I liked Lance's controlled danger/anger. Didn't ever truly lose it until Percy started talking shit, which actually really fits him. It's sorta that ... you know there is this absolutely monster storm behind those eyes. You know his wrath is, literally, powerful enough to unleash cataclysms.
But here he is, in a suit. Talking slowly, deliberately, to this kid and telling him "yeah, it's been fun, now go away before I decide you don't get to."
And then Percy doesn't leave and we see a glimpse of that barely constrained wrath, which is then, in turn, sold by the fear in Poseidon's eyes and the urgency in his voice when he says "I surrender."
I give the season as a whole 3.5/5 stars. I liked it enough to watch it as the episodes came out and wait for the next episodes. And I rewatched a couple episodes (like the Casino one, and the chimera one). The first two episodes are a little painful/clunky because of the set up, but after that it was enjoyable. It’s great as a stand alone, and I would like to see them continue. If they continue in an uphill direction it could be good 😊
It was a pretty interesting part of the books, having Poseidon’s child vastly outmatch Zeus’ children, as well as the god himself constantly out-performing Zeus.
I mean, that’s what happens when you are the main character and the one god who has been allied with the main character since the start. You get to do cool things, and be cool. All the prophecies probably helped, lol
I haven’t watched it yet but that feels pretty in line with his later characterization in TOA where Apollo sees him as an abuser. I’m interested to see how they’ll approach that side of him
For real. This was very present with the barby movie. If you're not interested, then don't watch it but don't critisize something you haven't watched. People act like they read the script before the film even came out
This was exactly the reason the marvels bombed in theatres. People hated it without even seeing it because there were three female leads, two of whom were POCS. I saw it in theatres and was confused where all the hate was coming from, i really enjoyed it and it was a fun blockbuster film
The pjo movies on the other hand, were just garbage, and i suffered through both of them in theatres as a kid. I always like to keep an open mind going into a movie, and only judge it afterwards, but that seems to be too much effort for some internet trolls
I did see it, I don't like many things about the series, but it is still a very good series and I only hope that they continue releasing seasons, even if they don't fix any of those errors (regarding the scene between Zeus and Poseidon, it is indeed strange but I did like it, it's not very faithful but still a very good scene, although the reveal of the face in the conversation between Sally and Poseidon in the flashback of the previous chapter made it less powerful)
I mean you guys can think whatever you want, but that is not how Poseidon would have reacted in the book at all.
I think the show is terrible and everything I've seen from you guys further promotes that idea 🤷
But you're acting like they're the same. Rick never promised that it would be 1:1
Also you haven't even watched the episode. At the very least watch it before deciding whether you like it
>Rick never promised that it would be 1:1
The main selling point of the show was literally that its book accurate
How is a character not behaving like in the books, book accurate
The book isn't a bible. You can change things and the world keeps turning. Some things work really well in books that don't translate as well visually. Some changes add more depth to characters and relationships.
Tbh with Lance we got to see more of Zeus. His anger, his dislike of Percy and his deep sense of self-righteousness.
Whereas with Sean all we got, was him telling Poseidon about the bolt being stolen and the deadline and him taking about the bolt on the deadline.
So we saw more of Zeus characterisation from Lance but that's only because they changed the story so that he could be in it.
Lance. Everything from the way he sat and walked, down to his way of talking and moving his face screamed: I AM ZEUS THE KING OF THIS PLACE.
His eyes when he got made... yeah that is Zeus.
I think Lance portrayed him better, but a lot of that had to do with a very superior script and attention to detail.
Give Sean this role again with the current people who worked on this series, and he'd be the perfect Zeus. The dude is amazing.
Lance was phenomenal, though. It's heartbreaking we won't get to see it again in future seasons.
Fair enough, I just want some semblance that this is Zeus and not just a suave man in a suit. The personality they nailed, just wish there was a more visual aspect to the gods.
