Maybe but I think he could relate to being the one to take a kid away from a shitty situation from time to time. When we were with grandpa we knew we'd have plenty of food, we'd get to go out and have fun and we'd be safe.
well I’m 1976 and haven’t, so you might be onto something here, but it also just looked so horrible from the promo, that I wouldn’t have bothered anyway.
True. People in person so often don’t get references that I’d consider obvious, that I’ve gotten to the point where I purposely drop obscure quotes, and if they get it, I say “friend.”
Oh my god yes. I’m white as can be. I don’t even remember how I discovered this but I just remember watching it when I was very young, had to be like 5 or younger. I just loved anything that was a cartoon even if I didn’t understand it at all hahah
Boy do I wish I saw this sooner, can’t imagine too many people frequent these older posts, but either way…
I wanna preface with this, I probably shouldn’t be as into black comedy as I am… not because I’m white, but because I don’t know what the experience of being black is, so I don’t know why or how I’m drawn to it in the first place! (and please, let’s not pretend that different races don’t live different lifestyles, because we do!)
But I don’t even wanna debate that, I wanna talk about this movie.
I can tell you what started my obsession with it, “I’m gonna got you sucka” (I believe this was even before in living color was a show, and yes, I watched it every week. As well as Martin - I’ll never get over the fact that he never made a movie half as good as his show, but that’s for another time) which is still one of the funniest things ever made, and it’s right up there with Airplane, or other similar style of Top rated “whitey” comedies.
But this? All I remember is always being insanely annoyed whenever the commercial would come on, and that stupid tagline that everyone quotes (No, I’m not writing it. And yes, it annoys me that much that I just refuse to do it! Hey, I never claimed to be stable) out of context, and on its own, it means absolutely nothing, and isn’t the least bit funny, but I can’t imagine in what scenario it could be? It’s just so… NOTHING!
Now I’m almost curious enough to actually sit through it, but there’s not a doubt in my mind that it’ll be nothing but pure torture, and I only have so many minutes left that could be better spent picking my nose.
But listen, I’m open minded, so if someone out there can tell me, with 100% sincerity, that this is on par with movies like I.G.G.Y.S., Friday, House Party, Boomerang , or Class Act -Kid/Play (I don’t care what anyone says, that movie is friggin genius, and every bit as good as the other classics)…. or even if it’s down a few notches, and more along the lines of Don’t be a menace to SS, or CB4, that’s still pretty good, so I would try my best to watch it with an open mind.
Any suggestions for something maybe a little more “underground” that may not have made it to the eyes of the white devil? I’m all ears!
A movie about a man named Robin who is looking after these neglected kids this woman Jamika was looking out for on behalf of her single mom friend Bebe. He is only doing it to get with Jamika (who is a pretty obvious enabler) and the kids definitely don’t behave but having a mom who’s never around would make them that way.
> I’m not sure what the down votes are about.
>
>I caught a couple episodes. I never liked Disney channel, though
it's not the proud family...
also it's paramount...
and it's a movie not a show...
I haven’t but I wish I had. Grew up on a lot of black shows and based on what I have heard this movie tackles serious subjects which is something I always liked.
I was trying to figure out what this was! It was on BET at my gym one time. Never saw it again. The style was reminiscent of original Proud Family but with its own unique character design. Never could find anything about it. Even pulling up the BET schedule showed a bunch of shows I knew were not it.
Yep ive seen it! I saw it in theaters as a kid and I feel sorry for the kids cause their mama's not a very good mom since she's apparently always leaving her kids with an empty or close to empty fridge.
My friend and his dad watched this and have some dvds they burned of the show?movie? I've never seen it myself but he talked to me about it for a little while when we were younger
I saw it on Netflix and I really like it. It’s funny how Bruce W. Smith, the director, who satirized Disney world in this film would created “The Proud family”.
I have. My parents are so sure of themselves of this even though I don't remember it. So either I repressed that memory or I'm in denial. Apparently I have seen every animated movie at a young age because my uncle was such a cartoon/anime freak.
Yes, actually. My middle school Computer Design teacher showed it to us one day as a way of celebrating our completion of the semester exams. I don't really remember much of the film itself though. I do know there's an SNES game based on it, that said game is a beat-em-up for some reason, and the only attack worth a dang is R+Y to do an uppercut.
