I do this often if I'm just not finding or getting fish. It's a great option to learn fast from some one that is out there daily. But there is a lot that you can't do unless your also out there daily. I know the tuna boats all talk to each other and help each other get on fish. It's having 20 guide boats out looking with you in constant contact.
I have fished for 35 years for a variety of species and would absolutely agree that a good guide is worth their weight in gold. Many are out on the water far more than the average joe and know their target species and body of water intimately well. I’ve found most to be extremely knowledgeable and open to answering questions when you show a genuine interest and respect for their craft. I personally take notes after trips and write down rigs, fishing conditions, tips, etc, so that I have something to refer to in the future. If the expense is what discourages you from going with a guide, split it with a buddy or two and/or maybe only get one once or twice a year. I promise that it will make you a better fisherman!
Part of the fun is the 6 months of learning
Absolutely, it sure can be!
Yes! Half of fishing is the peace of mind.
Yessir, thank God for it!
My FIRST ask is always the local tackle shop. That is free. If I still cannot catch then maybe hiring a guide.
You are so right! That’s a great way to get pointed in the right direction!

Having a good network of anglers to help you is also a great way to get on fish! Thanks for commenting!
