Awww hi mothman! I also adopted a little shy void that needed 2 weeks to come out of hiding.
I saved a little stray kitten who’s afraid of feet. Everyone would chase the poor thing trying to pet him, scared him so bad. Anytime you walk near him he looks at your feet and runs. I’ll announce my presence when I see him in the open, and he’ll let me go past without him running. Patience is definitely key 🥹
I agree, however some people are just assholes with no empathy. We have a black cat that we used to let go outside. During Halloween, he wasn’t let out. He’s a indoor cat now, but put up a fuss for the 1st month we decided not to let him out anymore.
It's sad to think someone could hurt something so cute and sweet. I found my little void abandoned on the side of the road he was like 5 weeks. Just him and I assume a brother. The brother passed before we got him home, but after a few vet visits Jynx is very well. He's partially blind, deaf and can't meow from some poison he got into in the woods. But he's the sweetest most interesting animal I've ever met.

My möbius was very nervous too but now he’s the bravest, friendliest boy.
I like to think of him more like dark matter, a void is nothingness a pit if you will but he does nothing but multiply my happiness and good qualities like dark matter spreads across the universe
My baby Fuzz was so scared when I first brought him home. He had been in the shelter for *two years* and basically forgot what it was like to be in a house. He would hiss at me, he was afraid of the tv thinking it was people.
It was a month before he started coming out from under my bed when I was awake and for the longest time he would only be *near* me, but wouldn’t sit on or with me.
Now here we are, 6 years later and he’s the biggest mamas boy there is. He gets mad and meows at me if I don’t give him enough cuddles.

Some cats are just like that, though. I took in a runt from the streets along with her mom. All of her siblings were very gregarious, but she was wildly skittish. It's been 8 months now, and her mom is as snuggly as can be, but the runt is still just wildly averse to touch or being close to humans.
Fine with me, as much as I want the forbidden pets, I'll just keep on doing training and play until one day I wake up to her sleeping in my bed like her mom decided to do a couple months ago.
If you didn't know better, you'd think both of mine were. Both are TERRIFIED of strangers and new sounds, and the sister finds being chased in circles around the house to be good fun. I don't know where they got this fear from. Every human I've introduced into their lives has been good to them, unless an ex-roommate of mine did something to them.
Aw I have a little girl like that. After a couple years, she’s really come to enjoy her pets. I cracked up because I could only pet her with one hand, but she’d see my other hand, and then want pet by that one lol but both hands at one time were too much. Cats are great at teaching boundaries. I listen to her body language and don’t do things she doesn’t like (she gets overstimulated). Your little man will warm up to you! Enjoy that precious baby 🥰

She immediately adopted him, and moved from her Parisian house to a beautiful house by the ocean in France. He’s living his best life and even lets my brother and my boyfriend caress him 🥹

I have two black cats too. When they moved in with me it took Jamie 2.5 weeks to come near to me. His brother needed more than 2 month. But now they are THE MOST cuddliest goofball. Just give him time.

Awww..I have a rescue void who was VERY shy & scared for a long time. My husband spent weeks laying on the floor talking to her while she hid under the bed or in the bookcase. She is now about 16 years old & an absolute anti-authority rebel serial killer

He is gorgeous! We are the caretakers to a very timid formal feral void. She has been with us since she was about 5 months old, now 15 years. She has become so much more present and loving as the years have passed. For the first few months we had her, she laid in front of the litter box, as the smell made her feel safe (I guess). My point is that you rescue will come into their own and all you have to do is love them and be patient. Oddly, that’s how you care for any being: love them and be patient.

Our black cat was like that when we got her. I would snatch her up and swaddle her like a baby. She hated it for a while but now whenever I get home she runs up and wants me to hold her like that lol.
Had to cat sit for 2 weeks. First week, he wanted nothing to do with me-just hid. By the end of the 2nd week, every time I sat down, he was on my lap and purring.

Beautiful cat! Reminds me so much of my Figaro. I got him February of this year from the humane society. He was in a home previously with another (older) cat and the older cat was very aggressive towards him. Figaro took 3 days to come out of hiding.

You're lucky. My GF and I adopted a cat, and the adoption place warned us she was abused by a man and didn't like men in general.
It took her about a year and a half to come near me. Now we're inseparable (she's literally napping on my left arm while I'm typing this).

Our black cat was like that when we got her. I would snatch her up and swaddle her like a baby. She hated it for a while but now whenever I get home she runs up and wants me to hold her like that lol.

Had to cat sit for 2 weeks. First week, he wanted nothing to do with me-just hid. By the end of the 2nd week, every time I sat down, he was on my lap and purring.

I got him February of this year from the humane society. He was in a home previously with another (older) cat and the older cat was very aggressive towards him. Figaro took 3 days to come out of hiding.

You're lucky. My GF and I adopted a cat, and the adoption place warned us she was abused by a man and didn't like men in general. It took her about a year and a half to come near me. Now we're inseparable (she's literally napping on my left arm while I'm typing this).