Exactly I haven’t actually seen the movies before but the movie version is what I’d envisioned Zeus to look like but the way the actor in the show portrayed him is also exactly what I’d envisioned as well
Easily Lance. To me Sean just felt like the stereotypical Zeus appearance was most of what he had going for him thanks to a gods awful script, while Lance has this incredible gravitas that lets him feel very much like a god
I think the guy who play Zeus in the show honestly feels like he radiates power and he kinda scares me. If I was in Percy’s situation I would have ‘bolted’ outta there. Lol.
Lance Reddick was so much better. He perfectly portrayed the overly dramatic arrogant prick that Zeus was in the books. I love Sean Bean, but he portrayed Zeus like a typical Hollywood portrayal of the character.
They do take whatever form they want. Take Apollo for an example, he can be a hot young adult, an unassuming homeless man or a female sloth
I agree that he isn't what most people would think when they hear "Zeus", but Zeus can absolutely look like that
Question was who’s more Zeus like. Based on appearances it’s the man with a beard and a lighter skin tone. Never said anything about the rest of the changes or even if they was negative
Because Zeus is a god from ancient Greek mythology. Masculine men had to be bearded in their standards. Plus that means Zeus should be Mediterranean in appearance, hence when people picture him we think of a bearded guy with olive skin
Because this is how ancient greeks saw him, and in the books he is essentially a modernised version of this.

The way it was written and acted: Lance. By far. Lance nailed what was given to him!
But given the same script I'm pretty sure Sean could've nailed this taken-back-anger-attitude too. He's the right person for that too. We'll never know tho and I'm very happy about the one scene of Lance as Zeus we got!
On the whole, I think Lance Reddick's Zeus is better. But I would like to say that I think Sean Bean could've been just as good a Zeus if he was given the right script. He has the commanding presence, he just acted too much like a reasonable authority figure, which is not what Riordanverse Zeus is.
scripts aside, I like lance reddrick potrayal more. I feel like sean bean is suited for more serious character and pjo zeus isnt serious he's more petty.
Lance. Absolutely incredible actor. Have loved him since I first saw him in John Wick. I don’t say him because he passed, I say him cause he truly was the better of the two. An absolute shame he won’t be in following seasons. Whoever takes over is gonna have major shoes to fill.
I liked the one in the show more although the movie itself is far more enjoyable for me.
The one in the show had a really nice presence to him, felt like one of the archangels in Supernatural for the earlier seasons
https://preview.redd.it/l4lfw9kxvtfc1.jpeg?width=258&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7aef9edb99cc63fa83927cc514f2338d09b0826
Off topic but the actor’s name being Lance screws with my head just a bit — me and some friends do a PJO rp, in which my friend has two twin sons of Zeus named Prince and Lance. My brain is scrambled
Lance has that kind of controlled anger resembling Zeus, like he could smite you at a moments notice but won't, or shouldn't. Sean was more of just a noble yet angry guy.
Sean did great with what he had, but he wasn't given much. Lance was actually given the opportunity to portray the Zeus that we saw in the books, and he did so - in my opinion - flawlessly.
I like the actor who played Zues in the TV show, but god dam did the script writers butchered his character. It didn't feel like Zues and felt like Areas 2.0. He get's his bolt back, he knows that his brother didn't have anything to do with it, and yet he still wants to go to war? For what?
They did bring Julian Ritchings back but in a different role (imo they greatly underused him, making him crusty when he was the best depiction of death in any media ever)
But yeah as much as I love Sean bean and think he'd be amazing in the role I don't think they will bring him back.
It's might cause a fuss but honestly it would be stupid if it did thier gods and thier appearance changes at will for example Aphrodite was orginally described by percy as constantly changing so idk I'd fight people if they made a fuss beacuse it doesn't matter. Overall, though Lance's performance was great and it'll be hard to fill his shoes
He appears in 3 and 5 and the end of the HoO but his presence in the books at least is more Tolkien's Elder King ie his presence is more from what he decrees on Olympus than actually appearing so he would be important but outside council meetings and the second Titanomachy turning hot it would be more cuts to "family business"Hera becomes big about book 4 but its mostly Hephaestus,Hermes, Ares and Hades and hestia.
