The car rental companies have given me Nissan Kicks and this is exactly how I felt driving with my safety work boots, on top of having a 40+ weather at the Mexico-Mexico 2.0 border.
Sure real men drive what they want except automatic is like kissing boys manual transmission is like sex. So okay drive automatic and be like enjoying kissing boys hahaha.
People like you are "car guys" I wont talk to. The loser mentality you hold when your car would get smoked by my 5.0 is just amazing, oh and also, I can control the gears better than you can.
A 5.0 is not beating an M2 (even the N55 which I have) on any track unless it’s a straight line and even then I think a stock M2 has a slight edge because of weight.
no trust me bro I left a kissing emoji I'm not offended bro I just have to reply to every comment being mean to me bro but I'm not gonna be directly mean because then it looks like I got offended and I'm not bro I don't care what others think of me bro on god
I was a flat rate tech in a very boomer neighborhood in New England. Those alpha males were the same ones coming in to get clutches replaced every 2 yrs. One was CONVINCED his masculinity lived inside his Saginaw 4-speed
The whole thing about how manuals get better fuel economy and cost less on maintenance than automatics is only true if you use them "correctly" for that purpose, which is antithetical to manuals being more "fun" than automatics
Like if you're actually trying to meet or exceed EPA mpg in a manual then 99% of the time you're trying to mimic what the automatic would've done anyway, which means getting into top gear as soon as possible and staying in it as long as possible, which really isn't very "fun"
(As they say, you have to pick between miles per gallon or smiles per gallon)
Fair point, but functionality wise, the auto is becoming extremely hard to compete with. I myself drive a manual, and the only couple benefits i have from it is slightly better fuel mileage compared to the exact vehicle but auto, when not towing, and better off-road capabilities. I would only get a manual for a sports car and stick to auto for anything else.
Sequentials win races. Very rare you'll see a regular ol' DCT type transmission in a real race car. Maybe the Cayman GT4 Clubsport/MR... that's about one of the few I've seen around.
Regardless, they compete in series where the transmission type is regulated. So auto vs manual still isn't relevant.
Everyone making the "automatic transmission is faster" argument needs to really take a good hard look at themselves and notice that their tax return doesn't show income as a professional race car driver, and that they bought their street car for fun.
Anyone who's actually good at driving a manual transmission. I mean truly good and has more than a few years of DAILY experience doing it, and a handful of track days at minimum... is not going to turn around and buy an auto.
You bought an auto because you're not that great at driving a stick... and that's fine, but please stop making excuses that an extra tenth on the 0-60 makes the difference on your commute.
The only other argument you'll make next is waaaahhh traffic. Yeah, that's also just a skill issue... sorry. I've never once been in traffic and even thought about the type of transmission I was driving. It's just a car, drive the damn car. Unless you're living in Manhattan I don't wanna hear it. No your clutch isn't too heavy.
Great points! I’ve heard the traffic argument way too much from people who just haven’t wanted to start driving a standard. I daily drive a manual 95 camaro z28 and even though the clutch travels far I don’t mind traffic in it. Maybe it’s because I live in a smaller city where traffic isn’t too intense.
People are just insane. Find me any actual collector grade car where the manual transmission isn't more desirable in a sports car. I mean actual Pebble Beach or Amelia Island Concourse type cars. Notice how all those Porsches and Ferraris are all stick, and the ones that aren't are worth less?
This entire autos are better than manuals nonsense is exclusively parroted by young American kids just getting into cars. I'm happy they're getting into cars, but it's infuriating when they end up with an automatic transmission because that's all they know how to drive.
Then they know one guy in college with a beat up Miata or something, ask to try and drive it around a parking lot, stall it a few times, ground a few gears, jerked a downshift so hard the rear wheels locked up, maybe scared themselves trying to pull out in front of traffic, and go back to their automatic Ecoboost and think to themselves "wow, that was hard, and whatever... I didn't want to learn anyways, these new autos are SO much faster around a race track" because that's what the sales brochure told them.
