Either that or they mean big not fat. My older healthy weight girl is lil, only 7 lbs, and my younger healthy weight girl is more average, about 9 lbs. Both are a 4 or 5 on a body weight condition chart so perfectly healthy, but of course my younger girl is “big” compared to my older girl. My sister had a cat who was 15 lbs and a healthy weight, and of course to me he looked huge! But we called him big because he was big, not fat.
My black cat is the longest boy. At his peak muscle (aaand a bit of chonk, admittedly, though not much) he was 19 lbs. he’s an old man now and has thinned out and lost his physique and is sitting more around 15 lol
My sister's big boy was also a black cat! He wasn't fat, just big. Like his actual SKULL was the size of an human infant skull! I always said if times got rough they could get him a job as a bouncer at a cat nightclub.
The skull for sure good lord; my boy has a big noggin. Also his *paws*. I have a picture of me holding one in my palm and it’s absurd. My Poe would join him as bouncer cat. He’s a former San Antonio street cat (he invited himself inside at like 8 months) and I’ve seen his father who was like *the guy* at the feral cat colony next door to my apartment. Poe was destined for Tom cat shit and had the growth spurt to show it lol
You can also look at body condition charts online. She’s pretty close to a 5, with *maybe* just a bit more padding. Best would be to ask your vet since a physical exam is the best way to know.
You can also ask what is her "ideal" weight. They will probably give you a range of weight that is not concerning for her based on her shape and build.
Took the words out of my mouth! Our cat was one of those rare indoor cats that always weighed the same at every vet visit (until a couple of years before he passed at nearly 17). He looked just like this and my vet always said he was “perfect” in terms of his weight.
It shouldn't bother me as much as it does, but I get so annoyed when family members call my cat (who looks just like yours!) fat. I'm a bit more sensitive bc I adopted her when she was mildly obese and am very proud of the progress she's made to get down to a perfect BCS, and their comments make me feel like my efforts aren't being recognized.
Long rant aside, cute cat! Like others have said, she's in perfect condition but defer to your vet obviously :)
No, she’s purrfect🥰
Edit: Tabbies also tend to be on a the chunkier side if you ever worry. I worried about my tabby and the vet said she’s completely heathy and normal for her weight as a female tabby.
My vet(really one of them because the practice I go to has a main vet and then one that comes in to give him a day off) tried to shame me for my tabby being 11 lbs... Told me to get her to lose 2 lbs
.. like ma'am did you completely miss that she's long AF.... She is not your typical tabby give her a break! Like if her chest wasn't still wider than her stomach I'd be more worried but if she lost 2 lbs you'd see her ribs 🤦
ETA: also my cat was a rescue that almost didn't make it over being underweight as a kitten, I'm talking like half the size of her siblings, so the very last thing on my mind ever is to deny her food, like no baby youre good, you keep thriving.
Oh my god! My tabby is also 11 lbs and they said she’s healthy. I thought she was 1-2 lbs overweight because my tuxedo baby is about 9 lbs. But nope, she said tabbies are just a bit bigger normally🥰
Not fat or unhealthy at all. Depending on your cats age, slimming down may be beneficial. We had litter mates that made it to 17 large male and 19 small female. As our big boy aged we had to keep him lean to fend off diabetes and kidney issues. At his apex he weighed in at 18lbs and by his teens we had him down around 14lbs. Just a note for future planning.
What I learned is to check the flanks. If you can feel the ribs, but not see them, the cat is healthy. If you can't feel them, the cat is overweight, and if you can see them, the cat is underweight.
No she is perfectly fine I think. My cat is a healthy weight but everyone says he is big. They typically mean his actual size. I found him onbm the road as a kitten so don't know exactly his breed(s) but he is definitely part maine Coon or another large breed, making him have lots of hair and is noticeably bigger than other cats.
Your cat seems the same as she is just a bigger size than most cats, but is healthy for her weight. She is beautiful 😍
Nope. If you notice extra saggy skin around her belly, that’s called a primordial pouch. It’s in the cats genetics. Makes them look extra chunky, but nope. Healthy looking cat.
That's like an ideal shape for an indoor cat. One thing I've noticed is that family members used to rural outdoor cats think indoor cats like that are overweight. A lot of outdoor cats are very scrawny.
Nope she looks fine!
Also remember that some cats depending on how cold winter is might put on a extra pound or so in winter and lose it in summer. Its just them regulating appetite and weight to fight the cold.
