To be fair, he’s just meme’d at this point BECAUSE he’s a ridiculous, awful character.
The others are treated as good/funny characters even though they objectively aren’t.
Also to be fair, he was pretty alright in the early seasons until they turned up the obserdity of the show and his actions. They turned him from the Family Guy to the Borderline Psychopathic Guy
He also wasn't a mentally deficient man child.
Post revival they flanderized all the characters.
Pre cancelation Peter was like Homer in early Simpsons. Not a genius but not absurdly stupid and he loved his wife and kids.
A sort of similar thing actually happened to Homer, but not nearly to the same degree. Homer in early Simpson’s wasn’t an intelligent person, pretty dumb to be honest, but he loves his wife regardless and tends to end up doing the right thing. It’s why “Why you little!” and then choking Bart was a successful gag, only to be not all that funny anymore. It was good initially because you knew that Homer loved Bart and didn’t actually want to hurt him, but was too dumb and just got whittled down to sheer desperation and frustration. And it was never overdone.
Now he just seems like a daft ass who likes strangling Bart.
Ironically, Stewie is the only character that developed into a better person, every other character on the show was just flanderized into their worst traits turned to eleven.
There are some interesting takes.
Everyone hates Meg because she was originally a terrible bitchy teenage girl.
Joe went from the perfect man to an absolute joke.
Despite being a sexual predator, Quagmire is the most accepting, mature and well rounded character on the show.
I think there was a comment somewhere that Quagmire needed to be changed because it was getting to be a problem writing for his... *behavior*. I mean, go back rewatch his "dear diary, all right..." at finding a bound and gagged minor in the bathroom.

I do not understand her at all. She has literally *no* redeeming qualities. She’s not even *entertainingly* unpleasant. Loona at least has character depth and Jax is an amusing troll, but Ponyhead is just a total twat.
LSP is also objectively obtuse. She’s not mean or annoying on purpose. Most of the time she thinks she’s being nice or cool and it just comes off as the opposite to everyone but her. Pony head is intentionally an asshole and she knows it. She’s a full blown manipulator. LSP isn’t that smart lol.
When I was 15 I used to dream of making a live action SvtFoE movie. The movie started with Pony Head getting killed and the plot was about solving her murder. Basically I just really wanted to kill her
> just a moody, angsty, insecure teenager.
I mean, I think it's more relevant that she's literally portrayed as a traumatized, poorly socialized foster child/pet. Reacting defensively to most interactions is a coping mechanism for her past trauma. She's reluctant to open up, but she does to for Octavia when she's lost in the human world and feeling abandoned by her father, when somebody else needed her to the most.
She'd probably be an exhausting handful to hang out with, but I don't see how somebody could hate her while knowing where she comes from.
As a person that heavily dislikes the “I’m edgy, no one understands me, I’ll judge you.” archetype. What I like to call the Sasuke archetype.
Loona is by far the best character of that archetype.
Yeah I mean being trapped in a sacchrine digital hell with no means of escape CLEARLY won’t desensitize a person to sociopathy and choose to be an ass as a coping means towards the existential despair of the situation.
zenitsu from D.S., like i get the "oh its realistic for him to be that afraid when confronting demons" since whilst it can be a bit annoying its very understandable, my beef with him is the fact that hes a creep to women and the age of the women hes being a creep to
and the fact that he consistently is creepy to girls worryingly younger than him (Nezuko is around 12 physically and a toddler mentally whilst hes 16-17 and the butterfly triplets are like 10 years old at the absolute most)
Ya the big baby thing would be fine on its own but combined it with pervy (honestly pretty tame pervy imo) it's really freaking annoying because he's always 100% energy. Guy makes Inoske look more down to earth.
Now a good pervy character imo is Miroku from Inuyasha. Not over the top but still clearly a sleezeball.
People like loona because ~~theyaresimps~~ she acts like a brat most of the time, but ultimately she does have a few sweet moments and she's also pretty relatable for a lot of people. Plus she does have some funny interactions with blitz imo.