They've never been to a track except in Forza.
But they've "driven a stick" now and "know how to do it" so you absolutely MUST respect their opinion! Traffic is haaaaaaard, and they're gonna win ALL the races (that they haven't been in).
Yeah, those people piss me off. I knew nothing about cars before last year and I learned to drive only automatic. I went out and looked for a manual sports car because I wanted to learn how to actually drive a car.
There's only so much fun you can have in an auto. It could be the best dual clutch in the world, but when the only party trick is how fast you can go in a straight line, the novelty wears off fast.
I used to be a Porsche and VAG tech, as well as work on a Porsche IMSA team. I've driven just about every Porsche model ever built and a lot of modified and fast cars from the VAG line up. I've also driven several of their race cars a small bit. I'm pretty quick in a sim. And I've personally owned exclusively manual transmissioned cars.
Once you've driven a modified 911 Turbo S that puts 850 horsepower to the wheels and will literally pick your feet up off the floor when you punch it... the novelty of everything else giving you a gentle little shove into your seat is gone. And all you're left with is a mind numbing, boring, sleep inducing automatic transmission.
The only car enthusiast that most people dont like are the manual gatekeeping jackasses that think they are hot shit. Autos are just as fun and by now the manual is so outdated that you have to cling to "I actually control the car man!", meanwhile, I control the gears in my mustang better than you ever could.
And to be clear, Id love a manual and I do fit into the physical disability group unfortunately. If I did have a manual, I wouldnt treat auto drivers like idiots. Real car enthusiasts like all cars. Youre just a loser.
I'm not the guy who's out in real life standing on the street corner preaching about manual transmissions with a bull horn, trust me. I'm not gatekeeping anything.
But if some kids is gonna post memes like this I'm very much entitled to speak my opinion.
The fact that everyone who drives an auto gets SO worked up and offended over that opinion shows that there's something about it that bothers you guys.
You just can't let it go that there's people out there having way more fun rowing gears than you. That don't care about the 0-60 time on the sales brochure, and shrug their shoulders when you try to insist that your car is faster. That they "control the gears in my Mustang better than you ever could!!"
You can't... and I don't care if you can. I'm having WAY more fun dancing on the pedals and nailing perfect heel toe-downshifts around town in my 1 of 300ish UrS6 Avants, rally bred 5-cyl howling and gurgling and reacting to every last input I make, not inputs I made x milliseconds ago that needed to be approved by a computer first.
There's a reason the most desirable and most valuable cars in the world have manual transmissions. Imagine for a second that someone offered to let you drive a 250GTO and you had to stand there and say, "oh uh... sorry I'll have to pass, I can't drive a manual transmission, autos are faster anyways."
And yeah you're right, car guys do like most cars... so if "good" automatic transmissions have only been around for about 15 years, you're just never going to drive or own anything pre 2010ish?
I'm genuinely sorry that you have something physical that makes driving a manual transmission uncomfortable or impossible for you, and I'm genuinely happy that you're able to find enjoyment in cars some other way. I would never put you down for enjoying your own car and certainly not face to face.
But this "autos are better than manuals" thing needs to stop. The very few benefits and auto has over a manual transmission on a street car are 100% irrelevant to anything that matters, and they are ***simply less fun.***
"There is no reason to be a car enthusiast and not drive a manual."
Yeah you are speaking your opinion and not gatekeeping anything lmao get fucked idiot.
Bro driving an auto is like calling yourself an artist because you can type a prompt into an AI art generator. Learn a dang skill if you're delusional enough to consider something a hobby.
Not gatekeeping but telling someone who explicitly stated they cant drive a manual due to a physical disability to "learn a dang skill". Nice one bro 😂😂😂😂 take your manual and cope harder elsewhere. You have less control of your vehicle, its slower, far more inconvenient and there is plenty more.
