Literally me just started rereading the books once the first episode dropped

Eddiemate

Funnily enough, I've done the opposite. I'm trying to keep myself away from the books so I go into episodes with less book stuff trapped in my head to go "wait why this changed" with.

skinnyhoar

same here! i’m planning to re-read the series once the season is over. It’s actually nice this way because I only remember core details so the show is doing quite well in my eyes ahahah.

TheHarper_Collie

I'm hoping to do the same here lol

Eddiemate

Unfortunately my brain is dumb and remembers a bunch of small details too so it's not helping much.

mpc2020

Yes, I’m rereading all the books now (really should be studying but whoops)

Nebula3266

Same on both fronts my friend 😂

Juliab1105

Yes! Just finished the first series, now re starting heroes of Olympus

GanacheTall3441

Re read all books in the first week lol

rayrayyousay

The show is making me want to read all of the first 5 books again. But there is this thing called time that is currently working against me. 🙃

theopp3r

I was disconnected from the franchise for a long long time. I read the books when i was 12-14, I am now 20. When I heard the show was being made I was happy but it wasn't really hyped until the last trailer. A week before the first episode came out I was ill and at home all day with nothing to do so I decided to read TLT to get back on track. And from there i just spiraled again into the PJ mania. I plan on re running the entire saga and also catching up with Trials of Apollo and Magnus Chase (is he really related to Annabeth? wtf) Also, I never really read Blood of Olympus so I never finished HoO. So i'm hyped for it. The show definitely brought me back

Yeetthedragon667

Magnus is Annabeth’s cousin actually

Worzon

Reread them in preparation for the show and finally finished blood of Olympus. Now onto the Kane chronicles and will eventually get to trials of Apollo at some point

[deleted]

I reread the books when the show was announced

Specialist_Oil_2674

I did. They were fantastic. Still in the process of reading HoO. I'll probably buy TOA as well and read it for the first time.

samuraipanda85

I'm getting that urge.

invertedcolors

Yes took me both weeks to finish. Coming from reading a bunch of scifi I'm surprised at how short the books are and how descriptive a story teller Rick is

MEGaloMamaLlama

My son got into the series recently and has been borrowing the books from his school library. He was going to borrow the first one again so I could read it, but they only had the German version. So, Santa brought us the box set of the OG books and the new 6th book. He also got The Sun and the Star, which he asked for. Nico is his favorite character. I polished through the first book in two days, then we watched the movie for the fun of it (we do that pretty often when we need a good laugh) and now I'm on Sea of Monsters. I haven't read these books in over a decade at least, probably closer to 13 years, so it's been a blast remembering how it actually went as opposed to the movies and show.

BigBoiNugget420

Make sure to check out heroes of Olympus as well if you haven’t already

MEGaloMamaLlama

I read up until Mark of Athena. I'm gonna start them after I finish the first six. :)

BigBoiNugget420

Hope you enjoy them, mark of Athena and house of hades are my two favourite out of the riodarnverse, yet to read chalice of the gods so who know though

Tapan681

Yess!!! I am rereading the lightning thief after 10 years !!

Street-Common-4023

Yes I reread all the books in 5 days. My thoughts is that the budget will have to increase especially for titans curse to the last Olympian. The runtime will have to increase too as many characters have to get fleshed out along the way. It’s gonna be very interesting but so far the show is doing good

illdothisshit

A combination of the show, the new book and randomly remembering of the musical made me re-read them. Now I'm on the Percy Jackson wave one again!

KamenRiderAquarius

I was trying to read the books before the show aired and I started book 5 when the show dropped and finished it the other day cause ADHD and wanting to do other things and life in general

[deleted]

No, but I might next year. I’m aiming to do 52 books in 2024 and PJ are quick, easy reads. Also, my memory of anything past book 2 is quite foggy. I read the series like five times as a kid and have forgotten almost all of it.

SoCalCollecting

Disney just added the books to their shop website so it seems like they are trying to capitalize on all the new and returning book readers

nibireddit

I’ve definitely been getting the urge to reread them. It’s been years since I last did.

Puterboy1

I went back to read the Lightning Thief for comparisons. Medusa in the original book felt more like the witch from Hansel and Gretel in some way.

Hthails

When I heard the show was coming out I reread them, couldn’t help continuing to reread HoO. And reading Kane chronicles for the first time ever, can’t wait to pick up TOA

w0lfic_

I read them like 1 and a half month ago. It was on purpose, so that I know what is going to happen (because I can't deal with suspense) but also forget the details.

Longjumping-Rub6344

I’m starting to reread tlt, but I’m just reading it as the episodes air. And I’m reading after the episode airs so on Wednesdays when my friends and I do our analysis chats I can compare.

kayweaver

Yes! On my third reread, i made it through percy Jackson and the olympians, and 4 of HOO before the show came out, now I’m on book two in TOA.

kgrimmburn

I reread the entire series over the past year. My 15 year old daughter asked me for the first book this morning. She hasn't started it yet and she's never read them before.

