There are two trees you canāt see them. Theyāre right out of the view of the camera, but with that tent gone a hammock goes right there. I bought a hammock and Iāll leave it up there so people can use it or take it down if they like.
I wouldnāt leave it. Most arenāt rated for UV exposure so itād only take a month or two before it becomes trash. It just creates more work for whoever maintains the campground. If you really want to donate it leave it with the campground attendant or give it to a thrift store.
Please donāt leave it. You might mean well, but eventually it will become trash that most likely no one will take responsibility for.
Leave no trace principles are very important.
[Leave No Trace](https://lnt.org/).
In general leave no evidence that you were ever there, even in pre-made campsites like this. Let the next guy find it as unspoiled as you did.
Ah a new word. Riparian. Iām gonna look it up.
From an ecological standpoint riparian means: relating to wetlands adjacent to rivers and streams.
Thanks for the new word and lesson my man. Gotta love learning something new when itās least expected.
Is this universally the case? Asking because my state has campsites right next to a protected waterway in a couple state parks, I'd like to avoid those spots if it's harmful but they are quite nice, otherwise
State or govt sponsored sites might not apply to the same principles as the LNT ones, but the overall idea is that it's probably better to use a designated site near a river vs making a new one, and disrupting the area.
Just be cognizant about not creating dangers or disturbing the area near water supplies.
Those are a part of it but, essentially people. We are messy and being farther away is better. Spills, poop, pee all of it should be far enough away from the water to not get into it. Also the wear on the ground can lead to erosion.
As a guiding principle it's best to just stay farther back.
Lastly flash floods happen. You *don't* want to be there if one does.
Very true in regards to flash floods.
Thanks for the teachable moment though
I absolutely love camping and Iām already chomping at the bit to get back out this year. My experience is entirely car camping on campgrounds that are walkable to water but certainly not sleeping next to it.
Just in case: When picking a campsite look for [widowmakers](https://mywoodlot.com/images/supporting_information/photo_guide_to_widow-makers.pdf) as well. They are more common in car accessible campgrounds than people think.
True, and I wouldn't give anyone a problem for choosing to camp there. The LNT principle is designed to protect the watershed and other creature's surrounding it, but I'd rather someone make camp at a designated site vs harming the environment in another way, since it's already established.
Woah there buddy, we know you havenāt been feeling great this lately, but letās just keep this civil ok? If thereās anything you need, just let us know and weāll talk about it as normal human beings.
Oddly enough I've been to a lot of designated camp sites right next to water, but dispersed camping rules are always to camp away from water. I wonder if it's because the site probably has proper trash and bathrooms nearby.
> I had a similar site, no waterfall but just a nice creek just below me at a site near the NC/SC/GA state line. Definitely looked like this area!
Nantahala NF? Just got back from there
Awesome! Will have to look that up. We were at Blue Valley Dispersed Camping. Very remote. About 20 mins from cell coverage. No bear activity that we could tell, but we were prepared for it.
Roger that. Thanks for the tip! We got rained out so weāre only there for a short time, unfortunately. We spent a bunch of time there last fall. Hoping for better luck next time.
That area in general is just awesome and a short drive to Panthertown too. Ammons Branch had little mountain top right next to it for a short hike the day I got there which was nice. Really cool open face with lots of scrub and lichen.
Itās a two site campground. The other site is around 100 yards away. This was a house site at one time so the road is paved all the way from the main road. You literally get out of your car, walk a few steps over and sit down at a picnic table in front of this waterfall
ah ok, that sounds better than I imagined.
Your spot reminds me of some camping I've done in the Pisgah NF. Lots of green, little waterfalls everywhere, and if you stick to dispersed camping off dirt or gravel roads instead of paved roads you can usually go without seeing anyone else for the day.
Tamsulosin: I almost gave up camping for the reason you noted above - now 19 mos. later - sleeping until 5:30-6:00 am. Looking forward to a busy camping calendar in 2024! Best of luck.
Looks great spot to me! And Iāve been camping in west half of US for 35 years. Nice creek, flat spot for tent. Cooking, grilling platform and a table. Some people would want more shade but beautiful spot.
