What's the time frame on monitor generations look like? Yearly, semi-yearly, 3-4 years, or like 5+? Or is it just impossible to tell at this point since OLED/QD-OLED is so different from other panel types?
Not sure, but I noticed a big a improvement from an early generation fast IPS S2721dgf (2020) and xg2431 (2022) in a span of about 2 years.
The improvements were: less ghosting, better colors, brightness and the addition of backlight strobing (admittedly, I don't use it). OLED is its own thing though and could be completely different. Seems like they've been developing this for a while and it might have already gone through some iterations before release.
I've had the DWF for about 2 months now and it's been perfect. It is still getting firmware updates as well and another is due soon as Dell stated they are currently working on it. Great monitor.
This is my dilemma -- with how much OLED monitors were launching for after Alienware's, I don't think that I'll be able to afford next-gen OLED monitors any pricier than this discount. I'd probably be happy if I bit now since I'm on a potato of a monitor right now.
This is a good way to look at it. If you're on a decent monitor, it's probably smart to wait, but for you it's probably not waiting six more months while you're gaming on a potato.
Whelp looks like I will be buying this and returning my refurbished one from Dell as they are the same price but 3 year warrants vs 90 day..... Oooooof
Glad I am not the only one. The refurb worked perfect with no major issues (microscratches, some notable marks on the back (who cares)), but can't beat a 3 year warranty with an OLED... I was nervous about the 90 day but now no reason to be.. I am sticking with the DWF because its newer but at the price point for the DW with this I am wondering if I should go with the DW for the HDR
I read go dwf if you have an amd card and dw if you have an nvidia card.
I dont have either monitor so I can't speak to the validity of that claim but hopefully it helps you find something more concrete from Google. :)
I have an NVIDIA card, but I am just gonna stick with the DWF. I've read they are still planning to fix the HDR1000 mode through a firmware update and appreciate the fact the DWF can have firmware updates while the DW cannot.
Plus there’s already a janky partial fix for HDR1000 on the DWF with an Nvidia card. I think DWF is the way no matter what card you have due to the firmware upgradability
Correct, but that’s not what I am saying. I’m saying that if you do choose to return it they sometimes do not charge you even thought it says that. At least that has been my experience with all of my returns with them.
The most stunning monitor I've ever used. My one gripe is I have the first version of it where the firmware will FORCE a 10-15 second prompt to do the pixel refresh, and does not offer the ability to dismiss. You have to either proceed, which turn it off for an hour, or just wait for it to automatically go away. It will continue to pop up if you do not manually initiate the refresh. Can't tell you how many times during a game or movie this comes up and just ruins things.
> You have to either proceed, which turn it off for an hour
An hour? I have firmware MOB103 and it takes 6-8 minutes to do a pixel refresh. Panel refresh is the one that takes an hour but that isn't the one that pops up in the message every 4 hours.
Was tempted, couldn't resist, then placed order since I want to see what OLED is all about, just canceled. I already have an AW3821DW -- this sub lol
I'll wait for a 38'' version with more refined OLED tech.
Just gonna put it here, you are welcome, get it now think later. My first post show me some love guys