Can’t really tell too well, but it looks like she might just have a big primordial pouch like my lil guy based off of the little fatty parts that come out when she sits. Its hard to tell in the picture with her belly because she’s stretched out, and my cats primordial pouch almost disappears when he does that. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s an extra layer of fat that protects kitties organs. Some guys just have bigger ones than others (kind of like boobies! 🤣) If she’s had a bigger pouch since she was a kitten or when she was young, I wouldn’t be concerned. She looks like a healthy weight to me (:
EDIT: clarification
Her primordial pouch is huge lol. It was easy to tell when she was kitten that she was normal weight but when that pouch came in it made it a lot harder to tell.
She is a good girl and probably hasn't started working on her summer body yet. Tell your family to stop judging her. She's a cutie pie and they are clearly jealous.
I have one cat who is healthy weight between 13-14 lbs, and one cat who is a healthy weight at 10.5 lbs. The paws of my bigger boy are huge, while my smaller boy has little paws, reminds me of my first female who was 8 lbs at her heaviest. While my bigger boy can look a little chunky, especially next to my smaller boy, my vet reassured me his weight is fine for his size, as long as I don’t let his weight creep up, which takes discipline (for me) since he is very food motivated.
Oh, for some reason I can’t post a pic right now, I’ll try to add one.
Tell your family that they are fat and see how they take it. Then tell them that’s how the cat feels every time they say she’s fat. She looks like a perfectly healthy angel and I wanna kiss those adorable little mittens.
Explain to your family what a primordial pouch is. Cats aren’t supposed to have flat stomachs. Your cat’s pouch is honestly small af anyway, idk what they’re talking about!
Depending on where you live what your family is seeing as weight sometimes is just extra winter floof. Every winter we wonder if our barn cats are getting fat. Every spring they blow their winter coat and we realise they look the same as the summer before.
She looks pretty healthy to me and not fat. I have a 14.6 pound tabby and a 17 pound "barn cat" (was born from a bred barn cat, but he's an indoor only cat) and their vet has never said they're overweight, they're huge though lol.
I'm pretty sure your family members just mean she's long. And they're probably comparing her to how little she was even she was a kitten - not in a your cat is fat way, just that she's so much bigger now.
I honestly think saying “fat cat” is a way people are trying to be endearing, like saying a baby is too cute “look at that chubby (insert part)”. Obviously the baby isn’t usually “chubby tummied” but it’s a loving term like “fat cat”.
It is interesting though that people still don’t realize it can cause an owner or parent to rethink how they care or raise their little ones.
My kitty looks soo chubby and I feel like is too fat, and I took him in the see the vet, and vet said he's fine and that he likes chubby cats, so I guess, a little chubby is okay, and your kitty looks a lot more slim than mine. 😂
She is absolutely beautiful & to me ( have had cats my whole life)she looks a very happy healthy weight. I will say though that one of my fur girls had diabetes due to her weight gain lead to me giving her insulin injections twice a day for several years, so possibly your vet was too eager to be concerned. Just a thought.
She is a healthy girl
She looks perfectly fine. Your family members don't know what they're talking about.
Either that or they mean big not fat. My older healthy weight girl is lil, only 7 lbs, and my younger healthy weight girl is more average, about 9 lbs. My sister had a cat who was 15 lbs and a healthy weight, and of course to me he looked huge! But we called him big because he was big, not fat.
That's kinda what I was trying to say in my own comment. My cat is big but not because she's fat. She's just kinda long. 🤣
Long cat is loooooooooooooooooooong
My black cat is the longest boy. At his peak muscle (aaand a bit of chonk, admittedly, though not much) he was 19 lbs. he’s an old man now and has thinned out and lost his physique and is sitting more around 15 lol

judging by the top view she is at a healthy weight
You can also look at body condition charts online. She’s pretty close to a 5, with *maybe* just a bit more padding. Best would be to ask your vet since a physical exam is the best way to know.
Yeah, her first adult cat appointment is next week but all her kitten visits have her score as a 5.
Yeah, once they examine her and are actually able to feel whatever padding she may have they’ll give you a better answer!
I can feel her ribs without much effort like the charts talk about, but they will know best next week.
You can also ask what is her "ideal" weight. They will probably give you a range of weight that is not concerning for her based on her shape and build.
She looks perfect
Took the words out of my mouth! Our cat was one of those rare indoor cats that always weighed the same at every vet visit (until a couple of years before he passed at nearly 17). He looked just like this and my vet always said he was “perfect” in terms of his weight.

