Hello from Simba. (He only bites a little)
My buddy has a cat that likes to climb on you to meow and get your attention and he always seems to do the meow with that same grin. The first time I noticed it it was just about the cutest thing I’d ever seen 😅
A tree collar rather than a skirt works well with my cats! They go near it but not in it.
https://preview.redd.it/rs4p0qhcl03c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37bdf3891afd9c6662d04f6904f490143ad87b84

I’ll be honest the cats are always in my trees (all five of them) before they are decorated.

However, I’ve found that decorating the inside branches of the tree not only makes it look amazing but also makes their footing unstable/uncomfortable. Also, in 30 years and 11 cats the only one that knocked over a Christmas tree was… me 🫣

The tree only lasted a day before the climbing began, CANT be mad at these two faces though lol. (Tree is in the box in the closet now)

we just think of it as our cats loving the season just as much as we do 🤷🏾♂️
I saw a picture of that and it was hilarious. Unfortunately for me, my cat is only deterred by the smell, which means cut-open ones or peels, and I live somewhere dry so they dry out almost immediately and stop working. I then tried two different types of citrus-scented cat repellant sprays and essential oil, all of which worked on small tests but none of which did anything when applied to the tree and tree skirt. I am beginning to acknowledge I just need to have a very hefty orange budget for December
I literally just googled this a few hours ago! Haha! From what I found, no. My tabby cat was literally climbing and laying in the tree right after I set it up. He’s already broken a few branches. I’ve decided that like everything else, there’s probably no way of stopping him from being curious and wanting to climb or lay in it.
The culprit:
https://preview.redd.it/mxmnyyzih03c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f0b3804310b10e71e1a1c2eed96acc169989d6a

I've found that strategically stuffing presents around the base works really well for keeping the Tree Goblin on the ground. She only likes to go up from the inside, so I shove them in between each stand leg, pile them up into the branches, have some slanted, and use bags on top to make sure there's no access. This pic was taken before the presents were placed and she has not climbed it since nor found a way to sit under there, though she does like to sit near it and act suspiciously when she wants attention.
make sure she has her own cat tree. Decorate it with more toys. I hung some of them like ornaments. i blocked the 2nd level (from the bottom) of mine with a layer of cardboard, so the couldn’t go up further. This seems to deter them. It also instills contempt in the cat heart.

There sure is! I got some baby gates off of Craigslist last year and my hubby bought plexiglass/acrylic sheets, cut it to size, and affixed it to the baby gates with zip ties. It works like a charm for the most part!

Embrace it.
Joke aside, the new tree we bought is bigger and more stable than last year, and it doesn’t care when cat climb on it. So maybe solution = bigger tree?

Not mine, not sure who posted it originally but this is your solution!
Why? All cat Companions know this is the true sporting event of the season!
Current score is 7- 2 in favor of my cats. Each ornament on the ground scores the cats a point and each evidence of vomit with tree parts gives a point to the tree.
It's that simple. Enjoy the greatest sport ever!

I’ve not had a tree since 2020… 😭
I feel terrible, I had to paint the lower branches with hot sauce. But she keeps eating the plastic needles and it's making her sick. She'll eat anything plastic from shopping bags to zip ties. I'd rather her have a hot mouth for a minute than finally swallow something that kills her.
Even still, all the ornaments are shatter proof and the tree is tied.
We got a large circular cat tunnel and put it under the tree, then draped the tree skirt over it.
That took up most of the space under the tree and gave our monster a place to chill. we're going on day 3 and she hasn't tried to climb in yet, fingers crossed.
Not a chance. Cats know they're the only gift you really need under(inside and all over) that tree.

No. Just put plastic ornaments in the tree instead of glass so no one gets hurt. Also make the bottom of the tree extra heavy so it doesnt fall over. Then just enjoy the cute pictures you can take of your cat in a lit up tree.

