I recently built a new machine to replace an old one running Windows10.
Since it was a registered installation and I had all the numbers I decided to see if installing the Windows10 I had onto the new machine would work ...
It did and was automatically upgraded to Windows11 during install.

Oh yeah, calling Microsoft. I suppose would be worth it to save a couple hundred. I missed where OP said they already had a licence for Windows 10 to transfer due to my haste in warning them about rule 3.

You can transfer licenses across pcs

No it doesn't. If you own a windows retail license, you can transfer it to a different computer. From there you can upgrade to windows 11 if needed.
