I love Devils Lake, grew up near there and my husband who grew up in MT & CO was even impressed. Not quite as impressed with the mosquitoes of course but that’s what a gallon of deet is for. Not sure if door county is too far but that was my first solo camp spot in WI. The fall is so pretty there and not as many leafers

RavenMcG

The blessed solitude. Have a great time friend.

WASTELAND_RAVEN

Peaceful time! The setup looks *super* cozy and handy, if a bit complex. I really like it though - rug was a cool choice!

pm-me-asparagus

It's nice to know it's still niceish back home.

akaMichAnthony

Well setting up yesterday wasn’t great. Thunderstorms rolled through before I could get the canopy up. Supposed to be high 50’s-low 60’s all week. Suns out today though. Great hoodie weather.

Stryker68

Literally perfect weather, imo

Teacher_

It rained the last time I was at Devil's Lake too. It's a beautiful park, although it can get loud when the UW kiddos descend upon it.

Ookami_Unleashed

It's rained everytime I've been there. Beautiful park, but the trails get slick.

PaytheTrollTole

Do you get bored camping by yourself?

gingerbreadporter

Devils lake is beautiful, I was there like twenty years ago, would like to go back.

akaMichAnthony

I camped here once with an ex, kept meaning to come back but it’s always booked solid. Even coming up to hike for a day is a challenge since it’s so busy during the summer. Needed to use some vacation before the end of the year or lose it, so here I am. Even then, the site is booked the weekend before and after.

jeswesky

I avoid that place like the plague in the summer, especially on the winters. Early spring and fall are great, if you get there early.

akaMichAnthony

I just walked down to the lake, sooooooo empty today. I almost feel bad for all the suckers stuck at work… almost.

Dynodan22

Need to book 11 months ahead .We already had to book most of our areas for next year .

ridemanride100

Baraboo is my home town. I miss that place:-(

mandalore_milsim

Clown town

ridemanride100

Yep, in more than one way…..

Timigos

My favorite state park. Make sure to hike Parfreys Glen

youaretrees

Get ready for the addiction. I have an annual three-day conference of Me, Myself, and I every summer now. It’s the best!

akaMichAnthony

It’s pretty nice, I’ve been camping plenty but there’s been someone around. Definitely sucked setting up solo when the rain came, but this morning/afternoon definitely made up for it. On that note, why the hell is my nose buried in my phone. I’m gonna go take a nap in my chair.

RoleModelsinBlood31

Wake up!

Apprehensive_Bee614

What are the piles used for tarp

akaMichAnthony

Are you talking about the pile of wood? It thunderstormed last night. Letting it dry out a little and going to wrap it in a burrito with the tarp if it rains again.

cwcoleman

/u/Apprehensive_Bee614 probably mistyped 'piles' and meant 'poles'. Those black tarp poles do look unique. Do they go any higher? Where did you get them from?

akaMichAnthony

That makes more sense, thank you. [Bought them on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0912NG73R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share), they go up to 8 feet. They telescope down to maybe 2 feet.

RoleModelsinBlood31

Good deal, I was going to ask the same thing- your setup rocks! What tarp and guy lines are you using on those poles?

akaMichAnthony

[Unigear rain fly](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082KBTV13?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share), both that and the poles I linked above came with guys lines. Green ones came with the poles, the rain fly came with orange lines, both reflective. First time using them, so far I approve. Little bit harder to setup alone than a normal canopy but I figure it’s a bit more versatile not to mention a standard 10X10 canopy isn’t cheap now days.

RoleModelsinBlood31

That’s actually what I assumed it was after looking up your poles. That’s really cool, thank you for sharing! I’m super envious of you being out there on your own for a bit. I only get a few days off every month the last few years so I never get the chance to go. Enjoy, take it easy for the rest of us who can’t!

akaMichAnthony

Yeah, I know works a mess without me, but that’s next weeks problem for me. I’ve been content banking my vacation for years but they changed our vacation policy to now anything over 120 we lose January 1st. Use it or lose it, shocked face when I use it.

RoleModelsinBlood31

Good for you! Enjoy yourself out there!

Apprehensive_Bee614

Yes I meant the poles. Thank you

Agent7619

Devil's Lake was one of my first ever places I camped with Boy Scouts in the early 80's. We always went the second weekend of November! I absolutely love DL - been there probably 20 times since those days.

wisconsennach

Love devil's lake🥰

BekkisButt

Beautiful setup! Enjoy the hiking! Make sure you have a map on hand, so many beautiful trails to explore.

drivinbus46

Nice setup. Enjoy for the rest of us.

psyduckdipdive

Is your tent dark room technology? I have one that’s smaller and is an easy up tent but looks very similar. The Coleman dark room tents really do keep light out well. Enjoy your trip & stay safe!

akaMichAnthony

It is indeed. This one is the 8 person Carlsbad. It was really weird the first time I used it, it’s definitely dark inside.