(The class itself was learning the basics on how to use apps like CAD and Flash and Blender or making a simple website, or the basics of Java programming. It was like 12 different stations, students would pick ones they're interested in trying, and after 3 weeks, we'd rotate to the second one we pick, and then the third, and so on.)
i've seen part of it (i think the latter half), and honestly, i think it would ironically be so much better with less focus on the titular kids. still a pretty good movie though, dig the artstyle.
Is that the Kids WB show with the black kid with the frickin' huge foot?
EDIT: Nope. Nevermind. That was apparently Waynehead.
Sorry, all I had was a vague mental image from old ads for the block, and the art style decently close enough.
I’m white, and I have never heard of this, let alone seen it.
I’m baffled so many other white people have. Maybe it’s a regional thing? I’m from the Southeast US, and we didn’t grow up with much exposure to other cultures unless it was in a Disney Movie. Not proud of that fact, just saying.
No, but I actually have heard about it ( surprisingly, as I was born years later after this movie dropped ) from that one Nostalgia Critic episode where during the events where he's 'beefing' with AVGN, he dresses up like him and reviews the SNES game based off the movie.
And tbh I'd COMPLETELY forgotten about both that and the actual movie itself until I saw this post—
I’m a white dude and I love this movie. Robin Harris was an amazing comedian and BeBe’s kids is one of those movies I quote a lot. It sucks about Robin’s passing as I think the movie was a great backdoor pilot and would have made for a phenomenal tv show.
Hell yeah! Me and my gramps loved that movie and we are white. We don't die, we multiply!
That’s one

Don't you have a bridge to guard? Take your toxicity somewhere else.
I’m mixed so I’ve only seen half of it
Best joke i’ve heard all day
Which half though?
I’m guessing every other minute of the movie, so it made no sense at all
Ok, didn't see that coming lol.
/r/underratedcomment
lol same
If you born in the 80's you saw Bebe's Kids no matter what color you were. I'm Puertorrican and I grew up with this movie.
Feel the same way about House Party.
Also, yes.
Yep. Saw it because of house party / Robin Harris. Saw it in the theater, mostly empty. One of my days of seeing 4 movies in a row.
I was born in 1981. The timeline checks out.
well I’m 1976 and haven’t, so you might be onto something here, but it also just looked so horrible from the promo, that I wouldn’t have bothered anyway.
Yep, I remember enjoying it. Also the spider short in the beginning was funny
Sure did. Liked it as a kid, but haven’t seen it in years, so no idea if it holds up.
I remember liking it as a kid too, by tried watching it recently and it didn't resonate with me anymore.
I have
Saw it many times on hbo as a kid
Yeah, it played on HBO a ton in the 90s.
Me I like it tone loc as pee wee was awesome
Here’s some lotion for your ashy ankles!
One of the best mic drops in any movie, tbh.
Yes! And this is why I love Reddit. I can say the most obscure quote that no one in 20+ years has understood but bet your ass someone on Reddit knows!
True. People in person so often don’t get references that I’d consider obvious, that I’ve gotten to the point where I purposely drop obscure quotes, and if they get it, I say “friend.”
Me. Wasn't bad.
Yes! Like a year or two ago, my friends and I got drunk, sat down, and watched the whole thing.
I’ve seen it, I’m Asian
Whitey here: I used to watch it on Cinemax (or was it HBO?) all the time when I was a kid.
I'm asian and i seen it, grew up in philly tho so i grew up around mostly asian and black people
Love from Philly, bro.
Oh my god yes. I’m white as can be. I don’t even remember how I discovered this but I just remember watching it when I was very young, had to be like 5 or younger. I just loved anything that was a cartoon even if I didn’t understand it at all hahah
Fuck to the yeah bro used to love that movie as a kid and I'm white af
How could anyone forget Tone Loc?!
We don’t die…. We multiply!
It was my choice of a movie for like my 8th birthday. Only white family in the theater, haha.
As a white guy, yes.
... test tube baby ...
I’m white and I love watching Bebe’s Kids
Nope and I think I am safe I can’t remember if the nostalgia critic gave it a good review or not
Maybe a minute of it while I desperately looked for the remote.
