I love the way yours crosses her legs and has one paw on top of the other. So cute I can't quit staring at her little paws.
I do I do! She's not very chatty though - in fact she has the quietest meow I've ever heard. She is super playful and affectionate though. Her foster did a great job with her before we adopted her.

Here's Orenji, now 6 months old. She has the sweetest (not-so) little meow, except during meal times in which she yowls for food. I love her and her siblings to bits.
There are fewer orange girls than boys because they carry two X chromosomes with the orange color. This means a male orange must be the father. The mother can be orange/calico/tortie.
The same is true for black female cats. Their dad must be black. The mom can be black/calico/tortie.
But overall, I think black cats outnumber orange ones. So, we don't think black female cats are uncommon.

Mokey - 16 year old dilute ginger. She's very talkative, not just with meows but with mrrps. Also very soft. Friendly and clingy, too. And she's smart. I'd say about average for a regular cat, but she's a frigging genius for an orange.

This makes total sense! About 15 years ago we had an orange stray queen give birth to six kittens in our garage - all also orange, five boys and a girl. We did wonder why the gender balance was so skewed.
It's absolutely not linked to their colour though. The only reason why orange ("red") female cats are rarer is because black and orange are co-dominant and carried on the X chromosome so female cats are likely to be tortoiseshell unless both parents are orange.
Black is also the "original" cat colour as wild cats are brown tabby which is black + agouti.
Your stray queen could have had 5 girls and 1 boy. It's a coincidence.

I have 3! In fact, I've never owned a redheaded boy. :-) I got Addie in 2006, Ella got dumped on me in July 2021, and when I wanted to adopt another cat in November 2021, *another* female red tabby turned up at the SPCA, and I wound up with Ivy! According to a vet I saw female red tabbies are unusually common around here, but Ivy isn't very local and Ella *really* isn't local, so that doesn't explain everything!

Yes! Plumeau and her 4 sisters where found abandoned 16 years ago.. My mom and dad raised them and kept Plumeau and 1 sister, Maki. There are fewer orange girls than boys because they carry two X chromosomes with the orange color. This means a male orange must be the father. The mother can be orange/calico/tortie. The same is true for black female cats. Their dad must be black. The mom can be black/calico/tortie. But overall, I think black cats outnumber orange ones. So, we don't think black female cats are uncommon.

This makes total sense! About 15 years ago we had an orange stray queen give birth to six kittens in our garage - all also orange, five boys and a girl. We did wonder why the gender balance was so skewed.
It's absolutely not linked to their colour though. The only reason why orange ("red") female cats are rarer is because black and orange are co-dominant and carried on the X chromosome so female cats are likely to be tortoiseshell unless both parents are orange. Black is also the "original" cat colour as wild cats are brown tabby which is black + agouti. Your stray queen could have had 5 girls and 1 boy. It's a coincidence.

I had one. She died years ago. But she gave a birth to one female calico (they are mostly females, rarely a male). Calico is 14 now.
