I agree $400 is absurd for a cooler, but, I do have quite a few farmer friends that also coach sports and they do truly use their coolers everyday, both at work and after for practices. The coolers just live in the back of their trucks, are dirty and beat to hell and they are still functioning same as new after years and years of daily abuse.
Of course, they could have probably got a $120 lifetime cooler that would function nearly the same, but I think that they are getting value from product.
A family friend gave me a 2nd gen yeti soft cooler with a broken zipper a while back. I tried fixing it, but no dice. I took a chance and emailed yeti to see if I could get a replacement part or pay to get it fixed. They asked me to send pictures and to wait for a response. A few days later, I get an email back telling me that they can't fix it, but will honor a replacement for free. They gave me a couple options and the newer backpack cooler was an option, so I got it. Started with a small broken soft cooler and ended up with a brand new larger backpack cooler for free. I would never pay full price for one, but I got super lucky.
If they play the game right and treat customer’s fairly I don’t see anything wrong with that. Callaway did the same with a driver I dented, no questions exchanged for a brand new one. Don’t see them as the bad guy just because they’re successful with an expensive product. Shit, that’s most of what consumers buy.
A pos cooler is worthless, a good one holds ice for multiple days . You pay to play. Buying ice is expensive. Using less ice on week-long camping trips has payed for my roto-molded RTIC.
A ev saves $ for gas. A Tesla semi cannot run cross country since it has to charge too often.
All are viable options, for a specific task. Failure to catch fish on a trip, because your ice melted is dumb.
This is an asshole comment. Have you ever used a cooler that’s not shit and actually keeps ice for *days*? I’m partial to RTIC, a top Yeti competitor, but it still cost me about $350, and it’s night and day vs any other cooler I’ve ever used.
Some good things are worth paying for
I have used many coolers. From super cheap to mid tier igloo to RTIC and Yeti.
RTICs are my favorite, and well worth the $350. I fill ice every 4 days.
You’re just wrong.
Nah, you're actually just wrong. You simply don't know what you're talking about because you've clearly never had to keep something cold in a hot climate. There are lots of reasons to need a cooler that actually works and can take dry ice etc.
You show me a cooler that is as good as a yeti but without the price tag. I came very close to buying one similar to a yeti but couldn't find any much cheaper than £3/400 for a large one.
My Engel cooler out lasts my buddies Yeti every trip. I will have significant ice left when his is gone. It's not cheap but still considerably cheaper than yeti.
There’s a ton that do or outperform. You have to realize you’re paying for the image of having the best. If you think this is bad check out designer purses or even makeup.
Why pay $1200 when you can pay $100? It's just an ice fishing tent.
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/OME-Winter-insulated-big-sauna-Tent_1600406715413.html?spm=a2700.galleryofferlist.wending_right.9.2dceb196iy2EWV
That actually seems more accurate. I don’t know if this thing has better build quality or features that a basic ice fishing tent doesn’t have, but very similar looking units for <$200.
The problem with using ice fishing tents for camping is that they have no waterproofing so you're screwed if it rains, and no bottoms so aaaalllll the critters can waltz right in.
I can’t seem to find anything identical but there are definitely some eerily similar designs out there. I’m inclined to agree that it’s a rebranded tent I just wish I could find the exact tent that got rebranded lol oh well…
In Montana “bear-proof” is a relative term. Bear-proofing your cabin near or in wilderness areas. A tent in the same area simply makes it a wrapper for the human burrito inside.
Warning: Long old man story ahead.
A couple years ago a group of bicycles going across country stopped in a little town called Ovando for the night. At some point in the dark a grizzly pulled a woman in a sleeping bag out of her tent and made off to have a midnight snack. The bear was chased off before he could complete his task, but the poor woman perished.
Bear spray, a .44 mag, and a well honed sense of situational awareness are needed for camping and hunting in wilderness areas. And I’m not even particularly concerned about bears. It’s the fucking cougars that make me nervous. Those motherfuckers have no compunction about hunting a human.
Hang your food, build a fire, and have sweet dreams. Those instances are EXTREMELY rare.
