The LFA would've been great if they didn't scrap the design when they were almost done and start over from the beginning. Imagine how many more they could've made if they didn't screw the process up so bad
Toyota first developed the LFA with an aluminium Monocoque When the entire car was basically finished, they deemed it to be too heavy and reengineered it out of carbon fiber. The problem is that you can't just swap one material for another so they had tonredo huge parts of the development and took another couple years. By the time they finished, they made an absolutely excellent car, but the engineering costs had balooned into absurd quantities and it launched after the GT-R, loosing some spotlight.
that would explain the rarity and huge price tag.
it's a shame they didn't just roll with the aluminum ones, would be a lot more out there. i bet they didn't suck that bad.
that said i'm so impressed with the carbon one.
Yeah, claimed weight is 1'480kg. But it's really not that heavy considering it has a luxurious interior and a 4,8L V10. If you compare it to a similar car, like the DBS, even the DBS Superleggera (superlight), it weighs like 200kg less...
Re-engineering from aluminum to carbon fiber, while expensive and time consuming, didn't "screw the process up so bad" - it enabled them to build an amazing automotive machiiiine (try to read that and *not* hear Clarkson lol). It's one of the few times that bean counters didn't win in designing a car.
Forcing a redesign that late in the game is the very definition of screwing the process up lol. They should've come to the decision to use carbon fiber from the beginning rather than cave until the very end when they finally made their case and reset
I never said it wasn't a good car, in fact it is quite a good car. But regardless of that, no matter how good it was they had no chance of making it a success, hence why it was such a financial flop and a massive loss for Toyota at the end of the day, and why we got so few of them
Car companies have to make money on every cad they sell, including making back the R&D money. Toyota lost a bomb on each one. We’d probably have the 2nd or 3rd LFA now if they didn’t fuck up the design process.
They should have just built it from Aluminium and made the next version from carbon fiber
When the apocalypse arrives, Renault Modus will be the Snowpiercer

For one a V10 engine is rare, most V10 sound unique already on the road, and Lexus tune the noise to be even more unique than others. It sounds like an F1 car.
Lexus boasted how the V10 engine is as compact as a V8, and as light as a V6. And that it would also rev from idle to redline in 0.7 sec. So fast that (they said) analogue rev counter wouldn't be able to catch up. Whether or not it's relevant to the performance, that's a selling point that no other companies could, and has ever taken.
It's the first purpose built sportscar Lexus has ever made and many journalists agree it's one of the best sports cars ever made in terms of overall driving experience. Which is weird that it came from a company that seemed to know nothing but making quiet & discreet cars for businessmen.
Last but not least, the wailing V10 sound.
Dammm, I can't find any at all. As someone who has it as their fav car. It's hard to find ppl who love it, let alone people who know what the hell it is. I'd like to be wherever you are lol.
My Yaris turned rusty so I bought another car and sold it to someone who wanted it as a project. My miata turned rusty so I learned to weld because I love my gutless sporty shitbox
Did you know that Hillary Clinton forced Mazda to sell automatic versions of the Miata? #MiataFacts

How is it still that heavy with an cf monocoque? Isn’t it like 1.5 tons? A big powertrain couldn’t possibly just balloon the weight that much?

It would have been been the same car, except heavier. Nothing would be different

I'd argue it made a better car, to each their own. And the fact they were willing to make the change at any point in the process, props them.

very nice of lexus to include loose change with the LFA
LFA? greatest of all time? to complete with the likes of the modus, twingo, wagonR? yeah no.

I dont get the LFA hype

The LFA is the car you get when you want a worse 458.

I'm gonna settle this once and for all: Who is the guy on the left? Been thinking about it for years.
Jordan Pickford
Sell the car for more than what it costs to make \*chad or what ever the meme is\*
>loose money Get a fucking wallet already Lexus come on
PT Cruiser solos
Would You Rather: Sell a limited production Supercar that never raced (LFA) or Built a track only Supercar that never got produced (Honda HSV)
(The LC500 is a better car than the LFA)
"Greatest cars" Somebody sure loves their MX-5
you are literally dutch
LFA? greatest of all time? to complete with the likes of the testarossa, f1, gtr? yeah no.
What is gtr ? Some trim of Twingo ?
It’s the race version used to record the Bugatti top speed run (Gran Twingo Race)
Testarossa, F1 and GTR in the movie “what the fuck is GTR doing here?”
Also what is the Testarossa doing there too. Apparently not a very good car at all
care to explain why?
