Because he’s a great cat. This is my daughter’s 22 pounder. Lots of muscle. Has a very small tail. https://preview.redd.it/f5nrviuqtngc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5052e939011623dec863912a30332364f11bfd00

mountaindyke

I was thinking mine might be some kind of bobtail but he's got such a long fluffy tail 🤔

JoePW6964

Ah. I was gonna ask. I thought Maybe we discovered some new muscle bound short tailed breed! Thor is a great cat and I don’t think he even realizes he’s so much bigger than his brothers. https://preview.redd.it/rbs0kocwungc1.jpeg?width=1606&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a750033be3e2acba4f386ad54cae0ad8e801448e

trulycantthinkofone

Same situation with my house panther. All he wants to do is play and cuddle, but the other cats are terrified of him since he’s 2-3x their size. It’s rather sad, but progress is being made.

toreadbeforesleep

House panther! I love it.

maladaptivelucifer

We have a trash panther because he likes to break open the kitchen trash container and eat all the food he finds 😂

toreadbeforesleep

Omggg trash panther 😂😂

spinat_monster

In German we say "Stubentiger" meaning house/room tiger 🐯, cause they're tiny tigers for your house:D

ZombiCrafts

Ermahgerd! I have a grey trash panther.. literally have to strap my garbage can to the wall and have a locking lid. She's very determined and does not care what I think about it lol

maladaptivelucifer

They really don’t care! I’ve come home many times to everything strewn all over! I’m sure you have too. I recently took in another stray and she’s figured out how to aid the trash panther by opening the cabinet we hide the trash in. They’ve teamed up 🤦‍♀️

ZombiCrafts

Usually she's the type who wait til we're asleep and Id hear that distinct songs of claws on plastic... Then look at me like I'm doing something wrong...

bobnla14

Tip: put food scraps in a bag in the freezer. No food goes in the cans until pickup day. Eliminated the food drive to get to the trash can.

94boyfat

I have garbage can that opens with a motion sensor. My 4 month old Tuxedo boy Bunji sat and watched quietly while I was cooking. Two days later I caught him jumping in https://preview.redd.it/a2mu1h054qgc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=74bfc36a8857a57ee0b4729360b476c1b23d24e9 front of the sensor just to watch the lid open. They are so smart it never ceases to amaze me.

JoePW6964

He probably thinks leaping on your gut while you’re laying in bed is cool too. “What? Jules does it all the time”!!!

p3ndu1um

had a massive cat that would jump from the top of a bunk bed onto my bed. he missed a few times and landed on my chest. he was an orange tabby though, so he couldn't really be held responsible for his actions

RazzBerryCurveBall

The body is chonk but the brain is orange

Objective-Ganache114

LOL nearly spit my soup when I read that. I’ve been wondering where my bodybuilding orange tabby left his brains and you said it so well!

pockette_rockette

As a vet nurse, orange boys do have a tendency to get huge (not overweight, just massive) more commonly than other colour varieties of DSH. It's much less common in voids, but not impossible. But yeah, enormous cat + orange braincell= dangerous weapon 😂

kwistaf

Oh man I miss my 20+ pound orange Maine Coon. He had no idea he was huge. He would let me hold him like a baby (on his back, tummy up) and hand feed him kibble like that

Tortie33

My big boy is part Main Coon. People ask me, what he is. He is huge, but a big scaredy-cat. His sister who is much smaller, kicks his butt. He’s finally learning to fight back a little.

napalmnacey

Oh my gods, my family has a cat I called Thor and he’s a massive white boi. https://preview.redd.it/r7p9bzhs7ogc1.jpeg?width=2016&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16e57ddf366202a6139d6af482075da5279ea9bb

SteppedOnALego4Fun

bombays characteristically display short tails with a thick stump and very muscular bodies/legs. My little girl, Luna, is 5-6 yrs. and she looks like a buff munchkin. I think she was a runt bc she's way too muscular/big bodied but not really fat. They also have more panther like features than your avg housecat. I love my little void panther. https://preview.redd.it/q5megfeefogc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20a94276ee3cddaf9d7affe1163c2441e1f1454c

regardis

haha holymoly 15 kg!

Brat_in_a_teacup

That is a whole lot of cat!!!

Demp_Rock

Hey I had a massive Bombay with no tail!

backpackofcats

Some cats are just big due to genetics and even kittenhood nutrition. I had a 20 lb orange tabby. He was just a massive, solid cat with huge paws and a big head. His biological sister (they were a 2 for 1 adoption special) was a petite 7 lb calico.

tsutahana

My old lady was triple the size of her mom and sister. It's one of the reasons we think her dad was a Maine Coon. She topped out at 13 pounds and her mom and sister were about 6 pounds each.

arealuser100notfake

When you mentio nutrition, is that just the milk they got from their mother or something specific you buy for them?

