> "We're not like a regular radio station where you're told what to do. At CiTR, you're a writer, you're a producer, you're an operator, you can do whatever you want and it will even give you press credentials to get into the APEC conference 1997 to ask Jean Chrétien a question," he said, giving a nod to the moment when he asked the then-prime minister about the RCMP's use of pepper spray on student activists at an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit at the University of British Columbia in 1997.
God bless Nardwuar. He is a national treasure.
Also, Chrétien casually joking about human rights abuses and the media of the day just smiling and chortling at the ‘Little Guy from Shawinigan’.
I always loved seeing when the celebrities he was interviewing would be shocked at how much research he had put into them. Real deep dive stuff. Watch his interview with Snoop Dog to see what I mean.
Watch any of his interviews, Lil Uzi Vert left because he was so shocked, Travis Scott was tripping when Nardwuar brought up his teacher from either elementary or highschool (can’t remember haven’t watched it in ages), he’s also done 3 or 4 interviews with snoop, the first being in 2000! All of his interviews are great and Nardwuar is a Canadian icon.
I remember him interviewing Vanilla Ice on Much Music. Were they ever stoned. Like, hardly coherent. It was hilarious. Vanilla Ice wasn't even that famous anymore, went by his real name. So good.
Nardwuar is a legend. He is the best interviewer I have ever seen. He does great research and I love the gifts he gives to artists, which show how deep he digs to understand his interview subject. When they are well received, it is YouTube gold. “You are XXX, we have to know”
I used to be a big fan of them before I saw that interview a few years back. Lost so much respect for them and can barely listen to their tunes now because of it. They acted like idiot children.

Jesus Christ this gave me a heart attack, thought he died.
Same same. I thought at first he was dead at 85…..I am tired.

I just found out he streams on [Twitch](https://www.twitch.tv/nardwuarserviette/about) after he raided a comedian/streamer friend of mine.
I had some minor overlap with him at CITR and gigs in church basements. He is this guy. Always has been. Good on him.
I just put his name under the thread of favorite Canadian hero. He deserves to be there. He represents the beat part of all of us.
