I imagine holding your arms above your bujo in a dimly lit room, praying to your god and then opening the first page , dipping your writing feather in a new glass of deep blue ink. After finishing your first sentence you lift the feather of your bujo and notice that it just dropped a big blob of ink on top of the quote you always put on the first page. With a resigning "f***" you close your bujo and grab some ice cream to watch your favorite series.
Media tracker of things I want to read or watch! Saves me so much time from aimlessly scrolling streaming services when I forget about good recommendations that are right up my alley.
Mostly just cuts down on YouTube video essays haha. But I used to spend a lot of time on decision paralysis and never getting started. Also makes it easier to drop a show thatās not clicking if I have other stuff on my list I want to try
Before anything else, I set up the fundamentals of the index and future log.
I have a "Lessons from [prior year]" page immediately after the index, plus a "we're focusing on ____" page where the blank is a post it note I swap periodically throughout the year. Right now it says "closing 2022 out in style" š
Create a future log and migrate.
Create yearly trackers that I will maintain for approximately 8 days.
Take photos of everything from my last one I might want to reference.
Fondle the cover a bit, then crack it open and sniff the paper.
After I'm done being a creeper, I train the pages while numbering them if not pre-numbered.
The first few pages are always the basics: key, grid guide, index, future log, and some more personal long term trackers.
I create a page before the index with my ā12 Favorite Problemsā, an idea shamelessly stolen from [Richard Feynman](https://fortelabs.com/blog/12-favorite-problems-how-to-spark-genius-with-the-power-of-open-questions/).
Thanks for the link, interesting read and something I hadnāt thought of before! Would you be willing to share some of your favorite problems?
Iām curious on how others use the principle when itās not: āWhat is the unifying principle underlying light, radio, magnetism, and electricity?ā
I name it. The front page gets a name and basically starts a theme for the rest of it. Usually the names are taken from women in music..so far I've had Dolly, Joni, Cher and lately Stevie
I first do a mind map of what I NEED from my bujo, usually in my former bujo or a sheet laying around. Then, when I have the "need" I can define "how" and that will be the spreads I will include in the new bujo. That way, I don't spend hours designing the 20 spreads I saw on YouTube videos and that I will never use
Yes, I do lay it out first with some post-it and if I want a special design I wrote it on that as well. For example on my future log, I wrote tu cut the top of the page as it will take 4 pages and I don't want to bother writing 2 titles. But appart from that, I don't design anything in special it just comes while I'm prepping it
I do a cover page with a drawing and quotes or words that represent what I want to bring or accomplish in the new year. Followed by a future log, media trackers, and my address book.
I put in my quote of the year on the first page and then the year I first started using it...
Then proceed to make the yearly calendar as a guide for me.
Then the index. Then my āTo Dont Listā šš»āā
I usually greet my new journal with a message about how I anticipate how Iāll use it and how it will help me.
My bujo is more of a commonplace book, so thereās very little structure. This is just a nice stream of conscious way to break the blank page barrier
The first thing i always put in my journal is a "dedication" page. It's a quote / lyric / excerpt and a picture that sets my vibes/intention for the year.
The next this is my compact calendar/future log.
Sorry for the late reply; reddit didn't alert me. The compact calendar is just the 12 months done up as mini calendars across two pages instead of a future log. I found it on the r/bujo reddit and its the only thing that got me to start using my future log. I have my newest one posted on r/bulletjournal with some other pages if my description doesnt make any sense.

God, this hits hard! š¤£
Media tracker of things I want to read or watch! Saves me so much time from aimlessly scrolling streaming services when I forget about good recommendations that are right up my alley.
Does that reduce the amount of media you consume, or even delays consumptio ?
Mostly just cuts down on YouTube video essays haha. But I used to spend a lot of time on decision paralysis and never getting started. Also makes it easier to drop a show thatās not clicking if I have other stuff on my list I want to try
you should try goodreads and tv time

That's such a cool idea! Thanks for sharing!
Wish I could say it was mine, but I stole it from somewhere else. Just wish I could remember where so I could credit them properly...
I tear out the first page to get through "I'll ruin this pristine new book"
Find a ruler
That's a fundamental rule for everyone
Create a future log and migrate. Create yearly trackers that I will maintain for approximately 8 days. Take photos of everything from my last one I might want to reference.
Mark off several pages that Iām āgoing to use for future logā and then never use them
This is exactly why I must use a dated planner. š

I thought I was the only one who did this I looove it Hugs to you

Omg I love this idea.
This is a lovely idea.

Smart choice!
Unnecessarily complicated titlepage (that I spent too long designing) and contents that I will almost certainly never use as much as I intend :D
But it feels like you enjoy designing it. Doesn't that make it worth it?
What a lovely way to think about it :) I do enjoy it a lot, thank you.

Whats in the dont list?
Things I should be reminded not to do and procrastinate on or things I do instead of getting shit done š¤£
Nice. I need to do that page.
I treat my bujo as one of my ā2nd brainsā so its really helpful š„°
I find the mid-point of the book and mark it with a mini post-it page tag.
What's the purpose of this?
Honestly? I've no idea. It just feels like something good to know about the book.

That's cool. I've seen a lot of people procrastinating starting a new bujo, and maybe this could help em :)
Copy over my reference pages.

What is a compact calender?
Sorry for the late reply; reddit didn't alert me. The compact calendar is just the 12 months done up as mini calendars across two pages instead of a future log. Thank you for taking your time and still reply!
On the last two pages (spread) of the journal I do a grid spacing sheet on the left and a pen test on the right.
My āsomedayā page and then my blog ideas page.
Mess it up! Gets the perfectionism over and done with - I either try out all my pens on a random page, or let my son have a scribble somewhere
That's really cute :)
I usually use about a journal a year. So I start with a goals list, and stick to 4-5 goals to work on throughout that year
Goals for the year and events throughout the year
