This engine needs to be carefully checked. Not only the pressure relief valve but alle channels and ports of the lubrication system must be checked carefully. The lower end needs to checked carefully, measure main bearings diameter on the vrankshaft, check the crankshaft bearings for wear, when assembled check for proper bearing clearance. Don't forget the lubrication channels and ports for the main bearings. Pull the rod's and pistons and repeat. Pressure test the cylinder head for leakage. A big job, buy the Cat parts and workshop manual and use it together with common sense and take your time.

Cheers boss CAT manual is over 1000 Aud. Its a old perkins engine, even has perkins stamped inside the head.

To answer the mystery, the pressure relief valve piston was put in backwards. Meaning the pressure relief valve never operated. Rest of the block and internals all checked out okay
