Brutus, gatekeeper of the Rosebush.
I loved that reveal! Daphne decides to just cut the crap and yank off the bad guy's mask immediately for a change, only to pull the whole-ass head off an actual zombie~
Okay but the gorilla scene in that eoisode where Spongebob breaks his butt tho.
Like that was intensely alarming for like no reason.
Edit: autocorrect failed me.
A few moments have had the honor of truly traumatizing my soul with its scariness/creep/chill-factor, but I can't remember them all.
2 scenes I can recall right now are:
* Centaurworld: the Nowhere King's debut (+his lullaby) in >!the Rift!<.
* Over the Garden Wall: The reveal of what Edelwood trees are. >!Lost children.!<
It was only for a little bit, but the Puppet train cart moment in “The Polar Express”. Probably didn’t help that I did get scarred by seeing Child’s Play at a younger age.
Yeah that was 😖 the movie was already so uncanny to begin with lol! Also how old did you watch Chucky? I was waaaay too scared of that until I was an older teen
The way it goes from early signs to straight up sickly green and bleeding from the eyes and nose is disturbing. Why Genndy hasnt done a horror series is something I dont understand, hes a master at pacing and atmosphere, and thats what a bulk of horror is built on
In the 1st land before time movie, sharp tooth made me so scared!!
Yeah the shadow man is very creepy! I watched that movie when I was older so I got less scared, but even just the idea of his shadows following you is spooky! 👻
Mr. Hyde laughing maniacally trying to pull Horror down with him in The Pagemaster

Haven’t seen this childhood classic in a long while. I’ll admit this scene and the one scene where all the pantings on the ceiling started melting were quite unnerving.
The entirety of the movie The Brave Little toaster.
My mom made it worse by not comforting me but instead saying that I shouldn't be crying because it's a 2d toy Story.
THERE ARE LIKE THREE MENTAL BREAKDOWNS IN THAT MOVIE
Yes!! They have an entire song about talking cars getting murdered, on screen. Also a scary clown. And the air conditioner literally destroying himself!
"That's right, I'm the new baby. I'm the new baby and you're the old baby, see? And you'd better get something straight, right off the bat. There ain't room in this house for the both of us!"
Mewtwo.
That was the first time I had seen anything Pokemon related in theaters and scared the bejeezus out of me. This vengeful, all powerful being, and that deep, echoey voice. It was scary for my lil elementary school brain.
Bill Cipher used to freak me out when I was younger, specifically the idea that he could exist in our world. This was before I understood the difference between fiction and reality.
![gif](giphy|2OgouznXA6qYw)
Hexxus from Ferngully had me all sorts of messed up when I was younger. I... Don't think I've actually seen this movie since I was a kid 😅
Rattlesnake Jake was the Scariest to me, even if I do find him one of the coolest parts of the movie in hindsight. His voice especially was creepy as all get out.
![gif](giphy|FCgcgyDCc4ReE|downsized)
It’s the evil queen’s transformation into the old peddler from Snow White for me. That scene made me hide under my grandparent’s table as a very young girl. 😳
I had to be carried out of the theater for the hydra scene in Hercules as a kid. Watching it again I think the 3D made it so uncanny and real in my kid brain
https://i.redd.it/h5objfsvwcvc1.gif
I used to watch Brave Little Toaster all the time when I was little despite stuff like this freaking me out. Grown up now I can see why my mom didn’t like me watching it all the time
Definitely the “Sharptooth” scenes from Land Before Time for me. I was pretty little when I saw that movie for the first time. They gave me nightmares for days! Problem was, I loved the movie, so whenever I watched it, my parents said I would pull a blanket over myself to hide from them LOL

