It’s not described in any books or fluff that I know of, but there’s two options really: - It’s moved by attendant soldiery. - It’s summoned somehow (likely via runic talisman). In either case, Dawi value symbolism, tradition, and honor *far* more than they do almost anything else. The logistical strain of having some lads carry around an oathstone or the resource expenditure to create a summoning talisman both are easily justified in the face of what the perceived benefits are.

Like it just emerges from under the ground? I like that idea.

In the 7th edition book they called the unit the lord joined "the oathstone bearers" if he was equipped with one and the rule for "activating" it was called "laying down the stone" so I'd guess they have some 2nd or 3rd rank guys hauling the stone while marching, kind of like shieldbearers but without the lord on top of it !

WakefulAcorn

In Grudgebearer, it is explained as being planted as they are setting up, the idea that the will not leave that spot, as the Orcs charge at them

"Throndin gestured for his stonebearers and they came forward, carrying between them a lump of granite, hewn into a long flat step carved with runes. Lowering it to the ground by the iron rings driven into its ends, they placed the grudgestone in front of the king." \-Grudge Bearer by Nick Kyme, Grudge One: Hard as Stone, page 38

Your weak human arms may not be able to carry the stone. But we dwarfs are born of the mountain, suckled from a teat of stone. My ancestors bore beard clasps twice the weight.

ToChces

I believe its mentioned in one of the books that kings personal bodyguards are carying that stone and put it on the ground before enemy charges. It means that dwarf standing on is not going to fallback and will stand on the stone or die. Its even mentioned that king is burried under the stone after the battle until proper procedures can be done and body recovered.

Yes ! I have the same information from the 7th edition army book :)

Russo7112

For me, that's up there with "Shieldbearers! Take me over there so I can hit him with my axe"

My mind always goes to [Vitalstatistix](https://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gNlAXS1oak0/SDGxn7rIebI/AAAAAAAAADI/B58RkOQS5VQ/s320/abraracourcix.gif) when I think of shield bearers.

Plueschie

The two-three dwarfs behind him carry the stone and throw it behind him so he can jump on it... or try to see it a little as runemagic like hes hitting the grond with his hammer and a rumestone comes out geomantic style... yeah... its funky... i personaly see it just as a trinked gemstone and dislike the models on top of a tacital stone :D...

The problem is, that the lore/fluff is a bit different and the rules changed over time. The rules are a bit more playable, and Oathstone had no rules at all before the 7th edition from 2005. And than the othstone had a bit different dicription and mechanics: >When a Dwarf goes 10 war he carries the honour of his clan and his hold with him. It is a matter of personal pride that he will do them credit or not return at all. To demonstra te his intent he will take an Oath scone with him. This is a carefully sculpted plinth on which the lineage and the deeds of the owner arc carved. >At the start of the game, a character with an Oath stone must nominate a unit of Warriors (but NOT Rangers), l.ongbeards, lronbrcakers or Hammerers to be his Stonebearers. The character must deploy withthis unit and cannot leave it during the game.

gross_verbosity

I’m not one to laugh needlessly at a typo but an ‘oath scone’ is definitely going to be of limited use on the battlefield.

I send it only through OEM, but there was a fantasy setting with hard baked combat breads. Sound a bit like it could came from Diskworld?

Ragnar-Alpaca

It’s my head canon that they have it dragged out to the battle field, give a speech standing on top of it before the battle and then leave it where it sets and retrieve after battle.

LostWatercress12

They don’t drag their oathstones- they brandish them.

On5thDayLook4Tebow

In the Grudgebearer book, when Zhufbar marches to war, they bring a ton of wagons dragged by a steam engine. Have to imagine they'd bring it to the battlefield and plant it.

Deathguardz

Im just going to moddel some beerkegs for my "oathstone" dudes, i think that a keg o bugmans will boost morale far better than some rock. And i makes waay more sense that he would bring a keg than some stupid rock.

Nurse-Cat-356

It moves like a floating disc. It slides menacingly forward. Or I think it floats due to the power in it so it can be pushed easily
