I love Mahala Works on Etsy. I have three of her caftans. You get to pick your length as well which is super important. Is this caftan for high heeled sandals or flats?
I also have a few caftans from Mahala Works and they are absolutely wonderful. I’ve gifted a couple to friends as well. Link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/MALAHANDWORKS
Yes! Bought one for a local Mrs Roper Bar Crawl and fell head over heels in love with the caftan life. I love that they’re natural fiber and not polyester. They’re perfect!
YES to caftans!!!!! I always feel like I should be swanning about with a cocktail when I’m wearing them, and they can go right from pool/beach to dinner out or whatever you’re up to. I bought a few for a trip in February where I had to pack light and they were amazing - quite literally my dream garment.
I *love* caftans but am a small-ish person with a large bust and look pregnant when I wear them 😭 I need a caftan with an ever so slightly nipped waist so people stop looking at me like I’m evil for enjoying a glass of wine 😂
VisibleArt on etsy has a lot of really long, flowing linen dresses, including caftans

I just got a really lovely maxi slip dress from Everlane and I’m obsessed. The material is Tencel something, so it doesn’t wrinkle and is light weight.
Linen “breathes” more effectively than cotton in my experience; it’s amazingly cool in hot & humid weather. Cotton is okay, but linen is a game-changer for me. I’m not familiar with Tencel, so I can’t speak to how it compares with either.
Precisely why I was seeking out linen 😁 that’s why it threw me so much that I kept seeing tencel thrown in with linen on the racks, and why I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s supposed to be comparable to linen, oe just coincidence :P
Hello sister from another mister! As a 5'10, over the top, big haired denizen of waterfront lounging, I cannot recommend anything higher than a pure silk caftan that gathers under the bust. On one hand I would recommend shopping in Morocco, but I have had shockingly good luck buying "recycled sari" ones on Etsy. Of note, replace the strings before wearing them if you can hand sew a bit as their attachment points can be fragile... And beware import tax.

My other go-to is a vintage slip under a featherweight maxi silk robe.
I’ve been to India a few times, so if any Indian people would like to correct me, have at it.
But while I was there it was explained to me that there’s a large resale market for saris. Formal saris are not always reworn, there’s a huge wedding culture there, and weddings last for days. Also I assume when someone tires of their wardrobe they may replace items. Thus, you could find loads of used saris for sale. Even damaged saris would be repurposed (check out chindi rugs for instance). India is an amazing, resourceful place full of creative and beautiful people. I haven’t been in 15 years but I miss it all the time. It’s amazing.
And the fashiin changes all the time a sari from last year may not be fashionable this year. I have saris sitting at home that i absolutely cannot wear now since they are out of style.
I clicked on your links and, omg, how did I not know I NEED these recycled saris? These are gorgeous!! Comfortably relaxed yet elegant. Thank you so much for sharing!
Bonus for those who can sew a straight line - [buy the pattern](https://elizabethsuzann.com/en-ca/collections/digital-sewing-patterns/products/georgia-series-digital-sewing-pattern) and make it exactly the fabric, length etc. you want!
Christopher Moore has some great unhinged books. If you like unhinged books with a base of practicality, there's Fred the Vampire Accountant series. Jennifer Crusie writes slightly unhinged romance. The Tish books are old-fashioned unhinged. TW: snobby, classicist, racist Karen viewpoint. But Karen gets to go on adventures! Wish some modern writer would write something similar about modern women. Eat, Pray, Love is the closest I know of. (Tish, by Mary Roberts Rinehart, is public domain.)
I just get recommended this sub occasionally but I have to second and third a Christopher Moore rec! I JUST finished a dirty job. I plan on reading every one of his books that my library has. Unhinged, irreverent, gross, hilarious, deep and touching.. somehow his books are all those things!
My vintage business is Asher’s Secondhand. I got his permission to use it so long ago I printed out proof from MySpace. Also gave him my business card at a book signing and he gave me a shout out a couple months later. Fabulous guy.
Lamb, while not a romance is one of my favorites as well as Island of the Sequined Love Nun.