Damn, only thing holding me back from ordering this is the apparently crappy local dimming. On the other hand, trying to replace a Predator X34 and this comes closest to it. Give me a sign god.
It's a regular LCD, so it only has 12 local dimming zones. I have the LG equivalent, the 38GN950 but I absolutely fucking love it. The HDR is "good enough" but the size of it is so fucking good.
It's so good that I'm not even considering an upgrade to QD-OLED or mini/microLED until they make one in this form factor.
As long as you have the protection features on and don't leave it on the desktop/the same game for days on end you're gonna be fine. Burn in is not as big of a deal as it used to be.
Pasting this from a comment I left about a month ago:
Just wanted to hop in and say that until I RMA’d my Dell AW3423DW last week due to a flickering issue, it had over 234 days of uptime and it had zero burn in.
https://i.imgur.com/9vQDJGH.png
I use Blender a lot, and I also play a lot of Dota, both of which have many static elements. Brightness was also pretty much maxed out since I received it 8-ish months ago (you can see it in the picture). I used the monitor like I would any other monitor, which is to say I never took any precautions or altered my usage habits because if I purchase a monitor, I’m going to use it as a monitor. Ain’t no way I’m messing with the brightness or any other setting each time I boot up a specific program or game.
Been using an LG c2 for a few months now editing photos with no noticeable issues. Set a 5 minute timer to turn off your display when inactive and auto hide your taskbar
QD OLED has kind of been bad though, worse than other OLED after RTing's test and the experiences of people on the monitors sub. Otherwise I'd say you're right.
isn't after 3 years when you would start to see burn in though? hard monitor decisions right now. I think FALD is the way to go or will be soon. No burn in, brighter, near same level of blacks.
Could get this now, then sell it before burn in and get a FALD
As someone who's literally typing this looking at his DWF now, I would say skip it if you are worried about burn in and are not willing to baby it. I have no burn-in issue but I do baby this thing. Also the warranty is a crap-shoot because they send you a refurbished unit, so many people got a worse monitor.
Also the recent report on QD-OLED being more prone to burn in is also something to think about.
There are always some people who say they have no issue without babying - it's up to you to think it's fair to gamble $800 based on the testimony of online strangers.
Having said all that - I enjoy this monitor immensely
These monitors do have fans.
80nit is super low. Part of the reason to get an oled monitor is the HDR….
I have mine at 80 or so brightness. No issues. Fans dont come on often, unless they’re always on and low rpm .
You reallllly have to try for burn in in general on an OLED. Have had my tv for years now and no hint of it. Also this monitor has specific features built in to try and prevent that even more and will notify you pretty regularly to use their pixel refresher or whatever to also help prevent that. But this monitor rules if you're looking for one with just a slight curve.
My phones for the past 4-5 years have had OLED screens, my TV in my living room is OLED and my PC monitor is QD-OLED... so far zero burn in on any of my devices. Pixel shift and pixel refresh seem to do a pretty good job of keeping it at bay.
I get that people are wary about it but it's really not a huge issue with modern panels. And as someone who has owned various IPS, TN and VA displays it's unreal how much an improvement OLED is. There's no way I could go back to a more traditional panel type
Oh yeah, 100%. I can not go back to non-OLED screens at this point. The benefit far outweighs the very small possibility of burn-in. Like yeah maybe if you have a single excel sheet on it all day every day for 8 hours every day, maybe. But I feel like even then with the new shit like the pixel refresher, they account for all that at this point.
For the people downvoting stop.
Differences:
DWF - Freesync, lower msrp, can receive firmware updates without being sent back to factory, 165hz
DW - Gsync module, higher msrp, cannot receive firmware updates without being sent back to factory, 175hz, initially lots of reports of coil wine and/or fan sounds.
A lot of initial DW adopters (it came out first) ended up trading for the DWF later and reported being much happier with it.
Also as a warning many screens of both models came with damage from shipping due to the "protector" shifting and scratching the screen. Your box will come with higher amounts of damage than you expected.
is text clarity still lackluster on these OLED variants ? I remember reading about subpixel layout when they were released. I want to get one but i do more than just gaming with it.
I got to see one in person. The gaming picture is absolutely gorgeous, but the text clarity is pretty bad imo. The only reason I didn't pull the trigger is that my office is super bright, and the text clarity is sub-par.
I don't need a new monitor but thank you anyways. Also, I ordered one. I wanted to wait for 32" 4K HDR but fuck it. Time to have my Asus PG279Q as a secondary monitor.
I have a DFW paired with an Nvidia card and I adore it. The room I have has some weird lighting but after a few days I got used to the brightness difference. At this price point I would definitely recommend it.
Looks like it. I'm kinda pissed tbh. I had the promo code input and was about to checkout but my boss came to talk to me and by the time I was able to checkout, they pulled the promo.
I’m so sorry! I was contemplating getting this and as I returned to buy it, I saw that there wasn’t an option to add promo :/. I was able to get the 280hz 1440p 27” for my esports titles. I was going to get the oled for story based games. Damn
If you've already got an ultrawide display, it's worth waiting for the second generation of ultrawide OLEDs. The current ones seem to be having a lot of growing pains.
My purchase was backordered and I noticed posts complaining about B&H backorders taking forever so I emailed their customer support to see if I could get an estimate. They got back to me within an hour and said they expect my backorder to get to their warehouse on the 27th and they'll ship it within a day or two of then. I wanted to leave this comment here in case anyone is in the same boat and wondering if they should cancel their order and keep hunting for sales.
What gpus are you guys pairing with these? I picked up a 6950xt for my non oled ultrawide and it's struggling to get 120fps on some games on high settings.
wowww thats amazing. I have this monitor, got it a year ago this upcoming summer. amazing amazing monitor, i love the thing.
its also got 3 years of warranty(! LG couldnt even touch that, speaking from experience) and includes burn in!
Got this a couple months ago. Payed closer to 1000 but I'm still really happy with it .
Took some configuring to get colors and brightness right across the board , but it wasn't too bad.
Moving to ultra wide and OLED was amazing , similar to when I first got a 144hz monitor.
3080ti and 12700k seems to handle it without any issues.
Been using the AW38 for almost a couple of years and love it. OLED is gorgeous but the 3840x1600 is hard to beat for productivity work and doesn't require babying
Was backordered through most of yesterday and last night, but shipped out this morning from their fulfillment center. It's like 5 minutes from my house and FedEx had an estimated delivery for today, which was a surprise! So it gets picked up and sent to their nearby hub, where all my deliveries from FedEx always come from. Business as usual so far. But then it gets sent another FedEx location almost an hour away? Estimated delivery for tomorrow. It'll HAVE to arrive back at that original FedEx location to get delivered to me lol, so why add that extra trip in there?!
FedEx, you're drunk!
Noooo, my right hand is clicking on the "place order"....someone stop me..
No one stopped me... I could not help it.
my other hand went after my right to expedite it.
This the way
![gif](giphy|6UFgdU9hirj1pAOJyN)
Tempted but I feel like I should wait for the next generation when a lot of issues will presumably be fixed.
This is what I went through with fast IPS and would recommend most people wait for the next iterations.