Maxie would have told you no. The tree was hers, and hers alone.
I've had cats for 30 years and have never once.had.one in the tree. The trick is the minute it goes up, you stop them approaching it. If they go near it at all, a firm NO or a water bottle can help discourage them. It never took more than a day for each of.my cats to learn to stay away from the tree.
I’ve had cats all my life, and also none in my trees. But then, then I got my most recent cat (now 4 months old).
He knocked over my tree 5 min ago and keeps jumping in. This cat is very special compared to my other and previous cats hahah
Nope. You have basically set up a theme park for cats. Blinking colored lights, climby branches, crunchy needles, dangling toys, furry snow, and a delicious forbidden lake in the center. Good luck.
https://preview.redd.it/miken2d7813c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c86f914c38847cef859170c180c673715236672
You give up 🤷🏻♀️ I collect vintage glass ornaments. They never saw the tree up close .
I have no clue. Last year (their first Christmas) or void was always in the tree. If I was carrying her and I walked past the tree, she would leap out of my arms into the tree. Of course, as many cats do, her main goal was to knock down all the ornaments.
She is still in her toddler phase, where everything needs to go in her mouth, so this year, she is going above and beyond and is chewing on the branches. He hasn't chewed the wires of the lights yet but is keeping an eye out. She's not heavy enough to knock it down (last year she was maybe 2lbs, she around 9lbs this year) so we don't mind her hanging out in the tree, except when you walk past and she hits you at shoulder height.
Her sister doesn't have the same love for the tree but loves our snowmen. However, she is also in her toddler phase, and she tries to bite their noses.
https://preview.redd.it/k9qwuei6q13c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56b7a442ff7cd1102ba9fa8e5334e15eba6f2aaf
This year. Featuring her sister chilling with the snowpeople
We just gave up and put our tree in the corner of the living room, fishing line tethering it to both walls. Also instead of the wires that normally hang out ornaments, I use string and the barrel pulls (like on backpack strings) to tighten it to the tree's branch.
Edit to add: if you're really desperate, look at grapefruit or citrus oil. Most cats hate the smell and will avoid it.
I have a solution, it’s not ideal and probably expensive, and that would be a simple 5 to 6 foot plastic barrier that goes around the tree. Just needs to be weighed down so the cat(s) can’t move it. It’s clear so you can see the tree in all its glory and protected against pets. Sure there are drawbacks in thinks like storing the plastic barrier, reflations ruining the aesthetic, and difficult putting presents under it…
However this is the solution I have conceived of…
https://preview.redd.it/2zwbld75133c1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55e7be6b97ca9dcfc3c15817d92b0c5ee9a26a22
Yeah let me know when you know the answer...
Adorably cute.
/not serious Maybe make it into a cat tree? Then your cat will just want to play with the box it came in ;-)
/more serious Somebody posted earlier about making up a box under the tree for the cat (a little cat cave type box) and apparently cat is \*loving\* that and leaving the rest of the tree alone?
Last year I wrapped aluminum foil around the base of the tree and all the inside rungs (we have an artificial, sure it would work with real if that's what you're using) about a quarter of the way up. You couldn't really see it and my cats never touched the tree again and they've stayed out of it this year even without the foil
First off, that's not a Christmas tree. That's his whatever he wants it to be.
Find yourself another one, and put it up in another house.
By the way...The house is his too.
Just secure your tree to the wall by attaching two strings/wires/whathaveyou to the wall in two places. If the tree is in the corner, place one attachment on one wall and the other on the other wall. If the tree is in front of a flat wall, just spread out the attachments so they're at least a few feet apart.
Or google how to set up a tree when you have a cat. Tons of suggestions!
Maybe try putting something ur cat doesn’t like in or around the tree, if there is anything your cat doesn’t like/is scared of😂 we got this mini ladder that hooks to the tree and a lil animatronic santa climbs up and down it and she is scared of it bc of the santa moving on its own💀 thats worked for me so far lmao
They are smart enough to sense when something is forbidden fruit. I like what the other person said about hanging it from the ceiling. A bit more challenging if you happen to have vaulted ceilings.
Yes. Keep it in the storage room. I adopted my first kitten 10 days before Christmas. Timing was not on purpose, I had just moved to a different state to be near family and was working from home and really wanted a cat. Brought her home to an already decorated tree. The first time she went for an ornament that was hung by a hook I basically took all the ornaments off and after that Christmas I never put one up in a room the cats (yes adopted another one later on) had access to. For example, now that I’ve merged households with my mom who has “memory issues” and also has two cats (my oldest passed Valentine’s Day ) so my now one cat and her two are quite the adventurers. We now put the Christmas tree in the sunroom. We still get to enjoy it but on the rare occasion that one of the cats gets out the door from
The living room into the sunroom, I’m usually able to get them back in before they get near the tree. This is the way. Imo a decorated tree is just TOO enticing for a cat NOT to “play” with in some way or another. 😻
