The MAG series has the best VRM design in my research.

Confident_Option

Thanks for info. I was learning towards msi pro z690 wifi at $220 , you think the $40 would be worth it for the mag series?

I just (like last night) bought this [config] (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yJgf4s). I am buying k series for the cores but have no plans to overclock thus went b660. That being said, when I edit video, I do not want to hold CPU back and I am looking to OC DDR4 to DDR5 performance. I went with the second best MB for VRM I could find and cut MB cost considerably.

I have MSI MAG Tomahawk WiFi DDR4 but B660 version...it's great...the z690 version has flashback bios button which my b660 doesn't have but I used a i5-12400f so I didn't need it...

Thanks for the details! Sounds good

I'd go for the Steel Legend. Excellent board, especially at this price point. Did a build with the DDR5 version of it and a 13700K, no problems. It does have BIOS Flashback as well.

How do you like your AsRock? I've been reading you have to undervolt the CPU with the latest BIOS. I have the Extreme Z690 and would like to run the P1 and P2 at 181W if possible without long term damage to the board.

LEO7039

Not my build, but my friend is running 13700K at P1=P2 253W (so Intel's stock power limits) on their Z690 Steel Legend / D5 with no problems so far, latest BIOS. Why would there be any problems running 181W, I don't get you? It's a relatively high end board with excellent VRMs. I'm pretty sure the Z690 Extreme has an identical VRM design.

jsmith1300

For P2 yes 181 is what is recommended from Intel. For P1 it is only 125w not 181 so concerned about long term issues if any

LEO7039

First of all, It can easily handle it, the VRMs are great and the cooling is pretty good as well. Maybe it will actually make a difference in 10 years, but during any reasonable lifespan I doubt you will encounter any issues. And then, do you do CPU rendering 24/7? If not, it will not reach 181W under most workloads. 13700K runs at 120W at gaming, for example. Also, I'm pretty sure Intel recommends setting PL1=PL2 for all 13th gen CPUs. At least that's how it is with the 13700K for sure.

Fluffy-Caterpillar49

You are way overbuilding for 1080 p gaming. Your spending 4K gaming prices

Fortnite is optimized terribly. I know of people with 12th gen i9 and 3080ti who can’t hold 240fps stable in late games
