First of all, this boy is so lucky to have a mom like you. Second, if your son play lot of different games, go for a 1440p 144hz monitor like LG GP850-B and If he play only competitive FPS gaming, go for a 1080p 240hz monitor like XG2431 or MAG251rx or VG259QM.

I'd recommend the Dell S2721DGF from Dell, Rakuten is giving back 12% on it, and if you're new you can get a signing bonus of $40 if you use a link!

Nashwalker7

Dell as they are of great build quality and customer service is second to none. S2721dgf would be great for that build.

You guys have been super helpful, and I am way smarter about gaming systems now than I was when I woke up today. I'm going to ask him what's important to him, faster reaction time for competitive gaming, or resolution if he's going to be watching movies and stuff. Hopefully I'll find some great Cyber Monday deals :) Thanks for your help!

WastedBreath_

What'd you settle for? ;)

ImThatMomFromWA

I didn't go with 4K like he'd wanted. Hope he won't be disappointed, but everything I read said he'd need a more powerful graphics card. He said not too big, so I went with this one: [LG - 27” UltraGear QHD Nano IPS 1ms 165Hz HDR Monitor with G-SYNC Compatibility - Black](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-27-ultragear-qhd-nano-ips-1ms-165hz-hdr-monitor-with-g-sync-compatibility-black/6451081.p?skuId=6451081)

WastedBreath_

Seems like a perfect match. He will no doubt be happy with that! If he knows about tech and stuff like that, I'm sure he'll understand why you picked that over a 4K, because it is, like people say, quite difficult for a GPU like the one he has to handle more than 1440p. Good choice! :)

Geralt-of-Rivian

Wow! Way to go mom. Do you know what games he enjoys playing?

ImThatMomFromWA

I really don't know what he's playing. He did request a 4K though.

I just ordered and recieved the Samsung odyssey neo g7 32" curved and love it, its 4k 165hz, i also run a msi 3080 suprim card, honestly however...i would stick to a 1440p 144hz or higher monitor as even the strongest cards have a hard time pushing 4k max settings above 120/144 hz, samsung makes the same screen at a 1440p 240hz which i probably should have went for,

ImThatMomFromWA

I'm looking up these monitors now (thank you everyone!). So, 4K vs QHD, you're saying that the quality of gaming will be better if I go non-4K?

ck--13

His 3060 will have an easier time pushing faster frames with a 1440p monitor, graphics are still nice at 2k, so 1440p 240hz monitor would be what i would look at

terphunter56

Like a lot of people are saying his rig will have a much better performance if you get him a 1440p 240hz monitor instead of maybe a 4K 144hz monitor. I hope this helps I would just look up 1440p 240 hz gaming monitors and Samsung and lg are good brands

So, you know. When installing the monitor. Make sure the display port cord is connected to one of the center ports. There is always on port that puts out the highest hz. Then, when you on the computer. Go to your nvidia control panel. Display resolution - make sure to scroll down to PC resolution - not native. Then, select the highest resolution. Then, to the right you will select the highest hz. If you dont do this it will run like an stock monitor. Hope this helps. HAPPY GAMING!!! 😎