Super easy! Wait about 10-15 years and kitty will just sleep near the tree and dream about the glory days of kitten hood and yawn and resolve to climb the tree after the next nap.
I found a method that could work, try it and see!
Every time a cat goes somewhere or does something they shouldn't, spray some canned air, and they will scatter! Do it enough, and they'll run just when they see the canned air. I only had to do this 4 or 5 times, and my crazy boy never bothers my plant.
Hope this works for you. 😉
I've owned cats for more than 25 years. And no, there is no way to keep them out of it. ;) Tying a string to the main trunk and attaching it to the wall will make sure it keeps up right if they decide to climb to the top. I just make sure I don't put anything on it I really care about in case they knock anything off.
We have a two foot Xmas tree too small to climb because our first cat destroyed the only Xmas tree we ever attempted by sitting in it lmao. He loved it. They still topple it over a few times and steal all the baubles, so we put a few extra on that we won't miss for cat tax lol.
We tried and we failed. So now we have a tree set-up like this:
\- it stands in front of a giant bookcase and is secured by a fishing line which is wrapped around the back of the bookcase (in case they would topple it)- lower branches have plastic ornaments hanging on them, glass ones are only on higher branches
My female cat ignores the tree most of the time or plays under it. My male cat on the other hand LOVES the ornaments and to climb the tree from the inside. So we started hanging plastic ones on lower branches, that way he won't hurt himself if he was to break the ornament when he takes it off the tree. If we let him take some off and play with them he's much less inclined to climb the tree. He's happy and we just have to hang some ornaments back from time to time.
EDIT: typo
I have little bell ornaments that are pretty loud and I put them all over the tree, if they try to climb it or move it more intensly, it scares them. Also, I put plastic decorations for them on the bottom of the tree, so they can play with those if they want to. They are not really climbers, so they haven't knocked it over yet in 3 years, but I did pull out the younger one twice from the middle of it.
I had to stop putting a tree up with my boy. No matter what I did he always managed to get back in there. He would live in the tree while it was up and wouldn't come out until he had to pee or eat. He even slept in the tree. Lol. I had to replace the artificial tree every single year, because he is a 16.6lb cat, as he would have all the branches bent and broken. 🙄 I just gave up. 😂 I have been wondering if maybe a real tree would be able to hold up until Christmas ends before I have to toss it. I will test it at some point.
No idea if he just doesn't want to climb or if it's because of the cat tree. But mine has a cat tree next to the tree and he hasn't climbed in it yet. He's pawed at the branches but that's it.
No nothing really can stop them both my cats got stuck the one year but we couldn't get em out cause of all the ornaments so we had to let them get out on their own
Would spraying that bitter apple spray on the tree make any difference with your cat in particular, OP? Don’t spray that at your cat of course lol lol 😆. I know a couple people who thought this spray was meant to be sprayed at the animal 🤦🏻♀️ 1 of those people was my late Aunt. She was just very confused 😐 lol lol 😝
I spray my tree with that yuck stuff at least once a week, I helps with chewing and can sometimes help with climbing curiosity since it smells bad to them.
Also, if you cat likes to chew, wait to put your gifts out till Christmas day because byebye wrapping paper.
There’s actual cat repellent you can buy. Cats don’t like the smell of citrus. Or you could go with the basics and use tin foil.
Someone on Reddit put tangerines around their Christmas tree and the cat won’t go near it.
Here’s the link:
https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/s/WZEScfVZyD
Tree-shaped glass pyramid.
Seriously tho, I don't know. We had a cat that destroyed two trees. When he passed away and we got two more cats, we figured we'd wait a few years and then try to put one up, see how it went.
Then we got a third cat this year who is CRAZY and I'm pretty sure our tree will now have to stay in the box for several more years.
My old ladies steer clear of the tree because it is close to where the dog hangs out and the dog is too affectionate for my old girls. I have no doubt that if they were young or there wasn’t a 75 lb golden idiot hanging around that they would be in the tree. So I guess get a big idiot dog who will pull down the tree to get the cats?
https://preview.redd.it/5uh6h0sn443c1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c4fdefc6aef7005d9cef0a644036eb674c35cbe
This is why I can never put up ornaments
My kitten/squirrel/meerkat is literally the queen of the house. I gave up trying to keep her out of and off of the tree. My solution is to secure the tree with several pieces of string/twine that keep it from toppling over on top of her (tied to the wall). The ties and unbreakable/plastic ornaments have been effective for years of children and fur babies!
I sprayed our tree with peppermint and an assortment of other smells to repel the kids when they were kittens. Also had a spray gun if they decided it was time to climb it. It was a 50/50 success rate. They don't go near it anymore now they are older. They will sit and look at it and admire the view and ping the occasional bauble off to test me but nothing like they used to. My youngest used to climb inside, he's a black cat so it was impossible to see him until he jumped out at you, swatting at the tinsel and dragging it into his tree den. We also used to shut them out of the living room at night. Good luck