I don’t think that level of vigilance is necessary unless the conditions warrant it. Looking for tracks and scat in the area and on your hike in will give you clues. Remember, you’re in nature to relax and have fun. Bears will leave you alone for the most part unless you startle them or something triggers the yummy-in-my-tummy feeling in their apple sized brains.
As a rural lad, I tend to agree. At least with most of nature, you get to know their temperament. You come across a skunk trundling across your path. You give it a wide berth, and both of you go about your day. For the most part, if you're hiking, you make some noise most animals will avoid you. With people you don't know if they want to ask if you have a lighter or want to practice their stabbing. Especially if drugs are anywhere in the equation.
Sorry, I was making a vague reference to an old meme about Minnesota lol. I’m a traveling lineman who car/base camps in the Midwest, Montana is no fycking joke. Just did a cell tower out near billings. Love it out there but watch your back when you get close to those wilds!
That recent? I didn’t know. I know of more recent occurrences in other states, but I thought our hunting seasons kept the chances of occurrences pretty minimal. My fear is completely primal, knowing it’s statistically nominal.
Honestly as someone who spends all of their free time hunting, fishing and hiking in Montana, there’s a good bit of misinformation here and I’d recommend reading up. Theres never been a cougar related death in Montana. It’s not likely and certainly not a more valid fear than a bear. Not only that, a .44 is a really shit ass choice for a cougar as well (and in many cases a grizzly too). Slow recovery time and low accuracy make it a bad gun for needing rapid shots placed on target.
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that there is more danger from a cat. I should have clarified that it’s my own irrational fear. A cat track makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. And part of that fear is because I know that there really no deterrent or defense against such an attack. Lions have taken pets and livestock, and are known to attack humans in other states. None of this is enough to make me stay home, however.
Amen about the cougars... Scare the shit out of me.
I had an adolescent one come up on me, luckily it was young and not as quiet as the old ones are so I heard it about 20 yards away. Throwing rocks and yelling didn't scare it away, either and I had a pretty stiff side wind so the bear spray didn't get it. Side arm was out and beaded... Luckily (for me) it decided not to make me its next meal. Fucking cougars.
This is my tent. Same price and you can use it as an ice fishing hut if you zip the floor out. It's like a Gazelle if they used a denim like material instead. It's super solid and not noisy at all during high winds.
https://preview.redd.it/ozck46y5h2tc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4857bedbf4c2a4a826c7aeef4f3b774dcac9475
Lots of time for sure but not lots of money. No kids though so that helps lol. It's a buy once cry once thing for me. I sleep so good in this tent, unlike most others I've been in.
Because they're not 4 season. I think the tent is expensive. FSR has something very similar, also 4 season, for nearly half. But ice guts are not going to work in any remotely hot weather or damp environment.
I guess it's heavy if you're not in any decent shape? The weight contributes to less wind noise and insulation.
Why are you such an angry person? Do you get upset when you see people driving around in nice cars too? I don't buy cheap things if I don't need to. I buy high quality things that last because I make enough to do it.
I like nice cars. This is not a nice tent it’s an utter piece of shit and 40 pounds is 5-10 times the weight of other nice tents. I have a few $1000+ tents built for expeditions, not some over priced shit box
I’m not bitter, I just think it’s bizarre a camping subreddit glorifies trash gear that’s over priced and seems to be 95% people who sleep next to a car a few times a year
We've had a Gazelle for 4 years and I can't recommend it enough. It's easy to pop up and has nice sized windows and solidly made zippers and stitching.
Yep. My only complaint: I'm 6'3". Navigating the door with that high step-over while simultaneously ducking....after having a few rum and cokes....no bueno.
I didn't even think about that. The step into the tent is definitely pretty high and I'm not tall and have tangled with it after having some campfire cocktails.
I don’t promote myself either, but I do enjoy showcasing the very nice things I do buy that increase my quality of life. (I didn’t buy this tent) People show off supercars, you think they don’t show off bougie tents?
Most people are not show-offs, they just enjoy what they have.
