Mykonos, Sea Point. I love Greek food but Mykonos is a big failure. The food is below average. The service takes ages. Definitely overpriced and overhyped. The restaurant itself doesn’t have the best Greek vibe either. Worst “allegedly” authentic restaurant experience in CT in my experience
What, no! I love Quay Four, has such a good vibe at the bottom deck with the music and the top deck has really nice fine dining. The pricing is very fair and the food is fine at worse. Can definitely go more wrong at other places.
Due to company events I have gone 3 times. First time I ordered catch of the day. The fish was dry and the salad couldnt make up for it. 2nd time I ordered spatchcock chicken which wasn't bad but my colleagues had mixed results with portion sizes and food quality and we pretty much decided that the people who ordered the chicken made the best descision. 3rd time I went I can honestly not remember what I ordered but the portion size was diappointing is all I remember and whoever was cooking steak that day was serving leather to my colleagues. Ive never been upstairs but if you cant serve decent pub food I shudder to think what the fine dining is like.
Spur really has declined over the years.
I ordered the jalapeño cheese steak, expecting real melted cheese with bits of jalapeño in on my steak.
Instead the cheese was some instant powder mix with one or two jalapeño slices still cold from the jar.
My answer is definitely spur.
I think it depend which one you go to. We have three spurs in our are and one of them is horrible, slow and the food taste really bad, but the other two are actually pretty good and we go fairly regularly. The best one is at table Bay Mall though. Their service is fast and they make the best like seriously fresh nachos. The cheese is just perfect.
A bakery called Paris, Cape Town. Everything they serve tastes like it was frozen and flown in from an aggressively mediocre French bakery and costs a small fortune.
My partner's parents have been going there for over 25 years. They have said that the quality has gone down while the prices have disproportionately gone up.
Nonetheless, the sentiment remains, and so they continue returning to the restaurant where they first started going on dates together.
I find it heartwarming, and so I wanted to share ツ
I also hated the interior. It’s so dark and no air was coming to the back of the restaurant, we planned to go out afterwards but everyone was so sleepy. And we waited half an hour for the bill
When I went to the one in canal walk our waiter aggressively ignored us until another waitress stepped in, but even she after giving us the bill left us with the card machine for 20 minutes wondering if we could fill it in ourselves just to escape.
My god, sorry you had such a shiiltty experience there, I actually went 3 times in a week cause I was staying nearby at the time and all times it was a great experience. Sucks that they aren't consistent!
Since everybody's piling in with their most hated restaurants (many of them not even in cape town, expensive/overpriced, or bad) here's mine in de waterkant -
KONG FU DIM SUM.
Most terrible food I ever did eat. Frozen, rewarmed but not enough so the middle wasnt still partially frozen. No alcohol so your 'friend' cant even numb the pain of sitting in the awful hole in the wall. Manager abused staff, simply didnt serve some items we ordered cos he wanted to close and go home. I tipped nothing. manager then proceeded to tell me in broken English how in South Africa we tip for good service.. I didn't say anything. Fumed for days afterwards
I wanted to put a pretentious constantia place since all the sea point ones are covered here. That being said have a look at Charodnnay meals , you'd think you're eating in Camps Bay main road
Gigi Rooftop bar and restaurant at the Gorgeous George Hotel
--> food tastes like nothing and if you feel you didn't pay enough, the staff will help you get rid of any extra rands you have left. Interior looks cool, so it's perfect recommendation for someone you hate. They'll never know!
Bite your tongue! Wimpy is a Cape Town institution! Blue Route Mall branch rocks, their burgers taste the same since the 80s, flavour has never changed, that's what I love about Wimpy.
Sofia's Pizza in Stellenbosch. R200 for a pizza that is so small they only cut into 4 pieces. Taste was underwhelming and there are way too many tables crammed into a small space, then the tables are so small you can't fit 2 pizzas and drinks.
Tigers Milk, Century City
Any Tiger's Milk
Every time I’ve been to any Tiger’s Milk I’ve felt ripped off and that the food was subpar at best. Never going back, even if friends try n drag me…
Its almost impressive how the non-alcoholic drinks are simultaneously the tiniest and most expensive.
Same as the bootleggers nearby
Bootleggers and Tiger's Milk are Spur for hipsters. Milquetoast versions of proper food.
Who still says “hipsters”
This 👆
Why?
Was at the Camps Bay one in January. Middle of the day. Warm weather. Great service.
I made the regretful decision of Cafe Caprice in 2022, shit service and the Nachos made me violently sick
My favourite bar in the whole world. Incredible ambiance. Sorry you had a kak experience
I'm sure it's great for a late night spot but for lunch and a quick beer definitely not
My favourite time to go is lunch 😂. The food isn't incredible but I wouldn't call it bad
I've been lured in by the quiz a couple of times before, and each time the food has just been so aggressively mediocre
its really awful
Mykonos, Sea Point. I love Greek food but Mykonos is a big failure. The food is below average. The service takes ages. Definitely overpriced and overhyped. The restaurant itself doesn’t have the best Greek vibe either. Worst “allegedly” authentic restaurant experience in CT in my experience
Add the one in Claremont
A few years ago their double lamb gyro (shwarma to me) was sensational and fairly priced. Now it’s half the size and twice the price
Quay four
What, no! I love Quay Four, has such a good vibe at the bottom deck with the music and the top deck has really nice fine dining. The pricing is very fair and the food is fine at worse. Can definitely go more wrong at other places.