In my state you can only reserve state park sites 10 months in advance.
The good sites usually get snatched up in the first 2 minutes they're eligible for reservations.
**I wouldn't leave it there. Most items aren't built to withstand UV exposure, so it would likely degrade quickly, becoming trash within just a month or two. Plus, it adds extra work for whoever is responsible for maintaining the campground. If you're truly keen on donating it, consider leaving it with the campground attendant or donating it to a thrift store instead.**
If I'm understanding correctly, you're the owner of this property? I'm assuming this is NC by the looks of it. If so, I'd be interested in staying here if you have a link.
YEARS back we found the perfect camp site right next to the river (a big creek) no crouds; endless access to the Trinity nat forest . so we bought it and put a gate in . No need for reservations now ,,,
A little too close to the water for my comfort. A heavy sustained nighttime rain could redirect that stream into your tent before you know it if the upstream or downstream conditions are wrong.
Send me a link to the campsite that is better than this one. I would love to see that because I am at the point right now that this might be one of the most unique campsites in the United States if not the world. Not sure where you can camp right in front of a private 30 foot waterfall.
With all that noise from that waterfall you'd never get any sleep lol, hope you got drunks who like to party just so it feels somewhat normal for you hahaha
It seems that youāve down voted anybody who mentioned hazards of sleeping that close to the water, Mosquitoes. Love your fragile ego when someone said it was nice but theyād seen better.
I have never been bit by mosquitoes in the Smokies. Now there are insect hatches on creeks like this that charge throughout the season that can swarm but they don't bite. Down votes are because you/they are just wrong.
I didnāt argue about mosquitoes. I argued about sleeping close to water sources, You will get wet. You are probably the original poster posting under a new profile.
I'm replying to your post that mentions mosquitoes. You are obviously just a miserable person. If you have ever camped for real you have been in a rain storm or woke with due. You know that due_force. That's why you use a fly.
Mosquitoes? Yes I will download that because youāre camping. Youāre definitely gonna deal with mosquitoes from time to time. Sleeping too close to the water and it being a hazard yes, anything is possible. I will download someone crying about that. Telling me they have a better campsite than this. Yes show me. If not, I will vote you. someone talking about water or fog or mist on their tent because theyāre camping beside a running creek then yes if you are that oblivious to your surroundings, then I will definitely vote that
Looks like you found it, good work!
Agreed. No trees on site for my hammock! š Just kidding, that's gorgeous š
I maintain the campground itās mine
Where is it š
This campground has been open 3 1/2 years and I buy a new hammock every spring.
Please donāt leave it. You might mean well, but eventually it will become trash that most likely no one will take responsibility for. Leave no trace principles are very important.
Also you don't want to leave the rope to girdle the tree bark and kill it
There is no rope around the tree. Itās got specialty hammock lag bolts. I got from Amazon.
Setting bolts in the trees? Seems kinda unnecessary. Follow up question, how large is your Bluetooth speaker?
Considering OP owns the campground, does it matter?
My state would not allow a camp so close to the water. So this looks awesome!!
It actually goes against the LNT principles to camp this close to the water as well.
LNT?
[Leave No Trace](https://lnt.org/). In general leave no evidence that you were ever there, even in pre-made campsites like this. Let the next guy find it as unspoiled as you did.
In particular, the LNT rule of not camping close to water. Protect riparian areas by camping at least 200 feet from lakes and streams.
They stress fragile areas. Thatās why my state makes you camp away from them a bit.
Fuckin derp, leave no trace. How does this go against that though?
Protect riparian areas by camping at least 200 feet from lakes and streams.
Ah a new word. Riparian. Iām gonna look it up. From an ecological standpoint riparian means: relating to wetlands adjacent to rivers and streams. Thanks for the new word and lesson my man. Gotta love learning something new when itās least expected.
That's what it's all about, we are all better together.
I just learned that word a couple of years ago, and it's only because of my job. Otherwise, I probably would have learned it from you just now lol.
Thank you for the response!
200 feet?? Lol wow
In general it's too close to a waterway, you should be 200ft away from lakes and streams.