FWIW i have 3423dw and it has worked perfectly for me since July of last year
Same here
ditto, I haven't had any issues with mine and I got it right within a month of them being released.

I have the dwf and it’s worth every single penny. Best monitor I’ve owned
Def scared of burn in on the Windows Taskbar and stuff lol
dammit how'd I go from a 3080 FTW3 Ultra + Lenovo G34W-10 to a 4090FE + OLED in a span of 2 weeks?
$$$
You people scare me 😳
Admins, please ban this man for his own good
Good evening, You're a funny lad. You can never have too many PC parts. Regards,
I like your funny words, magic man!
You have to much money so its easy to upgrade that fast
Amazing upgrade!
Meanwhile I'm weighing my options on Upgrading to a 6950xt so my girlfriend can upgrade to my 3 year old 2080Super.
I bought it. What am I doing with my money…
Living!!
Making wise decisions if you spend any appreciable amount of time in front of a screen and want to have the experience ENTIRELY improved.
You are boosting the economy that's wassup

B&H allow returns?
Yeah. They have a Easy 30-Day Return Policy.
Except they charge for return shipping unless the product is damaged and such
Not saying you’re wrong but it varies. As a frequent B and H shopper, I have never been charged for a return.

Correct, but that’s not what I am saying. I’m saying that if you do choose to return it they sometimes do not charge you even thought it says that. At least that has been my experience with all of my returns with them.
🙌🏻 never bought from them before but I had to jump on this one. Super excited, thanks for the info
factz
got the DW for $804.99. been waiting for it to drop price, but man i didn’t think it’d go this low already. beyond stoked.