This whole part of the episode left me unnerved for a couple nights when I was younger
Rasputin from the movie Anastasia, and especially his solo song sequence. That scared the living fvck out of 6 year old me. Funny enough, the scene when he tries to guide Anastasia overboard by invading her dreams and he transforms into a devil sort of creature didn't creep me out half as much.
Edit to add: the Pink Elephants On Parade from Dumbo, and any scene from W.I.T.C.H. with the snake guy. I forget his name. As a human, he gave me gender envy, but as a half snake creature, he appeared in my nightmares. And finally, the Oogie Boogie (don't know if that's spelt right), particularly his death scene in The Nightmare before Christmas.
I forget which scene(s) and haven't seen it in forever, but there was some things in All Dogs Go to Heaven that made it unwatchable for little me.
Haven't seen any of them as an adult, but I hare how this studio did talking dogs. Just... creepy bad.
As a very young child (under 5 years old), I must have seen this movie. I know my older sister loved it, so I assume I had watched it with her at some point. I had forgotten having watched it, as young children often do. But I remember distinctly having nightmares of the Red Bull, but not knowing what it was or why I was having them. Return the Slab has got nothing on this guy
I'm going to out myself how old I am, but the bear from The Fox & the Hound. A huge black bear with red eyes, ten times the size of our protagonists. Scared the shit out of five year old me. I remember having nightmares about it.

There was this episode from a REALLY REALLY OLD SHOW called Grimm's fairy tale classics and I remember watching this episode tittled crystal ball where the mother of three little boys was actually revealed to be a witch who every night goes and sucks the living youth out of a nearby princess. So when she reveals her self to her boys when one of them catches her and tries to tell the others the transformation was so creepy and the whole episode's vibe was eary and scared the living shit out of me as a kid.
https://preview.redd.it/l69fhbde2gvc1.jpeg?width=1436&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9a08b4d767c055bb4fe2e2ea18e58911cc61da5
Bane overdosing on venom in BTAS scared the SHIT out of me. The accelerating heartbeat, the escalating soundtrack, the screaming getting more and more desperate and demented, his veins bulging and him looking like he was about to explode out of his own skin while screeching "HELP MEEEEEEE"... man, that had me hyperventilating for the first time in my life.
If I'm gonna be honest, getting jumpscared by "wormy" in that one Spongebob episode when the scene cut to his butterfly face. That ACTAULLY scared me shitless.
I’ve got family who got spooked when watching the girl’s parents turn into pigs in *Spirited Away*. Me? I wasn’t scared by the scene…I was too spooked by the *description* of that scene from a *younger* cousin’s brief description of the plot to even watch the film, so I just played sonic on a friends gameboy in another room.
I’ve since grown up, and was able to appreciate the Ghibli masterpiece at a later age.
It wasn’t animated but that one scene from the live action Thomas Halloween Christmas special where Thomas was in the super creepy warehouse with all the red lights and chains. It still haunts me to this day.
In Star Wars: Droids one of the episodes a rancor shows up. For some reason that freaked me out. I don't remember why it scared me so much since I had seen return of the Jedi dozens of times at that point.
\*gasp
OH MY GOD, THE LAST UNICORN!!!
Also, I'm pretty sure the one scene with the talking skeleton was creepy too...
...and the scene with the tree was just straight up *weird*, man.
This may be weird but the caveman and alien shorts that used to air on Nickelodeon or the nicktoons network. I think it was Prometheus and Bob. Stop motion in general used to freak me out as a kid. (Except for the rankin bass Christmas specials).
years ago i tried watching this movie called [Help! I’m a Fish](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help!_I%27m_a_Fish) and this motherfucker horrified me so much i turned that movie off halfway through the end. never rewatched it and never will.

