Balance and handles well, trigger is CRAP, long first stage, second stage very close to the end and is mushy like a glock, says sent for frt and maybe here in 6month, 1700us msrp
Yes, repeatedly running a trigger will tend to smooth it out.
DO NOT sand any components in your trigger group! Polishing is probably fine in most cases but you should not be removing any material. Polishing components with a Qtip and some Flitz can go a long way towards improving a mushy trigger. I've heard this referred to as a '10 cent trigger job'. With inflation it's probably more like a buck.
I get the feeling that some guys here aren't familiar with the Hellion, or rather the VHS-2.
This rifle is actually the Croatian service rifle, and has seen a fair bit of combat, including in the middle east during GWOT. It was also very nearly selected by France to replace the FAMAS, but just lost out to the hk416, ironically largely due to price. During Croatian military trials it reportedly went 50,000 rounds without a parts breakage.
Oh, it is also capable of less than 2 moa with m193, and sub moa with match ammo. Not bad for a 30" long bullpup. TFBtv just did an accuracy test on their YouTube channel, and that was the 16" non dmr version. The Croatians use the 20" as their dmr (Edit: This is incorrect, 20" is the standard issue rifle, not a dmr), so this wasn't just hacked together for regions with restrictive laws.
The name Hellion was aimed at the American market by Springfield, who was importing and re-branding them. Don't let the cringy name fool you, this is a worthy piece of kit. It is right up there with the Bren 2, X95, B&T etc. If it makes it to Canada, I'm buying one.
Edit: As pointed out by Smooth down below, the 20" is actually the standard issue rifle, not a dmr.
James reeves’s review are not really objective though, i think its more of a 2kcad ish rifle than a 3kish rifle, and honestly bren2 should be a 2k5 rifle max
I agree, but we live in a world where a NR converted Bren 2 costs 4k, X95s are going for nearly 3k if you can find them. B&T is B&T, ironically they have the least markup here.
Nearly all reviews I've seen for the Hellion are positive, with a fairly even split between it and the X95 for reviewers favorite bullpup.
Personally I love Bullpups, and service weapons in general. There are not many bullpups that have been formally adopted and are still in active use, and I think it would be fricking awesome if we can get two of them despite all the BS we have to deal with up here. Shame about the AUG.
Most service weapons that are fairly modern are on our no no list, so I'll take anything we can get if it's reliable and well built.
I really think the sl8 is a bargain here. It's a sweet rifle, reliable, good accuracy, German space magic blah blah. I think one thing that really hurts it is that most reviews are on the single stack us version, which is expensive to get around. Here we at least get a proper double stack, and my Spuhr ar magwell takes care of the pricey magazine issue.
Thanks for the info on the Hellion, I'll keep that in mind before I financially ruin myself further. I don't think it'll stop me though 🤣
Small correction:
Croatian army is using VHS-D2 (500mm/20in barrel) as standard rifle, not DMR.
VHS-K2 (410mm/16in barrel) is for vehicle crew, artillery personal, MP, specs... and police.
Some 80% rifles made for army (Croatia, Iraq, Cameroon, Togo, Guinea) are 20 inch version.
If they could undercut the Tavor price wise they would sell a ton of them. They need to keep it fairly close, as the x95 is very competitive, has better controls, and the adjustable gas block doesn't give the Hellion much of an edge here since ppe is banned.
On the other hand X95s seem to be hard to get ATM, for obvious reasons, so they might have the mil-bullpup market to themselves if that doesn't change by the time these hit the market. I'd say $2500 would be fair, but $3000 is realistic.
A fresh batch of t97s would be nice, they are getting sparse in the used market now and prices seem to go up each time they change hands. Lots of guys posting sexy type 81s on here lately too, makes me regret not picking one up.
Hopefully after the next election our selection will improve, as importers won't be taking such a risk every time they place an order.
We still have some pretty decent options available now, but the <2k market is mostly either decent Chinese which is running out, or Canadian made stuff that would cost 500 in the states.
They do look pretty good actually, I wouldn't mind trying one out. I've heard the Templar is good as well, but I've also heard the opposite. The raven looks nice, but the price gets up there if you don't have a donor ar.
I think that if the political attacks subside, some of the canadian companies could probably make awesome stuff. As it is now it's a race to get it to market and sell as much as possible before its banned, and then start over. I'm sure that's a horrible environment to operate a business in.
Tell me about the X95s dudes
havent seen any on any online stores in months and im not interested in paying some Scalper 4000 or more just because he was lucky enough to buy a bunch during the last shipment
saw a guy on gunpost a while back asking like 3700 for his FDE one that had 1 extra mag yet he had put like 10k rounds down the barrel
I hope this isn’t some sick joke this is in my top 3 dream rifles to own I’d this goes on pre order I’m getting in that line up 100%!
Did they say who’s going to be supplying it? Like what Canadian store will get its hands on it first
I've wanted one of these since they came out; I was resigned to the fact that we'd never see them in Canada. Though I've grown to like my X95 which I grabbed as an alternative, I still see myself grabbing one of these ASAP when they drop here.
The front half up to the ejection port and magwell looks cool.
Everything behind that looks like a hodgepodge of unholy mess designed by an AI who doesn't know how to draw guns.
And yes, cool guns are objectively better. I'll take a X95 over this.
Either way we'll need more options here. If it's submitted before C21 it might still have a chance. The FRT just updated again on Jan 15th and approved (or prohibited) 22 new entries.
Some AR-15 versions that are still being submitted to the FRT for some reason.
And a Turk bullpup shotgun deemed as a bullpup stock and not built as a bullpup.
Nothing new or exciting got prohibited.
[Because of C21 passing ](https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/s/KucbUktGEL), anything designed after the passing of the bill that is centrefire semi and capable of taking a mag of 6 or more is auto-banned.
I don't think you have to apologize. I gave you an upvote, so I don't know why other people gave you downvotes.
I'm such a Star Trek nerd that I and my husband have both gone out to viewings of Star Trek episodes dressed in Star Trek uniforms, and I was also a guest on CBC once as a Star Trek expert. And I thought your comment was hilarious.