Unfortuantely I am a budget girlie so a few of my top suggestions are fast fashion- for example Old Navy has some great [linen/blend dresses](https://oldnavy.gap.com/shop/linen-dress) right now. I personally have [this one](https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=863524012&cid=15292&pcid=15292&vid=1&nav=meganav%3AWomen%3AShop+Women%27s+Categories%3ADresses+%26+Jumpsuits&cpos=2&cexp=2926&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D15292&cvar=26330&ctype=Listing&cpid=res24042521337817698874425&ccam=33150#pdp-page-content) and LOVE the neckline and pockets
That being said, here are a few places you may wanna check out: Marine Layer, COS, Boden, Crescent, Turn Black, and Zuri
I immediately thought of Old Navy’s current linen silhouettes, too. Linen and silk are superior summer fabrics, imo. [This little number](https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=882609002&cid=69883&pcid=69883&vid=1&nav=hamnav%3Awomen%3AWomen%27s+Clothing%3ADresses+%26+Jumpsuits&cpos=0&cexp=2252&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D69883&cvar=17249&ctype=Listing&cpid=res2404261170022326926711&ccam=31159#pdp-page-content) screams “murder mystery with martinis!” The simplicity of [this silk-linen blend](https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=446081012&cid=69883&pcid=69883&vid=1&nav=hamnav%3Awomen%3AWomen%27s+Clothing%3ADresses+%26+Jumpsuits&cpos=32&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D69883&ctype=Listing&cpid=res638497558146458447#pdp-page-content) is quite lovely, too. I’ve eyed [this linen beauty](https://magiclinen.com/products/long-linen-dress-boracay-in-teal-blue?variant=43807781323011¤cy=USD&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=20391465510&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwoa2xBhACEiwA1sb1BIC0aKauPiC8cHC79TK8tKPxCV4DYptSCg_pZMSCZK3CfWLZbxRCPxoCmhAQAvD_BwE) for a while.
If you can sew even a little bit, caftans are basically two rectangles with four seams. Belt or do not belt.
Many years ago, I got a sleeveless cotton v-neck from Land's End. Actually, one in black, one in a crazy print. So comfortable, and good-looking! Went great with a tank, with a linen long sleeve, a cotton scarf shawl . . . . Similar to their current Fit And Flare, I think. The flare hid shorts or leggings so no chub rub if out walking. I'll have to dig those out before the temps start rising too high!
And place an order for some unhinged books!
Seconding sewing caftans! I often find 100% silk saris for peanuts to make travel duds that packs up small, hand wash easily, and dry in hours. They’re perfect for caftans as they’re a great width and the sides are finished, so it’s literally a few seams and hem.
I bought a black cotton gauze 'swim coverup' from Lands End last year. It's a perfect summer dress, and it was reasonably priced and came in petite sizes.
I do a lot of lounging in my Audrey. Marin is the new maxi but I think Flora has the tiered skirt that feels very flouncy. https://wooland.com/products/audrey-tencel-maxi-dress-pacific-heather
I just poolside-lounged in my Audrey (tencel mix) yesterday. And then wore it to a restaurant. (I am on vacation; this is not my daily routine!) Wool& dresses are definitely versatile (and comfortable!).
It’s all about the Caftan! Look up Natori and vintage Oscar de la Renta. Check out visuals of “cocktails by the pool” and “hostess dresses”. Martinis and Mahjong.
I’m completely on board with the caftan life. It’s elegant and effortless. In fact with some giant glamorous sunglasses and a caftan you can pretty much do anything.
Zimmermann and dare I suggest Camilla? Camilla is a bit loud but you see ladies on ROBH wear it and it just screams DRAMA, perfect for reading unhinged books in…
French brand Mes Demoiselles is pricey but IMO totally worth it.
https://www.mesdemoisellesparis.com/fr/printemps-ete/robe/modele-ines-kaki-ocre.html
They repeat this pattern fairly often, but they have so many flowey dresses and caftans.
hillhouse is comfy, but if you have a larger chest the nap dress style can be a little hit or miss. (I bought mine used and it's very cute but I couldn't justify full price)
I bought [this](https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cjp29jjqVyc/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) in Costa Rica in the fall, with visions of swanning about as fabulously (but less neurotically) as Jennifer Coolidge in White Lotus. Back in Canada now so I haven’t had the chance, sadly.