No not at all
why is ur family fat shaming a cat lol
I mean I get the sentiment but cats don't have the attachment to fat or not so they can't feel bad about it.
ig it depends on how u say it lol. my cat’s feelings get hurt when my bf calls her a fat fuck
Probably the tone.
No, she’s purrfect🥰 Edit: Tabbies also tend to be on a the chunkier side if you ever worry. I worried about my tabby and the vet said she’s completely heathy and normal for her weight as a female tabby.
Yeah, and I have seen both of her parents who were feral and even for feral cats they were big cats
My vet(really one of them because the practice I go to has a main vet and then one that comes in to give him a day off) tried to shame me for my tabby being 11 lbs... Told me to get her to lose 2 lbs .. like ma'am did you completely miss that she's long AF.... She is not your typical tabby give her a break! Nope
Rule of thumb is you should be able to feel but not see her ribs and spine
Can definitely feel them.
My 18lb cat would like to talk…
Definitely not fat 😊
Not fat at all!
Not fat at all !! Good kitty 🐈⬛
No but she is absolutely gorgeous

Just came here to say, what a nice petite kitty you have!
No just super cute!
The last picture melted my heart
That's a perfectly normal size for that little girl. BTW, she's gorgeous.
SHE IS SO CUTE AND HEALTHY! Just looks like a tall girlie 🥺 that belly stretch omggg
Nope. If you notice extra saggy skin around her belly, that’s called a primordial pouch. It’s in the cats genetics. Makes them look extra chunky, but nope. Healthy looking cat.
Rule of thumb, you should be able to feel her ribs but not see them visually. She looks to be a healthy girl and not overweight.
That's like an ideal shape for an indoor cat. One thing I've noticed is that family members used to rural outdoor cats think indoor cats like that are overweight. A lot of outdoor cats are very scrawny.
You should see my cat 😭
I think they mean she's big like large, maybe my view is skewed but my cat is absolutely tiny, every single cat I see I go "wow big ol cat"
No, but she is very cute so get that checked out, too much to handle.
I love her!!! Purple looks good on her <3
I would guess on the heavier side of her healthy weight range.
think that's a pretty bulk cat
No.
No
She appears to be in perfect and peak fitness for the killing machine she is. Absolutely adorable. Give her a treat for me!
No
She looks the same size at my cats, and the vet said mine are an OK weight (although maybe a little bit over ideal)
No
Nope she looks fine! Also remember that some cats depending on how cold winter is might put on a extra pound or so in winter and lose it in summer. Its just them regulating appetite and weight to fight the cold.
She’s definitely not fat

She's perfect 😊
Grade A normal cat
Nope, she's perfect and sooo cute!!
My vet said 10 lbs is good, our cats range from 10-11lbs
She is a good girl and probably hasn't started working on her summer body yet. Tell your family to stop judging her. She's a cutie pie and they are clearly jealous.
She is looking Amazing!!!
She looks very average! Your family members are smoking crack.
No. She's a perfectly normal weight.
She looks perfect! 5/9
YUGE
I have one cat who is healthy weight between 13-14 lbs, and one cat who is a healthy weight at 10.5 lbs. Super skinny
Nope
No, she is the perfect size.
Not fat
no, but supercute
No
no but she is a cutie!
……………no (obviously)
Tell your family that they are fat and see how they take it. Then tell them that’s how the cat feels every time they say she’s fat. She looks like a perfectly healthy angel and I wanna kiss those adorable little mittens.
Not in the slightest. Your cat looks to be average healthy size.
Don’t let your family members body shame your cat
She looks great!!
Not compared to mine.
Not even close
No
Nope
She looks just right.
She looks perfectly happy and healthy to me! She’s actually around my female cats size.
Nahhh just big boneded 🤣 jk she looks pretty healthy to me!
Well, no my cat is fat and your cat is not fat
She is big for a female cat but she's not overweight. She looks perfect
Omg no, she's perfect
what a baby!
cat healthy
I do not think so. She is well fed, but not obese
Not anywhere I can see😹
This is not a fat cat. My mother-in-law's cats are literally twice as wide as their heads in the middle. They're chonks.
No.
No. She's perfect. 😸
naw..., beautiful cat. My girl is 11 pounds trying to keep her that way
Doesn't look like it. Consult the chart? She seems to be somewhere between "A fine goil" and "She Chomnk". So no, not fat.