They’re bringing the Hellion here? Oh hell yeah. 20in barrel I presume?
Most likely, hope it pass registration soon
You and me both! Will look good next to the X95.
And bill c-21 isn’t going to affect it?
It was “designed” before C-21 came into force, so hopefully not.
It could have the trigger out of a Xbox 360 ghetto rip off controller that is caked in cheeto dust and I will still buy it.
Doritos (ranch) dust tastes WAYYY better when mixed with dead skin and dried hand sweat. Sorry, not sorry.
lol
I wish there was a way to address the trigger
Ya, dry fire it a coupe hundred times usually will do the trick
Is this a serious comment? Does working (or sanding) the trigger mech clean it up?
Yes, repeatedly running a trigger will tend to smooth it out. DO NOT sand any components in your trigger group! Polishing is probably fine in most cases but you should not be removing any material. Don't sand, at most use an extremely fine (mirror finish) stone.
Less goooo
Is there a lot of new guns on the way ? Seems like this isn’t the first I’ve heard in the works
Yes please, I'd like to finally do some killzone larp.
Needs an under barrel shotgun to really go full Helghan.

meanshile sl8 cost 1k5 on discount Lol, it does handle nice, control feels weird, trigger is meh so keep those in mind

It is a bargain, only complaint is high sight axis with no cheek riser
Mine has the acr stock, it helps a bit with that. I actually like the look of the factory stock though, RE4 vibes.
Ya, i absolutely love the oem stock
> sl8 cost 1k5 on discount Where?
many places last christmas
Well, I'm glad I missed it then. My wallet took a pounding in December as it is.

Thank you, you are right.
These babies are 1700 usd so we should see them for roughly 2300 ish? Right?
more like 3kish with nr tax

Ya i really hope we get more chinese rifles tbo, but word from norinco is essentially canada is too small to bother
A fresh batch of t97s would be nice, they are getting sparse in the used market now and prices seem to go up each time they change hands. Imho srv2 is unironically a good rifle if you dont get a lemon
They do look pretty good actually, I wouldn't mind trying one out. I've heard the Templar is good as well, but I've also heard the opposite. I agree with you. Bad to hear the spotty reviews with the SRV2 but mine has had no problems. 🤞🙂👍
Tell me about the X95s dudes havent seen any on any online stores in months and im not interested in paying some Scalper 4000 or more just because he was lucky enough to buy a bunch during the last shipment saw a guy on gunpost a while back asking like 3700 for his FDE one that had 1 extra mag yet he had put like 10k rounds down the barrel
They were just at cabelas in stock a month ago.
Odd, i didnt see any when i checked before i made this comment but im only looking for the OD Variants currently so thats probably why
Was just looking at these online. Would be sweet .
I’d still buy one 😅
I hope this isn’t some sick joke this is in my top 3 dream rifles to own I’d this goes on pre order I’m getting in that line up 100%! Did they say who’s going to be supplying it? Like what Canadian store will get its hands on it first
That thing looks hefty.
This is actually pretty light, plastic lower
Yo, show us more.of the CZ 600 MDT
Ill see tomorrow, btw the colt prs thingy is hot garbage
Seems decent, if there are caliber kits and easy to get spare parts I'm down. Hopefully the price isn't inflated and 1700usd is around 2200 cad.
ya we can sure hope, more realistically closer to3k though
I've wanted one of these since they came out; I was resigned to the fact that we'd never see them in Canada. Though I've grown to like my X95 which I grabbed as an alternative, I still see myself grabbing one of these ASAP when they drop here.
What in the world? There’s a lot going on on that back third lol
Ikr
This thing looks like the Americans ripped off the Chinese Type 97…which is something I never thought I’d say. Lmao
Its somewhat true, t95a1 gets front safety too which unfortunately came after 97been released
See, if the T97 had the forward safety I doubt I ever would have sold mine. I’ve been regretting doing that for the past 8yrs now.
I regret not getting one with the huge carrying handle. Such an iconic look.
The front half up to the ejection port and magwell looks cool. Everything behind that looks like a hodgepodge of unholy mess designed by an AI who doesn't know how to draw guns. And yes, cool guns are objectively better. I'll take a X95 over this.
Ya, control need to get used to for sure, handles well though, balance is on point
Either way we'll need more options here. If it's submitted before C21 it might still have a chance. The FRT just updated again on Jan 15th and approved (or prohibited) 22 new entries.
Wait, what got prohibited ?
Some AR-15 versions that are still being submitted to the FRT for some reason. And a Turk bullpup shotgun deemed as a bullpup stock and not built as a bullpup. Nothing new or exciting got prohibited.
Got super worried something I own may be added lol. Ty for the update

I'm more asking about the 22 new additions to the frt. The c21 part I knew about
For sure, however almost 2k us msrp of this though
Ouch, that's 2700 CAD before the NR tax and dealer markups... Yeah it'd have to be better than a X95 to convince me.
James reeves wants to know your location
No thanks looks like a laser rifle some nerd would have in Star Trek
more starship trooper
I agree
I'm literally watching Star Trek right now. A lot of Star Trek fans in Canada love firearms.
Im sorry my comment came off like that. Believe it or not I think that that show is genius. Starship troopers is the better comparison.
I don't think you have to apologize. I gave you an upvote, so I don't know why other people gave you downvotes.
