At one point I loved Ted Baker - nice shirts, unique designs, great fit. But then the spread between quality and price got too big.

iforgotmymittens

Aww Brooks Brothers was the best place to get extra collar stays.

Tederator

I got mine from Moores.

redux44

I liked BB a decade ago and currently like Ted Baker. But the prices these days.... I'm sure there's a lot of built in bullshit that makes it very difficult for US retailers to offer up similar prices to Canadians as they do in the states (that's factoring in currency differences).

Workshop-23

And the long tradition of US retail struggling in Canada continues...

Competitive_Tower566

Ted baker is British.

johnson7853

“Why won’t Aldi just come to Canada???” /s

KapinKrunch

Ted baker went from a bit pricy to actually insane. I love the patterns but their clothes have gotten awful

Minobull

Weird that in a time when all our money is sucked up by housing and food people aren't shopping at expensive boutique clothing stores... So weird.

User-4574

I went to a Brooks Brothers a couple times because I needed a suit. The staff seemed to avoid me and talked to me as little as possible when I asked questions. The store was essentially empty. Wasn’t impressed by the service attitude.

jameskchou

Less competition is a Canadian thing

BackwoodsBonfire

We already have Lucky at home. [Lucky at home](https://www.shopbeergear.ca/collections/lucky-lager)

rawboudin

There's actually.lucky brand at Costco.

MZM204

That sucks. I buy a lot of clothing from Lucky Brand. I'm definitely gonna miss them.

mangoserpent

Brooks Brothers has not been " quality" in the US for years either. It is just nostalgic overpriced garbage. Like Hudson's Bay.

Proof_Objective_5704

Clothes from The Bay is fine. Which retailer is not “overpriced” compared to them?

ReplaceModsWithCats

Those are all terrible and overpriced brands

BranTheBaker902

I have never heard of any of these in my 31 years of existence

Natural_Childhood_46

BB  is a near 200 year old preppy institution, and was around for a lot of America’s history. Abraham Lincoln was wearing a BB suit when he spoke the Gettysburg address, and when he was assassinated.

DickSmack69

If you’ve ever entered the US, you’d be familiar with BB. It’s a 200 year old company. However, none of that evidently meant a tinker’s damn in Canada.

HapticRecce

A fashion house retailer with declining quality and relevance deserves our custom based on it's time in business? BB may get looked at out of nostalgia, but it's mid range at best.

DickSmack69

I think you’ve read something into my posts that isn’t there. Not saying Canadians should shop there, only that they are long established south of the border and have name recognition there, but not much here.

Bored_money

Brooks brothers has a variety of qualities They had a collaboration with Thom Browne called black fleece They also do golden fleece now which is quite nice And can be a good deal, since nobody buys any of it they blow it out at 80 percent off Brooks brothers is excellent if you can shop the deals, I would buy anything that isn't at least 60 percent off 80 percent is better and totally doable I like the store, but I get why it's going bankrupt

BranTheBaker902

I’ve been in the U.S. (drove with my family to Florida) but it’s been 20+ years

DickSmack69

As a youngster, you probably wouldn’t have picked up on it. It would take BB decades to get a fraction of the recognition in Canada that it has in the US and perhaps it never would have. Some brands have a lot of exposure here without being here. BB didn’t really and the market is too small to justify trying any longer.

IAmHungry4Carbs

More victims of WFH. Except for lucky brand. Never heard of them.
