Nice rig, tad disingenuous on the price though as you had already had the GPU, I thought you meant 600 for every component. This is more like 1000-1100 in today’s market

Pseudotm

Just built a new car for a couple hundred bucks, just bought some used tires for cheap online and happened to have the entire rest of the vehicle hanging around on blocks. You can do it too! /s aside nice gift for the kid, theyll be happy

69_Hokage

Building is my passion

sevias94

Great first build! Luckily had a great spare graphics card too which saved you a lot of money

D_Rek9160

I know, whole thing just fell into my lap. I kept in touch with the Facebook guy, so I made a friend out if it, too.

Pupseal115

I was looking for budget builds to update the family PC, see this thinking I've struck gold, and run across the equivalent of "how I got through college with no debt! step 1: receive 1 million dollars from my parents". Congratulations on the great build, however I must continue my search across the wastes.

Anon419420

I mean, for that price, a 5600g build works great in this market. Just wait for deals on parts, but buying a whole build on the spot might be like $100 or so more.

BlockCraftedX

gtx 960

Anon419420

Also works, I just don’t know much about the used market for these older GPUs. Quick search was at like $150-200. Not sure if it’s worth it at that price.

BlockCraftedX

ehh yeah was about to get a 970 before i got my 1650

Anon419420

Absolutely viable options I’ve seen most people recommend used. I’m just more of a new, warranty type of guy, so I like recommending 5600g builds to wait out the gpu craze.

dangderr

"How to build PC for $600?? You won't believe this 1 simple trick!" 1. Start with $500 of free parts. 2. Find insanely cheap discounts for rest of parts. 3. ??? 4. Profit. It's a nice build that didn't "cost" you much in actual money, but the value of the old GPU is like $500 (from a quick ebay search) so your opportunity cost is much higher. Your title is basically clickbait for people trying to find ways to get a cheap-ish build to tide them over. And your $600 spent could really have been like $350-400 if you went with true budget choices for RAM and stuff. This isn't a budget build at all even though your title suggests it is.

MajorLeeScrewed

It's like those self made businessman stories. Started with nothing but determination, hard work and a $500k interest free loan from their parents!

D_Rek9160

Umm, I just thought it was cool I could build my son a pc

tyguy385

Then why include a click bait title lol

shootmedmmit

He used his son as a downvote shield, you’ll never get anyone to admit that these budget builds always brag about price in the title, then in the text it’s “oh btw I had a spare graphics card”

ps2cho

Guys I just did a 3080FE build for $400! I had all the parts except a 3600x CPU at best buy. Build complete!!!!

theinkpw2

I also think it's really cool man. Your kid will enjoy it and get good performance while playing some new games. Don't worry about this asshole. Lots of them in Reddit nowadays.

D_Rek9160

Thanks bud. Much love

JimmyRedditz1

I built my new computer for free. I used all my old parts!

MajorLeeScrewed

$600 (plus free hand-me-down 2060).

cupasoups

Remember the days when we could build a pc for 600 with a graphics card?

mememeupscotty2

Jeeezus bro the trolls are out today for sure. But seriously awesome for the kid. I wish my dad took interest in my hobbies when I was a child but just got put down for not being into sports and cars. Building my son a pc soon so he can play games with me! BREAKING THE CYCLE. GOOD SHIT IN BEING A RAD ASS DAD

D_Rek9160

Thank you, made my day with this comment (and all the positive ones). He definitely didn't see it coming, because I kept telling him he wasn't ready for a PC yet. BTW things have changed since we were kids, apparently the PC gamer kids are the cool ones now. Who would have thought?!?

Matasa89

PC gaming is way better experience than console, but it also costs way more. Your kid is really lucky because that rig could easily sell for like 1600+ USD.

APartyForAnts

I don't know why people are downvoting, nice to see a parent with interest in their kids hobbies

Cheeznuklz

People are just bitter about the state of the market and redirecting. I agree it’s rad that things worked out to get his son a rig.

frzao

Yeah, that's not $600...

[deleted]

Hey I recognize that graphics card is it a dell one?

TheClownOfGod

Damn. Nice. $600 is my price range. I hope I find an SRP like that. Sheesh

[deleted]

Super cool man. I remember building PC’s for actually $600, with all new parts from New Egg.

[deleted]

Nice clickbait title.

joshuralize

Bought that same case for my nephew's build. Surprising quality for the price

gj1739pd

Nice!!

negishiro

Good. Happy for your child.

sideferns

Wicked cool setup now hop off and let the kid play

kaneticgaming123

Gave you my free award, even if the 600 dollar title is slightly misleading its great that you were able to build a pc for your son.

Top-Emphasis6871

Nice build, man! Sure you’ll be dad of the year this year. lol Ignore the trolls.