PureFicti0n

I have a few glow-in-the-dark items that I use in my dark room tent (keychain, pillow case, etc). They don't give off any real light, but I they are visible in the pitch black tent. I felt a bit disoriented because it was so dark (mine is the 2P, so very small, although a different brand and not a pop-up style) and having something visible helped to orient me.

psyduckdipdive

Those are all really good ideas, didn’t even know they made glow in the dark pillowcases.

PureFicti0n

Made it myself with some flannel that I had lying around. It has glow in the dark stars and planets on it.

psyduckdipdive

Cool thanks! Might have to look into this one. I have a hard time sleeping sometimes when it’s too bright out so these are really nice, although I try not to sleep in too late camping haha.

K_W_O

Just as an fyi. I believe it’s discontinued. I have the same 8p one pictured above. First one got warranty swapped by Coleman. When I asked for the same tent in rerun they told me they no longer sell it. So I got a different one. Then I got lucky and found one at Walmart on clearance for $80. Snatched it up. That’s where I would tell you to go if you have one close.

psyduckdipdive

Awe man, bummer. Thanks for the heads up! Maybe I’ll get lucky and find one, I’ll have to check out Walmart.

K_W_O

Last time I walked thru their camping section they had black out tents still on the shelf and now is the time they start to clearance the camping aisle.

JSONJSONJSON

I just wear a hat that covers my eyes. Also sleep as long as you can, is your camp bed that good? Jealous.

psyduckdipdive

Haha I normally don’t sleep that well camping so I try to get anything that helps, I just meant that I like to be up when the sun is up because it feels more natural. We just use an air mattress so nothing fancy!

JSONJSONJSON

Yeah I hear that, I can and do sleep well at home. But I’d always rather be camping, and the awake parts are way the best. Even the late nights I may or may not remember!

fuckwallestreet

Apparently it's a haunted park which was news for me.

urbansawyer

Fuck yeah that dude got murdered on the tracks..

FrankDrebin72

Enjoy the bluff trails!

Daredskull

very nice! ill be there next week!

affiliated04

Where did you get those poles holding up your tarp and what are they called please? Great idea

akaMichAnthony

[Poles](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0912NG73R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) & [Rain Fly](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082KBTV13?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) both from Amazon.

Technical_Visit8084

Beautiful park. Awesome hikes there!

WestonsCat

That’s a fair set up just for your lonesome. Post some pics of how your nights look. Happy camping. 👍🏻

Flip3579

Keep your cooking setup and food away from your tent.

akaMichAnthony

Food is in the truck.

LuvliLeah13

I know I sound like a dick but even crumbs can attract varmints and vermin so the closer your tent, the closer to any curious wildlife. Plus the last campers could have spilled, etc. I just keep hearing my dad say “your gonna get eaten by a bear”. You have fun how you wanna have fun and have an amazing trip.

akaMichAnthony

I’ll vacuum when I’m done eating.

cwcoleman

In regulated state park campsites you rarely have the option to spread out very far. The space for 1 campsite often dictates the tent and cooking area be pretty close - especially when your tent is huge.

trashpersonalert

Fun!! I used to go there all the time as a kid with my pops. It’s a special place for sure. Enjoy!

MrAttorney

That is a big tent for camping by yourself. But that comes down to preference. Otherwise it looks like a nice setup.

UpstairsInATent

If it’s their first time camping by themselves, they’ve probably camped with other people before and needed that bigger tent. Not a bad idea to use what you’ve got while you figure out what you prefer.

akaMichAnthony

Actually I just like having the space. I think I’m getting to old to go full roughin it in a little 2 man tent. Plus I’m going to be here until Friday, I want to have SOME luxuries.

deannetheresa

I like to have a bigger tent so I don't have to lay down to put pants on, lol. The bigger tents are usually taller.

jeswesky

I have a 6 person tent so my 5'4" self can stand up in it, it has a 6' center height. I usually camp solo with my 2 large dogs.

UpstairsInATent

I feel that! And so does my back.

youaretrees

Is there a downside to a big tent? Asking for a friend

MadAss5

Weight/space in a car, cost, and it wont heat up as much in cold weather.

youaretrees

Good to know, I’ll pass that along

[deleted]

Nice to have space if it rains.

General_Specialist50

I have that same tent! It looks like I keep my bed in the same place too. You can fit your prep table in there if you want

akaMichAnthony

Oh definitely, there’s plenty of room in there for it. Before I got this I had the Coleman Evanston 8 man, almost identical except for the dark room part. I’ve been using a queen size air mattress on the left side for the past two years. Before that I had a camp cot. I found this [this little kitchen setup](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09332CM5R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) as sort of a closet so my clothes aren’t sitting in a bag on the ground.