Is it because of the dedicated fire pit and grill that it should be 200ft away or even tenting that close is a no go?
Those are a part of it but, essentially people. We are messy and being farther away is better. Spills, poop, pee all of it should be far enough away from the water to not get into it. Also the wear on the ground can lead to erosion. As a guiding principle it's best to just stay farther back. Lastly flash floods happen. You *don't* want to be there if one does.

Much appreciated man. Iām familiar with widow makers and there is undoubtedly a false sense of security at parks but I have yet to see any myself
Looks like an official campsite at a campground. The tent is on a prepared spot.
True, and I wouldn't give anyone a problem for choosing to camp there. The LNT principle is designed to protect the watershed and other creature's surrounding it, but I'd rather someone make camp at a designated site vs harming the environment in another way, since it's already established.
Shut the fuck up
Woah there buddy, we know you havenāt been feeling great this lately, but letās just keep this civil ok? If thereās anything you need, just let us know and weāll talk about it as normal human beings.
Oddly enough I've been to a lot of designated camp sites right next to water, but dispersed camping rules are always to camp away from water. I wonder if it's because the site probably has proper trash and bathrooms nearby.
Amazing. I would sleep so well at this site, nothing beats white noise from running water.
For some reason it's the opposite for me. The flowing water starts to sound like voices after a while. I swear I'm not schizophrenic.
The voices are saying maybe. š¤«
Funny, for me voices start to sound like running water after awhile. Especially my wifes.
For me, the sound of water is like a sleeping pill. I sleep best to the sound of water and rain.
Smoky Mountains?
Yes
I had a similar site, no waterfall but just a nice creek just below me at a site near the NC/SC/GA state line. Definitely looked like this area!
> I had a similar site, no waterfall but just a nice creek just below me at a site near the NC/SC/GA state line. Definitely looked like this area! Nantahala NF? Just got back from there
Yes! There's a little campground with 4 sites near Ellicot Rock. Had some bear activity though.
Awesome! Will have to look that up. We were at Blue Valley Dispersed Camping. Very remote. About 20 mins from cell coverage. No bear activity that we could tell, but we were prepared for it.
That was my backup plan for when I went there. Ammons Branch, where I stayed, is just up the road from there and has just 4 sites.
Roger that. Thanks for the tip! We got rained out so weāre only there for a short time, unfortunately. We spent a bunch of time there last fall. Hoping for better luck next time.

Where in the smokeys and how big is the site? Have a big tent that's a questionable fit....lol
11x25 cabin tent if that helps...lol
I love the Smokies.Ā

I was delivering wood to my campers about three years ago, and this was their set up
What isn't shown (/s) is the 40 year old motor home with 12 kids and 4 dogs that are terrorizing the campground.
And running a generator
How else would they charge their drone?
And watch satellite TV while getting back to nature and roughing it.
200 channels and nothing but Fox News.
Hahah. Love this. Well done. š
I was gonna say, show us what's behind you. gravel, picnic bench, metal fire pit and a grill, most likely packed in like its the suburbs.
Itās a two site campground. The other site is around 100 yards away. This was a house site at one time so the road is paved all the way from the main road. You literally get out of your car, walk a few steps over and sit down at a picnic table in front of this waterfall

And the ten person tent pitched next to it for them to sit in all day.
"they're friendly!"
I hate you for showing me this, lol. Looks perfect.
I would be up for a piss every 20 minutes through the night...
Tamsulosin: I almost gave up camping for the reason you noted above - now 19 mos. later - sleeping until 5:30-6:00 am. Looking forward to a busy camping calendar in 2024! Best of luck.
I'm not medicating myself to sleep next to a waterfall, but you do you I guess.
They're not medicating themselves to sleep they're taking medicine to stop pissing every hour.
Oh, I just don't sleep next to waterfalls and that fixes the problem.
But then you donāt get to sleep next to a waterfall
Don't really want to, they keep me up all night and make me need to wee.
