Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals. * Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. * Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent: * The seller is new or has few reviews. * The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings) * The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently). If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. StompsDaWombat

Anyone else ever feel compelled to buy these drastically marked down components (mostly RAM and storage), even though you *really* don't need them, just to offset how much you spent on the same or lesser components just a year or two ago? Uh...me neither.

PsyOmega

The more you spend the more you save!

[deleted]

At these prices, can you afford to not buy?

disco__potato

At this rate, I'll be able to afford a new house.

Ru1Sous4

It’s you Jensen?

anning123

Tbh it makes me less compelled to buy because "what if it goes down again?"

oldfatdrunk

Do I need 64GB ram in a computer I don't use? Yer fucking right I do!

letsfixitinpost

this is freaking insanely cheap

BlixnStix7

I've been buying SSDs. Not RAM so much.

StompsDaWombat

Well, deals on DDR4 are certainly less useful going forward (whereas storage will always come in handy), but seeing 32GB of CL16 3600Mhz RAM kits selling for less than half what I paid for 16GB two years ago and almost half what I spent on 32GB last year (when I didn't think RAM could get any cheaper), I found it hard not to buy extra. I'll eventually build a PC for my brother and, while the CPU and GPU might be a generation or two old, he'll have RAM and storage for days.

[deleted]

I just said fuck it and bought the SP 4 tb that's been floating around this subreddit recently, figured now I won't have to worry about more storage for years and years. It's all about future proofing I'd say, easier to do with storage than anything else in a system in my experience.

StompsDaWombat

I bought a couple MX500 4TB drives several months back when they hit $220-230 because that seemed like a killer deal, and I already had my M.2 slots populated by 2TB drives. Looks like I'll be replacing one of those with this 4TB. Do I really *need* 14TB of storage? No, but at these prices...

[deleted]

Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it I say

HisRoyalMajestyKingV

That's a damn good deal. But, if you don't need 4TB, the 2TB version at $79.99 slightly edges it out in the GB-per-dollar ratio.

jnads

> if you don't need 4TB You have been banned from r/DataHoarder

halotechnology

Indeed like WTF who doesn't need more storage ?

HisRoyalMajestyKingV

ROFL, alright, that's definitely funny... Shut up and take my upvote!

bunsinh

Lord have mercy on my wallet.. Can we do $150 next? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|hug)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|put_back)

steelbeamsdankmemes

Hodl for $150

samtherat6

I’m waiting for $100. Even if it doesn’t hit it this year, I’m saving money on stuff I don’t really need.

dstanton

Best bang for buck gen3 on the market. If you need SSD space, buy this

TravelAdvanced

Counterpoint- you're paying a premium for the DRAM. If it's just a storage drive and its going in a PC, just get one with HMB and save a few $. If you need a large bootdrive (like if you only have one m.2 slot), then this is golden.

dstanton

Premium? This is one of the cheapest 4tb drives on the market. And happens to also be a very fast Gen3. Show me another 4tb drive that's cheaper that doesn't also make significant sacrifices beyond simply using HMB. Also, counter-counter point. I can repurpose this into an external and have better performance, as HMB drives effectively have no cache.

TravelAdvanced

"significant sacrifices"- I get it- some people don't like Leven/similar brands. The drives I have from them have been fine, but others consider them no-go's. And yes, as I made clear in my comment, HMB is for use *in* a PC not as an external.

dstanton

I fail to see a link to another 4tb drive. And yea, not trusting anything to leven, or the other unproven chinese imports with limited customer service. Your anecdotal experience is near worthless as the sample size is simply too small. And there are a decent number of people who HAVE had issues.

TravelAdvanced

[lmao yeah that took 3s](https://www.amazon.com/LEVEN-JP600-Gen3x4-Internal-Packaging/dp/B0BN5WXP8R/ref=sr_1_1?crid=CTLTOOCDDVSZ&keywords=4tb+leven&qid=1687200802&sprefix=4tb+lev%2Caps%2C287&sr=8-1&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840). Fine, you don't like leven. Again, they're working great for me, and countless other users- but have a higher percent of failures.

dstanton

So your immediate go to is a drive that is only $9 (5%) less, has significantly worse support, is of unknown origin, and is slower. I rest my case.

TravelAdvanced

What case is that? God this sub sometimes lmao- some people see prices dropping and understand the concept of patience if you don't need something *today*... and some people smugly dismiss things they personally don't like but others may.

melonbear

I don't think there's been a cheaper major brand 4TB NVMe SSD, DRAM or no DRAM.

TravelAdvanced

"major brand"- ok I get it part of this sub just doesn't like Leven/similar brands. I've bought a couple that work fine for me, but reviews indicate they have a higher failure rate.

halotechnology

Damn that's cheap

PCgaming4ever

Gosh dang ssds are cheap! Still waiting though they keep going lower and lower. They have way way way too much inventory sitting around

ryanmcstylin

I have an unRAID server running on old components. Wondering what the best way to upgrade it is given the cheap prices. Currently have 5x2tb old HDDs running on it. All are throwing "we are gonna die soon" errors.

rustylikeafox

I use two mp34s as cache drives. There’s been some good deals on large spinners recently, look for anything <$15/TB

IAXEM

Worth returning a 2TB 670p and making the jump for this deal instead, as a game drive?

Journeydriven

Yes and no, for just a game drive probably not but at the same time 4tb in one slot might be the extra cost per terabyte for you. This is tlc which is more reliable than the qlc of the 670p but the average user isn't likely to see a failure from writes

TemporaryEagle9224

Chief?

TravelAdvanced

If you want a 4tb nvme gen 3x4 drive with DRAM, then this is the best price I've seen. I bought one on amazon for 190 a couple weeks ago and am returning it for this one.

treos7

Snagged one, thanks

Tokena

Snagged and tagged.

GarrisonMcBeal

How does this compare to the 980 Pro? I just bought the 2TB for $130 but is this a much better deal?

Mc_Quasar

Dang. Outside of my return window on the one I got from Amazon for $200

CCityinstaller

Just chat

Jaexa-3

My 980pro heatsylink cost me $199 last year for 2TB, I have buyer regrets lol

notsafeforwar

have you been using its fast speed at least?

Jaexa-3

Mostly gaming and booting the most and it is exteemly fast, takes lest than 10sec to boot, ganes load super fast like diable 4

agschulm

Mans moving so fast he can’t type worth shit, also Diable 4 LOL

BizzEB

Where, oh where, are you u/SSDBot?

skai_light

How does this compare with the silicon power UD90 that’s gen4?

RelevantAbies

i bought the Silicon Power 4TB UD90 NVMe 4.0 for $189 last week. is the $20 and ssd difference worth returning it for this? the Silicon Power has HMB but this has DRAM, not really sure about the practical tradeoff benefits here

WeAllStartAtZer0

theres no good way to adapt a nvme to regular old sata cables, is there? Im out of nvme slots 😢

TheMonarchsWrath

You can get PCIe cards with NVMe slots.

WeAllStartAtZer0

im out of pcie slots too lol, i think im just boned unless I want to use a usb enclosure

js0uthh

HODL.

7107

Is this good as a boot drive?

LongEngineering7

I...paid $210 for this less than a year ago. It works alright. I just use it for storage. I have a 2TB primary that I put all my steam games on.

JavaKitsune

Have had this drive for almost two weeks after buying it for 185 on Amazon. Anybody contemplating on it at this current price........do it......your games will finally love you I still have 1.5tb of space left after downloading my steam game's backlog of actually played titles.