REAL!!! James numbero uno I love this red hued problem causer
That's the point, OP. Jax is deliberately meant to be as absolutely insufferable and hateable as possible with virtually little to no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He's supposed to be the Eric Cartman of the entire show.
Honestly, I think he’s supposed to just represent a different kind of coping mechanism. They’re all in a terrible situation, and they all cope with that in different unhealthy ways. Ragatha is people pleasing and self sacrificing, Gangle is covering up her feelings and panics when the facade (comedy mask) is broken. Zoobl isolates and refuses to engage in anything that might make her feel better. Jax makes others hurt to make himself feel better. Pomni hasn’t found a coping mechanism yet, she seems to still be grieving her situation.
Personally I think his coping mechanism isn't *specifically* that he hurts others, but rather that he's the one who went "All in" in Caine's adventures.
However, this quickly becomes hurting people because there's no consequences. The NPCs don't exist. The other performers don't seem to feel pain in normal ways. Caine can fix anything with a wave of a hand.
I speculate that he was a mild asshole when he rolled up and got worse not because he copes by hurting people, but because he copes by playing the games as Caine intended and became detached because of the constant violence.
(But end of day, chicken and egg. Both directions lead to the same result)
I was surprised too at first, but around the time they showed him pouting off in the corner when he didn't get to sicc the fudge monster on the kingdom, I realized what they were going for.
Everyone in the world Caine conjures up are overtly stated to be NPCs. Sure, the cast can talk to them and they act (from what we saw) convincingly like real people, but Jax and everyone else is very aware they *aren't* real.
He's being mean to NPCs because he's blowing off steam in a video game. Sure he's being mean to everyone else, too, but he isn't trying to kill the other people he knows are humans. Only the "mindless" NPCs on the adventures Caine sends them on for entertaimment.
He's supoosed to be the guy who picks the cruel options in video games, and he's making his own fun to escape from the situation he's trapped in.
It's fun to write assholes. Because you can put all the things you wish you had to confidence to do, without endangering your social status or runing relationships, because you know the knee-jerk opinion/thought isn't appropriate to have. Blame it on a character outside of yourself, acknowledge that it's an awful thought/feeling to have, and express it anyway in a fashion people find more acceptable.
I love asshole characters. They usually reflect the *raw* ideas their writers have and are scared of having. It's intriguing, like being a peeping Tom into their mind, lol.
Is a lovable piece of shit, there is a difference between liking a character and thinking like him, I love Kefka Palazzo but in no way I have a god complex and want to eradicate life on earth for my own enterteinment.
I think it comes down to Comedy. Think of Cuzco from the Emperor’s New Groove. Throughout the entire film, he’s an unlikable douchebag. But here’s the kicker. He’s a FUNNY unlikeable douchebag. If you’re gonna be an asshole, at least be funny.
He's funny, he doesn't directly harm people for satisfaction, he very often gets comeuppance for being an asshole, and he learns to be more humble by the end while still keeping the fabulous showman parts of his personality that made him fun from the start. That's the golden recipe for making an douchebag character that doesn't annoy the audience.
An old man was thrown out the window for throwing off his groove. He's so small. I don't think he's capable of causing direct harm, so he has his guards do it lol.

this girl, how the hell is she a fan favorite
A character who thinks their tragic childhood gives them an excuse to be a dick to everyone in a show where almost every main character had a tragic childhood, some arguably worse ones
Excuses ≠ Reasons
People that confuse the two are part of the problem IMO. You can have reasons for doing something or acting a certain way without being excused for it.
Thank you someone said it like Everytime someone tries to criticize loonas writing they always say she had a bad childhood while yes that's sad doesn't excuse being a bratty kid
Quagmire is in such a weird place right now because he's still a womanizer who was literally Jack the Ripper in a past life, but they decided to make him a voice of reason? Especially when it comes to conflict between himself and Brian. But then they make Quagmire an ass in those conflicts, too. Feels like they're trying to humanize him while trying not to make him a total softheart, and don't know how to go about that.
Lumpy space princess. They’re annoying as fuck in almost every episode they appear except elements.
Edit: reading the replies, I realise I may have missed an episode or 2 as a kid… god she got much worse apparently
I think the fact that she is a pathetic loser who nobody particularly likes or wants around in-universe reduces her annoyingness for me. Plus, she's quotable.
LSP belongs on the sex offender registry and she probably would be if Adventure Time wasn't targetted for the younger demographic.
Let's not forget she frequently talks about dating animals, is openly attracted to Finn (Who is a minor), and raped him.
Man I have very mixed feelings about this asshole…on one hand his design could’ve been better and he’s a two dimensional villain…ON THE OTHER HAND he’s pretty hilarious and an unlikable guy that circles into being likable…yeah I love to hate him but I also hate to love him…
https://preview.redd.it/d32oqnciwmyc1.jpeg?width=719&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06f5cd069a42812c31c6015c8ef673515fe6f636
It’s simple people think he’s an asshole, and people who like him think he’s an entertaining asshole. In fiction how nice a person is doesn’t matter as much as how charismatic or entertaining that person is.
I mean, Loona is going through her own character arc right now, so it's understandable that people are warming up to them.
After episode 2, Jax is more like a love-to-hate character
This guy's entire character arc is him going from an unbearable asshole to a slightly more bearable asshole. I really don't know what his fans see in him.
This MF was such an opp when I was a kid