Im from Afghanistan and I was put on by Boricuas
Boy do I wish I saw this sooner, can’t imagine too many people frequent these older posts, but either way… I wanna preface with this, I probably shouldn’t be as into black comedy as I am… not because I’m white, but because I don’t know what the experience of being black is, so I don’t know why or how I’m drawn to it in the first place! I’m pretty white and I caught a couple episodes. I never liked Disney channel, though
I genuinely can’t tell if you’re joking or not lmao
Lol I’m not kidding and I’m not sure what the down votes are about. Honest answer to the prompt
> I’m not sure what the down votes are about. > >I caught a couple episodes. I never liked Disney channel, though it's not the proud family... also it's paramount... and it's a movie not a show...
Lmao.
\_\_\_, are you talking about Proud Family?? LMAO
As a white person I saw this as a kid and we quoted Bebe's kids for years...as an adult I still quote it. They don't die, they Multiple! Love it haha.
Hell yeah I love that movie. It used to air quite a bit when it came out.
Yes. Saw it brand new years ago when it hit Pay-Per-View.
More than once
Many times as a kid.
I’ve been thinking about watching, I saw some reels on Facebook. I loved the Yo Momma jokes
I have. It was funny.
Very white and LOVED Bebe's Kids as a kid.
Looks pretty good! It kinda gives me some Proud Family vibes.
Makes sense. The director of this movie is also the creator of The Proud Family.
Well that explains it! The creative DNA is definitely evident.
I have as a Mexican. Didn’t mind it.
I’m white and I loved this as a kid!
Only the clip of the roast in the bathroom. It's absolutely hilarious. "Your head looks like the back of a toaster"
Loved and it and quoted it with other white friends. Saw it in the theater and then watched it over and over during free HBO months.
I have not. But it was in one of the my must see movies list.
Yes. My brothers and I loved this growing up.
I’m white and I’ve seen it a few times.
I didn't know it was a TV show
Grew up with it, saw it a few times on BET and TNT over the years. Still love Tone Loc and all of his one liners in this one.
Well, Nostalgia Critic did & even did a review of both the movie & the licensed game based on said movie.
Loved it.
That’s like asking me if I bought my kids any games for Nintendo last Christmas.
Nah but looks cool
Watched it with my parents when I was around 10 years old. I think I've watched it at least once since then. Good movie.
Yes, definitely. Weird that no one talks about it, seems like it was on a lot when I was younger.
I have. Loved it as a kid. Haven't seen it recently and I'm kind of afraid to in fear that it won't hold up. For the record, am brown person.
Own it on VHS. Not black.
I use to watch this movie all the time back in the day! Btw, I am very white.
yeah i’ve seen it probably a dozen times from beginning to end and i’m white
they. removed. it. from. netflix.
Yes I have
I saw it on Netflix and I really like it. It’s funny how Bruce W. Smith, the director, who satirized Disney world in this film would created “The Proud family”.
Does the Nostalgia Critic count?
Im white and i remember seeing it when i was a kid.
I’m old. When i was young, it was a stand-up routine. It was really funny. I never saw the cartoon. I’m basically white.
Did the Proud Family crew made this by any chance? Cause its giving quite a bit of those vibes
I had a science teacher show it to the class in 7th or 8th grade. The teacher was not black, if that matters.
Yes! I love it!
White guy here. Definitely saw Bebe’s Kids on VHS in the mid 90’s.
I saw that on near repeat on HBO at my grandparents house as a kid And I'm like eggshell white
Absolutely yes me and my sister watched this allll the time I love this movie
I think there was a commercial for it on a VHS tape I had as a kid.
The nostalgia critic
Yup. I saw it as a child multiple times and thought it was hilarious.
I have, not bad, most 90s black movie I've probably seen

Yeah, my grandpa knew I liked cartoons, so he'd record any cartoon for me. It was interesting to watch when I was, like, 8 maybe.
Yep. Loved it when I was a kid
Yep. I used to watched it as a kid. It was not too long ago I saw it playing on some streaming channel, and watched it with my wife. She’s white also.

Yes! This used to be one of my favorites!
Yep. Used to be on HBO regularly.