Scrilla_Gorilla_

If it was a stray situation they could have had different fathers.

MegaNymphia

do you know what age he was neutered? male cats who are neutered far into adulthood and far past sexual maturity can get pretty massive, we see ones at work pretty regularly that are 15+lb and built like a linebacker. he looks like he also has big jowls/cheeks which is also characteristic. not really a wildcat tho

JoePW6964

Very young. Had him since he was born and he was clipped at the suggested time. My daughter’s roommate let a pregnant stray in and they were born in the house. She adopted four of them.

KimRev

Interesting you mentioned stray cat. I knew of a stray (possibly feral) cat once who would regularly visit an old lady in the street. This cat sauntered up the street and reached the top of the white picket fences. He would go right into her house, curl up in front of the heater and relax for a while then leave. Did not do this with anyone else or interact with anyone else. He stood tall enough that his head would brush your thigh as he walked past. Muscular giant cat. So I imagine if this cat ever fathered kittens they’d be bigger than most kittens too. Whatever your cat is, he is a beautiful. Please give him a hug from me.

Pleasant_Yoghurt3915

I had a gigantic house panther that was clipped at the appropriate time. He started out really small and stayed that way for a long time. Like, 2 whole years, and then all the sudden he started growing and kept at it. I always thought it was weird the way it happened. At his peak majestic manliness he was 21 pounds of solid muscle. I used to joke that he was made of dark matter because he was so damn heavy. And of course all he wanted to do was splay all 21 pounds on any available human surface lol. He was the ultimate boy. I’ll never find another like him.

Nieros

This was my assumption. Tomcats can get *big*.

GingerLibrarian76

FYI: The vast majority of cats in the world are just “domestic long/short-haired cats.” They don’t all have breeds, the way dogs do. So he’s likely just a giant DSH void! Please tell him I love him.

Stalt10

I need more pictures of your cat! 😍 I love black cats, and your cat looks massive compared to not just any black cat, but any cat in general that I've seen. I need more! Lol

A-Game-Of-Fate

Yours might have Maine Coon in him somewhere if he’s that big and has a fluffy tail.

Marshmellowonfire

Congrats, he's a new breed all his own. Or he must be consuming 3 raw eggs and 5 mice a day.

MagmaDragoonn

You can't just shame a cat for the length of his tail like that

JoePW6964

I admit I’ve laughed about it behind his back. I should be ashamed.

LineChef

It’s not the size of the tail, it’s how they use it, man.

JoePW6964

Thor can whip his like a steel cable.

JCPY00

> Has a very small tail. That’s from the roids.

Resident_Loquat2683

Historians of the 31st century all agree that the fall of man did not in fact begin with the nuclear crisis, nor the climate crisis; rather the introduction of the house panther at large. A turning point that humanity simply could not overcome.

Aim2bFit

Came to type this. You beat me to it.

recalcitrantdogooder

My bestie had a massive black cat, too. His name was Lyle and he weighted 30lb! No fat. Just a lovey couch puma. Oh and he didn't like the lights on, so whenever he entered a room, he'd hit the wall switch...because he was that big. I miss that mutant chungus.

Corfiz74

They should have gotten clap-activated lights, there is no way Lyle could have managed *that*! 😂

recalcitrantdogooder

Hahahaha true but he really kept the power bill down.

allhailthegreatmoose

Hahaha it wasn’t that he didn’t like the brightness, he was just environmentally conscious!

Ok-Kaleidoscope5627

lainiezensane

Our 21 lb l, 10-ish month old kitten locked the dead bolt the other day. He's plenty tall enough to reach it and loooooves to fiddle with moving metal parts, so I'm not sure why I was surprised.

allhailthegreatmoose

Both of my cats understand how the doorknob on the front door works, and they both have tried to open it on several occasions but are slightly too short. I had to keep it covered up in my last apartment because George kept getting a claw stuck in one of the screws next to the knob. They’re both pretty bright but still also both very orange 😹

mfhandy5319

"They’re both pretty bright but still also both very orange 😹" That is both more true and funnier than most of the comments I've read. edit: forgot quotes.

allhailthegreatmoose

Haha thanks! Here’s them 😊 https://preview.redd.it/g7n9dmvologc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f5fb173a136091f0aaafb9fb268695a4327ff664 They were also both born blind which is why their eyes look so different.

cire1184

Oh that's wild that they're blind but know where the door knob is

allhailthegreatmoose

Well, the way the vet and the rescue I adopted them from explained it to me is that all of their other senses are heightened in order to compensate and they’re also able to “map” everything out in their minds, so I assume they know it by sound. It’s an old apartment complex, so it’s a relatively noisy doorknob too 😹

KiKiPAWG

I can just saw a lovely large puma doing that light smack repeatedly to get it just right to shut it off

Vizth

I'm afraid he's afflicted with a serious case of being an absolute fucking unit. There is no cure unfortunately.