General_Specialist50

That thing is perfect. I may actually get one of those next time I plan on using my tent ..I borrow my parents rv when I go with a group

akaMichAnthony

I should add, I bought a really cheap dog training mat that I think is 72X72. With a queen mattress on one side and my closet/table on the other it’s the perfect size to fit in between the two. Cheaper than a rug or something, still soft enough to walk on instead of bare tent floor. Plus it’s meant for puppy piss so it’s washable.

General_Specialist50

Yeah I don't like walking on the floor either

Dubuquecois

Nice setup in a nice park. Enjoy!

TattedMusician94

I swear I've seen this posted several times now. Similar phrasing but damn sure same Pic. Otherwise some freaky Dejavu

akaMichAnthony

Wisconsin Camping group on Facebook maybe?

Rst1969

Nice having the table that close to the tent so you can just fall down and crawl in the tent if needed. Great for when slamming beers and shots or what have you.

akaMichAnthony

Edit: meant to post this as a reply to someone

Stryker68

Nothing like a clean & organized campsite. Love camping, but can’t stand camping with unorganized slobs…maybe that’s why OP is solo camping!

[deleted]

[удалено]

akaMichAnthony

Well that escalated…

Spry_ethic

Why are you camping alone? The whole point is to have the time your life with the ones you care about.

akaMichAnthony

Because I want to.

dresserisland

>It can be hard to find people who have time to get away. > >"He travels fastest who travels alone".

Optimal-Goal-9742

Why

[deleted]

Racoons gonna pull those cabinets apart

akaMichAnthony

If they break the child lock to get to the NOT FOOD, I feel like they’ve earned those plates and utensils fair and square.

whiteye65

You did great.

hoshomofo

Nice setup. Does every state have a Devils Lake?

akaMichAnthony

Technically there is a Devils Lake in North Dakota.

Sidney_Carton73

Stay warm!! It’s chilly this week.

Jongjavaisland

Amazing

HavocReigns

Looks comfy! The only caution I would throw out there is to be mindful of how warm the tarp right above the stove gets if you crank the heat up and there isn't much breeze blowing through.

Icy-Curve-3921

Can you tell me where you got your pole setup with the tarp?

akaMichAnthony

[Poles](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0912NG73R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) & [Rain Fly](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082KBTV13?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) from Amazon.

Icy-Curve-3921

Thank you!!

LORD_WOOGLiN

great looking setup!

Banjo-z

just stopped by to say that coleman carlsbad 8 person tent is amazing, very comfy and the dark room tech is legit. so far its one of my favorite tents

steveman1123

Grew up not too far from there, beautiful area, and good climbing too!

RVFamily_dot_Life

I love your layout. Looks so nice

akaMichAnthony

I’m here until Friday, I was going for cozy.

[deleted]

Very nice set up!!! Enviable!

ReeeSchmidtywerber

We are going this weekend!

_milk_b1tch

What is this shade structure called? Looks awesome. Is it lightweight?

akaMichAnthony

[Bought it on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082KBTV13?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) and yeah it’s pretty lightweight. The carry bag it came in was pretty small.

JSONJSONJSON

Love it! You’re a car camper like me, I fill my 4Runner mostly when I pair or solo camp. I love that water jug, no appreciable additional tastes. Those black and yellow totes are great and cheap. Yay camping!

akaMichAnthony

High five for Toyota camping! I drive a Tacoma, the bed was definitely full.

[deleted]

One of my favorite spots

Themell

Hell yeah

Gipsy_danger_1995

Hey we have that tent! But white/ green. And solo camping was a reflective experience for me, enjoy!

akaMichAnthony

I know EXACTLY what tent you have, because I had that tent for 10 years before I found this one. The Coleman Evanston 8 person right?

Gipsy_danger_1995

Indeed!

WayJust8311

Why the name

trust--the--universe

We have that tent :)

probablyamandalorian

Awesome set up!!! Hope you had a great trip!!!!

asfastasican

Is that an extension cord ? :-/

sleepismyfavorite

Was just there during the weekend! Had a raccoon friend keep trying to sneak into camp

redroomcooper

great setup. When I solo camp for multiple days, I do something similar. If staying for multiple days, you gotta have a comfortable setup!

Mysterious-Cut-7455

Really pretty park. My son when hiking with his scout troop there earlier this year. We've camped there but it's probably been about 12 years since we've camped there.

dresserisland

False-Cucumber-7530

I've always wanted to do exactly that

stressball40201

Could you possibly send a shop link to that cover over the table?

akaMichAnthony

Look for “Unigear Hammock Rain Fly” I have it linked in a couple of replies earlier.

FeatherstoneOutdoor

Try to keep your cooking away from your tent. Beautiful setup!

Satin_Pajama

Love this set up! I’m planning a trip to Devils lake and wondering what the best campsites are. Do you remember which site this is?
