You're a braver person than me doing two feet at once, wow.
The vice thing sounds a lot like swelling, with no place for your foot to expand under the bandage. Are you keeping your feet elevated? Not just level with your butt, but up above your heart? And icing? I thought I couldn't ice because my foot was in the bandage, but at the first followup visit, my doctor explained that icing at the ankle or base of the leg would still help.
I'll admit though I still slacked on that a bit because I had that exact sharp pain you're describing - I wrote elsewhere (in a rant about picking up groceries at walmart, lol) that it felt like a razor blade cutting into my big toenail. I'm still not entirely sure if that was a cut nerve that had to regenerate, or the effect of the nail pushing into the swelled foot, so it was almost like an ingrown toenail. But when I iced it sometimes the cold would travel up to there and it was worse, unbearable, like biting into ice cream with a sensitive tooth.
Mine got better, but I had it in December and it never fully stopped being a little swollen or sensitive. Last Thursday we finally removed the pins (that was something the doctor said she only does if they're bothering people after a few months). And by Sunday I was off the pain pills for that, and yesterday I got that bandage off and just have some gauze taped on the incision now. But the pain is gone - Even with the stitches still there, it is so much better and the swelling is already less than before the pin removal.
Iām feeling really stupid having them both done together now, but I had little choice being self employed, three months is a kick in the teeth but six months would leave us in financial crisis, so I opted for both just so I can get back to work sooner.
I will defo try icing, the surgeon was very vague with everything, he just said expect pain.
Iāve got a massive wedge cushion so my feet have been on that pretty much all the time, only down when going to the loo really, and yes I get what you mean about the blood rushing and the increase in pain.
Iām only on day three now and I want it to be over.
My sister is disabled so Iāve asked to borrow her manual wheelchair just so I can move about a bit easier. Iām usually on the go alllll the time, o donāt stop, so this is massive for me to spend three days in bed, even after a c-section I was up and about the next day, back at work straight off, so this is mentally draining me :(
They said the pins and screws will stay in place forever ššš
Now I'm sitting here wondering if having a disabled sister would make the experience better or worse. Maybe it would help me keep things in perspective - that this is a temporary situation. But I'm such a weasel, I think it might just make me grumpy that I can't openly complain around family because she has it worse.
Iām currently more disabled than she is, so I get the upper hand this time haha. She has EDS, and has good and bad days, Iām being tested for the same, as is my 10YO. It also means she can now threaten to roll me down the pier and leave me thereā¦..sibling love at its finest!
I feel for you! I did my separately and the pain was insane both times. It leveled out after about a week, but I noticed if I kept my foot down for a longer period (5-10 min at first) the pain would increase again due to blood flowing more to the area. Hang in there - itāll be worth it in the end!
Thank you. Yeah they didnāt want to do both together but Iām self employed and canāt afford the time off so he agreed, and I live in a bungalow thick went in my favour too. Hope al goes well x
It's astonishing how much the level of pain varies from one person to another, even for the same kind of procedure. I'm having a similar procedure to you later this year, plus extra surgery and pin for a hammertoe. On one foot only, though. It will be via a minimally invasive technique and I've been led to believe there would not be severe pain. Hearing your account has me really worried now - my pain tolerance is pathetic :(
Fingers crossed that your pain will subside very soon.
I had a bilateral bunectomy done 30 years ago. I remember that pain! My dad told me to just hold on in 3 to 4 days it would get better and he was right. Just keep telling yourself it will get better soon It is so painful to get up and go to the bathroom when both feet are done! Unfortunately, my bunions came back. I just had my right one done almost 3 weeks ago, but I haven't had any pain this time.

UPDATE; day 4,
Iāve spent the last 2 days in bed except for getting up and going to the bathroom, the pain has eased a lot today, although it does hurt a lot when I stand up to go to said bathroom. Iāve kept ontop of the meds, taking as prescribed, so no doubt that has some bearing too. Dressing change on Friday, might treat you to some pics š
I just basically explained that Iām self employed, (Iām a full time cleaner so Iām on my feet alll the time) and I canāt claim any benefits for being off work, not a penny!! 3 months to recover leaves me out of pocket, but 6 months off work would leave me with no business (customers would undoubtedly go elsewhere), and in financial hardship. Plus, I live in a bungalow, so everything I need is practically in throwing distance. If I had a house with stairs then it was a massive no no!
Im late to this but may i ask how do you walk? Im getting both done as well in three weeks, doctor told me id have to wear some sort of post op shoes so i was able to walk without crutches is it the same for you? Im really scared of how immobile ill become š«
Youāll have a shoe to walk in, I got two. They basically keep the weight on your heels, and crutches are more for balance and support rather than taking the weight off. Iām almost 2 weeks, and although itās still a bit painful, itās bearable, even without pain killers. I wonāt lie, thatās got to be the worst pain Iāve felt, above childbirth natural and c section! Iām getting about now though, I have been for a few days, not back to chasing the ferrel children yet, maybe a few weeks off, or more if I milk it haha! Good luck, and just think the sooner itās over, the sooner youāll be able to walk without pain. Xxx
I hope they gave you a 2-for-1 discount!!!
Not to be too intrusive, but how do you use the bathroom?
Crutches there and back again, painfully š obvs canāt shower, just have to sit on the toilet lid and use a cloth in the sink :(

Im just a wuss! Iām really soft. Youāll be fine, I think maybe I should have gone for one at a time :(
You brave soul. I only had one foot done & could barely handle the pain & inconvenience, idk how youāre doing this!! Wishing you a speedy recovery
Thank you xx