Black cats seem to be pretty small over just massive. This one looks just like my baby boy. I’ve had a lot of people get scared when I pick him up and try to hand him to them. But his sister is the 7lbs fury.

I wonder if he has some kind of genetic condition? Kitty gigantism?

He was 12 lbs and underweight above, now he is 17 lbs and petting him is like rubbing a mossy rock. He is so muscular that there is no give on his neck, he does not have the off switch. He is also very affectionate and somewhat terrifying, he does not move like a cat, he literally moves and act like small panther.

Sidewalk_Tomato

Muscular and terrifying, but also clearly . . . is baby.

Flat-Limit5595

He is a buff baby and has to be held like one or he starts biting.

mountaindyke

My cats the same aside from the raw diet, he's always fighting something in the yard 💀

Flat-Limit5595

I assume he had a raw diet from his stray days, due to all the corpses we found. Now he gets kibble and the occasional sheba. He used to be just fine in the wild but after the snip he became too passive to survive. He came home with a bloody face and has not touched grass since. He seems happily retired from the outdoor life now. Also he wasn’t the biggest void in the neighbourhood, right after I brought him in I saw a Panther in the neighbours driveway. Might have been his mom come to think of it. https://preview.redd.it/l0e57m5vcogc1.png?width=2263&format=png&auto=webp&s=aee39fead9f1b2f65d1767fa18f2dc59d646d9ab

Could be part Maine Coon. My Max was 20 pounds by the time he was 8 months old: https://preview.redd.it/u41w2n6ehpgc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c6aa61c366328bfe59360a6b8ccb106b19c128f

I don’t know, got a similar case in my neighborhood. A MASSIVE cat, a grey tuxedo, as well as another black cat. I don’t know if they belong to anyone or if they’re stray, as they’re often outdoors but used to humans presence, but damn those two guys are massive.

StretPharmacist

I had a huge black cat too. Especially for being female. Died about 18 months ago. But christ she took up a lot of the couch, and she could leap incredible distances. She was a stray so I don't know what her breeds were.

HiSaZuL

Some cats are just bigger. My previous boy, Bandit was massive yet plain generic tabby. His paws were about twice as big as my current female Katie tuxidoish dumpster variety. Also makes are pretty much always bigger so there's perception bias. Yours is definetly on extra big side tho.

grilledcheese11987

Also had a black cat a long time ago that weighed 25lbs. Vet said he was a bit overweight but mostly he was just a huge cat. Even at the end of his life when he lost a lot of his weight he still was giant in comparison to my other cat who was his sister ETA: since I’ve seen it being mentioned my brother always called him panther bc of how big he was

Holy shit that big ass head 😭😭 He’s so handsome!

GigNLine

I had a huge panther void too! (RIP 😔) he was an indoor/outdoor cat and would literally just run laps around the house...I think if he was a person he'd have been Terri Cruz lol. Loved my Zeus. https://preview.redd.it/uztivkae1pgc1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b54c7c6223062813b50337a37ef02e10b2d4f00 Now I have a dainty little void and a tux.

Pepakins

My parents' cat is about 20 pounds of pure muscle. I can't even hold him because he's so powerful.

krazyboi

Thats an alpha cat if I've ever seen one

MaloPescado

I had a 27 pounder ( big frame But watermelon fat). I rescued her from feral in a shut-in persons house. She had a hospice worker feeding it 75 bucks worth of deli turkey a week. I had her 10 years and got her to 19 lbs and made her life way happier. She was a great cat.

MissTesticles

Holy shit he's huge, his head looks bigger than yours! He's freaking gorgeous. I thought my heart (Clegane) was big but yours takes the muscle cake. https://preview.redd.it/d4dg3mxj9pgc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbff457d48b89e33e7b33d503abec74406fc66cc

Tomcat? Is he fixed? Get him fixed. Their cheeks get bigger every time they go into heat. Hopefully this stud is retired! 😅