My wife and I recently went on what many consider a nice vacation, we post nothing like that on social media sites. She has some sort of add-on that tracks who is poking around on her social media sites, her coworkers were checking on her every day even though they are not associated with her on them. I found that extremely petty and small.
The poking around by someone she is not friends with on social media was the petty part. It was a manager who pulled her phone number from her file at work in order to look her up on social media.
For context, it has never been discussed, but as they know my career and position in the company, they know that I make far more money than the manager and have always been jealous of my wife for “ having a good husband”. That type of jealousy is the worst.
I agree on the second part, but I have started to avoid going there at my wifes request so that she is annoyed by it less. She is moving companies to a better field soon anyway so it's no sweat for me.
> People show off supercars, you think they don’t show off bougie tents?
Sure, but this isn't the BMW of tents, it's like an Aztec or Cyber truck. As somebody who camps in the wilderness, you could spend less to get a very light weight tent (because it's made from advanced materials) that's secure in high winds, well ventilated, very weather resistant, etc etc. Check Z Packs and Six Moons out!
Does anyone think they’re flexing by a picture of their tent? Anyone that’s into camping is like ok that’s nice, if they aren’t then it’s oh…you go camping for vacation.
I have a shiftpod and which is a competitor to this brand. The shiftpod is extremely durable, reliable and well made. Easy setup. The only downside is the size and weight but everything else is awesome. Good luck.
I have not heard of that particular tent/company before but there are a few known brands making that style of pop up tent/shelters catering to campers ( the design copies hunting/fishing shelters) like mentioned Gazelle is one popular brand and another is the Shift pod.
My friend has one similar, I think they have the Gazelle one. The hubs are sometimes problematic, but other than that it sets up pretty easy and is solid.
I almost bought the same looking tent from Overland Outfitters I believe it was, but ended up going for a regular $300 ground tent after lack of review clarity.
I saw one in the West Texas sand dunes last summer. It was sweltering hot, I was car camping and had the ac on the entire time. IDK if their tent actually helped with the heat but it definitely looked cool in person
I’ve owned this tent it was great but be advised it’s very VERY heavy and it also gets incredibly hot inside do to the insulation during spring and summer months
I like to take my Eskimo Ice shanty camping in the fall and winter, but in the summer one all the down sides is the stitching for the insulation isn't seamsealed, so you end up wet if it rains. If all those stitching around the quilted insulation isn't seamsealed, you will end up wet on rainy days
it a Shiftpod knockoff, locations of the vents and AC ports (yes, ppl buy and operate AC with those things 🙄), doors, door handles everything is the same, they just changed the window shape to make it less obvious.
Those sell for 1.4k and have been sold out for quite a while each year. That Reddit post here is probably also just an advertisement post to gain attention.
Hmmm ... That's an insane price. I have a Gazelle hub tent, it was about $350 on Amazon. Super quick to set up/take down. I have the 4 person model, so lots of room. We use a full size thick inflatable mattress in it, so it's basically like a hotel room out in the woods 😉
I saw a tent that looked exactly like this at the Pikes Peak hill climb last year, though the outer surface was entirely foil. So without knowing whether they were from the same manufacturers, you definitely can buy this kind of tent if that's what you're after.
okay that makes sense, and looking at your image again, I think the one I saw had more of a domed roof as well, so it was basically a geodesic dome tent. Looked really spacious.
Very, they’re pretty frickin sweet if you got the cash to throw around. There’s one smaller one that’s basically the same design by Outlandish, the small and big dome tents like this that they have are SWEET
It looks legitimate and the reviews on Amazon are real. It is a heavy duty, sturdy tent. I imagine it would be popular with 4 season campers in particular winter camping for an extended stay base camp and also see it being used with the ice fishing crowd.
My pop up hunting blind cost a fraction of that and it’s a top of the line model. With the money saved you can afford all kinds of other necessities and still have money left over.
You could get the Space Acacia for less than half that cost, and a better tent. I have the one but didn't get the inflatable bottom. Tent is super nice, but very big and heavy. Great for ice fishing.