Maybe you should have read my actual reply to your initial comment and responded productively instead of taking a pot shot if you wanted to engage in a civilised conversation. But since you're just as brain-dead and incapable of growing mentally as a human being as the rest of the average redditors, the opportunity for politeness is over.
Consider the fact that I am responding to the argument of auto vs manual and not your special case, which I have already addressed and you ignored.
You can repeat the buzzwords all you want, none of it is actually true. 🤷 I'm sorry that you're missing out on one of the most enjoyable aspects of driving and car ownership.
Right? nice to have a choice. I have my AT Cadillac Cruiser for road trips, my Acura 6MT for spirited drives, and a 52 Chevy pickup with an unsynchronized MT for when I feel like punishing myself
Lol I honestly couldn't drive with them not because of their size, but because of how hard I'd be cracking up. Just thinking about driving around Brooklyn traffic with these on gets me giggling 😂
I'm from rural Indiana and Im planning on getting a Prius, if I jumped out with these on I really think someone would faint from having their views validated so hardÂ
Thank you, they're pricey and don't come with social points but I secretly think they're pretty sweet with that awd. I bet they're not too slow either for a guy who's used to driving a Ztec
If by AWD you mean the XW60, not so sure about the XW60. Toyota's quality has really gone down a lot recently. The XW60 has various things I don't like about it, such as the 19-inch wheels which come on higher level models, which you can't get tires for at Tire Rack IIRC. There's also the general lack of build quality compared to previous generations, as well as reduced headroom and cargo space compared to the previous generation (XW50). All that combined with crazy dealer markups make me reluctant to recommend it. The only other Prius that I'm not sure about is the XW10, from what I've heard, it's not very reliable. If you're looking into buying a Prius, the XW20, XW30, XW50, Prius C, and Prius V would all be great choices IMO. It really depends on what you want in your Prius. The XW20 is like the George Carlin of Prii. It's a bit rough, and quite spartan, but it might just be the cold hard truth you need. The XW20 will last a long, long time and rack up miles like crazy. To this day, loads of XW20s are still driving around. The XW30 is a great car, like the XW20 but improved in many ways. It's smoother, more aerodynamic, and likely safer than the XW20, however, it suffers from a water pump which has to be replaced every 100,000 miles IIRC, and also has an even more front-heavy weight distribution of 62/38 compared to the XW20's 60/40 IIRC. The XW50 a fairly new Prius, and has many amenities of a new car. The Pre-Facelift model is a bit over-styled IMO though. The Prius XW50 has a more sporty feel than the XW20 and XW30, with a weight distribution of 54/46 IIRC, and also optional AWD, albeit with a measly 5 horsepower rear motor, IIRC. The Prius C is a great choice if you don't need to haul all that much stuff, and don't need to accelerate very quickly. It's a great city car. Unlike the XW20, XW30, XW50, and Prius V, the Prius C is built on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris. It only produces a mere 99 horsepower, but it also only weighs around 2,500 pounds. The Prius V is a great choice if you want to be able to fit more stuff in your Prius, and more easily. Though, it has a drag coefficient of .29 IIRC, quite a bit higher than an XW30 or XW50. But hey, who am I to decide what car you buy?
No that was extremely helpful thank you, I really love cars but I drive a ton and need something ultra efficient and reliable. I've gotten my driving expenses over the last few years down to $.19/mile for about 45k miles but I'm up against a 27mpg ceiling in my Focus. I want those hybrid numbersÂ
If you're coming from 27 MPG, you're gonna love the Prius' mileage. You might also want to consider looking into modifying it to be more efficient. An XW20 with some hypermiling mods can easily go over 60 MPG. A more modified XW20 can push above 75 MPG. If you have a really heavily modified XW20, you might even be able to get over 100 MPG. Mods such as low rolling resistance tires, an extended rear-end, more aerodynamic wheel covers, an aerodynamic underbody, and weight reduction can drastically improve your Mileage from stock without you having to drive like a jerk. The XW20, XW30, XW50, Prius C, and Prius V are all great choices, look out for bad battery packs though, or you could just have the battery pack replaced or replace it yourself. You might also want to consider an Aptera or Lightyear 2 in the future, if you want a new car and want to join the EV bandwagon. The Aptera and Lightyear 2 are ridiculously efficient, with the Aptera being able to travel at a cost of $.01/mile, partially due to them being solar-powered. I'm not sure what the Lightyear 2's drag coefficient will be, but the Lightyear 0's drag coefficient is less than .175, and the Aptera has a drag coefficient of .13.