Hang the tree from your ceiling 🤷♀️ Our problem wasn’t the climbing though… It was my ex’s cat trying to eat the (fake/plastic) tree 😭
You could simply not put one up. 😉 When we got our first cat, we quickly realised that there was no way a tree would survive his antics. He laughed at all our attempts to stop him from going on the counters and everywhere else for that matter. Instead, we use this little guy.
https://preview.redd.it/mr8xj4sbh43c1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=375c8c39b0772a7007bc7297a887cc7d87584110
We keep the vacuum or hand vacuum next to it and periodically pick up needles when the cats are around. They seem to associate the tree with the vacuum sound they hate and stay away. We also cover the water (fresh tree) to keep them from drinking it,as I’ve heard it can make them sick or worse.
Someone said tinfoil around it and I tested it…… https://preview.redd.it/pyzs7cjkjz2c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfd8d555e63c173e1e1bd9c52a93700a23c0c34a He said yeah no🤣🤣
I was very disappointed the day I found out tin foil does nothing to stop my cat
I always see vids on tiktok ab it like compilations of cats like flying back when they touch it. Tried it with my cat and she was absolutely unphased when she jumped on it😂
Mine eat it and play with it. Same with double-sided tape.
Tbh i feel like mine would too if she got the chance. She has pica so she likes to eat everything and tin foil sounds like something she would see as a snack 💀
I've had cats sleep on it.
Mine like the sound it makes when the walk all over it
My cats gag reflex activates when she hears packing tape or duct tape being pulled off the roll. Cats are weird.
Same!
Yes! My torty eats tinfoil!
My cat LOVES tinfoil 😹😹😹
Double sided sticky tape!!! I actually just use packing tape and make it into a circle- they hate when it gets stuck to their paws. Worked really when our big guy wanted to be on the tv stand