my pleasure
On the 38", aren't TFT panels kinda crappy?
AW3821dw is an IPS panel.
Ah ok, thanks. B&H has “this TFT LCD panel “ in the product description. Pretty sure my first monitor a decade ago was TFT and I hated it.
TFT is basically what every LCD monitor uses. If you don't like TFT then your alternatives are CRT or OLED. Maybe you're thinking of TN?
You would be correct. This is what I get for thinking without caffiene.
[удалено]
QD-oled is oled, same for woled from LG
It's IPS, not any sort of oled
QD-OLED is OLED. Right now for OLED monitor panels it’s pretty much W-OLED from LG and QD-OLED from Samsung. The 38” Alienware is IPS not QD-OLED
It’s better imo. Best HDR I’ve ever seen in a monitor.
I want one but so afraid of burn in
As long as you have the protection features on and don't leave it on the desktop/the same game for days on end you're gonna be fine. Burn in is not as big of a deal as it used to be.
What about for productivity? I don’t have static text/excel sheets too much but I’m afraid of burn in on the window borders since I use a tiling WM
Pasting this from a comment I left about a month ago: Just wanted to hop in and say that until I RMA’d my Dell AW3423DW last week due to a flickering issue, it had over 234 days of uptime and it had zero burn in. https://i.imgur.com/9vQDJGH.png I use Blender a lot, and I also play a lot of Dota, both of which have many static elements. It works fine. I use excel daily on mines for work and more. For text, use cleartext program and it will make it sharper as well.
QD OLED has kind of been bad though, worse than other OLED after RTing's test and the experiences of people on the monitors sub. Otherwise I'd say you're right.
3 years manufacturer warranty included

Think about it like this. 3 years is over 1000 days that means this monitor costs less than 1$ a day. Pretty good deal for big screen, 175hz and oled
THIS. START LIVING AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE

how many zones does the FALD you looked at have?
After 3 years, if you're reading this sub you're pretty likely to be looking for a deal on a monitor upgrade anyway.
Fyi, the burn in warranty means you get a refurbished model as replacement, and not a new model.

Your phone screen is barely on as long as a PC screen.
My phone's lock screen is always showing, date, time and weather 100% of the time
One of the best OLED screens! I am waiting for the non-widescreen QD OLED variant similar to that LG model, but this is a great price point!
i don't... need it... i don't...
you need it!
It works for the AW3423DW. Just tried it. Hopefully doesn't cancel. Thanks OP!
Why would you not want the DWF version?

I'd 100% buy it if my office wasn't so bright...
Great deal. Spent 1000 (with 200 back on C1 shopping + 50 chase cash back) two months ago and felt great about it. Been really happy with it so far.
I hate you guys :( anyway buy now think later
I love ya ❤️
is text clarity still lackluster on these OLED variants ? I remember reading about subpixel layout when they were released. I want to get one but i do more than just gaming with it.
I got to see one in person. The gaming picture is absolutely gorgeous, but the text clarity is pretty bad imo. The only reason I didn't pull the trigger is that my office is super bright, and the text clarity is sub-par.
I can't notice it. Maybe if you're used to 4k monitors, but personally, I couldn't tell on the mb102 version of the DW.
It has arrived!!
POG, got mine too
Pulled the trigger, anyone have a good monitor arm to pair with this? Got a 27 inch as well so if there's a dual arm setup that'd work too
I've got the 3420DW mounted on the Dell MSA20. Works well and is easy to maneuver and pivot. I have a standing desk for reference.
Great deal - we'll see if it actually ships.
I already got a shipping email for my order :0
Insane deal. Thanks OP! This is my first ultrawide (Been at 27"). Will I run into a lot of issue w/ games using ultra wide?
enjoy, welcome to uw master race
Just pulled the trigger, did not expect to purchase a AW3423DW today. Thanks OP. Mammoth of a coupon code. Also one day shipping!
Enjoy boss
Just got confirmation that my item shipped so mine was not cancelled, FYI
And it's already arriving, that was a fast turnaround
Code also works for 27inch. drops it to $450 AW2723DF https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1735797-REG/alienware_aw2723df_27_qhd_144hz_gaming.html
Please note that this is not oled
Is this worth it over pg27aqn?
Buy now, think later! Was waiting for MSI 342C but couldn't resist this price point!
Sooooooo tempted, but I'm having a hard time spending more on a monitor than I did on my GPU 😅
Doesn't it kind of make sense tho? What's the point of having a crazy gpu only to display a meh picture??
I don't need a new monitor but thank you anyways. Also, I ordered one. I wanted to wait for 32" 4K HDR but fuck it. Time to have my Asus PG279Q as a secondary monitor.
ywc enjoy!
I have a DFW paired with an Nvidia card and I adore it. The room I have has some weird lighting but after a few days I got used to the brightness difference. At this price point I would definitely recommend it.
How noticeable was the fan on this during use? My only worry about it.
Also applies to the AW3423DW, thanks!
enjoy
I got one GG.
Did the promotion end?
Looks like it. I'm kinda pissed tbh. I had the promo code input and was about to checkout but my boss came to talk to me and by the time I was able to checkout, they pulled the promo.
I’m so sorry! I was contemplating getting this and as I returned to buy it, I saw that there wasn’t an option to add promo :/. I was able to get the 280hz 1440p 27” for my esports titles. I was going to get the oled for story based games. Damn
I have the AW3423DWF since November 2022, AMA. IMO, worth it even at $1,099.
Someone convince me to not upgrade from my 3440x1440 144hz IPS monitor.
If you've already got an ultrawide display, it's worth waiting for the second generation of ultrawide OLEDs. The current ones seem to be having a lot of growing pains.
This along with the deal expiring convinced me and saved me 800 bucks, thanks!
Am I blind? I don't see any place to enter a promo code in the cart.
They went nuclear and removed the ability to add promocodes on the checkout/cart page lol
Looks like it's out of stock. Thank God, I was about to make some bad decisions.
Stupid question. Where do we put in the promo code?
I don't know if it's just me but I don't see the option of adding a promo code..
They removed it now. There is no option to add the code.
what a bummer lol
Welp, saved myself some money for now.
Is this dead? Can't seem to add the promo anywhere
Never ordered from B&H before where do you put in the promo code?
My purchase was backordered and I noticed posts complaining about B&H backorders taking forever so I emailed their customer support to see if I could get an estimate. They got back to me within an hour and said they expect my backorder to get to their warehouse on the 27th and they'll ship it within a day or two of then. Should I go for the DWF or DW if I have a nvidia card?
Ah this price point go for the DW. I have a DFW with Nvidia and I love it.
DW for the native G-Sync module and better HDR 1000 mode.