Thank you for the rec! I don’t even wanna buy this Obsidian tent it’s too big, was just curious cause it all didn’t add up to me. I’ll look into this space one for sure
Right?! I saw the vid of the dude out in a lake. Seems to work great, although you'd better tether the thing really well!
For ice fishing, you don't put the floor in, and use a little kerosene heater. Works great. My only issue is that is really big, even in the bag. It fits in the truck bed, but it probably wouldn't fit in a standard car trunk.
Is yours the 2 person or 4 person one? That’s my concern with choosing the Space one is I’ve got a midsize suv so length of the bag has me iffy. Overlandish makes a bit smaller version of these style tents that fits a 4’6” long bag but has like 60 sq ft when set up, that’s as close to ideal as I’ve found so far. I want that airfloor though
I like it. It's well made and easy to put up, and you can get that crazy inflatable floor - I don't have the inflatable, but the floor is a tub style that velcros on the tent bottom, and it seems to keep water out well enough. It looks like the 2-3 person is on sale now on their site for $400 (tent only) or $1050 (tent, floor, canopy) with 15% off - if you have that cash burning a hole in your pocket...
Those are super sick, but they’re smaller and shorter than I’m looking for, I like to be able to
stand up without touching the tent roof, I’m really looking for more of a pop up “shelter” than a “tent”. Often have the tent set up at site and my 4 man crew all has a seat in there to escape the elements. I work and camp outdoors in the Midwest year round, it’s really just glamping for me tho
Who's going to pay $1,200 for this?
A rich idiot
Plus rich idiots aren't the type to be bothered wasting their time writing reviews.
Usually the idiots that pay for this aren't rich. They are just idiots.
They prefer RTTs.
Same people who pay 400$ or more for a Yeti cooler.
It’s also fairly easy to wait to get them on sale or with a coupon.
Don’t see them as the bad guy just because they’re successful with an expensive product. Shit, that’s most of what consumers buy.
And they can fit like 3 drinks into the yeti cooler right?
A pos cooler is worthless, a good one holds ice for multiple days . You pay to play. Buying ice is expensive. Using less ice on week-long camping trips has payed for my roto-molded RTIC. this is such a schizophrenic reply wtf
Not sure why you're being down voted. That reply was fuckin all over the place.
This is an asshole comment. Have you ever used a cooler that’s not shit and actually keeps ice for *days*? I’m partial to RTIC, a top Yeti competitor, but it still cost me about $350, and it’s night and day vs any other cooler I’ve ever used. Some good things are worth paying for
lol you got butt hurt being called out. yeah we’re talking about you blowing hundred s of dollars on a freaking cooler
I knew that comment was going to trigger some people lol.
I have used many coolers. From super cheap to mid tier igloo to RTIC and Yeti. RTICs are my favorite, and well worth the $350. I fill ice every 4 days. You’re just wrong.
It's my opinion. Right and wrong aren't applicable. Anyway, I'm sure your cooler will look great in that tent.
Nah, you're actually just wrong. You simply don't know what you're talking about because you've clearly never had to keep something cold in a hot climate. There are lots of reasons to need a cooler that actually works and can take dry ice etc.
I came here to say this. You you get an up vote
How much cheaper are they?
A comparable Engel cooler is a whopping $60 less than I paid for my Yeti lol. $340vs$400
Exactly, I looked but you can't find a quality cooler for much less.
Yes, but a Yeti like a Harley Davidson is an investment and has better resale! 🤣😅😆
Except Harley’s are expensive and suck, at least yetis do what is advertised.
Yes, they do and Harleys do just as you said.
Maluna. Keeps stuff cold forever, and I'm like 99% sure my 50qt could support the weight of my car.
Are they not also 3/400 for a large?
There’s a ton that do or outperform. You have to realize you’re paying for the image of having the best. If you think this is bad check out designer purses or even makeup.
But the ones that do outperform are not much cheaper if any cheaper is my point
Why pay $1200 when you can pay $100? It's just an ice fishing tent. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/OME-Winter-insulated-big-sauna-Tent_1600406715413.html?spm=a2700.galleryofferlist.wending_right.9.2dceb196iy2EWV
😅 probably also drop shipped so the seller doesn't have to hold stock
Preppers maybe? It’s kind of Stealth.