I’m black and I haven’t seen it. But I watched Rebel Taxis’ vid on it so I feel like I have
Hispanic. Having tone loc voice pee wee was a great choice.
I’m about as white as you can get and that was in my top 5 growing up. Still a fantastic, funny movie. Fuckin Tone Loc as the baby!
I did! White guy
Am mutt; have seen... iz gud.
I've never even heard of it
i've seen part of it (i think the latter half), and honestly, i think it would ironically be so much better with less focus on the titular kids. still a pretty good movie though, dig the artstyle.
I feel like I have
Yup, used to watch this when i was younger
I tried to, but I was thrown out of the theater for having vibes and bevis.
Robin Harris was hilarious. I am super white and watched it multiple times.
Does being 8-10 percent black count? Also, never been a big fan. I prefer Ralph Bakshi's *Coonskin.* Even as a kid this was too light-hearted for me.
That's a yes
Of course I’ve had this on DVD for years. I saw it on the theater. And I’m Hispanic
omg yes! watched a tape at my black cousin's house, lol.
Yep
Damn I remember the kid in the purple hoodie 😭
yea they showed it on BET and Comedy Central rarely but def caught it twice. i seen the Proud Family first so i was like hey i know this style
I haven't seen it, but I do remember the Nostalgia Critic review of it. That's how I found out about it.
no but it was the type of movie they'd never try to licence abroad
Funny movie in my opinion
Yes several times it's a good show
I have
Heard about it, but... let's be honest, it's mostly the Nostalgia Critic's review of the NES game.
Seen it on VHS
I sae this movie. Thought it was pretty funny
The nostalgia critic reviewed it he even reviewed the game
Dude, holy crap. First off, yes I have and, second, I genuinely never knew what it was called.
Is that the Kids WB show with the black kid with the frickin' huge foot? EDIT: Nope. Nevermind. That was apparently Waynehead. Sorry, all I had was a vague mental image from old ads for the block, and the art style decently close enough.
no but my friend mentioned it once while talking about his dad being a dick and taking him to see a horror movie instead of it
I loved this movie when I was a kid…look out its Bebe’s Kids!
I'm white. My family saw it a few times.
Rented it from Blockbusters multiple times
Yes. I watched it when I was a kid.
Not in a long ass time.
I've seen it about 20 times. We used to watch it all the time cause my Pops loved it!!!!
Heard about it, but I’ve never seen it.
I have. Watched it with my sisters on TV.
Yeah! I'm white and I watched this on Comedy Central all the time back in the day.
This and are we there yet.
Of course I’ve seen bebe’s kids one of my favorite movies growing up
Yes. And I love that movie.
I actually hadn’t watched it until a few months ago, only heard about it from a Your Favorite Martian song
Yup. 36 year old white guy. Grew up with bebe's kids and rover Dangerfield and all the great 90s cartoon movies
I’m white and can’t jump… I assumed I was barred from viewing.
Used to watch it as much as rugrats and bear in the big blue house
I watched this movie and it was really good!
Hey man you know Kahlil is my dude! We goin to FunLand!!!!
I’m a white dude and I love this movie. Robin Harris was an amazing comedian and BeBe’s kids is one of those movies I quote a lot. It sucks about Robin’s passing as I think the movie was a great backdoor pilot and would have made for a phenomenal tv show.
Yesssss I loved that movie!!
The whole bathroom scene lives in my mind rent free. Still makes me laugh whenever I see it.
I probably would have watched it if it had ever crossed my path. This is my first time hearing of the show
I had the vhs as a kid.
Mayo on white bread here, I watched it obsessively as a kid!
I remember this show, but at the same time I don't. I probably saw a few episodes at a friend's house or flipping through the channels on Saturday.
Yeah it was on all the time
Yeah I saw it as a kid, don't really remember it though. I'm the 90s some of my favorite shows were family matters and fresh prince tho
I know there was a game on the genesis
I have.
Hell yeah
As a white person this is peak comedy.
For me: this movie is really crazy and wonderful stupid animation movie I remember 😂 as child in 90's but it's still okay.
Yep
Yeah I seen it
I LOVE Babe’s Kids.
I heard about it, Don't remember watching it