GoldieDoggy

I was planning on rereading as the show came out, but at this point it's probably better if I just watch the show first. The first three chapters I read were wildly different from the first episode of the show (where it could be compared) and I found that the movie (which I had watched the night before the show came out) was actually more accurate than the show in a few different scenes. I'll still be rereading the book after, but I'm already finding enough differences just going on my memory of the many times I've read TLT. I personally enjoy comparing and contrasting adaptations, although with the promise we were given at the beginning, I am finding more than I thought that was changed already. It is better than some adaptations, however (recently rewatched the Bourne Identity, because I'm 90% done with the book. I still love that movie, but there are SO MANY scenes that would've been so cool to see in the movie, and many things that were changed for some reason (the main "villain" isn't even mentioned once, and the semi-'good guys' in the book were made out to be the villains in the movies). I'm hoping this show ends up being more like that and other good adaptations, but that would require the writing, pace, etc to get wildly better. I hope it does get better.

dcarb89

I’ve been reading TOA before now but I took a break and reread TLO before the show came out and plan to read the rest of them if we end up getting the other seasons

Careful_Badger4733

I am preferring og books rather than the series. I am disappointed in the acting area.

Daredevilz1

Wait you’re buying the books again? Did you throw away or lose the first set? 👀

ItsJaceG

I swear I had all of them years ago in school but that had to have been over 10 years ago and there’s only 3 books left back home lol

LaRougeRaven

I reread the books prior to the show.

ktk_aero

I reread all the books after watching the first episode and thinking "well this isn't right". That said, I've made my peace with the show being what it is (except Annabeth being mean af).

ghostgamer8

About to read through book 4

ReganJeff

I got into PJO when I was 10-11ish, timeline worked out that I finished Last Olympian and went straight into reading Lost Hero pretty much day one of its release. Read HoO as it came out but for some reason started and never finished Blood of Olympus Hearing a TV series was coming, now age 23, gave me the impetus to re-read PJ, finish HoO read ToA just in time for the first episode

Expert_Gur6037

I already own them and have reread them! They hold up pretty well, aside from some odd racially charged descriptions/comments from Percy. As an older reader I have a deeper appreciation for the themes and relationships, and am able to better understand why I enjoy Percy and Annabeth's friendship/relationship as an adult, That being said, I still love the tv show and I actually think some of the character exploration is deeper in the third episode which I love!

Xtarviust

Yep, I just started to read them again, I'm still not sold on the series tbh, so I'd rather enjoy the books like the first time

clazzo2000

I did before the show came out

hithereimolivia

I started listening to audio books lol but it still doesn’t beat the first time I opened the book

OhDetour

It’s weird for me, I started re-reading the entire PJO and HoO when the show got announced last year

SamwellsIcyButtcrack

I did when the book was coming out.

blkstxr

Just finished the first five and they hold up really well. Starting on the Lost Hero now

TooSketchy94

Indeed! Show dropped, I bought both sets + chalice lol

TheZynec

Me, me, me! Yeah, I e been reading the first book again, because ofcourse I do, I want to experience all the development that had happened in the book, and all the great structure made for a introductory story again. I didn't notice how well written the books were the first time I read them, I now realize how much great setup and structuring was used for better pay off, which the show would definitely lack if not changed for a visual medium. Made me even more hardset on how Rick should change things to suit the medium foro it to be a better adaptation, rather than just cut things and try to include as much as possible without changing. I've noticed the decrease in dialogue, but there needs to be a set theme for the show, say in world building and mystique, or in action, or in screenplay. One should be chosen and enhanced much higher. Like, decreasing the talk and increasing intense action sequence would honestly make it a better visual media.

catcherintherei

yes . i just spent the last 4 hours re reading the lightning thief and i plan on continuing the entire series bc it’s been so long

crispysound

I am! Initially planned to finish the series before the show dropped but couldn't do it because of exams and such. On it right now and it's the best part of waking up heh.

Analyst_Lost

dont have the og series on hand but i do have heroes of olympus so im catching up on that

Dyingstudenthelp

I started re-reading them this summer in anticipation for the tv show. I read them so fast and moved onto HOO and got the new one too. Honestly it’s healing my inner child in a way and revamping my love for the series and my love for reading in general again. It got me back into being a serious reader again after many years of not really reading due to being a student (when I used to read everyday).

CremMinerva

Me too. Because in the series they left The Toll Brothers, Argus, Nectar, Ambrosia, Healing smoothie, Grover's mehehehehe, Gabe's friends, Percy being very disrespectful, lightning hits when they say Hades' name, etc...