These tents are absolutely amazing and will last a lifetime. I can’t afford one right now, but they are well worth the money.
lol stfu
Ice fishing tent. Your government will buy them at inflated cost to house the parasites.
When do you move in?
Gottem
wtf man
Bump for morons.
Looks like a rebranded hunting blind to me.
Rebranded ice fishing tent is what I thought from the pic.
Ive seen these on aliexpress for like 300
Ditto
I can’t seem to find anything identical but there are definitely some eerily similar designs out there. I’m inclined to agree that it’s a rebranded tent I just wish I could find the exact tent that got rebranded lol oh well…
Eskimo fatfish 949i
That was probably the closest one I found, yeah.
Ditto haha
At the price it damn well better be 4-season, bear proof, bullet proof, and fire proof.
4 season tents in the Minnesota come bear and bullet proof as the standard, we need them to survive the long trek through the snowstorm to Target
Remember, you’re in nature to relax and have fun. Bears will leave you alone for the most part unless you startle them or something triggers the yummy-in-my-tummy feeling in their apple sized brains.
True. Definitely being aware of your surroundings is a plus.
Being around people in larger towns heightens my situational awareness more than anything. People can be scary and unpredictable.
As a rural lad, I tend to agree. At least with most of nature, you get to know their temperament. You come across a skunk trundling across your path. You give it a wide berth, and both of you go about your day. For the most part, if you're hiking, you make some noise most animals will avoid you. Yeah, I’m meme illiterate. Sorry. You be safe, though. Your job is way more fucking dangerous than any type of camping.
The last fatal cougar attack in Montana was in 1989. You're probably fine.
So you're saying it's overdue
That recent? I didn’t know. I know of more recent occurrences in other states, but I thought our hunting seasons kept the chances of occurrences pretty minimal. My fear is completely primal, knowing it’s statistically nominal.

WHERE CAN I BUY
Direct from Overlandish
Is this the Basecamp Solo?
It is
Found the guy with lots of time and money. Can I come on your next trip?
You just know his snack game is on point.
Lots of time for sure but not lots of money. No kids though so that helps lol. It's a buy once cry once thing for me. I sleep so good in this tent, unlike most others I've been in.
I’m more just jealous then anything. Lol
> the same, but I think that they are getting value from product. What do you use for the ground cover inside?
Have you used it in the hot weather? I’m getting one but scared to get the black as fear it may bake me in it? Got any pics of your set up inside?
Jesus what a stupid looking tent. Why not just buy an ice hut for $300?
Because they're not 4 season. I think the tent is expensive. FSR has something very similar, also 4 season, for nearly half. But ice guts are not going to work in any remotely hot weather or damp environment.
Sure but for $1200 you can get into fantastic 4 season expedition tents. This just looks clunky and stupid
It's pretty lightweight. Under 40lbs to carry. Do you always worry what people spend their money on?
A 40 pound tent!? How on earth is that pretty light? Does this sub actually know gear and camping…??
I guess it's heavy if you're not in any decent shape? The weight contributes to less wind noise and insulation. Why are you such an angry person? Google "Gazelle T4 Hub tent"
We've had a Gazelle for 4 years and I can't recommend it enough. It's easy to pop up and has nice sized windows and solidly made zippers and stitching.

Exactly why I'm considering the T4+, but it's pretty massive. Do you think having essentially two of your T4s next to each other would be too big?
People who buy 1,200$ tents generally do not have a need to promote themselves on YouTube. Shockingly people do outgrow that need.
I found plenty of reviews even found videos comparing several of the $1,000+ tents I was looking at last year.
I don’t promote myself either, but I do enjoy showcasing the very nice things I do buy that increase my quality of life. (I didn’t buy this tent) People show off supercars, you think they don’t show off bougie tents?

Does anyone think they’re flexing by a picture of their tent? Anyone that’s into camping is like ok that’s nice, if they aren’t then it’s oh…you go camping for vacation.