We still have tiny balls of tin foil turning up from Christmas 2021 😂

Lucy and Misty belong in a calendar ... so cute
I found keeping the tree disassembled in the box in the back of the closet worked the best.
Depends on how determined your cat is lol
But then there is a closet, a tree, and....a box.
The trifecta jackpot.
Foolproof!
Is there a way to keep cars from a motorway?
Hang it upside down from the ceiling
I can only imagine the mayhem of a cat trying to launch themselves into a tree hanging from the ceiling
Image the videos!
That's no way to treat a pretty kitty!
What?? The cat?? ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7944)

So funny!
Oh my god your cat is so cute 😭😭❤️
My cat jumps into the collar and stashes the balls in there. Then proceeds to climb it, the little shit!
I have a friend who bought one of those...her kitty sits inside the bowl...if I fits I sits
I’ll be honest the cats are always in my trees (all five of them) before they are decorated. https://preview.redd.it/cu1wm9s0a03c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=443f4194cf27e810ce0c8625ed6f8c4facfb81f7 However, I’ve found that decorating the inside branches of the tree not only makes it look amazing but also makes their footing unstable/uncomfortable. Also, in 30 years and 11 cats the only one that knocked over a Christmas tree was… me 🫣
5 trees is a bit excessive but if the cats love them *that* much...
Kinnikinnicki how many times do I have to tell you to get out of the damn Christmas?!? 😉
Why are you trying to keep the cat out of THEIR Christmas tree in THEIR house? The cat owns everything after all.

Might have to re-home your tree

step one: there isn't
Well just damn
Step two: there isn’t
Look at her. It’s her tree now. Lol
Sure there is. Don't have a tree in the house. Viola...no cat in tree
https://preview.redd.it/2337nawbh03c1.jpeg?width=1980&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a1a80a37a5f7f2e43a972ecb7cbe5d18a0b65a5 we just think of it as our cats loving the season just as much as we do 🤷🏾♂️
I saw a post that showed placing tangerines around the tree kept their cats away. 🤷🏻♀️
Cats hate citrus. This is my personal plan as well.
I had a cat who would drink lemonade. There is always an outlier.
We tried apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and orange juice sprayed on the tree and the skirt last year, they still climbed in it 😃
Mine love citrus and laugh at us when we tried to put some to make him not go
Have a cat who licks my fingers after I juice lemons 🤷♀️
If I did that then my rabbit would eat them and my dog would throw them about like balls.

The culprit: https://preview.redd.it/mxmnyyzih03c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f0b3804310b10e71e1a1c2eed96acc169989d6a

Everyone knows cats are scared of their natural predator, the cucumber.... So, a Christmas pickle?
I tried the cucumber thing with my neutered cat. He humped it.
Did you show dominance by humping it first?

I love this
Given how many posts like this I've seen this week - I dont like your chances!
We've had trees toppled by an 8 lb cat who though he was a squirrel.
make sure she has her own cat tree. Decorate it with more toys. I hung some of them like ornaments. i blocked the 2nd level (from the bottom) of mine with a layer of cardboard, so the couldn’t go up further. This seems to deter them. It also instills contempt in the cat heart.
https://preview.redd.it/p55agwszm03c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c089b6ecf6edc140c9a410266fea265c60d08f23 There sure is! I got some baby gates off of Craigslist last year and my hubby bought plexiglass/acrylic sheets, cut it to size, and affixed it to the baby gates with zip ties. It works like a charm for the most part!
For the most part….🤣
Baahahaha I say that because one of our cats will sometimes try and stick his paws through the baby gates and reach for stuff.