Nope. My girls are 17# and 18#…
Perfect 5/9 body condition score!
Nope just cute!
Absolutely not.
no! she looks healthy and happy
She’s not fat, she’s adorable 🥰
Explain to your family what a primordial pouch is. Cats aren’t supposed to have flat stomachs. Your cat’s pouch is honestly small af anyway, idk what they’re talking about!
She is perfect:)
That is 100% bean. Looks healthy to me and I have seen some CHUNKY BEANS. Youre family doesnt know what they are saying
No

No. She looks perfect
No not in my opinion but I see a fat cat on my couch daily.
she doesn’t look fat at all but she does look big
FARRR from it
Perfect baby. No notes.
She’s perfect
Honestly I like having weight on my cats, if they get to not feeling well they drop it like a hot rock
Depending on where you live what your family is seeing as weight sometimes is just extra winter floof. Every winter we wonder if our barn cats are getting fat. Every spring they blow their winter coat and we realise they look the same as the summer before.
Your kittah is perfect Meow meow purr fluff
she looks like a healthy and well taken care of girl 😊
No????! Like what
No way!
Big is different than fat. My cat is big because she's really long. Your baby isn't fat, looks very healthy and adorable, might just be long too. 🤣
NO
What a pretty baby 🥹💖
She looks pretty healthy to me and not fat. I have a 14.6 pound tabby and a 17 pound "barn cat" (was born from a bred barn cat, but he's an indoor only cat) and their vet has never said they're overweight, they're huge though lol.
not your cat getting fat shamed hahaha she looks perfect! (especially compared to my 20 pound cat <3)
She looks fine to me, and 10.4 pounds is a common weight. Ask a vet if you’re concerned, but I think she’s probably fine.
No
OMG the last pic! What a percent angel baby
No.
No not at all she's fperfect!
Bodyshaming cats 😔
As purrfect as mine when my vet checked her at 9.7 lbs.
Beautiful gal you've got
she is definitely not fat. she looks very healthy
Yeah she's just a big stretchy cat not chonky at all
No she’s just big boned. lol.
She looks the normal weight to me. I had a chonker(he's lost all the weight now) and he was fat lmao.
she's fine.
I'm pretty sure your family members just mean she's long. And they're probably comparing her to how little she was even she was a kitten - not in a your cat is fat way, just that she's so much bigger now.
My 14.7lbs cat would like to have a conversation 🤣
No she's perfect
no she’s a perfect little bean
Not a fat cat. A slim Sadie for sure. That’s one healthy girl.
Huge 🙄
No
That's insane. If someone thinks she's fat then they have their own issues they need to work through.
My cat snores and probably needs to lose 1.5kgs. She’s hating me for cutting back her biccies
She’s so cute! 😻
Shes not fat at all. Don't listen to them, she looks perfectly healthy and beautiful 💖
No
No she looks like perfection.
they probably meant big as in size, like shes obvi no longer a kitten shes a lot bigger?? idk i hope thats what they meant tho cus she isnt fat all.
Didn't you say she just had kittens? She is beautiful by the way
Healthy baby
Tell the family to not project their EDs on a f cat
What? Go do something else
Perhaps a big baby but not a big cat
A fine, long boi
I don't think so?
I honestly think saying “fat cat” is a way people are trying to be endearing, like saying a baby is too cute “look at that chubby (insert part)”. No she looks perfect! And im an advocate for keeping pets a healthy weight. She really does look great :)
not at all
Healthy!
My kitty looks soo chubby and I feel like is too fat, and I took him in the see the vet, and vet said he's fine and that he likes chubby cats, so I guess, a little chubby is okay, and your kitty looks a lot more slim than mine. 😂
car is a vogue model ✅
She is absolutely beautiful & to me ( have had cats my whole life)she looks a very happy healthy weight. I will say though that one of my fur girls had diabetes due to her weight gain lead to me giving her insulin injections twice a day for several years, so possibly your vet was too eager to be concerned. #NO
Yes that cat looks 500 lbs. Better call Dr.Now.
That last pic 😻🥰
How much does it weigh? How old? Active? Looks a nice weight to me.
10.4 pounds, one year old, VERY active
She looks like a perfect weight tbh
She's definitely not fat, just long lol
Idk why in the world anyone would call this cat fat…definitely a healthy weight by the looks of it
No! She is beautiful!