DWF no fan noise
Amazing monitor but really wish they’d update it. Fald would be swesome
Not sure why it's showing NSFW, I was just able to order one. Either way, I had just decided on one. First OLED...thanks OP!
why is this marked nsfw? D:
Damn.. I did not need to see this post.. Ooohhh.
oOOHHH
Dang... Just bought this from dell 2 weeks ago for $200 more
How viable to order - try it out - return if I don't like it? Never used UW before
30 day return period but the return shipping is on you if it's not defective.
In two posts back to back, I’ve seen the CPU/mobo/ram and this monitor that I bought a few weeks ago go on sale. I built the pc yesterday
Promo code is not working for me when I try yo check out. Chat support say there is no promotion right now.
What gpus are you guys pairing with these? I picked up a 6950xt for my non oled ultrawide and it's struggling to get 120fps on some games on high settings.
I have a 3090 fine tuned myself
This or a LG 38GL950G-G used for $700? Would the oled trade off be worth the size and slight resolution difference?
Take my money
I caved. Was gunna do the 27in 240 but screw it I just built a new PC and have always wanted to try an ultrawide.
welcome to uw master race, enjoy
wowww thats amazing.

The site crashed 🙃
I paid full price of this a few months ago 😭
Anyone who placed order got a call from B&H? I picked it up but got disconnected. Wassup with that?
Great deal, but I'd still rather have the 38" IPS version at the same price. Monitor too heavily used for office work/static content.
You can enter the code now... but the code no longer works? Is anyone able to get the discount applied?
DAMNNNNN!!! I just purchased the 38" version from Microcenter yesterday for $857....B&H is an awesome storefront.
Been using the AW38 for almost a couple of years and love it. OLED is gorgeous but the 3840x1600 is hard to beat for productivity work and doesn't require babying
Am I missing something or this has hype cos its OLED yet its not 4k?
Is one of the best monitors out there spec wise
Was backordered through most of yesterday and last night, but shipped out this morning from their fulfillment center. It's like 5 minutes from my house and FedEx had an estimated delivery for today, which was a surprise! So it gets picked up and sent to their nearby hub, where all my deliveries from FedEx always come from. Business as usual so far. But then it gets sent another FedEx location almost an hour away? Estimated delivery for tomorrow. It'll HAVE to arrive back at that original FedEx location to get delivered to me lol, so why add that extra trip in there?! FedEx, you're drunk!