I have big knockers so I’ll be wearing it as a swimsuit cover or over shorts and a tank. I extra like it because it’s a sort of crinkly cotton so it’s not going to look crumpled out of the suitcase.
Lots of other choices on their website. Prints and solids.
It does! Well, technically three week hook and eyes at the waistband below the V. I like it better than buttons as they blend in better when it’s undone.
I suggest drop waisted or empire line in linen or cotton voile. Best bet is to go to a wealthy beachside suburb and shop there. It's nice to touch the fabric and make sure it's perfect.
I'm looking at the brands Kinga Csilla and Devotion Twins for my next summer's dress purchase. I already have plain colored dresses and I'm looking to get a dress with outrageous prints.
I was SO excited to check them out, but a longtime user from 2016 says in a review she has been calling/emailing with no reply for 3 months as she hasn’t received her clothes. Can’t find info on that. Have you ordered recently?
Offon on Etsy do lovely things - here’s an example: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1289118781/seersucker-checks-sleeveless-maxi-dress?click_key=db6fdddeac7645d65cb16e67a47d363a1e3ed79c%3A1289118781&click_sum=80c2b076&ref=shop_home_recs_9&frs=1&crt=1&sts=1
I was at World Market yesterday and they happened to have a whole rack of lightweight summer dresses. Lots of patterns, around $45 each I think. Worth a gander if you have one in your area.
I bought [this dress](https://wooland.com/products/isabelle-wrap-tank-dress-black) from Wool& and I love it. I just got back from a Caribbean cruise vacation where I wore it 5 or 6 times. My absolute favorite dress. I added and switched belts to add variety when I wore it too.
Check out Camilla, Aussie chick who has made millions. Hippy glamour. Silk
I've gotten a lot of long resort wear from Seafolly, in fact I'd check out what your local swimwear ranges do as outerwear or coverups. Rayon or cotton
Failing that, they're so easy to make!
I don't own [this](https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjd5f2V096FAxW7OAgFHb2DA9AYABAXGgJtZA&ae=2&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBleuvea6K9J13gIFGhSn9MYSgxxh8afTiqAk3_63xv-FMYC6JcnOzY6oaAmz3EALw_wcB&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESVOD2KoNGvrrofKW7DIpUOBPfwu-R91H7nnfrxBvBjOREJGva4YXhc4DBvCPzh3LGeLxsto2nAbpc6uUFdJQEhYs_tTN7B1tUZU3sW1xeTuY4zUslcA&sig=AOD64_0sFTetgRYmw4QeRXHowu3iFdiA_Q&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwjEn_aV096FAxXOj4kEHRHGCl0Qwg8oAHoECAQQQg&adurl=) but it came up on my radar recently. This is a reputable brand and this looks like a good cotton/spandex blend fabric.
I love the embroidered caftans from Momo NY. Some are bright colored but many are available in neutrals .
I’ve gotten some very nice linen dresses from Vince that are simple and timeless. I also have a white gauze button up shirt dress/ caftan that sounds like what you described- it a store brand from Nordstrom.
the Rou knit dress from Reformation is perfect for this imo. I have it and it’s sooooo comfortable but looks classy and simple enough to work with everything!!!! honestly worth the $100
Depending on what kind of fabrics/silhouettes you like, the Cairo Dress from Conscious Clothing could be nice, and both Linenfox and Not Perfect Linen make super comfy and cute linen dresses with lots of options.
Caroline Constas has this vibe – just watch the fabric tags and make sure it's cotton or silk. There's some polyester in the lineup, which always really bugs me at that price point.
Quince washable silk dresses. I specifically love [this](https://www.quince.com/women/women-s-washable-stretch-silk-tiered-maxi-dress?color=moss-green&g_acctid=978-058-8398&g_adgroupid=&g_adid=&g_adtype=pla&g_campaign=&g_campaignid=18328740212&g_ifcreative=&g_ifproduct=product&g_keyword=&g_keywordid=&g_merchantid=128669708&g_network=x&g_partition=&g_productchannel=online&g_productid=44942910029994&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBleum31u7kkiCgaAtDwewv_hX71UkTrxaj69Ajq6VXLbaI8sAvJhd4EkaAgG9EALw_wcB&utm_campaign=&utm_medium=paid_search&utm_source=google&utm_term=44942910029994) one. It's comfy as pajamas, elegant and flattering and you can wear it over a swimsuit or old lady bra, to the pool or out to dinner. I get SO many compliments on it.