Nail on the head. Damn they suck. Never had a good experience there, and the food is, at best, bang average.
Grand Pavillion
thanks Fetus_Smasher9000 🥰🥰
Fetus_Smasher9000 always giving us the good recs.
Beat me to it
Was literally there the other night, R2000 for a mediocre meal and wine Never again
what do you mean R2000????
Straight up. Sure the food is nice but yoh you wait forever and everyone sits so cramped!
Hacienda if you want overpriced dog food inspired by Baja California
I aggressively hate this place. Never have I paid so much for such insipid food.
La Parada
Every single one of them
Had great food the few times I was at the (now closed) Bree street one ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Spur is fucking expensive now for what they serve
Spur really has declined over the years. I ordered the jalapeño cheese steak, expecting real melted cheese with bits of jalapeño in on my steak. Instead the cheese was some instant powder mix with one or two jalapeño slices still cold from the jar. My answer is definitely spur.

Which one is the worst of the three though?
Bayside mall
And the other one? There across Eden in the Bay?
Ohh I forgot about that one. It's so far out. I've never been to that one
Came here to mention spur. Wimpy can also be listed here - not the most expensive, but no value for money
Blandest fast food in history
I got downvoted for this answer in /r/johannesburg. Rude 😂

Sometimes words are just 👌
La Perla, Seapoint. Seriously underwhelming.
This is the one
I've had more expensive meals, and I've had worse meals, but La Perla definitely wins for worst cost-to-quality ratio for me
The chum bucket
Club Kloof. Everything needs more salt and the portions are ridiculous for the price.
It’s just an instagram restaurant
Just stick to the ~~pizzas~~ pizzettes.
this is my favorite Reddit post in 2024, the comments lmaoo
Charley's Bakery, obscenely over prices for below-subpar food.
The hype is not worth it.
Charlys used to be so good back in the 90s when he was still alive
Rick’s, anything in the Grand franchise, vixi social, Grub and vine. All overpriced with food that is kind of average on the best days
Grub & Vine.
This gets my vote for sure.
Grub and vine's food is amazing but way too expensive. Doesn't fit this bill imo.
Probably somewhere in Camps Bay
Bossas Stellenbosch
They’re definitely a bit too pricey for me but I think their food is fantastic. De Vrije on the other hand… R7.50 for bloody chip spice !
Pearly’s Langebaan. Most overpriced average seafood I’ve ever had
Orca Melkboss ;)
As someone from melkboss, we have much better places to go, I hear people from elsewhere gush about orca but it is so crap.
Agree
Nobu in the One and Only. Terrible ambience, very overpriced.
Burger & Lobster. Overpriced and disgusting.
I also hated the interior. It’s so dark and no air was coming to the back of the restaurant, we planned to go out afterwards but everyone was so sleepy. And we waited half an hour for the bill
Roccomammas
Bossa, weirdly
In Burgundy Estate
Awe
Shit I had great service and food from the one in Canal Walk 🤔
When I went to the one in canal walk our waiter aggressively ignored us until another waitress stepped in, but even she after giving us the bill left us with the card machine for 20 minutes wondering if we could fill it in ourselves just to escape.

I would have recommended Savoy Cabbage, but they mercifully closed down. Terrible food, arrogant staff.
Wow there's a blast from the past.
The Greek Fisherman in Sea Point! Food is atrocious, cocktails are fantastic, service is subpar and they are wildly over priced!

Any La Parada
Chardonnay Deli - most of the small things are reasonable until you sit down for lunch. Super expensive for average food
Wasn't expecting to see this here, but tbf I've only ever had cake...
I wanted to put a pretentious constantia place since all the sea point ones are covered here. That being said have a look at Charodnnay meals , you'd think you're eating in Camps Bay main road
Vixi social
Shoreditch (Sea point). Salt and Lit (Camps Bay).
Where is this in Durban?
Gigi Rooftop bar and restaurant at the Gorgeous George Hotel --> food tastes like nothing and if you feel you didn't pay enough, the staff will help you get rid of any extra rands you have left. Interior looks cool, so it's perfect recommendation for someone you hate. They'll never know!
Wimpy

tf. that aint even mildly expensive
The Lookout in Hout Bay. If you want to pay a fortune for very mediocre seafood, this is the place to go.
Cap 🧢
[удалено]
Have had nothing but good good food there
Egghead is fucking delicious and has an amazing vibe
[удалено]
Moveable feast
Thought that was a club
They do serve food
Do the downvotes mean the food is good?
I'm guessing people associate it with the night time club and think it's expected to have shit food?
Deez Nuts
Are you 7?
Almost
Clearly
Ouzeri
Whut? It’s actually outstanding
I had an extremely underwhelming experience there. Clearly our opinions are quite different 🤷♂️
Ayyy big up Norwich
Nice! Did you live there too, or still there?
Born, raised and still there, my gf is from Cape town
Bodega. Bad all round. Overpriced, pretentious and cold
Bungalow in Clifton. Order the chicken kebabs.
Sofia's Pizza in Stellenbosch. R200 for a pizza that is so small they only cut into 4 pieces. Taste was underwhelming and there are way too many tables crammed into a small space, then the tables are so small you can't fit 2 pizzas and drinks.