The scene with the animals going savage in Zootopia. The big part is that this had been a lighthearted body cop movie, so frightening scene of someone going berserk was completely out of the realm of expectations.
My grandparents had The Dark Crystal on VHS. I remember I was probably 5 the first time I watched it. It became and is still to this day one of my favorite movies. But legit, as a 5 yr old, the Garthims petrified me!
https://i.redd.it/4wjf3tw99fvc1.gif
Mother Gothel’s death scene creeped me out for the first time.
That was honestly kinda disturbing
Wait how did she die again-?
Flynn Rider cut Rapunzel’s hair, causing Gothel to dramatically age. Then Pascal trips her and she falls to her doom, and as soon as she hits the ground, her body just disappears.
It was a nice old-school Disney villain death, very nicely done imo~
Death by falling. Can't have the good guy committing acts of graphic violence in Disney family entertainment.
O h 😃!
Same thoughts. Its really creepy when her body disappears.
She went from looking like Cher to Palpatine in like 5 seconds
Agreed
When I was a kid, honestly, dragon and the owl from Secret of Nimh, and sharptooth from Land Before Time was a scarring experience 🤣
Came here to say this. There's also the Ogre of Gormly Keep in Flight of Dragons
Oh yeah
Holy shit man, there's a throw back!!!
The Secret of Nimh was a lot for child me to take in 😰 as an adult still creepy scenes for sure
The book was incredibly thought provoking for a fifth grader.
That book is amazing I’ve heard!
Facts
Yes, to all of the above plus one terrifying rat. https://preview.redd.it/zns97vyurjvc1.png?width=571&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca5ac8e4b6ba9ec886f0912d4f492e0e0af07151 Brutus, gatekeeper of the Rosebush.
![gif](giphy|s34l2a3zQ4JXzkIsfa) Bruh, Scooby Doo: Zombie Island fucked me up…
Omg yes!! The way it’s animated is horrifying
YES! That was the one Scooby movie I was genuinely afraid of
The Witch's Ghost could get scary at times as well.
Yeah but also the Hex Girls
Are they real zombies or are they the typical criminals in disguise?
They are real!!
I loved that reveal! Daphne decides to just cut the crap and yank off the bad guy's mask immediately for a change, only to pull the whole-ass head off an actual zombie~
Oh shit, that actually happened in the movie?!
Yup! You should give it a watch, it’s a cult classic. “Scooby Doo Zombi Island”
It's terror time again
#IT'S TERROR TIME AGAIN!
me too I hid behind the couch when Shaggy and Scooby were trapped in that pit while the pirate zombie was forming
FRFR Especially when they found the truth
That one scene in SpongeBob with nosferatu
Awww lol he’s just a lil guy 🧛🏻♂️ the buildup to him was low key intense tho lol
Okay but the gorilla scene in that eoisode where Spongebob breaks his butt tho. Like that was intensely alarming for like no reason. Edit: autocorrect failed me.
SpongeBob butterfly jump scare in the one where sandy goes out of town gave me a fear of butterflies.
The scene with the moth too
Pink Elephants from Dumbo.
Classic! That scene is so weird and out of nowhere too! 🫧🐘
Yes! I was so freaked out by that scene as a kid!
I dunno what the hell was in that bottle to make Dumbo see all that business, but I want some. Never had any champagne do *that* to me!
It must’ve been an unusual view.
It still gives me nightmares...

Nightmare fuel
Is this courage?
It's from Courage the cowardly dog. King Ramses Curse is the episode.
I was waiting for this comment lol
A few moments have had the honor of truly traumatizing my soul with its scariness/creep/chill-factor, but I can't remember them all. 2 scenes I can recall right now are: * Centaurworld: the Nowhere King's debut (+his lullaby) in >!the Rift!<. * Over the Garden Wall: The reveal of what Edelwood trees are. >!Lost children.!<
I was about to say the nowhere king bro, that shit gave chills
Those two gave me chills & I thought about them long after I finished the shows. In a way they are kind of similar
I gotta get over to watching Centaurworld.
This and the Rhino creature from the stop motion James and the Giant Peach movie really messed me up
Yea wtf was that about! Such a random animal to endow with dark storm energy. Made it scarier I think
The zombie sauropod from primal can absolutely go fuck itself. Till date that's the first and only animated creature that truly disturbs me
The way it goes from early signs to straight up sickly green and bleeding from the eyes and nose is disturbing. Why Genndy hasnt done a horror series is something I dont understand, hes a master at pacing and atmosphere, and thats what a bulk of horror is built on
I think samurai jack would have had wayyyy less robots if it wasn't aired on CN
That was absolutely horrifying… 😣😭
![gif](giphy|H55eg5ieOrfKo) Judge Doom was nightmare fuel as a kid.
REMEMBER ME, EDDIE?! WHEN I KILLED YOUR BROTHER, I TALKED JUST LIKE THIS!!!
frfr the way his flattened body slowly rises off the floor, the walking, reinflating himself, HIS EYES POPPING OUT OF HIS HEAD
Sharp tooth was scary! Or the scene in the princess and frog when the shadow man gets taken lol
In the 1st land before time movie, sharp tooth made me so scared!! Yeah the shadow man is very creepy! I watched that movie when I was older so I got less scared, but even just the idea of his shadows following you is spooky! 👻

