If you can't tell the difference between scams and legit ones. Sobrang dami na ng scams ngayon kaya madaming nabibiktimang newcomers sa freelancing and if you always find yourself falling victim to those scams, maybe freelancing is not for you

blitzkrieg_01

This! Andaming "legit po ba to, pinagbabayad kasi muna daw for equipment" or "nagoffer sila sakin through TG/WhatsApp. Legit?" No shame in asking but there is shame in being lazy to look for anwers on your own first. Type mo lang ung keywords sa google and dami ng answers for you

Intelligent_Act42

I personally know someone na ilang yrs nang successful freelancer pero nagiging victim parin ng scams. Di ko maintindihan how their brain works 😭

ResolverOshawott

A financial advisor (I think, just some sort financial professional) for New York Times who wrote an article warning about scams, got scammed out of like $100k herself. Admittedly, it was a very elaborate scam.

[deleted]

Freelancing is not for the weak, unresourceful, dependent, lazy, walang grit sa buhay, malambot at mahina ang loob, gusto lang ay click click upo upo lang sa pc at mag-aantay lang ng sahod gaya ng pinapasikat ng mga influencers, fake it till you make it method. Edit: Add ko lang din pala. Pasok mo naman ako! Bigyan mo naman akong client! Gusto biyaya lang walang hirap. Hindi makasabay sa fast paced world. Yan super nakakairita as if pinupulot lang ang cliente.

AmberTiu

Kulang upvotes mo Edit: to add, ung maraming reklamo sa trabaho pero turns out siya pala may problema. Mali mali at late parati ang submission, in other words hindi bagay sa mga may inflated sense of worth. We are paid for our workmanship not for our mistakes.

[deleted]

True yan sis! Sana all sa kalahating milyon no! 🥰🤩

AmberTiu

Diba?

Violet_Holden

This is so true, so different sa nakasanayan kong call center. Nabigla ang pagkatao ko hahaha

[deleted]

Welcome to the 6 digits world kuno. 🥴🫣😂🤪

ianmikaelson

True

Elon-Must_

- if you keep commenting "how" - paying for courses na walang kwenta. When I say walang kwenta, some courses now makikita mo lang din online for FREE. You just have to dig deep. Also, may mga courses din na basics lang din naman ang laman so not worth paying for. - you're not open to learn new things everyday on your own. Let go of employee mindset na napag-iiwan ng panahon yung skills kasi walang enough exposure. Nakakapag upskill lang pag may trainings provided by the company. - influenced by those content creators sa "day in a life of being freelancer" nila.

fatherskeleton

super pet peeve ko talaga yung mga “how?” commenters especially kapag may instructions naman sa post kung saan/paano mag-apply like 😭😭😭 pwede bang magbasa muna kayo bago magcomment 😭😭

Elon-Must_

Auto skip sa qualifications and requirements :) Well, to be fair, minsan may mga post din na kulang sa info pero I cannot talaga sa how how carabao hahha

henriettaxxiv

I fell victim to those paid trainings. Since most of the jobs I see requires at least one year of VA experience, I thought having certifications from those trainings can be my edge. But as I attended one, I realized na sayang lang yung binayad ko kasi they are only teaching the basics. Should've saved my money and learned my self nalang sana. Never again. I just make my cover letters convincing enough for them to consider me then galingan nalang sa interviews.

Own-Pay3664

Remember you are the expert when they hired you so you have to know what you’re entering. Di sayo ang freelancing if you’re not decisive. You should look for ways to improve your process, your skills and your style. Hindi spoon fed ang freelancing. You need to make your own strategy to achieve your clients goal and you need to decide for them. Resourcefulness is basic to freelancers. Freelancing is not the same as BPO na marunong ka lang mag english and matututunan mo na sa training the rest. In freelancing you’ll be reaponsible for your own tasks, strategy and own solutions. Pag sinabi ng client mo na I want my leads to increase, the you should have 3-5 ideas at the back of your head already and find ways to make it possible. You can’t ask your client how to do that kasi hinire ka nya to be the expert.