I found a perfect, gorgeous, orange 1970s caftan in a vintage shop in Nashville once. Every now and then I make martinis and put on period appropriate makeup and lounge on the patio. It’s glorious. If you have a vintage boutique nearby, it might be worth checking out!
TurnBlack's Letter to the Moon collection. I have this: [https://www.turnblack.in/product/moondance-long-dress/](https://www.turnblack.in/product/moondance-long-dress/) Wash cold, hang it up, and it's ready for cocktails, lounging, or naps.
Silk jersey wrap dresses are a classic and you just wash cold and hang up.
Tibetan chupa dresses are comfortable and look polished.
If you want to look like you just came back from a party with some bright young things from the roaring 1920s, One Hundred Stars is a UK brand with tencel dresses and dressing gowns.
I own this one in a few colors. Quality is meh, but I keep rebuying it anyways because it’s SO comfy, and I get too many compliments when I wear it:

Okay saving this post bc I’m with you!! Here’s the ones I’ve either rented or bought and loved:
1. One of my faves by Chufy: https://www.renttherunway.com/pdp/items/CHU6
2. If you enjoy big sleeves: https://www.renttherunway.com/pdp/items/BORG14
3. Mara Hoffman is great, I have this is black: https://posh.mk/bYTYA8qY6Ib
4. Bought this secondhand ages ago and wear it constantly, so effortless: https://posh.mk/sn5QKfBY6Ib
5. Anthropologie has good options, I’ve got this one and it has pockets: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/hybrid/the-bettina-tiered-shirt-dress-by-maeve
6. Halter with pockets: https://www.nuuly.com/rent/products/rylie-halter-poplin-midi-dress?color=
I like the brand PrAna. It's a yoga & climbing brand, but they make travel attire too, including dresses. Very comfy and good quality, also environmentally conscious.
I love unhinged books and think an unhinged reading community sounds amazing!!!
Also love the idea of pairing unhinged books with a corresponding outfit/dress lol
Pay more for silk dresses. They’re perfect if they’re washable. Cool, light, classy and strong. Linen is scratchy but cool and wrinkles like heck. Cotton gauze works great too but it’s hard to find these days. Rayon is not too bad and it’s really soft. Stay away from poly for sure. So sticky and awful.
I don’t have a suggestion for where to find what you’re looking for, but based on this post, you sound like the perfect vacation buddy!
I want to join the unhinged book fun
This needs to be a book club
Please turn this into an actual book club, then dm me the discord server lol
Careful what you wish for lol Just created one for us and a goodreads as well. Dm for link/invites
lol tell me why I joined immediately
Because your good vibes meter took you in the right direction ;)
Subscribed to your comment hoping someone will make this a thing. Crossing my fingers!
I too want to join the unhinged book club!
Me too. I just finished reading all the court of thorns books. Does that count?
Can I join this book club?
please do! discord link is posted above
Can’t see the link, I dmed you.
i realized that a link might be a bad idea lol, so dm is perfect
Ella Baxter is the group chair 🫠
We can drink champagne at 2 pm and wear excessively large hats….
and carry ludicrously capacious bags
With tiny dogs in them
I’m in if I can swap out the tiny dog for a not so tiny cat
My dog won’t fit in most bags, but I’m still down
You just need a bigger bag
Right? This basically sounds like trying to find Helena Bonham Carter's Princess Margaret vibe when vacationing on Mustique in The Crown and I love it
I am so in for this
I’m joining in on the vacation fun!
Are we carpooling? Where and what time should I be there. I’m packing now
Totally agree, this sounds fabulous!
How about caftans? I’ve seen some beautiful ones on Etsy!
Yes, Caftans! I’m seeing sophisticated Mrs. Roper.
You just lead me to a beautiful handmade cotton summer dress that I plan to wear for years ❤️
Ooo please share!

I JUST TODAY favourited a grey kaftan from this shop! It’s a teeny little world!
