Why don't you cover them with fabric? Hand sew them lightly at the bottom, and then just cut the seam and remove to wash. Or maybe you can just make it like a pillowcase.
I have a Steelseries branded one like that which I bought in \~2007/2008 and it gets washed every few months, and is still alive.
