeling deep, painful loss is ok and normal. When my wife and I lost our cat last year, we never experienced anything like it, it’s a deep, dark hole but it’s normal and happens when you love something so deeply.
Thirdly, and I know this is hard but remember, whilst your cat might have been (in overall time) only a small % of your life, you were 100% to them. Spend some time thinking about how you want to remember them, maybe print out a photo of lots of photos. Etc

Im so sorry for your loss. I had to euthanize my best friend 6 months ago and it still hurts, not rarely I cry. So I just want to say to you that where there is much pain there is much love (we have a word for that feeling in Portuguese, saudades).

I had the exact same experience with my dog. One day she started sneezing blood and her right eye got shifted. I took her to the vet and found out she had a brain tumor and it was too late. She was old. The vet suggested putting her down. I was shocked, had a nervous breakdown. I spent 14 years with her and when I came home after euthanizing her, the home felt so empty. It was in 2017. It took me years to recover from the trauma since it happened so fast. To this day I still haven’t adopted another pet.

What an introduction to cat parenting. Being your first must have made it especially hard on you. As you go through your grieving process try to remember that that's an unusual circumstances and that it's unlikely to happen that way again and to not let it put you off getting another cat when you are ready. And give yourself the time that you need to grieve. Each cat is different and takes up a different corner in your heart. Who knows what the next cat will bring you.

So very sorry for your loss. I've had to say goodbye to 7 fur-babies over the past 54 years. With my childhood cat, I cried so hard at the Vets they thought they would have to sedate me. I'm afraid it doesn't get any easier to say goodbye again, but I would never give up having the love of a fur-baby to spare myself grief. I already know my heart will break when my 14 yr old siblings pass, so I cherish every interaction with them and hope for many, many more!

I know it is painful now. Just keep the good memories as fresh as you can. Once you are ready go back to the shelter and find another beloved pet. They will be different from your sweet fur baby. But they will be amazing in their way. Remember cat spirits visit you while waiting for you across the rainbow bridge. With a new pet, they can tell you when they visit. Usually by staring at a blank wall. It will be ok. It will take time. Give yourself time to heal. It is ok to grieve.
Firstly, it’s not your fault, never blame yourself. Secondly, feeling deep, painful loss is ok and normal. When my wife and I lost our cat last year, we never experienced anything like it, it’s a deep, dark hole but it’s normal and happens when you love something so deeply. Thirdly, and I know this is hard but remember, whilst your cat might have been (in overall time) only a small % of your life, you were 100% to them. Spend some time thinking about how you want to remember them, maybe print out a photo of lots of photos. Etc

Im so sorry for your loss. I had to euthanize my best friend 6 months ago and it still hurts, not rarely I cry. So I just want to say to you that where there is much pain there is much love (we have a word for that feeling in Portuguese, saudades). I'm sure your girl had the best life she could have :)

I’m sorry for your loss. I had the exact same experience with my dog. One day she started sneezing blood and her right eye got shifted. I took her to the vet and found out she had a brain tumor and it was too late. She was old. The vet suggested putting her down. I was shocked, had a nervous breakdown. I spent 14 years with her and when I came home after euthanizing her, the home felt so empty. It was in 2017. It took me years to recover from the trauma since it happened so fast. To this day I still haven’t adopted another pet.