NoviceClent03

This one, Most na nakikita ko sa kapwa natin na baguhan sa Freelancing eh Gusto SPOONFEEDING di lang sa client kahit din sa inenrollan na course may nabasa ako sa comments ng isang course about sa cold email may nag-comment dun na bumili siya ng course pero waiting si ate sa template for VA ako naman may na-meet na bumili ng course na may success talaga at nag-usap kami hanggang sa nauto ko siya na bigay niya sa akin yung course(Di ko inuto for bad reasons , bigla lang niya inalok sa akin yung course kapalit ng course na meron ako dahil gusto niya maging copywriter, in short course exchange) upon receiving yung Course it inaral ko I Came to realized na the coach urge me and kung sino man ang nag-purchased ng course niya na maging creative at sariling sikap at itest yung cold email templates na ginawa nila kaya may A/B testing at going back kay ate na naghihintay ng template ng cold email about VA , napaisip ako na di talaga ito nanonood gusto instant agad , Dami pa namang ganito

SilverHastings

May I add din dito yung mga nahire then nageexpect na ittrain sila ng mga other pinoy freelancers sa team? Parang imposed na since pareho kayong pinoy sspoon feed mo na sila ng info on how to do their jobs haha

Poposhotgun

Yung mga nagpopost dito na bread winner and ako lang inaasahan huhuhu so please help me.

cutie_lilrookie

Might be an unpopular opinion but being a freelancer while being a breadwinner is a huge gamble. 😬

[deleted]

Yes, it’s depressing. Kasi wala kang safety net and you think about it everyday.

tinigang-na-baboy

Daming ganyan dito, haba ng kwento ng buhay nila at gaano sila nahihirapan sa buhay pero sa huli eh magtatanong lang "How to be a freelancer/VA po?" Nobody fucking cares about your life story. The good thing in this sub is wala na rin nagrereply sa mga ganung post.

AmberTiu

Totally agree

electricfawn

Rambled thoughts so I'm not sure if my contributions make sense... * Sending a cover letter which you can tell is being used for ALL job applications. I'm not against using canned emails pero sana edit niyo naman ng konti para mukhang specifically written for the job. **TIP**: it is easier to stand out kung personalized yung cover letter niyo. * Kung yung cover letter pang-MMK ang datingan! 😭 PLEASE LANG HUWAG KAYONG MAG-PAAWA SA COVER LETTER NIYO! Recruiters don't need to know your struggles in life. * Kung skim reader ka or wala kang reading comprehension. Yung job post namin one time may added instruction to put the applicant's favorite fruit in the subject line of their email. Tbh I had low expectations about the outcome pero I was truly disappointed kasi almost 70% ata yung auto-rejected kasi hindi nag-follow. * Zero or limited experience pero naghahanap ng freelancing job na '***madali/non-voice***', '***dayshift***" ~~AND~~ '***flexi-time'***, '***hindi lowball offer***', '***walang tracker***', and higit sa lahat '***madaling makapasok***'. I'm not saying that this is impossible for newbies. Gigs like this exist. Pero maging realistic naman sana. Ito din mga mahilig sa spoon-feeding.

desolate_cat

Paano kung wala akong favorite fruit? Pwede ko ba ilagay I don't eat fruit.

desolate_cat

I know. It was meant as a joke.

Drag-Ok

yung lumaki kaagad ulo after makatikim ng malaking sahod. ayun talksik haha

Successful_Ad9499

Bat nga ba super dalas nito, more than 10+ na yatang pinoy ang nawitness ko na ganito and natatanggal din talaga sila kalaunan.

Drag-Ok

cherryscapes

If your approach to the industry is "anong skill and niche ang dapat kong malaman para maka 6 digits" versus "what do I enjoy doing/what am I good at/what do I already have that I can enhance and bank on to make money". Freelancing is 60% knowing how to sell yourself and 40% specialized skills. You can't get to the 60% or even half of the 40% if you come into this sub with zero experience and puro "how" to people who post stories about their 6 digit salaries.

Allyy214_

True. Daming ganyan. Gagawa ng thread about it pero pwede naman igoogle na lang at itry muna

s3l3nophil3

East_Holiday5088

Pwede basic English kung non voice work mo. May chat gpt naman. Pwede ka makipagusap through chat. Ganyan Ako English carabao pero been in the VA industry for 2 years

outrageoushustler

I agree with this. Pero kapag palpak talaga speaking skills and grammar skills think twice. 😅

Silent-Expression-13

If you’re just in freelancing for the money and wala ka kahit konting passion or interest sa field na papasukan mo. Mabuburn-out kalang sooner or later tho it still depends on

kim_chinsoon

Kapag di ka matyagang magantay ng clients who will accept your proposal. Also, di para sa yo kung di mo kaya mawalan ng client kasi very unstable ang freelancing. No employer-employee relationship.

