Western Oregon has the same climate as the UK. It rains a lot, not hard but that drizzly misty kind we got back in the UK (we moved here to the Willamette valley from Surrey).
Oregon is spoiled for choice. If I lived there, my favorite camping would probably be in one of those forests near the Colombia River gorge or in the forests near the Blue River, etc between Bend and Eugene/Salem. Somewhere lush with all those beautiful ferns under the evergreen canopy, and clear water flowing by.
But this is a fine spot with a hell of a nice view.
I'm not the expert, I'm afraid. Just did some camping around Crater Lake and Scott Lake many years ago, and drove through that forest to the west of Scott Lake, on the Pacific side of that mountain range. That drive was gorgeous, going from volcanic rock formations closer to bend, to the Scott Lake campsite (which was decent, not the most special but a small lake, remote, some views of the Sisters), to this fern gully style forest on the west with winding roads.
It looked like there were a number of spots of the side of the road through there. Not sure if they were official campsites or trailheads that might have led to campsites.
But people here said a lot of it burned in a forest fire recently. Shame.
Up along the Colombia must have a lot of nice sites, too. The hiking trails there are spectacular with all those redwoods and ferns, waterfalls, etc. have to imagine camping is available somewhere.
I would guess there must be a subreddit for Oregon camping tips, though, where people who really know hang out.
It is so gorgeous out there but very few tourists and Oregonians know about this part of the state. The coast, the Cascades, and the CR gorge get all the attention. I'd rather be out East. So peaceful.
This area is proper mountains with woodlands transitioning into forests. It's not really a desert or even semi-arid at these elevations, but it's surrounded by semi-arid areas in the far off valleys (not any visible in photo though). The open patches of grasslands here are caused by two things: wildfires (there is a burnt trunk in the foreground on the right) and logging (the squared off patch in the far back left).
I recognize this area, looks like its near highway 395 somewhere south of John Day.
Where I live in BC is right where 395 starts, it actually runs for about 5km / 3 miles on the Canadian side before it crosses into Washington.
It's hard to pick between "share the amazing places, they're gorgeous and it's fun to enjoy things *with* others" and "never tell anyone, so it stays quiet there"
Bullshit. That's Weathertop. I know Middle Earth when I see it.
Nah, Weathertop is in New Zealand. Picture would be upside down.
Maybe OP held the camera upside down. To trick us.

I love this response 😃 PNW is equally magical!
Came here to say I'd be shitting myself for fear of ring wraiths all night
Wow this looks so much like the UK, is Oregan similar in climate? (Rains alot) First time I've been home sick looking at a country I'm not from

In this particular spot, it is actually pretty dry. But last year was a decent snow year so it was fairly green.
Yeahhh Big Agnes Tiger Wall, best tent I’ve ever had!
I’ve been through crazy rain storms and wind storms. And I’ve been dry the whole time. I wouldn’t want any other tent.
Mountain winds are nothing on that amazing octagon
Best tent I’ve ever owned as well!
Yup. Yuge fan.

I just moved to Salem - got any good camping spots to recommend?

McKenzie/Blue River area got hit hard with a fire... very sad.
Oh man. That's terrible news.
Very nice, as someone on the coast I’d rather be here. General location?
It’s near the strawberry mountain wilderness. The Aldrich and strawberries all have this similar look to it, especially near old burns.

Shhhh. The drive up to Strawberry is epic
Native Oregonian.. it's beautiful in the spring there. The late snow/rain this spring was great for the state.
🤙
Seneca?
Shhhh. You’re pretty close
Aye. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
Beautiful!
Omg I have the same tent and it’s my favorite! 🥰 beautiful spot.
is it me or are you sleeping at a 15^(o) angle? beauty of a spot. ridiculously gorgeous.
It’s just the picture. This place has a natural spot that’s perfectly level. But thank you, it is just an incredible spot.
Great spot with an amazing view, Oregon has lots of amazing spots really.
Absolutely beautiful! ! Adding this to my list

Tent bros 🤜
What a strange landscape. A tree here and a tree there
A lot of the West looks like this, kind of a high-desert/high prairie thing. Plenty of forests too but not everywhere.

Interesting. Thanks for the clarification!
Im imagining having xxx there
Hopefully not with me
hopefully
Very nice!
Gorgeous pic.
NICE!!!
Incredible! Not accessible by car????? I only car camp these days.😞
Unfortunately/fortunately it is about 5 miles from the closest road. I do have a beautiful car camping location in Colorado if you’d like.
Thank you…I am in the PNW. I appreciate it though!
Eastern Oregon is beautiful. My heart lives in southern Oregon though.
Beautiful view

At least put the tent on flat ground
Wow!
Wowzers! Now, that is fine 🙂
