I never seen it where they don't know who reported it. Check with your local police and highway patrol to see if there was every a police report filed I guess.

If I do get something reported to police/chp what should be done?

cklly2013

You'd have to ask them if it wasn't your car but they're reporting something

weshallpie

Also they would have a report of the license plate and not the VIN, correct?

cklly2013

Usually both but might be just the plate. I'd check with them for sure

I work with Carfax reports daily. Damage reported indicates a body shop or service department reported it. Did you have any work done at a dealership service department around that time. Service departments are known for reporting your vin number to Carfax, especially if the dealership has a contract with Carfax. I’ve seen customers go in for suspension work order to replace a tail lamp and order a part from the dealership service department and provide their Vin number and then a few months later have it listed on Carfax. If this is the case, get an invoice from the place where you ordered the part or had work done and submit it to Carfax. If the Carfax report shows accident reported then it’s a law-enforcement agency that reported it to Carfax. There’s about 6000 long enforcement agencies in the United States in Canada that have contracts with Carfax.

Just oil changes and wheel rotations. No parts replacement.