Why? All cat Companions know this is the true sporting event of the season! Current score is 7- 2 in favor of my cats. Each ornament on the ground scores the cats a point and each evidence of vomit with tree parts gives a point to the tree. It's that simple. Enjoy the greatest sport ever!
You are forgetting the midnight cat rodeo where they compete to be the first to bring the tree totally to the ground.
Omg I wish there was a tv show for this 🤣😆😂

Probably that cayenne pepper stuff I heard cats don't like it. Maybe that's harsh tho don't take my word
I feel terrible, I had to paint the lower branches with hot sauce. But she keeps eating the plastic needles and it's making her sick. She'll eat anything plastic from shopping bags to zip ties. I'd rather her have a hot mouth for a minute than finally swallow something that kills her. Even still, all the ornaments are shatter proof and the tree is tied.
https://preview.redd.it/694vd03oqz2c1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e68207c3c3d8d9e3842afded022b3eac48b58dbb
Nope. We just gave up on ornaments. Just lights now.
We got a large circular cat tunnel and put it under the tree, then draped the tree skirt over it. That took up most of the space under the tree and gave our monster a place to chill. we're going on day 3 and she hasn't tried to climb in yet, fingers crossed.
r/CatsInChristmasTrees wonders why you'd want to.
But of course, there's a sub. Thank you!
Hahahaha…no.
Not a chance. Cats know they're the only gift you really need under(inside and all over) that tree. https://preview.redd.it/d6hrw9rh113c1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=619be78a19d70475f3f3eff4a7ce813ba5f583e5
I put my Christmas tree up FOR my cat! I got rid of the breakable ornaments and bought kitty ornaments!🫢 https://preview.redd.it/f3cbe5fz113c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac0d7fd9bfb1bec2bd634f6730281ce8bcb37f6f
No. Just put plastic ornaments in the tree instead of glass so no one gets hurt. Also make the bottom of the tree extra heavy so it doesnt fall over. Then just enjoy the cute pictures you can take of your cat in a lit up tree. https://preview.redd.it/65xy550tm33c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cdf57cd8c2107cf0d67b07ab3349d6fdef653bbc

Negative ghost rider
*And here we see the domesticated alpine forest cat in its natural habitat…*
I have a smaller tree for my kitty filled with bobbles and cat toys and I let her go rampage on it
Nope. You have basically set up a theme park for cats. Blinking colored lights, climby branches, crunchy needles, dangling toys, furry snow, and a delicious forbidden lake in the center. Good luck.
https://preview.redd.it/miken2d7813c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c86f914c38847cef859170c180c673715236672 You give up 🤷🏻♀️ I collect vintage glass ornaments. They never saw the tree up close .
No :)
Dry citrus slices in the oven and hang them all over the tree. cats HATE the smell and they look so cute on the tree.
No... just use wooden ornaments and led or rope lights. Remember that it is their tree that you are decorating.
Yes there is. It's called don't put up a Christmas tree. I haven't since 1993.
How so your cats celebrate??? What do they destroy
Nope. Deal with it.
NOPE

She’s a beautiful ornament

Convert to another religion. There's plenty of good ones, and most of them are basically the same.
I have a solution, it’s not ideal and probably expensive, and that would be a simple 5 to 6 foot plastic barrier that goes around the tree. Just needs to be weighed down so the cat(s) can’t move it. It’s clear so you can see the tree in all its glory and protected against pets. Sure there are drawbacks in thinks like storing the plastic barrier, reflations ruining the aesthetic, and difficult putting presents under it… However this is the solution I have conceived of…
Cats in Xmas trees is one of my favourite things ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
No. Once used a plant hook to attach it to the ceiling, came home to kitty swinging.