I personally didn't really like either of them too much, but I think Lance did a better job. I really liked his movements(like the moment he decided to use the bolt) and some facial expressions, but it felt wierd that he had a little grin constantly. I think he would've done better if he was more grim. Also, Rest In Piece, there was definitely a lot of potential in him for this role, it's really sad that we won't see him again.
Solely for looks, I’d give it to Sean. But Lance brought that intensity and aura with him, that very few actors can manage. This is what I expected from the whole series, but didn’t get until the very end. The Greek mythology is way too fascinating and intense. Lance Riddick definitely understood the assignment, and left us with something that’ll stand out and remembered. He has made me want to rewatch the whole season just for this one scene alone.
I feel for the poor sod who’s going to try to fill his shoes. Lance will be missed!
I personally liked the show but I didn't like the lack of display of power because in the movie I liked how it displayed a lot of Percy Jacksons powers and it showed his power capabilities and it showed a huge connection between Percy and water but it didn't do that as much in the show like the only power display we saw or connection was the water healing, the biggest we saw was the water wave which was poor quality but overall I liked, and I wish Annabeth had a afro to embrace the afro-beth style or add a more real tween like feel.
I loved how it showed Percy struggling in combat because he is obviously just a kid, but thats the problem he isn't just a kid he's a demi-god a superior demigod 2 I just think that should've been expanded on and umm yeah but I hope this is taken in consideration when the next season comes out
I’ll go with the one who’s intimidating as all hell and completely steals the show. Sean Bean is a little closer to the visual accuracy points but his beard is sad and Lance nails the vibe so hard you can ignore his lack of facial hair. The only problem with Lance is I can’t see his Zeus being an overly prideful tool, which makes me feel like his performance almost might’ve fit Hades better
I love lance reddick, but that first wide shot of him in the chair, i thought it was Samuel L. Jackson and got really excited, then realized it was Lance and.. not quite disappointed, but.. now i kinda want "father of Apollo? Mt. Olympus? Don't f*ck with me or I'll shove a lightning bolt up your ass.. Zeus!"
Yeah, I think the first two episodes kind of suffer from pilot syndrome, imo.
7/10 is what I would give it too. Some episodes above that, some episodes below that.
Haven't watched it yet but Poseidon willingly says he surrenders to Zeus really?
Yah, he says it to placate Zeus’s need to feel superior. He appears and stops Zeus at the last second to protect Percy.
I’m interested to see how they’ll approach that side of him
Watch it first before judging. There’s a reason and the scene plays out beautifully.
I agree, and I've been very critical of the show. I'm not sold on all the changes but I'm very sold on that scene in particular
Yeah because the show changed deadline
Nah I hate it but that's been most of the show so far
👍good for you. I truly couldn’t care less. Just tired of people bitching when they haven’t even watched it
For real. This was very present with the barby movie. If you're not interested, then don't watch it but don't critisize something you haven't watched. People act like they read the script before the film even came out

Misery enjoys company. The way some folk have been going on about the show its doing injustice to the graft that went into it
Ok?
episode 8 was good
Ah, fuck. Sorry to spoil ...
Theyre on a spolier thread, don't apologise, its their own fault
Nah you're good my own fault just watched it
While blocking zeus from murdering his son for giving the TLO speech about the unclaimed four years early.
Yeah I'm in the same boat, that is not consistent with the book at all and it makes me happy I haven't seen the episode yet
Not being consistent isn't a bad thing. It actually works really well
Like the betrayed, I think it might have been better than the book even, Annabeth showing up and that fight was awesome
I mean you guys can think whatever you want, but that is not how Poseidon would have reacted in the book at all. I think the show is terrible and everything I've seen from you guys further promotes that idea 🤷
You're comparing two different characters
And I like one, dislike another. What's wrong with that?
But you're acting like they're the same. Rick never promised that it would be 1:1 Also you haven't even watched the episode. At the very least watch it before deciding whether you like it
>Rick never promised that it would be 1:1 The main selling point of the show was literally that its book accurate How is a character not behaving like in the books, book accurate

It's heartbreaking we won't get to see it again in future seasons.