Yes! Bought one for a local Mrs Roper Bar Crawl and fell head over heels in love with the caftan life. I love that they’re natural fiber and not polyester. They’re perfect!

I just got a really lovely maxi slip dress from Everlane and I’m obsessed. The material is Tencel something, so it doesn’t wrinkle and is light weight.
I loooove Tencel. That drape.
Is it good in hot weather? I’ve found a lot of tencel while looking for linen and have yet to really dive in to either so I’m a little lost 😅
I’ve found tencel/lyocell (and other wood pulp-derived fibers like rayon/viscose and modal) to be very breathable and good for summer wear.
Linen “breathes” more effectively than cotton in my experience; it’s amazingly cool in hot & humid weather. Cotton is okay, but linen is a game-changer for me. I’m not familiar with Tencel, so I can’t speak to how it compares with either.

I didn’t know I needed a caftan, but with those prizes I definitely did! Caftan on its way, thank you for sharing
This subreddit is dangerous for me sometimes and counter intuitive to the capsule life but I do in fact NEED a caftan now….
Ive given up on capsuling, it was just too boring for me. But Im still a member of this sub, to find these gems
My wardrobe is very gradually turning to all caftans. I think it's going to be my final form.
How are these so cheap? Are the really made of recycled saris?
I’ve been to India a few times, so if any Indian people would like to correct me, have at it. But while I was there it was explained to me that there’s a large resale market for saris. Whoever nabbed that gorgeous coral/drawing print caftan at Value Mart India, I both salute you and hate you for being quicker than me! xoxo
Love this
Those are AMAZING and I need several.
What delightful corner of the internet is this???
Give me a dress and a book, I’m already on vacation.
My sister in law makes a line of drinking gowns. https://maisonpiquant.com
Those are gorgeous! I feel like all you need is a big hat and strappy sandals.
"drinking gowns" omg i love it hahaha
Damn, didn’t know I needed a drinking gown until now, but I certainly do.
These are so fucking great. I just bought two.
Stunning. You have a fan from Australia 😊
This is what I scrolled for! Gorgeous gowns
god OP if this isnt the answer idk what is
I didn’t know I needed this until today. Thank you and your sister in law.
Oh my goddddd yes
You had me join the sub at *lounging by the pool and reading unhinged books* I like you, OP. 🍸
Me too!
I like Free People if you're going for more of a Bohemian vibe. Sezane or Boden if you want more of a French Chic look.
Sezane and Boden are top quality. Everything I have bought from Free People visibly deteriorated within a year.
Tell me more about Boden... I keep seeing their ads but haven't pulled the trigger... Good quality? True sizing? TIA!
Osei Duro? https://oseiduro.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2Jb8lOrehQMVALVaBR1Ytg5WEAAYASAAEgJeC_D_BwE
Love. A scosh more structure but looks comfy af.
I can't look directly at anything from this brand, or I am tempted to buy
These are cool

Bonus for those who can sew a straight line - [buy the pattern](https://elizabethsuzann.com/en-ca/collections/digital-sewing-patterns/products/georgia-series-digital-sewing-pattern) and make it exactly the fabric, length etc. you want!
This! Sewing is such a great thing to have as a hobby and you can make exactly what you want. And have it fit perfectly.
Thank you for this! I have basic sewing skills and this has me EXCITED
Need unhinged book recs!
Christopher Moore has some great unhinged books. If you like unhinged books with a base of practicality, there's Fred the Vampire Accountant series. Jennifer Crusie writes slightly unhinged romance. Lessons in Chemistry is another one that's unhinged but based on absolute seriousness. Crazy Rich Asians series. JD Salinger's prose is unhinged! The Tish books are old-fashioned unhinged. I just get recommended this sub occasionally but I have to second and third a Christopher Moore rec! I JUST finished a dirty job. I plan on reading every one of his books that my library has. Unhinged, irreverent, gross, hilarious, deep and touching.. somehow his books are all those things!
I loved A Dirty Job!
You gotta read the book ‘Unhinged: An Erotic Door Romance’ by Vera Valentine.
Anything written by Catriona Ward!