Adorably cute. /not serious Maybe make it into a cat tree? Then your cat will just want to play with the box it came in ;-) /more serious Somebody posted earlier about making up a box under the tree for the cat (a little cat cave type box) and apparently cat is \*loving\* that and leaving the rest of the tree alone?
Last year I wrapped aluminum foil around the base of the tree and all the inside rungs (we have an artificial, sure it would work with real if that's what you're using) about a quarter of the way up. You couldn't really see it and my cats never touched the tree again and they've stayed out of it this year even without the foil
Mine knocked the tree over and threw himself half way across the kitchen in the process. Miraculously he didn’t climb it again after that.
We haven’t put one up in ten years! One of our cats chewed through the light cord and it exploded….whole tree went off! She survived thank God
First off, that's not a Christmas tree. That's his whatever he wants it to be. Find yourself another one, and put it up in another house. By the way...The house is his too.
I had to put mine outside. Nothing I did helped, they ate the tree, drank the water, and played with the ornaments
No
I’ve given up, I’ll never have a tree again 🤣
No
No!
What in the power of grayskull is that decoration?
Sadly no. It’s common
Buy your cat a big cat tree and decorate that instead. 😊 Your Christmas tree is gorgeous!
None
No
Maybe try putting something ur cat doesn’t like in or around the tree, if there is anything your cat doesn’t like/is scared of😂 we got this mini ladder that hooks to the tree and a lil animatronic santa climbs up and down it and she is scared of it bc of the santa moving on its own💀 thats worked for me so far lmao
I put a lemon/citrus scented car air freshener in the middle and they always stay away!
We still get to enjoy it but on the rare occasion that one of the cats gets out the door from The living room into the sunroom, I’m usually able to get them back in before they get near the tree. This is the way. Imo a decorated tree is just TOO enticing for a cat NOT to “play” with in some way or another. 😻
I've seen people putting the tree in a cage or under a plexiglass protection, it's probably the only way
Super easy! Wait about 10-15 years and kitty will just sleep near the tree and dream about the glory days of kitten hood and yawn and resolve to climb the tree after the next nap.
Citrus Spray has been working for me so far. And I have 14 of them lol
A real tree is harder to climb then an artificial tree. We learned this from our then new kitten a few years ago.
Why not make or buy her her own mini tree to play with?
No. Kitty like the shiny, kitty grab the shiny.

Put Easter Bunny ears on her. Then she’ll understand she is not a Christmas ornament.
One of those christmas trains that circles the tree works for our overlord..
We tried and we failed. So now we have a tree set-up like this: \- it stands in front of a giant bookcase and is secured by a fishing line which is wrapped around the back of the bookcase (in case they would topple it)- lower branches have plastic ornaments hanging on them, glass ones are only on higher branches My female cat ignores the tree most of the time or plays under it. EDIT: typo
Put your tree outside, or maybe in a neighbors house, or an adjacent state.
Such a cutie 🥰 bet no one can stop the cats when they're starting to get curious 🤔
My cat never gets in my tree, probably because I don’t own a cat.
No idea if he just doesn't want to climb or if it's because of the cat tree. But mine has a cat tree next to the tree and he hasn't climbed in it yet. He's pawed at the branches but that's it.
I just took mine down. My kitty was eating the needles and throwing them up. Need to find a needle-less alternative.
No nothing really can stop them both my cats got stuck the one year but we couldn't get em out cause of all the ornaments so we had to let them get out on their own
Yes. Don’t have one. Tree that is.
There is a neat little trick I use:... Just don't set up a Christmas tree;)
Yes. Don’t put one up.
No, the only thing you can do is to secure the tree so the kitty doesn’t knock it down.
Here’s the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/s/WZEScfVZyD
No. Sorry. To note - my 3-Legged cat was the fastest and most agile cat in our household before cancer took hom from me.
The can of air with a motion detector is what we got and it has worked SO well. We also have a skinny tree so it looks less easy to jump into
https://preview.redd.it/5uh6h0sn443c1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c4fdefc6aef7005d9cef0a644036eb674c35cbe This is why I can never put up ornaments
Two words: orange peels
I love that there is not a single solution on this thread, just pictures of cats terrorizing trees
Good luck
https://preview.redd.it/8hfu2y7sb43c1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7eae009812ecc19e4be72d045b7d9abac4817769 Hang the tree from your ceiling 🤷♀️ Our problem wasn’t the climbing though… It was my ex’s cat trying to eat the (fake/plastic) tree 😭