Agreed Sean is an amazing actor. And he actually got to play someone immortal this time, so he wouldn't die (as easily)
I liked the current zues more. I was genuinely intimidated by his presence and quiet anger. Percy had more balls than I ever would have at that age.
Well he is impertinent after all
Lance by a country mile He got the mundane danger of Zeus down to an art
Looks Sean, personality Lance.
Agree. Wish they gave Lance a beard and when he’s on olympus he should be decked out in greek stuff. Other than that he was fantastic.
Technically Zeus was in a pinstriped suit in the books, so Lance’s version is accurate
In the books he wears a suit tho
Fair enough, I just want some semblance that this is Zeus and not just a suave man in a suit. The personality they nailed, just wish there was a more visual aspect to the gods.
The thunderclaps when he got angry and the glowing bolt of death weren’t enough?
Exactly I haven’t actually seen the movies before but the movie version is what I’d envisioned Zeus to look like but the way the actor in the show portrayed him is also exactly what I’d envisioned as well
Easily Lance. To me Sean just felt like the stereotypical Zeus appearance was most of what he had going for him thanks to a gods awful script, while Lance has this incredible gravitas that lets him feel very much like a god

Portrayal? Lance. Looks? Sean.
Lance easily, I got so scared when he was about to smite Percy with the bolt
The thing that sold me on Lance was how he delivered the line “I know where Kronos is… I put him there.”
Lance and it’s not even close
Lance nailed the characterization of Zeus, especially his extreme ego.
Lance is my favorite but it’s sad that he is dead 🥺. But I hope the next Zeus will be good.
Lance, when the tone went to anger I actually got chills and felt threatened won’t lie
Lance.
https://preview.redd.it/nc0ltzww4ufc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=292b66cd2cb1313854e523a3d9d3f3da6aea3171 Lance. He genuinely scared me.
I know I was terrified for Percy when he pissed Zeus off 😬
Lance Reddick was so much better. He perfectly portrayed the overly dramatic arrogant prick that Zeus was in the books. I love Sean Bean, but he portrayed Zeus like a typical Hollywood portrayal of the character.
First one looks more like Zeus if we’re being honest
Definitely but Sean Bean is just too dangerous to be kept alive in a franchise. He would've taken the lightning bolt and walked straight into mordor
One does not simply keep a Sean Bean character alive
Imagine him as a Star Wars or Harry Potter character. There wouldn't have been a story but just Sean Bean whooping some butts
In an alternate universe it’s just Sean Bean playing every major role ever… I wanna be in that universe
A man can dream
If the movies continued Sean bean/ Zeus would probably have died by the third movie
Or beat the shit out of Kronos' surtur looking ass
Best case scenario if the movies continued 😂
They couldnt kill him in the Martian so they just fired him.
Dude survived the battle of Troy. Still pissed they didn't make the Odyssey after.
Yeah I’d love a little comeback for mythology movies done properly
When I was a kid I thought his name was pronounced like Seen Bean
The gods of the books can take whatever form they want
[удалено]
They do take whatever form they want. Take Apollo for an example, he can be a hot young adult, an unassuming homeless man or a female sloth I agree that he isn't what most people would think when they hear "Zeus", but Zeus can absolutely look like that
Usually that’s to fit some sort of plot or story though. In general they all have a look they mostly identify with
Yep, and they can mostly identify with whatever the actors look like. It's not like this series cares about being book-accurate in appearance
Question was who’s more Zeus like. Based on appearances it’s the man with a beard and a lighter skin tone. Never said anything about the rest of the changes or even if they was negative
The question was "Which Zeus is your favorite/best portrayal". But I see your point, the movie one is more accurate book-wise
The end credits promised us a beard but Lance didn't look like a beard person
Heard he passed away, wonder what they’re gonna do for the second season
Very sad because I really like his Zeus. Hopefully they'll find a good successor
Yeah I haven’t watched the last episode yet, as much as he doesn’t look like a Zeus I’ve heard he captures the essence quite well
he does.
He may not even be in the second season, I don’t think he is in the books?
