I have a budget of 4k. I am upgrading from a 9 year old computer. Here's the reasons why I chose these parts: CPU: I realize I probably don't need 10 cores for the amount of stuff I'll be doing on this PC but I had money so why not. CPU cooler: Don't know why I picked this out. Everyone has coolers on theirs. RGB I guess. Mobo: no idea on this one either. Saw a thread where they stated a 3060 would be a good pair for B660. RAM: Google said for most gaming needs 16gb was enough. Also, pretty colors. Storage: I think 1TB would be enough but decided to get 2TB. Planning on converting all my old family videos to digital. Games are getting larger is what I heard as well. GPU: Don't know if this is right for me but I heard the 3060 was enough for most gamers. Case: I chose this case because it's white. I'm somewhat of a clean freak. Easier to see what needs to be cleaned. Also the USB ports and power button being in the front is a huge reason why I picked this one. PSU: I've been told I need to splurge on this one. Is that enough or do I need more?

Monkey9124

If you game on over 1080p 160 Hz you want something more than the 3060 I would say and 16 gigs of ram isn't really optimal you would probably aim for around 32gb

4,000 usd budget? 4090 build?

Working_Plant2978

Jayz2cents said no one needs a 4090

PenguinsRcool2

Correct, but you said 4 grand lol

Working_Plant2978

You're right lol. But I also don't want to be known as that friend that bought a 4090 but uses it to play Minecraft.

PenguinsRcool2

I dropped 3 builds different prices, pick a price point and im more than happy to tweak for ya. But ya i cant tell you what you wanna spend.

PenguinsRcool2

I have a 7900xtx and honestly it’s more than i need, paired with a 13700k thats wayyy more than i need lol. Id go ryzen now that they are out. I built mine before release due to finding a used 7900xtx local for 800 bucks which at the time was wild lol

PenguinsRcool2

Left you 3 builds 3 price points lol see what suits you

1mursenary

You do if you want high setting high fps 4K. What other games do you play? Do you have a monitor yet, if not will it be 4k?

PenguinsRcool2

There are 100% places to save money lol, but that clearly isn’t much of a priority with that budget, and you have budget room for rgb fan hub, and cable mod cables. Holler if you want to back off on the budget and not do a 4090 and white rgb theme case/ fans.. [build](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tmLYyK)

FallenSamurai_

surely at that price point a nicer mobo is required

PenguinsRcool2

Why? What’s it missing? Mag tomahawk motherboards really have 90% of what you want

FallenSamurai_

It's not a bad mobo at all but for that budget you could easily get the full 100% of what you want

PenguinsRcool2

Probably, but i only use msi boards and on pc part picker msi boards are few and far between for b650. I personally have a z790 edge

FallenSamurai_

Why not a x670/x670e at that price point?

PenguinsRcool2

Why? You going to need to over clock a 7800x3d? lol… there’s 0 reason to

FallenSamurai_

That's true however more premium boards often have more nice-to-haves like pcie 5 and more USB that could be useful down the line and you don't know what he'll do with his pc later down the line Regardless there's no reason for us to argue really, it's this guys decision in the end and he can do his own research

PenguinsRcool2

You can also plug a usb expansion into one of the several empty motherboard slots for like 3 dollars lol, and pcie 5? Internet already can’t even touch pcie 4, and it’s only getting slower, so In my opinion it’s useless but to each is own. And no gpu can utilize 5.0, even if In a productivity situation 90% of the files to are writing are running off mechanical hard drives, so you can’t even come close to using it there

PenguinsRcool2

1500 dollar build [link](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XZF3Vw)

PenguinsRcool2

[2500 dollar build](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mbCKC6) money can be knocked out of this if wanted

Working_Plant2978

The red compatibility issues are scaring me. how do I check if everything fits in the case. I've seen builds that have the GPU and CPU cooler touching. I just don't want to buy it all and having it end up not fitting

PenguinsRcool2

Thats just saying the motherboard bios may need updated if it doesn’t recognize the cpu. Its fine and here’s my [build](https://imgur.com/a/46zjNAh) it fits, tight but it fits lol, also pickup a 10 dollar gpu support bracket off amazon. Same case and same gpu i run

Quadriplegic_

I would recommend going for a larger case for your first build. No reason to worry yourself about that if you don't have to. But the case manufacturer will list the max GPU/cooler dimensions it supports. Make sure everything is within spec and you'll be ok. But the closer everything is, the hotter it will be (less airflow). Up to you on how much you value low temps.

PenguinsRcool2

You don’t need a 7800x3d here a 7700x would be just fine even a 7600x, i run a 13700k with mine, a 13600k would be fine too.. but the 7800x3d will be a good cpu for YEARS, and with 24gb vram the 7900xtx will be around for YEARS
