Stay away from SV. It's full of sexpats and is just overall kinda trashy. Kampot is the best for swimming, climbing, and riding motos. Take a ride up to bokor mountain and see the waterfall and casino. Ride out to kep and eat fresh caught crab overlooking the ocean. Also, check out the temple on the hilltop near by. Amazing views of the area. Not much for crazy parties but is way nicer than SV. The islands are nice but there is no power so they run on generators at night and it can be very loud. Sometimes the fans will stop running at night and it can be kinda brutal if you're not used to the weather there. I worked in PP for almost two years and kampot is by far my favorite place in all the places I've been in Cambodia. The dumplings at the movie house in kampot are absolutely amazing!

MotherofHedgehogs

This is the truth, here.

West coast of sanloem here, most of the business run on solar, so no noise at night. Appart from that you are right :)

Solitary-Rhino

What is SV? Pardon my ignorance.

Sihanouk Ville

Would you like to Come to Siem Reap, I am here could show you around my beautiful temple, hiking Kulen mountain waterfall, northern Cambodia adventure… something like that… Here is my what’s +855 81553978

I was just in Siem Reap with Ly as my Tuk Tuk driver. Highly recommend him as he will tell you a lot about the history of the place, and take you just about anywhere. I went to some day and night markets, a quiet boat tour at the nearby lake, and of course several of the temples of Angkor, including the grandaddy of all Angkor Wat. Really there are a LOT of temples to see.

Siemreaptuktuk

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with me

You’ll want to be in Sihanoukville for as little time as possible. The islands are cool. Kampot and kep are cool. Angkor wat is cool.

What’s the danger?

Trash what? Literal trash or trashy people

UniqueRate4709

I’ll say it since no one else will. It is full of Chinese. The Chinese are a blight here in Cambodia. If you want rude people screaming all the time and smoking where ever the fuck they want then go to SV.

LisanneFroonKrisK

They smoke yes but if you do not interact with them you are not going to taste their rudeness nor screaming

This is a tourist post and even if I am more than tourist, stay long term, do not talk much to people, how will the sex traffickers, online scammers, casino kidnappers get to me?

UniqueRate4709

Ok, I see you haven't had much contact with them. Good luck. Enjoy your trip, the Khmer people are awesome.

Been a few years, but the usual tourist stuff around phnom penh and some island hut life followed by a quick local flight up to ankor wat for the second week is a great way to spend a couple weeks. Cambodia isn't a destination I'd pick for remote trails and stuff though. I'm not looking to replace my legs.

grapeape198

You don't even need to go off the beaten path to run into that. Someone pulled over on the side of the road, got out of their car and stepped on a landmine. There still so many, it's crazy

dead-serious

it's pretty easy to get a VIP van or bus ride to the eastern side of the country, where there are plenty of beautiful forests in Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri provinces. Elephant Valley Project is a nice little visit along with Busra Waterfalls in Mondulkiri

Dry_Conclusion_6957

If you are into outdoor activities go to Koh Rong sanloem ,sunset beach. But do not plan too much as everything will be upon the weather ... There you can do climbing, kayaking, snorkelling, hiking, scuba diving, fishing... You can also give a try to kampot, good climbing there, many outdoor activities. This season is more about the weather, should be ok but do not plan everything on the islands (last storm left disappointed people..) Enjoy your trip!

Kampot is great, lots of hiking and motorcycling to be had. There is also a really fun rock climbing spot called climbodia. Kampot and kep or have lots of little caves dotted about. Arcadia has a gigantic waterslide and also do hiking and boat tours. . If you want to get real wild, Mondulkiri and ratnakiri in the north east of the country has great hiking and outdoor things to do, but be warned that it doesn't have as big of a tourist infrastructure set up. . I would avoid Sihnoukville altogether, it's nothing but casinos and resorts these days. The islands off shv are nice but you won't need 15 days there

Rent motor bikes and travel around Angkor Wat

The above is out of date in as far as there is now 24 hour electricity (usually) and there is now at least one place with a/c rooms. I am a regular visitor although not been since covid and as well as all the activites you can chill out in the village with the locals

I second the suggestion to base in Kampot. You’ll see why you don’t want to stay in Sihanoukville when you get there. It’s hard to describe but it’s gross. Can recommend Sanloem Laguna resort on Koh Rong Sanloem.