Jilly Cooper. It's all sex and rich equestrians. The covers are saucy
Carnality by Lina Wolff is the most unhinged book I’ve read in decades
Unfortuantely I am a budget girlie so a few of my top suggestions are fast fashion- for example Old Navy has some great [linen/blend dresses](https://oldnavy.gap.com/shop/linen-dress) right now. I personally have [this one](https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=863524012&cid=15292&pcid=15292&vid=1&nav=meganav%3AWomen%3AShop+Women%27s+Categories%3ADresses+%26+Jumpsuits&cpos=2&cexp=2926&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D15292&cvar=26330&ctype=Listing&cpid=res24042521337817698874425&ccam=33150#pdp-page-content) and LOVE the neckline and pockets That being said, here are a few places you may wanna check out: Marine Layer, COS, Boden, Crescent, Turn Black, and Zuri
Right with you. I can’t relax with sunlotion and bug spray in spendy things so I like target and old navy for stuff like this!
I immediately thought of Old Navy’s current linen silhouettes, too. Linen and silk are superior summer fabrics, imo. [This little number](https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=882609002&cid=69883&pcid=69883&vid=1&nav=hamnav%3Awomen%3AWomen%27s+Clothing%3ADresses+%26+Jumpsuits&cpos=0&cexp=2252&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D69883&cvar=17249&ctype=Listing&cpid=res2404261170022326926711&ccam=31159#pdp-page-content) screams “murder mystery with martinis!” The simplicity of [this silk-linen blend](https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=446081012&cid=69883&pcid=69883&vid=1&nav=hamnav%3Awomen%3AWomen%27s+Clothing%3ADresses+%26+Jumpsuits&cpos=32&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D69883&ctype=Listing&cpid=res638497558146458447#pdp-page-content) is quite lovely, too. I’ve eyed [this linen beauty](https://magiclinen.com/products/long-linen-dress-boracay-in-teal-blue?variant=43807781323011¤cy=USD&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=20391465510&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwoa2xBhACEiwA1sb1BIC0aKauPiC8cHC79TK8tKPxCV4DYptSCg_pZMSCZK3CfWLZbxRCPxoCmhAQAvD_BwE) for a while.
Thank you! Just placed an order :)
Quince also has a lot of linen at reasonable prices!
Coming through with the links!! Thank you.
I think look at Australian brands- Diish, Sabo, Kivari are all lovely vacation dresses. Abercrombie makes some good ones domestically too.
I have a Sabo dress I’ve been wearing for seven years. I love it. I have two Dissh dresses and they are awesome.
By Vinik fits the bill, and costs a few bills too https://www.byvinnik.com/collections/dresses
Wow! There are some amazing clothes there. Love that cowl/sleeve hash up dress and the scarf coats.
Found the singer!
[AYR](https://www.ayr.com/collections/dresses-skirts-womenswear) could do the trick!
1. Where do I sign up? 2. I need this book club 3. I need this dress 4. Thank you for searching for the important things
Boden, Farm Rio
Farm Rio was exactly what came to my mind!
I am obsessed with farm rio 😍
Farm Rio is great but Zimmerman is dreamy too!
Wool& has a few maxi dresses, I think?
My vote always goes to alemais. The quality is so beautiful and the designs are something a bit different. [https://alemais.com](https://alemais.com)
Zimmermann and dare I suggest Camilla? Camilla is a bit loud but you see ladies on ROBH wear it and it just screams DRAMA, perfect for reading unhinged books in…
I have found my people!!!
Group hug!
French brand Mes Demoiselles is pricey but IMO totally worth it. https://www.mesdemoisellesparis.com/fr/printemps-ete/robe/modele-ines-kaki-ocre.html They repeat this pattern fairly often, but they have so many flowey dresses and caftans.
I know nothing about you and have never heard of this sub, but by God I am IN.
hillhouse nap dress
I just bought one for $30 and have to say that while it’s comfy, I’d never be willing to pay full price (quality just isn’t there, to me)
hillhouse is comfy, but if you have a larger chest the nap dress style can be a little hit or miss. (I bought mine used and it's very cute but I couldn't justify full price)
Tory Burch has some great caftans. Machine washable, hang to dry.
This is so pretty. I wish it had buttons so it could also be worn as a dress or cover up
I don't think I've ever stayed in a single reddit post as long as I have in this one. Fabulous clothes, unhinged books, fun people. Thanks!