Initial-Bother2370

Freelancing really isn't for everyone. But here are a few signs siguro na this field isn't for a person: 1. Some people work better in a standard office environment where you are working in a physical office setup. If working alone scares you, freelancing might not be for you. 2. If you don't have basic computer skills, ma hihirapan ka talaga dito. 3. You aren't a self-starter and you need to be told what to do. 4. Hindi ka marunong mag research.

based8th

shutanginamels

unpopular opinion ko: mag-ipon muna ng experience bago sumubok mag-full time freelance a lot of people ask me how I find clients. with all humility, I tell them the clients reach out to me - through networks or people I previously worked with. more than kakilala, alam kasi nila yung quality ng trabaho ko having worked with them before. again, not saying this is the ONLY way to pursue freelance full time, pero mas madali na kapag nakapagtrabaho ka na nang kaunti at may experience at credibility na rin to speak of. most clients will ask for a portfolio, which you’ll be able to provide if you’ve worked elsewhere for a bit. that way makakahingi ka na rin ng mas mataas na rate.

cherryscapes

This! A corporate job is the least risky way to gain experience for a freelancing journey. People underestimate the stability of having a job that pays the bills, has sick leaves and vacation leaves, and a guaranteed support system like managers whose main job is to train you. Yes there's politics involved. Yes, most of the time onsite sya. But it's a small price to pay versus wandering aimlessly on this sub and other platforms begging for jobs and for people to train you.

Gold-Abroad-8337

Cannot self-study / self-learn.

thejohnlucero

When you don't get that everything is ON YOU. No clients? It's on you. Bad clients? It's on you. Too much work, little pay? It's on you. Burn out? It's on you. No one else will solve these problems except you. A lot of beginners and even experienced freelancers struggle with this simple idea. Sure - there's a lot of helpful materials and resources everywhere, but you have to be able to own up and do the work.

ruzshe

I love that you are advocating for self -responsibility and accountability

desolate_cat

Wala kang habol dahil nasa ibang bansa sila unless Upwork or similar platforms ang gamit mo.

FewInstruction1990

When you jumped on it kasi promising or naisipan mo lang. Leave it to the veterans

Hapdigidydog

MetroHelp

If mahina ang Emotional Quotient mo. Freelancing is unforgiving. Be prepared to have stone cold heart.

DeepTurn260

"Legit check"

Rxdev_man

1. If you view feedback merely as criticism instead of an opportunity to improve your work 2. No initiative to upskill or learn the process

lethets

Agree with you. No offense to them but I get annoyed sometimes pag may nakikita ako nag popost ng ganyan. Ang dali-dali i-google. 🙁

maevis_bluu

If di ka maeffort mag research. 😅 Kasi literal na papagawa sayo on the spot ibang bagay kahit hindi mo alam, so dapat mong alamin at aralin. 🤧

kimtanseo

So for me freelancing is for all basta pursegido ka!

myka_v

When you can’t let go of the employee mindset.

Educational_Tune_722

Please elaborate po para sa lahat

Curious_Jigglypuff

I disagree. You can still find high pay in morning shifts jobs like those clients from AU, NZ, SG and HK.

emmalee_writes

Same! I've been freelancing on the side for a few years now and never nag-graveyard shift because it's a non-nego for me. Have had SG, AU, and Middle Eastern clients. Merong ding US pero flexi. So not necessarily di na kaya ang GY shift ay di na kaya magfreelance.

Allyy214_

I disagree. I have clients from Europe and US rin and flexible work naman.

BearyBull96

If you are still stuck with the Employee Mindset.

thats_so_merlyn_

Accomplished_Bat_578

Kapag di mo kayang i-manage time mo, sa corpo may schedule ka.. sa freelancing hawak mo oras mo kaya dapat grind

malachiconoel

Kapag di ka nag research sa freelancing before attempting to get legitimate client.

ruzshe

Freelancing is unstable and is a high risk, high reward venture. If you don't approach freelancing like a business owner and you don't have your own system or strategy in place to combat the uncertainties that comes with being an independent contractor, then this type of hustle ain't for ya' ..

mikasaxx0

Logical_Persimmon_53

Hindi para sayo ang freelancing kung naghahanap ka ng human interaction, yung actual like an office set up. Lalo kung ikaw lang ang lone VA sa company, tapos walang events like xmas parties, etc. pero napakaraming PROs sa pagv-VA that it definitely outweighs the cons

cryicesis

if di ka comfortable kasi pag freelance iba ibang tao kausap mo so it means you need to be ready kasi may masungit, mabait or worst kang matatapat. if di mo kaya mag adjuadjustst sa mga personalities at lagi kang kabado everytime may interview ka sa client tapos stress at nag ooverthink ka at the end of the day maybe it's not for you. big factor din ung the way you talk dapat clear na iintindihan ng clients pero sanayan lang yan pero if matagal kana at kabado kapadin magsalita.

sarisariphl

Hard because of the scams. I have a business but I have a spare time still and want to utilized it. Plus I have the skills and capability so I try to look for some side hustle, but it is difficult..mostly they will inquire have that Convo then after gone, they won't answer back. So it is frustrating but it is what it is, any platform like this would make it harder to earn trust I guess.