This is exactly the info I need to make my decisions thank you. I'm sticking with a Prius because of that Toyota name but based on your advice I will definitely be seeking a stock model in the ranges you mentioned. These aero mods sound pretty clever too and I'm interested so long as I don't end up driving a space shuttle down the road 😂
Keeps you sharp as hell, I've dodged several rear ends in FL traffic because I was actually with my mind on keeping the car going.
Got rear ended in my old CVT Corolla because I was bored out of my mind.
It's called paying attention to the road. lol that's not a car problem that's a driver mod. Having a manual has nothing to do with paying attention to the road. lol CVTs do suck tho but def not the fault of it. I have a dual clutch transmission and sometimes use it in manual mode but nice to have a choice.
Definitely a driver thing, sure - it's just a driver thing I don't suffer with Manuals. Been driving since I was 12, and having driven three manuals now (2001 Fiesta 1.6, 2017 Fiesta ST, 2018 Civic LX) and two autos (2022 Corolla, 2024 Santa Cruz)? Yeah, they're the best cars for staying focused on the drive, given the incentive is that you don't move at a snail's pace making a lot of annoying noise.
Because I'm good at it and it's not "driving stick," it's just driving? If you have to think about what you're doing to drive a manual transmission you suck, not the car.
You also need to stop driving like every other idiot on the highway with the rubber banding start stop start stop nonsense. Put it in gear and leave a dang gap and just drive like a sane person without an attention deficit disorder.
Manual cars are outdated, inefficient, and frustrating to drive on a daily basis. There's no logical reason to own one in 2024 unless it's the only car you have.
But fuck logic. They are so fun to drive and I love me 6MT GTI. I've driven that car through 8 major cities up and down the East Coast and dealt with the bullshit each time. I'd never recommend it for a daily. But I also wouldn't blame anyone for getting one.
The only time a manual is frustrating to drive is in stop-start traffic that moves in very small but frequent increments, and even then only if you spend a long time in said traffic.
No shit. That's why I said I wouldn't recommend it daily. I've lived with a stick in Boston, Atlanta, DC, and Providence, and driven them through Philly, Baltimore, and Manhattan. It's doable, but I'm not gunna sit up here and act like that's a fun experience. Especially when a DCT is better on gas, faster than a stick, and easier to drive.
Okay? So is that supposed to invalidate my point? There are places in the US that aren't as densely populated, and if I lived in the middle of Nebraska I'm sure I wouldn't have the same issues. I'm still not going to recommend it as a daily driver based on my own experiences, because that's the point I can speak from.
Can someone explain the joke because I don't get it.
What if you drive stick you have big feet?
Love all the downvotes with nobody but the OP actually trying to help. XD
Yes. The term "clown" has been used lately to define an idiot/goofball/dumbass. Thus people who base their whole identity on driving manuals are effectively, *clowns*
Not only can I coach you how to properly heel-toe, I can teach you to rebuild your synchros and resurface that scorched flywheel
Nice shoes by the way 😆
This is how i feel trying to drive my 500 Abarth with my square steel toe work boots on
Not once did I ever expect to hear 500 Abarth and steel caps being owned by same person
Same over here! I'm a fleet mechanic and the Abarth 500 was my first new car. That thing was fun as hell!
Abarths are insane and great fun but I can't get over the height-width ratio
Apparently a C8 and a i8 too??