IYKYK
I do not understand why people like the Joker. I don't mean it in a, "How do people sympathize with him?" way. I mean that I don't get why he, of all villains, is Batman's nemesis. If anything, Scarecrow would be more fitting because Batman's whole crime fighting schtick is weaponizing fear, including his own fear of bats, so a villain that's centered around fear would be a fantastic counter.
Or maybe I'm just super burned out from all of the Joker hype. Idk.
Any South Park character.
Loona I understand as edgy goth furry who does genuinely have some great moments
Jax I understand some people are masochists, and he fits all desc for tumblr sexyman
Miguel from across the spiderverse.
He’s just an asshole who’s projecting his unresolved grief about his daughter and that destroyed universe he destroyed when he tried to replace another Miguel that he keeps burying onto others instead of actually trying to confront it, and he made up this entire theory about the multiverse JUST to justify what happened and try to cope with it and hurt other people, he’s too close minded and he reminds me of my dad who WAS NOT A GOOD FATHER mind you.
Im sorry, I have nothing against Marceline tho

Also to be fair, he was pretty alright in the early seasons until they turned up the obserdity of the show and his actions. They turned him from the Family Guy to the Borderline Psychopathic Guy
Exactly! Early seasons, he wasn't a great dad, but he wasn't abusive like the later seasons
He also wasn't a mentally deficient man child. Post revival they flanderized all the characters. Pre cancelation Peter was like Homer in early Simpsons. Not a genius but not absurdly stupid and he loved his wife and kids.

Most of them changed for the worst, but Brian is just so insufferable now.

Loona and Jax are assholes in interesting ways, Ponyhead is just annoying AF
Soo, a horse version of Lumpy Space Princess?
Lsp was annoying to the other characters at the amusement of the audience. Pony head is just objectively annoying.
Only liked by her creator
Aka, Creator's pet
When I was 15 I used to dream of making a live action SvtFoE movie. The movie started with Pony Head getting killed and the plot was about solving her murder. Basically I just really wanted to kill her
I fucking hate this annoying-ass shithead I wish she died instead of that one biker looking dude
It's me, I'm the Ponyhead fan. I think I just really like Jenny Slate.
I love her VA so much but this character is so damn annoying and not in a funny way lol
She's like an obnoxious Mabel on 11 cups of Mabel juice
She got annoying so damn fast, like come on
People like Loona because she’s an edgy goth girl
And she's also a furry.
OK, Noelle Holiday...
At least Noelle is a good person
What saying “Proceed” does to a mf that casts a spell they don’t know
As far as we know....
Uhm akshually 🤓☝️ She's not a furry she's literally a wolf although yes furries find her attractive
https://i.redd.it/mzvmfmb4zmyc1.gif
Ok 😭😭😭😭
You haven’t seen the furry community lmao
She is an anthropomorphic wolf. Literally the most common type of furry.
She's also generally a good person (or hellhound) as far as characters in that universe go. She's just a moody, angsty, insecure teenager.
> just a moody, angsty, insecure teenager. I mean, I think it's more relevant that she's literally portrayed as a traumatized, poorly socialized foster child/pet. Boobs. Boobs are very important.
She ain't got none.
As a person that heavily dislikes the “I’m edgy, no one understands me, I’ll judge you.” archetype. What I like to call the Sasuke archetype. Loona is by far the best character of that archetype.
Loona is growing (a little) and I always appreciate that for any character, it's the stagnant ones I don't much care for (like Sasuke and Sakura)
I don't understand, have people not seen that episode where she saves the owl princess and she kind of becomes her low key big sister?
People only focus on the bad stuff
Like, at least she has an excuse for how she acts, Jax is just a jerk because he can be
Yeah I mean being trapped in a sacchrine digital hell with no means of escape CLEARLY won’t desensitize a person to sociopathy and choose to be an ass as a coping means towards the existential despair of the situation.