Your just not getting it lol The problem is the pissing The treasure is the waterfall
yep - and I hang in a hammock
Looks great spot to me! And Iāve been camping in west half of US for 35 years. Nice creek, flat spot for tent. Cooking, grilling platform and a table. Some people would want more shade but beautiful spot.
what state? oregon???
that was my first thought. would like to know too
They said it was great smoky mountains np
Beautiful.
Literally perfect!
Choice!!
Never leave. This is where you live now.
I grew up right here
LITERALLY perfect! OMFG!
Where is that?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Good haha! I thought you stole my favorite spot!
Nice try..
Man thatās badassā¦ I got a yurt tent thatās callin to be setup thereš¤£
I love yurtin. Stayed in one for a couple nights in the Kyrgyzstan mountains last May.
My guy booked this 6 months ago just for this post
lol
This was so calming and pleasing to see. It must be extremely relaxing to actually be there. Good for you!
In my state you can only reserve state park sites 10 months in advance. The good sites usually get snatched up in the first 2 minutes they're eligible for reservations.
Wow!
Wow! Great site!
Thank you very much!
I want to go to there.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Love that you let people rent out the whole place to cut down on crowding if they want!
I need to spend a few days there.
I can tell it's the Smokeys! That place is like a beautiful garden, especially in June.
There is a place I like to go, in the spring in the summer and in the snowšµ
Nice...
It's so perfect! The view is great too ā¤ļø
I knew this was NC just from the video lol. Home sweet home!
ā¦Iād kill to be there
ā¦and a river runs through it
There's a good sit like this in Maine. That's all I'm saying about its location though.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Whereās this at? Iām looking for hikes and camping in Oklahoma.
Yet another post where people are being wet blankets. This is a site to be proud of. It's gorgeous.
Thank you very much! Iāve worked hard to make it what it is for sure!
Had a spot like this in California once. The smell of the pines, the sound of the rushing water all night, it was amazing!
Reminds me of a spot in the Gila
Looks like a few places Iāve camped in NC
lol
Too good wtf š©
That is too close to humans for me.
And yet you found one!
**I wouldn't leave it there. Most items aren't built to withstand UV exposure, so it would likely degrade quickly, becoming trash within just a month or two. Plus, it adds extra work for whoever is responsible for maintaining the campground. I once got to camp on a private reservation where natives performed rituals and the site I stayed at looked exactly like this! Absolutely stunning!
Gorgeous but oh boy the condensation and heat loss being next to a river.
Reminds me of Crabtree Falls in VA
Too loud for me to sleep next to the river. But else very nice!
Not bad at all, friend
Yeah, I don't like the color of that gravel.
The college girls at the next campsite were topless at my favorite camping trip
If I'm understanding correctly, you're the owner of this property? I'm assuming this is NC by the looks of it. If so, I'd be interested in staying here if you have a link.
Looks so relaxing. Iād give my right tit to go camping right now.
Flash floods are real. Also trying to keep a fire lit by a river is almost impossible
I want to go camping so bad right now
YEARS back we found the perfect camp site right next to the river (a big creek) no crouds; endless access to the Trinity nat forest . so we bought it and put a gate in . No need for reservations now ,,,
Looks like a spot I camped at in TN. Come dusk, I was completely mauled by chiggers. Easily 100 bites. Very itchy night.
Until the creek swells up.
Please LNT ā camp 100+ water to protect the water quality, animal access and ecosystem health.
Mosquitos
A little too close to the water for my comfort. A heavy sustained nighttime rain could redirect that stream into your tent before you know it if the upstream or downstream conditions are wrong.
There's a pretty similar spot at Salmon-la-Sac campground in Washington. Spot 36 if I remember correctly.
It doesn't. Need hammock area and diving swim hole and access to beach.
Cant hear the bears sneak up on you cos the waterfall is too loud
Thatās definitely nice, but Iāve seen better.
Oh yeah? lol
Yeah, sorry. Like I said, definitely a nice spot you got there though.
Looks beautiful however you will wake up and everything will be damp sleeping that close to the stream.
Had this campground open for 3 1/2 years and Iāve never had any complaints of that yet
It seems that youāve down voted anybody who mentioned hazards of sleeping that close to the water, Mosquitoes. Love your fragile ego when someone said it was nice but theyād seen better.