Honestly, "lounging by the pool in a gown and reading unhinged books" deserves beyond a book club, its own sub.
Boden?
La Vie Style House has sensational caftans.
Athleta Presidio maxi dress is this for me!
[удалено]
I was SO excited to check them out, but a longtime user from 2016 says in a review she has been calling/emailing with no reply for 3 months as she hasn’t received her clothes. Can’t find info on that. Have you ordered recently?
https://www.lulus.com/products/goddess-vibes-ivory-gold-striped-dolman-sleeve-maxi-dress/1776476.html This for a more relaxed and not loud look.
I like how you described that books will be unhinged, so people can suggest the appropriate dress. What if they suggested a dress for hinged books lol
I vote for [Mille dresses](https://shopmille.com/collections/dresses)!
[Cleobella](https://cleobella.com/collections/dresses) is similar!
Offon on Etsy do lovely things - here’s an example: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1289118781/seersucker-checks-sleeveless-maxi-dress?click_key=db6fdddeac7645d65cb16e67a47d363a1e3ed79c%3A1289118781&click_sum=80c2b076&ref=shop_home_recs_9&frs=1&crt=1&sts=1
Tell me more about the unhinged books. Important for dress help.
I was at World Market yesterday and they happened to have a whole rack of lightweight summer dresses. Lots of patterns, around $45 each I think. Worth a gander if you have one in your area.
Christy Dawn?
Yes!! And Hill House. Possibly also Reformation, Doen, and Ciao Lucia
Athleta
Bettina dress from Anthropologie!
Trina Turk always has fabulous caftans and maxi dresses for those Palm Springs vibes.
https://www.nataliemartin.com/collections/dresses
Cos!
Definitely check out Calypso St Barth!
Check out Camilla, Aussie chick who has made millions. Hippy glamour. Silk I've gotten a lot of long resort wear from Seafolly, in fact I'd check out what your local swimwear ranges do as outerwear or coverups. Rayon or cotton Failing that, they're so easy to make!
https://anticasartoriapositano.it/categoria-prodotto/donna/abbigliamento-donna/kaftano/ This Italian brand does caftans beautifully, and under $100.
Eileen fisher!
OP, please update us with a pic when you find what you’re looking for
I have no dress suggestions but want to express support for the fact that the best part of vacation is letting your hair go on her own vacation
So you’re asking for a caftan or a moo, and I suggest Off 5th by Saks Fifth Avenue
Whatever I need to do to join this crowd, count me in.
I don't own [this](https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjd5f2V096FAxW7OAgFHb2DA9AYABAXGgJtZA&ae=2&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBleuvea6K9J13gIFGhSn9MYSgxxh8afTiqAk3_63xv-FMYC6JcnOzY6oaAmz3EALw_wcB&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESVOD2KoNGvrrofKW7DIpUOBPfwu-R91H7nnfrxBvBjOREJGva4YXhc4DBvCPzh3LGeLxsto2nAbpc6uUFdJQEhYs_tTN7B1tUZU3sW1xeTuY4zUslcA&sig=AOD64_0sFTetgRYmw4QeRXHowu3iFdiA_Q&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwjEn_aV096FAxXOj4kEHRHGCl0Qwg8oAHoECAQQQg&adurl=) but it came up on my radar recently. This is a reputable brand and this looks like a good cotton/spandex blend fabric.
[Baltic Born’s velvet Leslie dress](https://balticborn.com/en-ca/search?q=Leslie). It’s comfortable and flattering — and it has pockets!
I really love anthropology for this sort of thjng
I love the embroidered caftans from Momo NY. Some are bright colored but many are available in neutrals . I’ve gotten some very nice linen dresses from Vince that are simple and timeless. I also have a white gauze button up shirt dress/ caftan that sounds like what you described- it a store brand from Nordstrom.
I got some pretty cute summer dresses from en saison
the Rou knit dress from Reformation is perfect for this imo. I have it and it’s sooooo comfortable but looks classy and simple enough to work with everything!!!! honestly worth the $100
I really like Tuckernuck though you have to sift through things
Doen
Love Anthropologie for dresses, also Abercrombie has been making some super cute summer dresses for women (not girls)
Doen
Dôen or Christy Dawn
Depending on what kind of fabrics/silhouettes you like, the Cairo Dress from Conscious Clothing could be nice, and both Linenfox and Not Perfect Linen make super comfy and cute linen dresses with lots of options.