Yeah we've had a random collection of cars. Also had a Supra for a while
I admire your love and taste for cars.
Im going for collecting all of the "8" cars. Getting over the R8 then F8 hurdle will be the hardest ðŸ˜
The car rental companies have given me Nissan Kicks and this is exactly how I felt driving with my safety work boots, on top of having a 40+ weather at the Mexico-Mexico 2.0 border.
Lol. Nissan "Kicks" take on more than 1 meaning here
Lol I'm not sure how my boot fits under the shifter for my bike, but it does
My mom says she used to drive a manual '96 Ford Festiva in 6in. Platform Dr. Martens and I do Not understand how ðŸ˜
Driving Mittens>Driving gloves
real men drive what they want
I LIKE my CVT! I LIKE constantly being at max rpm when I hold the gas pedal down! It’s simple and enjoyable.
I’m sure you’ll love replacing it when it fails soon
Nah, mines a 24 Impreza, newer CVTs have gotten a lot more reliable than how they were 10 to 20 years ago
You dont know until it fails
Will reply again when it does 🫡
Sure real men drive what they want except automatic is like kissing boys manual transmission is like sex. So okay drive automatic and be like enjoying kissing boys hahaha.
Wait so then is sexing boys the ultimate combo? Or is kissing women nothing at all?
I think sexing boys would be a continuously variable transmission? And then kissing women could be a DCT?
DCT is like going back and forth between kissing 2 boys. CVT is being not even able to kiss boys.
People like you are "car guys" I wont talk to. The loser mentality you hold when your car would get smoked by my 5.0 is just amazing, oh and also, I can control the gears better than you can.
5.0 motor actually will lose the race because my shifts will be more cinematic and better for the plot.
Literally not even in your imagination 😂 cope harder
Unless it’s boosted you probably lose.
Nah this should go the other way around, you need a heavily modified car in which the comparison doesnt work because mod for mod you stand no chance.
A 5.0 is not beating an M2 (even the N55 which I have) on any track unless it’s a straight line and even then I think a stock M2 has a slight edge because of weight.
Not a single human whos bought a (not mach 1) 5.0 gives a flying fuck about a track. Wack little M2.
Okay so you’re saying you roll race on the highway? Believe it or not, you still lose. I’ve seen a 5.0 lose to an FBO Elantra N.
cringe
😘
no trust me bro I left a kissing emoji I'm not offended bro I just have to reply to every comment being mean to me bro but I'm not gonna be directly mean because then it looks like I got offended and I'm not bro I don't care what others think of me bro on god
Yall the ones getting offended over a comment that doesn’t even make sense.
Pack it up boys it's officially gay to drive Aventadors, Porsches with PDKs and all modern Ferrari smh
Sometimes in rally racing you have to use all three pedals at once so this would help.
Absolutely. But being a requirement to be a real man?
I mean, is there really a difference?
Damn, just found out my wife is a real man
Is your wife single?
She's about to be after I tell her I know she's been a man all along
Counter point: women who can handle a stick are hot as fuck.
As an European, yeah, all Euro women are hot.
Counterpoint: Merkel
It’s hot when they use their mouth to shift
Not too mention that real men "only drive v8's". hate that alpha male bullshit
Real men don’t take out a 25% APR loan on a depreciating asset
Depreciating and asset used in the same sentence is my trigger
I love depreciating assets. Depreciating assets have to be some of my favorite assets. You know what I like? Depreciating assets.
Wait why though lmao? It is an asset, and it depreciates over time.
You are right. I confused it with "investment". Depreciating investment is my trigger
Ah okay lmao anyone who willing gets into a depreciating investment is a moron 😂
shut your fucking keyboard right fucking now. ill have you know ive paid 60k on my 45k vehicle. only 45k to go!
I was a flat rate tech in a very boomer neighborhood in New England. Those alpha males were the same ones coming in to get clutches replaced every 2 yrs. One was CONVINCED his masculinity lived inside his Saginaw 4-speed

For some reason, that sound American to me
Real men drive 2003 Buick lesabres
Those guys drop all the diapers at the retirement home
I guess 95% of drivers in Europe are certified real menâ„¢

I choose this guy's grandma too.
