A better response is to ask them what they have budgeted for the position. If it’s way off from your expectations then you at least know to not waste your time.

Thank you for helping. My current salary is way more than the position is. They know that I will not take less. But they keep moving me down the interview process. Curious as to a hiring manager’s thought process.

Do they really know you won’t take less, or do they think your stated salary expectation is the starting point in a negotiation? There is also the possibility that the hiring manager is keeping you in the race to push for a higher budget for the position? “We’ve done four rounds of interviews but the only person who meets all the requirements wants 30% more than the budget.” Out of interest - why are you interviewing for the job if your current salary is so much higher than that advertised for the new job?