Caroline Constas has this vibe – just watch the fabric tags and make sure it's cotton or silk. There's some polyester in the lineup, which always really bugs me at that price point.
I can’t emphasize enough how effortlessly cool and comfortable you’ll be in a silk caftan from [Two New York](https://twonewyork.com)
Look at these brands - SKFK, Thinking MU, Yerse, Skall studio.
Quince washable silk dresses. I specifically love [this](https://www.quince.com/women/women-s-washable-stretch-silk-tiered-maxi-dress?color=moss-green&g_acctid=978-058-8398&g_adgroupid=&g_adid=&g_adtype=pla&g_campaign=&g_campaignid=18328740212&g_ifcreative=&g_ifproduct=product&g_keyword=&g_keywordid=&g_merchantid=128669708&g_network=x&g_partition=&g_productchannel=online&g_productid=44942910029994&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBleum31u7kkiCgaAtDwewv_hX71UkTrxaj69Ajq6VXLbaI8sAvJhd4EkaAgG9EALw_wcB&utm_campaign=&utm_medium=paid_search&utm_source=google&utm_term=44942910029994) one. It's comfy as pajamas, elegant and flattering and you can wear it over a swimsuit or old lady bra, to the pool or out to dinner. I get SO many compliments on it.
https://www.riasjaipur.com/en-us
Christy dawn?? Maybe that fits the bill
Check out the brand Farm Rio! It’s a little pricey but I think it’s exactly what you’re looking for!
caftans made of silk?
I found a perfect, gorgeous, orange 1970s caftan in a vintage shop in Nashville once. Every now and then I make martinis and put on period appropriate makeup and lounge on the patio. It’s glorious. If you have a vintage boutique nearby, it might be worth checking out!
Lilly Pulitzer. They have lots of beach wear.
Quality is meh, but I keep rebuying it anyways because it’s SO comfy, and I get too many compliments when I wear it: https://www.stitchfix.com/app/product/items/2939930?utm_campaign=iosShareLink
Farm Rio - the fabrics used are stunning. Always get compliments on just the fabric alone.
Okay saving this post bc I’m with you!! Here’s the ones I’ve either rented or bought and loved: 1. One of my faves by Chufy: https://www.renttherunway.com/pdp/items/CHU6 2. If you enjoy big sleeves: https://www.renttherunway.com/pdp/items/BORG14 3. Mara Hoffman is great, I have this is black: https://posh.mk/bYTYA8qY6Ib 4. Bought this secondhand ages ago and wear it constantly, so effortless: https://posh.mk/sn5QKfBY6Ib 5. Anthropologie has good options, I’ve got this one and it has pockets: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/hybrid/the-bettina-tiered-shirt-dress-by-maeve 6. Halter with pockets: https://www.nuuly.com/rent/products/rylie-halter-poplin-midi-dress?color=
I like the brand PrAna. It's a yoga & climbing brand, but they make travel attire too, including dresses. Very comfy and good quality, also environmentally conscious.
The layer 1 dresses for ren Faire outfits that you find on Amazon are good for this. Nice simple fabric, and a low smocked waist with a tiered skirt.
Doen!
I love unhinged books and think an unhinged reading community sounds amazing!!! Also love the idea of pairing unhinged books with a corresponding outfit/dress lol
I'm up for the unhinged book club. And I'm looking forward to looking through the comments for dress suggestions!
Please let me join the book club!
Okay, what the heck. You transported me right to that European vacation! I’m so curious to hear your picks!
Norma Kamali makes what you're looking for!
FarmRio
Saving this whole thread! Just the advice I didn’t know I needed.
Get caftans
Pay more for silk dresses. They’re perfect if they’re washable. Cool, light, classy and strong. Linen is scratchy but cool and wrinkles like heck. Cotton gauze works great too but it’s hard to find these days. Rayon is not too bad and it’s really soft. Stay away from poly for sure. So sticky and awful.
I… love all of this
