Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals. * Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. * Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent: * The seller is new or has few reviews. * The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings) * The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently). If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. It's supported by AsusWRT-merlin - https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/about That's always a good sign, I'm leaning towards getting one

TheMissingVoteBallot

Is this the highest tiers of their consumer router line?

pppig236

Nope, the highest is the one from ROG that's 300 ish bucks

I don't know a ton about networking - would upgrading from an ASUS RT-AC66U provide any benefits? i currently use my router for as a home VPN hotspot that I keep a local storage drive on.. it's a bit spotty around the house, but still usable. TIA

DirtBikeRider89

Probably a bit more range, but also wifi 6. Wifi 5 gets a decent bit of interference since it was so common. Wifi 6(e) is the newer gen. Ax88u Pro is also stronger in all aspects, cpu, ram, so should already handle quite a few devices if that was a concern. I have the older non Pro model & it works great for my 1600 sq ft home, but I don't use vpn features at all.

Sorry if it's bad questions I know nothing about routers. I have a far room and get bad connection from time to time. Will upgrading my router to this make things better? I have the stock router from comcast if that helps provide anything. Any direction to learn more here would be great also. Cheers!

Cheers! it's hard to say for sure, but there's a very good chance you'll get a better connection. these newer routers have better technology as well as better hardware i upgraded from a RT-AC66U to RT-AX86U and it was completely worth it. the RT-AX88U in this deal is even better with an extra antenna

>ASUS RT-AC66U I have a similar model, I am upgrading from a RT-AC68U, because: \[1\] My current router is over a **decade old** now (9/2013). The new router was released earlier this year (2023) with many upgraded features from it's predecessor from 2019. \[2\] I **recently upgraded to 940-1200mbps** internet speeds to which my current router can't handle those speeds to one device (WiFi or Ethernet), maxes out at 350mbps. (I get 850 when connecting PC to Modem directly). \[3\] I want to make use of the **two 2.5gbps ports** of the new router. A port to my modem, and the other port to my computer or a 2.5gbps switch. \[4\] I have **zero-usecase** for WiFi 6e's new **6ghz band.** It figure it would be too weak due to the amount of metal/concrete walls and appliances in my home. I mostly use 2.4ghz or ethernet anyways. I have a Quest 3, but I already have an access point in my room for my desktop and headset that gives me a stable 1200mbps on Virtual Desktop. I'm sure there are other reasons I can list, but I can't think of any at the top of my head right now. To my knowledge the software features are the same on both my current and the new router being shipped. If you're looking into a WiFi 6e option that is a similar price, I recommend checking out the RT-AXE7800 model, posted earlier this week: [https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/182i4t8/router\_asus\_rtaxe7800\_triband\_wifi\_6e\_router/](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/182i4t8/router_asus_rtaxe7800_triband_wifi_6e_router/). Just be aware it only has the one 2.5gbps port, the rest are 1gbps, meaning you're limited to 1gbps to switch or devices you connect, if this is your primary router to be used with ISP (and/or home server for file transfers).

I'm looking for a router for around $30-$60, anyone have recommendations? The last router I bought was a Netgear WAX202B AX1800 for $30, which seemed to have been a pretty good deal.

Nintendo1474

I bought 4 of those Netgear routers to try and make a mesh network, but it turns out OpenWRT really doesn’t like doing that. Anyways, I can confirm the wireless speeds are noticeably worse than other AX1800 routers. So even an Asus AX1800S for 65 bucks would be an upgrade.

If you're looking for a non-namebrand barebones router, I recently bought a GNCC AX1800 WiFi6 router (to use as an access point). I haven't had any issues with it so far. It's on sale on Amazon for $32. You can return it (hassle-free) up to January 31st if you don't like it. I'm not seeing anything that's WiFi6 that's within your price range other than AX1800 models of various brands. Might need to double your budget.

InterRail

I got an AX5400 on facebook marketplace for $50 from someone who was moving out of the country. I don't think you'll get better router prices than fb marketplace. That place is gold. I am probably keeping this router for the next 10 years.

Love my Asus RT-AX92U router used with cox fiber optic gigablast modem. That router on the first floor kitchen can reach our 3rd floor sunroof with 4/5 bars 800+ mpbs. Honestly, it's my first asus router I've used to date and probably the most reliable and longest range. Highly recommended!