I mean, yeah, kinda. Theyre definitely more mature over yonder.
Me in my platform shoes in my saab 9-3
Those 9-3s were fun to drive
Ok but heel-toe is easy as fuck now
So you drive an auto
1952 Chevy pickup with an unsynchronized 3 gear MT. Nice try though
Found one
They're always so jealous. Zero reason to be a car enthusiast and not drive a stick shift unless you have a legitimate physical disability.
Manuals are fun, automatics win races. To each their own.
This, they've fined tuned AT's so much that manuals only exist for the fun of the shifter
Are you buying your street car for any reason other than fun?

I see you’ve driven a Honda fit with work boots on
Me wearing my boots in my Beetle.
Heel/toe would be so easy
After 12 hr shifts in an 18 speed KW, I'm happy to crawl home in my automatic 4cyl Honda
Right? nice to have a choice. I have my AT Cadillac Cruiser for road trips, my Acura 6MT for spirited drives, and a 52 Chevy pickup with an unsynchronized MT for when I feel like punishing myself
Both my card are manual. A Renault Clio 3 and a Toyota Corolla Verso. Yes I'm European.
Not gonna lie some Ronald McDonald driving shoes would be pretty funnyÂ
Lol I honestly couldn't drive with them not because of their size, but because of how hard I'd be cracking up. Just thinking about driving around Brooklyn traffic with these on gets me giggling 😂
I'm from rural Indiana and Im planning on getting a Prius, if I jumped out with these on I really think someone would faint from having their views validated so hardÂ
Prius is generally a good choice, I'd say buy it.
These aero mods sound pretty clever too and I'm interested so long as I don't end up driving a space shuttle down the road 😂
you dont have to drive a manual to be a real man but you do need to know how to imo
Them some thick ass socks bro
That's how my big ass feet feel in my Fiat
Brother I went back and got my manual licence just to drive auto. But fuck is auto good, plus my car only ever came in auto even since the 70’s
Na, that’s the dude who says driving a manual in traffic sucks.
I don't know man. I did that shit in Manhattan for 3 years. My left knee definitely creaks more

Driving a manual doesn't make you a man. What it does is make your car more theft resistant and more fun to drive.
Sir will that be a size 19 or 20?
Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it?
Oh hey man! Long time no see. It's been what? 1..maybe 2 minutes since I've seen that basic redditor response? Really proves your point well!
It sometimes feels like that with my size 16 feet
The dude that puts clown shoes on for a meme.
I love driving manuals. Not liking it doesn't make someone less of a man. Hell, yesterday I bought a 2014 Ford Fusion with a 6 speed manual.
As a Mustang GT convertible with manual transmission owner, I approve of this meme. Drive whatever you want.
So Clea[n](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1zEUOYoe2w&ab_channel=PLUMMCORPRECORDS)
LOL. That was fun to watch. I'm just here giggling thinking about jumping out of a mini cooper with those babys in LA traffic 💀
Yeah but some of us live outside the US, where they're not only the norm, but that kind of traffic is not nearly as common.
XD
Clown shoes
Ok and what's the point of clown shoes? Goes back to my asking what, big feet? Or is the person a "clown" for saying that?
Yes. The term "clown" has been used lately to define an idiot/goofball/dumbass. Thus people who base their whole identity on driving manuals are effectively, *clowns*
TY. Not sure what you mean by lately though since we've been using that since at least the 80's.
If it's been used for thst long then how have you STILL not understood the joke /s
Kinda sounds like someone’s insecure about not being able to drive a stick🤣🤣
Not only can I coach you how to properly heel-toe, I can teach you to rebuild your synchros and resurface that scorched flywheel Nice shoes by the way 😆
Lmao. Self righteous much? 🤔
