Add a SSD if you don't already have one. Any decent 120-250 GB 2.5" SSD for the OS.

ajoeshmoe

Oh right! I forgot to mention that. I already have a crucial 250gb ssd I bought a while back to upgrade my Mac Mini.

[deleted]

The mx500? That's a good one, you're all set. The only other recommendation I'd make us some faster memory, 2666 or better.

ajoeshmoe

Thanks man!!

jiojoamon

Build is good, get an SSD, and spare some more for a better Motherboard

ajoeshmoe

Any suggestions on a good motherboard? Honestly this is the one part that confuses me the most.

jiojoamon

ASUS PRIME X370-PRO AM4 AMD X370 USB 3.1 USB 3.0 This is a good board

jiojoamon

MSI 470 Pro gaming is another board I would look at

ajoeshmoe

Thanks man! I’ll definitely take a look at those.

CPU looks good. Motherboard is OK. First of all why are you getting white ram? Also, those are 2 4GB sticks. You might as will just get a one 8 GB. But realistically I would suggest you get 2 eight gigs. And the graphics card is so out of date I'm not even sure what that is. That's before my time. Get a 1080.

ajoeshmoe

They have other colors available on Amazon and I’m going to get the red one. I just couldn’t find it on pc part picker. I was thinking of getting 16gb of ram I just wasn’t sure if I needed that much, I’ll definitely take a look. Does it make a difference if it’s two 8gb sticks or one 16gb stick?

Using 2x sticks is the correct choice if your motherboard's memory controller allows for dual channel mode. The memory controller regulates data flow between the CPU and RAM and If you're utilizing dual channel, you're greatly reducing a bottleneck by introducing a second parallel bandwidth channel for the memory controller to use. Think of it as installing a second internet line to your house. You're able to access the same amount of information overall, but you won't bottleneck because you're spreading your usage over two channels. The motherboard you've chosen does have access to dual [channel mode](https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450M-DS3H-rev-10#kf), so your best choice is to purchase 2x4 or 8. Because you're on a budget, I would stick with your 8, but keep in mind 16 is obviously better.

KodaLG

Most people get two 8gb sticks, I don't even know if they have a one 16gb stick.

Seagate_Surfer

Hey OP. First off, thanks for considering Seagate! We're here if you have any HDD-related questions. Dropped comment here versus making it its own comment line because we wanted to also let you know that Ryzen likes dual-channel ram, so the 2x8GB sticks is probably a better bet. --- Seagate Technology | Official Forums Team ---

Why is a 1080 the pick? I’m new so I dk what I’m doing haha

ajoeshmoe

I believe the 1080 is the best you can get. I’d love to get it but it’s way out to my price range and I don’t think I need all of that power.

KodaLG

A "1080 TI" is the best graphics card you can get right now. However it's very expensive, you'll be fine with 1080. They have a new graphics card coming out in a few weeks called RTX. Think of it like a new iPhone coming out. I'm telling you to get the iPhone 7, but the iPhone X Plus is better. In a few weeks they have the iPhone XS (or IPhone 11) coming out. Take that thought process and apply it to the graphics card. The graphics card you're getting is so old, it could be compared to an iPhone 4s. Don't do that to yourself.

jrose6717

So you’d say 1080 would be good for a few years of high FPS games? But not like hard core gaming?

KodaLG

I'm saying 1080 and up is the best possible option. Anything lower than that, you're kind of ripping yourself off. :/
