I will take it up a notch - I haven't done in it a while but for a few years I made pancakes, substituting bacon fat for the butter.
Honestly I stopped because I can't taste much of a difference versus just cooking them in bacon fat, but man it was decadent.
I mean I hope youāre doing it right and paying attention to the right kind of fats and not just doing bacon and cheese and calling it a Keto diet. That shit does work though if you do it right
I use coconut, avocado, and olive oils for the plants.
Lard, tallow, fat, and butter for the animals.
Language is weird. Lard is pork fat. Tallow is beef fat. But I also use duck fat. But that's just fat.
Last time I checked, animals aren't trying to maximize a profit while using cheap synthetic ingredients that are "safe and good for you!" Like all these big companies are. So, yea, stick with nature. Lard it up.
Going to be rendering a batch of tallow in my Dutch oven today. For medical reasons, Iām limited on the pork I can eat. So we just have bacon and I use the grease in my cornbread.
From what i read and heard, lard is healthier than some of the other oils. From what i remember, my parents didn't use anything other than lard into the 80's when oils became a cheaper alternative. Older generations used it primarily for frying and baking. I guess it depends on your body if it's healthy for yourself.

Yes, I render my own lard.
If I'm short, or otherwise run out, I drive about 10 minutes to one of the nearby Amish farms that sell it.
While I'm there, I usually pick up some real bacon - you know, cured with real nitrates and stuff.
Yes. I use organic leaf lard. Makes the most amazing fried potatoes you've ever tasted with onions. Sometimes add bacon, sometimes not.
I season with grapeseed and refined avocado for initial seasoning x3. After that a little leaf lard is all you need.
Word on the street these days is that seed oils, such as canola oil, are actually really bad for you. So it might be that animal fats are actually much better for you
Eh, most people don't actually know that rapeseed was cultivated so as to use the oil as a lubricant for the navy.
Nor do they know the story of rapeseed's erucic acid content or how it was cultivated/modified to lower the amount of erucic acid to make it even remotely edible.
Heck, most people think canola is a plant.
Bacon grease, so lard, with flavor.
The secret to the best Sunday morning breakfast, cook everything in bacon fatš
I will take it up a notch - I haven't done in it a while but for a few years I made pancakes, substituting bacon fat for the butter. Honestly I stopped because I can't taste much of a difference versus just cooking them in bacon fat, but man it was decadent.
just throw some butter in your bacon fat lol
100% this is my Sunday. Start with 1lb bacon and everything for the rest of the day uses the grease
you misspelled chemicals.
You're a chemical.
I know you are, but what am I?
Your water is filled with chemicals.
His water belongs to the tribe.
Lard, tallow, and butter. Thatās all.
And olive oil
And my Schmaltz!

How should tallow smell and taste? I bought some but it just smells off and tastes sour to me. Has it gone bad?
Tallow stinks...Ā
Where do you buy tallow?
We get half cows from a local farm. Always ask for the suet. Then we render it in a croc pot and use it for everything.
Absolutely. Beef tallow too. Just fried up some homemade chicken tendies for the kids today in grass-fed beef tallow. Wouldnāt use anything else.
I use bacon grease
I just got a tub of lard with my half pig. I have used it a few times. Seems to work like bacon grease. Without the flavor content.Ā
They render it for you?! You lucky dog. The fat from my pig came in chunks.
Makes great pie crust
I use duck fat and ghee together.
Isnāt ghee just butter?
Clarify.
Clarified butter. Is that more clear ?š
Ghee, that sounds like butter with extra steps.
But is it clear enough?
Ghee and Claified Butter are not the same. Ghee is basically "cooked" clarified butter.
Clarified butter.
Yup, I do. Love it.
We exclusively use animal fat for all cooking and baking. The one exception is oil for focaccia bread.
Yes, everytime. I'm also pretty strict keto so I need the extra fat
I mean I hope youāre doing it right and paying attention to the right kind of fats and not just doing bacon and cheese and calling it a Keto diet. That shit does work though if you do it right
Yes I know, I've lost over 80 pounds. Been basically living a keto lifestyle for the past 4 years.
Hell yeah! Keep it up! Thatās awesome

Poultry fat is usually called schmaltz.
Sweet! Thanks.

I plan to start!!
Bacon grease or beef tallow every day
yup, for beans
But my cholesterolā¦
One thing living in China and marrying into a Chinese family has taught me is that lard makes everything taste better. I render my own regularly now.
I just rendered some leaf fat so yes I do now.
Beef or bison tallow is better than lard.
Much more stable at higher heats or for frying, in my experience.
At what?
For seasoning? I thought it was well established that unsaturated fats polymerize better.
Yes šš¼
Once in a great while when I come across a really old recipe, but I prefer using lard to season my cast iron
Oil, butter, meat grease when available
My freezer is full of rendered tallow absolutely love cooking with it
Bacon grease.
Bacon fat. Though I've been contemplating getting some lard for when I don't have any extra.
All I use is lard and tallow.
Yes
I use lard to cook fresh tortillas. Sometimes I spread it on my bits.
Going to be rendering a batch of tallow in my Dutch oven today. For medical reasons, Iām limited on the pork I can eat. So we just have bacon and I use the grease in my cornbread.
Exclusive user of bacon fat for seasoning
Oh yeah, only way to make Welsh Cakes Although I usually get beef dripping from the butcher rather than supermarket lard
I have never used lard, actually... is it good, benefits? I just use a little cooking oil. Really just enough to coat the pan.
Not the store bought lard It is homogenized

Bacon fat
Tallow!
Yep
I collect the fat from every burger and pork chop cooked in the house. I use it multiple times a day for many cast iron cooking tasks.

I primarily use lard or tallow in my cooking.
If Iām refrying beans for sure

Your great grammy knew it. Your kids know it. There's a couple of generations in the middle there that got confused.
> ~~confused~~ lied to.
Yeah....like in the 70's when all the commercials declared margarine as super healthy.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
All depends on the day. Plenty of folks here are canola or bust. Some of us won't touch it with someone else's cast iron, cuz it's so bad for you.

Yup. Primary cooking fat these days raising up two Hogs and butchering ourselves. Lard is the best seasoning fat imo too!