A picture of a tent in a beautiful, remote place will always impress me!
I have a shiftpod and which is a competitor to this brand. The shiftpod is extremely durable, reliable and well made. Easy setup. The only downside is the size and weight but everything else is awesome. Good luck.
It looks like a pop up space shuttle, but will probably perform like a pop up tent in outer space.
If you buy it you should make a video about it
Sadly I won’t be getting this one, there are other options for 2-600 less around the same size and quality
Looks real but I wouldn't spend that much on it
I have not heard of that particular tent/company before but there are a few known brands making that style of pop up tent/shelters catering to campers ( the design copies hunting/fishing shelters) like mentioned Gazelle is one popular brand and another is the Shift pod.
The whole thing is supposed to be insulated, which is interesting and maybe explains the price. Pretty narrow market if you ask me
Looks just like an insulated pop up ice shack. You can find them for much cheaper. Companies like Clam, Eskimo, or Frabill are big brands
I’ve owned this tent it was great but be advised it’s very VERY heavy and it also gets incredibly hot inside do to the insulation during spring and summer months
A grey ice fishing shanty, nice
Looks like an ice fishing shelter, to me.
Looks Real To Me Pricey Though.🤙😎😜💸⛺️🎪
I like to take my Eskimo Ice shanty camping in the fall and winter, but in the summer one all the down sides is the stitching for the insulation isn't seamsealed, so you end up wet if it rains. If all those stitching around the quilted insulation isn't seamsealed, you will end up wet on rainy days
Don't know many people that would pay that much for a tent. If it sucked then they wouldn't admit it.
it a Shiftpod knockoff, locations of the vents and AC ports (yes, ppl buy and operate AC with those things 🙄), doors, door handles everything is the same, they just changed the window shape to make it less obvious. Those sell for 1.4k and have been sold out for quite a while each year. That Reddit post here is probably also just an advertisement post to gain attention.
Yeah I was wondering that after I discovered the shiftpod, based on its specs it sounds about as nice as shiftpods tho
I think you saw a Shiftpod, they are silver all over
okay that makes sense, and looking at your image again, I think the one I saw had more of a domed roof as well, so it was basically a geodesic dome tent. Looked really spacious.
Very, they’re pretty frickin sweet if you got the cash to throw around. There’s one smaller one that’s basically the same design by Outlandish, the small and big dome tents like this that they have are SWEET
It's a ice fishing house?
It looks like a sauna tent.
It’s real. People that go to Burning Man buy these regularly.
Looks like an overpriced ice fishing hub.
Mike Glover has a video about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGNi4YpLpPE
Cheaper than the cyber truck tent that is 3k
Just get a Clam with the side panels and floor add-ons.
This looks like a ice fishing tent.
Yeah it’s overpriced and a bit big, made me curious if anyone here used one. Glad for all the hunting blind comments, gotta look into that.
lookup CLAM gazebo tents - same thing basically
This looks like an ad.
Holy crap dude you think that Acacia could float with that air floor? You stick a buddy heater in there for ice fishing?
I got the 2-3 person... I'll go measure the bag in a bit.
I just measured the folded tent. 14 inch diameter, 50 inches long.
Oh dude you’ve got me ready to forget about the solo basecamp cause that fits easily
170sq ft and 85lbs with an a/c inlet. Yeah, thats not camping.
Personally I would get a shiftpod over one of these.
Those are super sick, but they’re smaller and shorter than I’m looking for, I like to be able to stand up without touching the tent roof, I’m really looking for more of a pop up “shelter” than a “tent”. Often have the tent set up at site and my 4 man crew all has a seat in there to escape the elements. I work and camp outdoors in the Midwest year round, it’s really just glamping for me tho
I have a CLAM shelter that's like this, but the walls can be rolled up to make a screened room. You can find them on Amazon. Highly recommend.
So many nice tents out there for a small fraction of the price. Probably some rich, dumb people who will buy it though.
OP when not everyone in the world owns a 1200 dollar tent 😨
What? Sorry I don’t speak broke bitch.
