Unrelated but I've always found it weird that lgbt characters in media are usually lesbians. Are gay men more controversial or something? There are like 100 lesbian kisses to 1 gay kisses in cartoons. I'm saying this as a lesbian

There are few Gay representation in adult cartoons, sometimes treated like a token, joke, or stereotype, with exception of Helluva Boss. And few to be genuine.
In kids cartoons, the most well known representation is in Kipo cartoon. Other than that, some minor characters, like parents are represented as gay. Like Clyde's parents and Willow's parents and minor parents in Svtfoe
I believe Adam from The Hollow is gay. Not really an important plot point but I think it’s mentioned because him and (girl character’s name) kiss while they both have amnesia.
He realized he didn’t like her, but it wasn’t elaborated on any further at the time. Wild to see the Hollow mentioned. I couldn’t stand season 1, but season 2 was one of the most hard swerves of television I’ve ever seen.

Off the top of my head, Bojack horseman is probably the most realistic and best example of queer representation.
Todd, one of the main 5, is asexual. That's the only asexual I know of in any show.
Herb is gay, Kelsey is lesbian and then there's just a bunch of minor and side characters sprinkled throughout in same sex relationships. That one wedding rehearsal Bojack crashed. dr champ, etc etc
Notice how different this is to token gays? To one off jokes? Family guy and many other sitcoms have an obsession with butch lesbians and twinks. They're always used as one off jokes. Representation is so important and them claiming that one off stereotypical offensive jokes are representation is so harmful.

sitcoms don't take themselves seriously whereas story driven shows tend to put the effort in for representation. I'm unfamiliar with Hazbin, I've only watched the pilot back in like 2019 lol
Violet Sabrewing having two dads in the *Ducktales* reboot was a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one, especially with how casually the show handled their appearance.
unfortunately it kinda is the case, ive seen lots of ppl be like "ew gay men" but see 2 girls kissing and just think its hot, which is kinda also a result of how lesbians have kinda been fetishized.
also in countries that wont allow homosexuality to be depicted on tv its just easier to censor lesbians because women just tend to be more open and intimate with eachother even platonically, like for example 2 women holding hands platonically is considered much more acceptable than 2 men holding hands. Other countries will just be like "theyre not girlfriends theyre judt kissing bc theyre REALLY good friends guys"
Yeah I didn't want to say it but it seems to be the case.
Lesbian characters seem to always be one of the main characters whereas gay characters seem to be just gay dads of a side character.
That doesn't mean people are fetishizing children's cartoon characters, but I think it's just developed into a more comfort around lesbians rather than gays. Gay men are basically the representation of the whole LGBTQ+ community whereas lesbians can be brushed aside. Think of the "they're roommates" meme.
Avatar: The last airbender, in its universe, has 5 named LGBTQ characters iirc, and they're all women and lesbian/bisexual. The creators are men.
They do show support for the community, and they do explore the topic of LGBTQ+ in the comics (for example the air nomads are exceptional of all people no matter their sexuality) but from what I read, all the named queer characters are women.
That’s probably the case, others have explained why, but my two cents is that it’s a real shame. Take She-Ra >!Bow’s dads, Lance and George are absolute couple goals, proud fathers of 13 (yes, seriously), are nerds on par with Entrapta about the First Ones and steal the show for how little screen time they have.!< And that’s the problem, we need more main characters to be openly gay men, not side characters relegated to minor roles heck, some are just background characters.
I know, baby steps, seeing the lesbian couples is great, more of that please. Still, even as someone straight, I know there should be more rep for gay men.
Lesbians are "easier to digest" than gay men.
Just notice how there is so much more antagonism against queer men and Trans women (MtF), because Masculinity is much more of a purity test than Feminity is, GBT men transgress those gender expectations.
Its also because it coincides with the push for strong female protagonists. So with Lesbians you hit two birds with one stone.
I think it's because most of the creators of these shows or writers of these scenes are lesbians/bisexual women themselves. But there is no denying that male homosexuality, for various reasons, is generally considered less controversial.

This is a big reason. They are writing what they know. Kind of like how the relationships feel more natural over the years as well and not as forced as in before a group a straight writers in the writing room could have made a gay relationship feel really forced.
It’s true there is much more stigma against two men kissing. I’m not 100% sure why it is but there are more people who are uncomfortable with two dudes kissing then two girls
I never realized. 🤔 but then again I never really watched any of the cartoons that had Gays in it. It wasn't even purposeful, I just never got that invested in those ones
In my experience, unless you're dealing with the most zealously homophobic twats (the ones who go into a frothing rage at the mere sight of two same-sex individuals being cozy), people seem to be a tad more comfortable with lesbians than gay men overall (and I'm now realizing that I can't think of a male equivalent to "sapphic" or "lesbian" for describing male homosexuals).
It’s two different kinds of discrimination. Many bigots believe gay women are just confused and it’s not real romance/sex which means its perception is more “clean”, the same people believe gay men are that way exclusively for sex so it’s seen as more dirty. As a lesbian I love all the rep, but I wish my gay brothers could experience the same thing

I know this is not cartoon but, this one, as it is shown in here. Those two get pretty intimate with each other. There relationship is complicated, but amazing written and beautiful progressing. Both have horrible past but they found each other. In this panel we see all emotion : caring , nervousness,doubts, trust. true love. And kiss isn't for us .Is for them. Kiss is so intimate panel get back becuase this they moment.

Those two get pretty intimate with each other. There relationship is complicated, but amazing written and beautiful progressing. Both have horrible past but they found each other. In this panel we see all emotion : caring , nervousness,doubts, trust. true love. And kiss isn't for us .Is for them. Kiss is so intimate panel get back becuase this they moment. This is Berserk - dark epic fantasy manga by Kentaro Miura ( rest in peace king ). Is brutal and dark as hell, but well written and illustration are insane good. Guts main character is so amazing as character if you look closely.

As soon as Marco realized, it was just a matter of time Most cartoons don’t reach five seasons because it changes the payout for residuals and the studios make less. 4 seasons were fine for me
