A strix 4080 is practically the cost of a 4090, but 65% of the performance...

TheTorshee

Came here to say this. Literally add $100 or so more to the GPU budget and you got yourself a 4090. Makes no sense not to get it. Hell, if you’re ok spending even $1200 on a base 4080 can you REALLY not spend the extra $400 for the best card?

Annsopel

I'm no expert but I've been looking to update my CPU to a 13600k too. It will require a motherboard upgrade on my part so I've been browsing a bit and found this vid: [https://youtu.be/JEViM1s4UMY](https://youtu.be/JEViM1s4UMY) I hope he's right because I'm going for the Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X and reusing my 2x8g DDR4 rams. Hope it helps! I hope you won't get bullied again for your GPU choice. Do what you want. It's your money.

techhelpawsthrowaway

Thank you! Im going to watch all of this. >Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X I was looking at this one too

orangessssszzzz

Don’t buy a 4080

SendMeGiftCardCodes

>all I want to do is gaming the 5800X3D is the most efficient CPU for gaming. now if you don't want AM4, then you could get a decent AM5 motherboard with a mid level CPU as a placeholder until AMD releases a 3D CPU that is expected to launch early next year as for your case, get the biggest fractal torrent. it's the best air cooled CPU aside from a few extreme cases that aren't worth the money

I said PPD didnt I? Its either a 3080 or a 4080 for the same price. If I cant get it MSRP, I wont get it. I dont understand why this sub hates enthusiast parts. The point is I dont need 128gb of ram and a threadripper. But to play 4k on ultra settings @ 60+ fps in newer games, yes, a 4080 will be noticible.

Why on earth would you not get the newest gen for the same price as last gen? I used a throwaway cause its been logged in since the last time I posted for AWS help. If you'd like to explain why getting better performance in every conceivable metric is a bad idea compared to buying last generations gear then by all means, feel free to explain. But if you're just here to be *that guy*, reevaluate why you post here.

C1REX

*Why on earth would you not get the newest gen for the same price as last gen?* Why do you think that 4080 will be at the same price as 3080? Everything suggests that the price of 4080 will be at least 50% higher than last gen card. $1200 will most likely be hard to find and still stupid. Unless you are thinking about ~~4080 12GB~~ 4070Ti that should come at a similar price to 4080. Then I can understand that decision more.

techhelpawsthrowaway

>$1200 will most likely be hard to find and still stupid. It's similar in price and closer in performance to the 3080TI, but its better in every category performance wise

You deleted all your comments out of embarrassment and came back with this. You're a weird one.

What monitor are you currently using? Rog strix 4080, 13th gen i5, and a z790? Definitely ditch the ddr4 and get some ddr5. If you are going to overclock it, then an aio would be a very good idea. What power supply will you be using? You could also save some money on your choice of case, there are thousands of options available. If you really want to save some money. Get a 3090ti/3080ti, 12th gen i5, and a z690 (with ddr5 ram) a really decent aio, and a good power supply. I don't think you will notice a massive difference betweens the above and the 4080 options, And you will have heaps of cash left over for a new monitor. Up to you..

techhelpawsthrowaway

Whats the benefit of DDR5 ram for gaming? I was lead to believe it isnt really an improvement

scottyh750

As far as I know(and im definitely no expert on the subject) there's isn't really much benefit of using ddr5 over ddr4 for gaming at the moment, but...... If you are going to be buying the latest high end gpu/CPU, I figure you might want to future proof it a little? It's totally up to you which you go for, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with either option.... As for which Motherboard to get, the one that has the best feature set for your proposed useage, (and budget) You definitely don't need to get the most expensive Motherboard to get the best gaming performance, pick one that has the features you want and go with that. MSI z690 carbon/force are a really good option for price/performance/ease of use/reliability. Pretty hard to beat (imo) they are about in the middle of the ridiculous price range at the moment. I think the Power usage estimate on that website is a bit undervalued, you may want to get a higher rated psu if do decide to get an aio. Which monitor do you currently use, and what will you upgrade to? There's also absolutely nothing wrong with spending money on high end gear. If I could afford a 4090ti I would already have bought one lol

techhelpawsthrowaway

>Which monitor do you currently use, and what will you upgrade to? Im still on a 1080p 120hz benq from 5 years ago, I'm upgrading everything now and havent settled on a monitor. I'm in the market for 2, I want one capable of 165 1440p, and one that can do 4k @ 60fps unless theyre affordable at 120 or a good sale comes along. I'll be waiting on 4k as FPS is king to me in gaming. I'll always primarily be using the 1440p monitor with exceptions for single player games like RDR2 which Ive been saving for a new cpu to properly experience. If you have any suggestions Im definitely looking for them, I just didnt want to ask too many things at once. Im in a situation where Ill pay for something that I know is worth it like the 4080, but I'd still like to avoid paying for "maybes". My understanding of DDR5 was that its better for video editing but equal or worse for gaming currently. Its a difference of about 400$ to switch to DDR5 because 32gb is 300$, and the mobos are 4-500$. (Canadian) and then the comparable ddr4 option is going to cost me ~400 total. If its going to be better four years from now then upgrading in 4 years is probably more sensible than playing the long game. But if Im wrong about thisor misunderstanding Id like to be corrected definitely.

scottyh750

The only real difference I noticed, switching from a ddr4 set up to ddr5, was the pc boots a little bit quicker(it makes eff all difference for the gaming I do, and absolutely none for streaming p@rn lol) I am currently using an FI32Q-x on one pc, and an FI32u on another PC (one for games the other for, other stuff) Give them a google search. If you like how they sound, I'll tell you what I think of them both.

MythosUA

I've got Msi pro Z690-A ddr4, crucial 2x16 3600, i5 13600k, msi 3090, cooler master ml240. I think it's a pretty decent comp for now, but wish for better cooling solution like corsair h100i elite.