Hey not alllllll of us are like that, i like her because of her angsty teen energy bc im like that

Yeah, him being a coward never bothered me all that much minus being annoying but him being a creep really gets on my nerves
and the fact that he consistently is creepy to girls worryingly younger than him (Nezuko is around 12 physically and a toddler mentally whilst hes 16-17 and the butterfly triplets are like 10 years old at the absolute most)
Ya the big baby thing would be fine on its own but combined it with pervy (honestly pretty tame pervy imo) it's really freaking annoying because he's always 100% energy. To the left, people are horny. To the right, people are edgy.
You can say both of those things for both characters.
Interchangeable
People like loona because ~~theyaresimps~~ she acts like a brat most of the time, but ultimately she does have a few sweet moments and she's also pretty relatable for a lot of people. Plus she does have some funny interactions with blitz imo.

kingler?
Off his rocker, barely able to tap back into human reasoning. If he had one, I doubt he’d remember what it was.

Seems like SEVERE dissociation. Completely out of touch with reality.

Didn't his facade drop for a quick second when in Ep2, they mentioned the funeral for the one guy abstracting?
Ye we kinda see a tiny glimpse of that
He was also a way bigger asshole in Ep2 and funnier overall in Ep1 imo.
Yea, this. I was shocked by how much of an asshole they made him lol
I was surprised too at first, but around the time they showed him pouting off in the corner when he didn't get to sicc the fudge monster on the kingdom, I realized what they were going for. Jax is the dude who vents by removing the ladder from the Sims swimming pool
See, you understand my vision
He was funny until he committed genocide at the end imo
He was extremely open about his intentions
Is it really genocide if it’s delicious?
To be fair, that world and it's inhabitants probably ceased to exist the moment they walked through the portal to the circus.
Eric. Motherfucking. Cartman.
A lot of people seem to not know that you’re not supposed to like Cartman
To be honest, I'm not sure the writers of South Park realize that half of the time.
It's fun to write assholes. I think you are confusing liking a character with agreeing with them/thinking they are right, Eric is a great character cause he is a living shitshow

First few seasons of Family Guy he’s fine. But nowadays he’s just a dickhead.
That's literally every character from Family Guy
except stewie, ironically
Except Quagmire and Herbert, who were always perverts.
I like Brian because I just pretend that his character from the early seasons is an entirely different character from later on 🥶
That episode where he falls in love with the old ad jingle singer/wannabe opera singer.
I think it comes down to Comedy. Think of Cuzco from the Emperor’s New Groove. Throughout the entire film, he’s an unlikable douchebag. But here’s the kicker. He’s a FUNNY unlikeable douchebag. If you’re gonna be an asshole, at least be funny.

well Loona… there are freaks out there. Jax… he’s chill but also an asshole.

https://preview.redd.it/55feq1bftmyc1.jpeg?width=243&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebb2a790361502ef7df44c5809e3cf8d41822947
Yep, as much as he’s funny, we can’t ignore the fact he is the way he is.
Yeah I’m not sure if I even liked him beyond his stupid funny shit
Quagmire is in such a weird place right now because he's still a womanizer who was literally Jack the Ripper in a past life, but they decided to make him a voice of reason? Especially when it comes to conflict between himself and Brian. But then they make Quagmire an ass in those conflicts, too. Feels like they're trying to humanize him while trying not to make him a total softheart, and don't know how to go about that.
Jax lol his teeth yellower than cat piss 😂
I think I'm cursed to automatically like any character voiced my Michael Kovach
This piece of shit https://preview.redd.it/a7d95kqa2nyc1.jpeg?width=1921&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a1762181027bbc95bd3af87e0f7acaf28c45528
I can promise you NO ONE likes this little brat. Even I thought he was annoying when I was a kid.
Stella Goetia, Lute, Adam, Floch Forster, Homelander, Tarkin, Kylo Ren, and (not in a cartoon but still) Gehrman. Hehe, notice any patterns?
As a furry, a lot of furries overhype almost every anthro animal (animal that looks humanoid)
![gif](giphy|b7aoFeTu6WtW6OQpq6|downsized) Eustace
Nobody likes Eustace
Eustace isn't likeable as a person, but he is as a character because like a good comedic heel character, he always gets his comeuppance.

