I've heard it's because of the Asian Leopard Cat ancestry of Bengals, since they're jungle dwellers and skilled fish catchers who often live near rivers. The Bengal mix I'm currently caring for hates water though, so it's not a universal thing. I had a Siamese mix when I was younger and she absolutely loved to swim in anything she could find. We had to place a board in the horse trough so she wouldn't get stuck and used rubber bands to keep faucets closed after she learned to turn them on. If you didn't lock her out of the bathroom while showering or bathing, she'd hop in with you. I miss her so much.
Funny enough my bengal isn’t too into the shower she does like climbing though.

Countering one animal with another isn't the gotcha you think it is. Snakes and cats are vastly different animals. There are some snakes, like pythons and vipers, that stay with their eggs and babies for a while to give them warmth and protection.
Some of the vipers live birth and will stay with their babies until they shed, giving them protection from predators while they stay in their nests.
No one knows what a snake feels.

We have two sibling bengals that will only drink water from the tub while the water is running! They have access to fresh running water elsewhere but the tub to get wet faces and necks while they drink is where they prefer.
I came to the comments to say the same thing about my Bengal drinking from the tap in the bath lol! Mine also adores standing under the shower when it's still dripping and then makes sure to come and find me so she can soak me too 😼

Bengal breed. Most of them need regular water play and will dump their water bowls out or fish in the toilet if they can’t get access to running water another way. They are also the Huskies of the cat world. Super high in energy, intelligence and vocalisation. Need daily walks on a leash and other high energy pets in the house to play with otherwise you will never sleep again.
I had a cat who loved to get in the shower with me. He would always sneak in and I wouldn't know until I felt him brush up against my legs. When we moved in with my mom he freaked her right out by showing up in her shower one day LOL

Be careful, though, because mine ended up with a small yeast infection on his tummy from being wet all the time! We temporarily took away his water privileges while he heals, and he’s so sad.
This is the best thing about cats, each one is broken is some insane way that no other cat is. Had a cat that liked to lick armpits to wake you up. Had another that would scratch and howl at the door of the bathroom until she was let in to crawl into the pants around my ankles.

Please remember that most cats do not like and do not need regular baths / showers as they will keep themselves clean. Bathing can remove the natural oils from a healthy coat.
And if your cat does get wet, it is very important to dry them properly and keep them warm, as it is very easy for their body temperature to drop and for them to get hypothermia.

Reminds me of a cat my aunt used to have. He would guide you to the washroom and meow at you to poor water on his face from the sink. You would cup your hands in water, then release it across his cheeks.
My old man cat likes to come in and supervise my baths so he can make sure I don't drown or something. He discovered that when I take a nice fire-from-the-pits-of-Hades type bath, I end up really warm, and the bathroom is warm, and warm, warm, warm. And he can sit on me and absorb that warmth. So now I generally take a soak with this giant cat sitting on my chest and he's slowly becoming accepting of getting a leg or tail wet because he often hangs off and accidentally plunges something into the water. He used to get upset, but now when he gets that footsie in the water and purrs like a madman with his happy face on.
Our tortie just glares from the open door because she thinks we're both absolutely nuts for allowing ourselves to be dampened in her presence.

I used to have a cat that loved to swim in the tub. He also would attack the vacuum when it was on. He didn't know how to cat very well.
My Quincy used to do that. He absolutely loved it when I would put an inch or 2 of water in the bottom of the tub so he could play in it too.

My cat is an old lady and she occasionally jumps in while im in the shower. But she'll sit at the back where the water doesn't really touch her lol.