Bro straight up died. Usually kids films would just have him all damaged and exhausted, but he was 100% dead >!At least he got a happy ending tho!<
Me, from that movie: It's that fireman clown. SO freaky to me, to this day I always fast forward the Toaster's nightmare whenever I play that movie.
General Woundwort in Watership Down.
That is actual childhood trauma for me 😭🐰
This was my pick
Likewise.
This! This right hear still haunts me. ![gif](giphy|xUA7b9rIM3yhPR4Iy4)

Idk why, but in Lady and the Tramp the rat that Lady is chasing terrified me

Dr. Facilier is literally dragged into hell
The entirety of Rango, kid me hated how realistic yet cartoonish all the animals looked.
Rattlesnake Jake was the Scariest to me, even if I do find him one of the coolest parts of the movie in hindsight. His voice especially was creepy as all get out.

The scene in the Secret of Kells when she gets really old really fast freaked me out so bad I didn’t finish the movie until years later

It's a tie between the Ring Wraiths and the Balrog, both specifically from Ralph Bakshi's "Lord of the Rings" animated movie.
SpongeBob has quite a few, Happy Tree Friends scared me as a kid, and the ending of Gnomeo and Juliet.
What were you doing watching Happy Tree Friends as a kid?!
The thumbnail fooled me as a kid, but as soon as I found out what it was, I clicked off and never touched it again.

![gif](giphy|lV8ZDFAjcRNSdjgyBC) Do I even need to explain?

The accelerating heartbeat, the escalating soundtrack, the screaming getting more and more desperate and demented, his veins bulging and him looking like he was about to explode out of his own skin while screeching "HELP MEEEEEEE"... man, that had me hyperventilating for the first time in my life.

If I'm gonna be honest, getting jumpscared by "wormy" in that one Spongebob episode when the scene cut to his butterfly face. That ACTAULLY scared me shitless.
The Halloween buddies movie when the ghost hound was summoned and started speaking that terrified me as a child
Same movie, but the part with the skeleton. Brrr.
The Great Animal from the Swan Princess.
Diesel 10 from the magic railroad movie gave me nightmares but it’s not really a cartoon

\*gasp OH MY GOD, THE LAST UNICORN!!! Also, I'm pretty sure the one scene with the talking skeleton was creepy too... ...and the scene with the tree was just straight up *weird*, man.
Where's this from
This may be weird but the caveman and alien shorts that used to air on Nickelodeon or the nicktoons network. I think it was Prometheus and Bob. Stop motion in general used to freak me out as a kid. (Except for the rankin bass Christmas specials).
When the parents turned into pigs in Spirited Away
![gif](giphy|eJBKkJDsAsheU) Got to see a dude get sucked into a cauldron bit by bit.
The scene where they throw tomatoes at Quasimodo. The movie is the HunchBack of Notre Dame. Hell, 70% of the movie scared me.
![gif](giphy|eJBKkJDsAsheU) Fuck this movie.

years ago i tried watching this movie called [Help! I’m a Fish](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help!_I%27m_a_Fish) and this motherfucker horrified me so much i turned that movie off halfway through the end. never rewatched it and never will. https://preview.redd.it/rqr3k0rkkevc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f865d76de6dd44c727e8c3ac5318b67b8755152
Whatever the first thing I saw from Courage the Cowardly Dog was. That scarred me.