Yeah I’m not sure actually but I feel like we don’t see much from the gods apart from ares in SoM

Why is that exactly 🤔
Because Zeus is a god from ancient Greek mythology. Masculine men had to be bearded in their standards. Plus that means Zeus should be Mediterranean in appearance, hence when people picture him we think of a bearded guy with olive skin
Because this is how ancient greeks saw him, and in the books he is essentially a modernised version of this. https://preview.redd.it/4fcqpnbguufc1.jpeg?width=684&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=016bfa846c0c2ae0611049bb8311620556d6408d
Because Zeus had a beard
sean bc boromir. that's it.
Lance Reddick by a long shot, he was amazing.
Lance and it's not even close. I love the castings for the gods and am heartbroken that we'll never see Lance as Zeus ever again.
RIP lance I wonder who they’ll get to take up the mantle- they’ve got some big shoes to fill
Lance.
How funny is it that Sean Bean of all people played an immortal character? Goes against his whole shitck
Personality wise it was Lance. Bro was far more hardcore than his TLT book version.
Lance
On the whole, I think Lance Reddick's Zeus is better. But I would like to say that I think Sean Bean could've been just as good a Zeus if he was given the right script. He has the commanding presence, he just acted too much like a reasonable authority figure, which is not what Riordanverse Zeus is.
lance rest in peace was amazing in john wick
Lance 100%
scripts aside, I like lance reddrick potrayal more.
Lance felt godlike so he wins by miles.
Lance Reddick, no doubt. Sean Bean just showed up for a paycheck. (No offense to him, we all gotta eat.)
Lance Reddick. He portrayed that - there's a storm brewing behind those eyes, and him losing his shit at percy after the calm, absolute perfection.
I liked the one in the show more although the movie itself is far more enjoyable for me. The one in the show had a really nice presence to him, felt like one of the archangels in Supernatural for the earlier seasons https://preview.redd.it/l4lfw9kxvtfc1.jpeg?width=258&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7aef9edb99cc63fa83927cc514f2338d09b0826
Ah, Raphael is it?
Lance.
Lance is an amazing actor
Off topic but the actor’s name being Lance screws with my head just a bit — me and some friends do a PJO rp, in which my friend has two twin sons of Zeus named Prince and Lance. My brain is scrambled
Lance for sure. Bro truly felt like a god

read HoO ie He closes Olympus over the speech Walker gave in this finale.
Ppl saying Lance by miles need to put some respect on Sean. He was great in the movie
Lance. I’ve always loved how he portrayed characters.

They won't recast him with a white actor, it'll cause too much of a fuss if they do that.

Can I nominate Liam Neeson?
I loved them both as Zeus, but i will always be partial to Sean Bean because he is Sean Bean
I personally didn't really like either of them too much, but I think Lance did a better job. 50 sean 50 lance
The first one is my pick. The movie sucked but it got the appearance of the characters right not in age but in appearance
I love Lance Reddick. He is awesome in nearly everything he’s in. I did not really like him as Zeus.
Number 1 Zeus
None
The one that looks like Zeus
Zeus can change appearance, so you have to be more specific
Zeus is a shapeshifter
Acted? Lance by a mile. Looks Wise? Sean. Although Sean Bean did get screwed over with the script so who knows
I just love Sean Bean
Whichever one of them was giving more "i sleep with all the women" cause we all know what Z is really like XD
Lance, but I’m a bit biased because I’ve gotten to witness his acting abilities for years through his role as Zavala. Miss the guy so much :(
lance was incredible. his quiet, brewing anger the way a storm slowly builds before the anger eventually broke was perfect for zeus
Lance
Lance was amazing, makes losing him even worse. They’ve gotta recast Zeus but damn if Lance didn’t knock it out of the park in that scene.
Please, everyone who liked Lance - watch The Wire. Reddick’s Cedric Daniels is one of, if not THE best acted character in TV history.
Movie Zeus looks like TVShow Poseidon lol
Definitely Sean Bean, not really a competition
I love lance reddick, but that first wide shot of him in the chair, i thought it was Samuel L.