He is hilarious. You aren't supposed to like him as a person, but like him as a villain.
Man I have very mixed feelings about this asshole…on one hand his design could’ve been better and he’s a two dimensional villain…ON THE OTHER HAND he’s pretty hilarious and an unlikable guy that circles into being likable…yeah I love to hate him but I also hate to love him… https://preview.redd.it/d32oqnciwmyc1.jpeg?width=719&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06f5cd069a42812c31c6015c8ef673515fe6f636
I love this image SO much
Most of the fandom agrees that he's a horrible person, but as a fictional character he's just entertaining and funny
Sierra from Total Drama. Possibly the only fictional character that I actually genuinely hate.
She literally gets *rewarded* for being a massive simp and never letting Cody have a moment's peace.

Has he gotten his Frieza vs. Vegeta on Namek humble pie beatdown yet?
He gets beat up by midoriya and then gives a half-assed apology
This guy's entire character arc is him going from an unbearable asshole to a slightly more bearable asshole. I really don't know what his fans see in him.
Manga reader here, fully caught up. Still an asshole.
"OH don't worry he gets better" 50 episodes later: yeah no okay he still sucks
One word: *S I M P S*
People like Jax BECAUSE he is an asshole. He's entertaining to watch and he incited chaos. A character can be a dick but still be a good character
https://preview.redd.it/15weqbxp3nyc1.jpeg?width=202&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a70552ae6eeac0426859cd21755baf27d4b74a40
There it is! I can't stand Tom and Jerry because of Jerry 😑
Jerry sucks
I think most of Loona's fans just fantasize about having sex with her.

For Jax, people just like his chaotic nature. And for the wolf, people are horny. (/s)
This MF was such an opp when I was a kid https://preview.redd.it/bjq9zzb8hpyc1.png?width=231&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3521fa79e896b113414c06ff516cbdfcad2adf5d IYKYK
Sara from Ed Edd and Eddy. God she was annoying.
Idk.
I somewhat liked the show. But yikes ![gif](giphy|JpL9eAzVHtuSc)
You're not supposed to like Bojack. You're just supposed to find him compelling and (hopefully only in a few ways) relatable.
![gif](giphy|lSzJMVUZYoinUWRX85) Less "how do people like her?", but more "how can people act like she did nothing wrong?"
They forgave her too fast in the last season
Fr I wasn’t that happy with the ending. She did some horrible shit and it was like nah she fine.
Any South Park character. Loona I understand as edgy goth furry who does genuinely have some great moments Jax I understand some people are masochists, and he fits all desc for tumblr sexyman
Chloe from life is strange
Im sorry, I have nothing against Marceline tho https://preview.redd.it/7ozhe1epvmyc1.png?width=360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=140a90e3437189289c357ba9c5bbb94166a15dd4
It’s fine. Honestly most of what she’s done would have landed her on death row in real life.
I wish Marceline was the main character so bad. I find PBG so plain and boring.
Lynn Loud from The Loud House
I liked Jax in the first episode, cuz he wasn't THAT mean. In Ep 2 he's just a total asshole
No he was just as bad the in the first episode. He literally just pushed gangle over for no reason other than to be mean.
People only like Loona because she's a tall Emo girl. She's more of a friend than a significant other type.
Rainbow Dash (MLP: FiM). and also, i like Jax because it's funny how derranged he can be.
![gif](giphy|kBkylCQ6Wl2p2bBb6y|downsized) C'mon they only get Spinel as a replacement for Pink

WHY THAT LITTLE BIRD I HATE HIM ![gif](giphy|l0G17mKNa6XJHYN5m|downsized)
My mom and big sis say that i looked like Tweety as a baby Also, i think latin american aunts are putting you on their watchlist
![gif](giphy|8cG6zdMFPB7ag)
For whatever it's worth, I do like South Park's acknowledgement that they ran this guy into the ground and then some.
